From the Kyoto-style entrance to the lobby, the calm atmosphere and smiling staff make you feel warmly welcomed. I stayed on the 5th floor of this five-story Hotel. There is a large public bath, and the artificial carbonated water bath feels gentle and soothing for tiredness. For breakfast, you can choose one main dish from four options, with the rest served buffet-style. Every menu item was delicious, and the overall food quality was impressively high. I also received a souvenir voucher, which was a lovely gift. This Hotel is conveniently located near Hankyu Karasuma Station and Shijo Subway Station. Kyoto touches are thoughtfully incorporated throughout the Hotel. I think it’s a perfect base for sightseeing in Kyoto.
The welcome lobby, guest room, thermal spring spa, and the garden bar at night were all amazing!Breakfast in particular was top-notch—we really enjoyed it!

Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Shinmachi Bettei is located on the site of the former "Kyoto Office and Textile Reference Museum of Matsuzakaya." The property faces Shinmachi Street, a charming area where floats line up during the Gion Festival. The exterior design incorporates a setback for floors above the third level to harmonize with the streetscape, while preserving and utilizing a traditional storehouse facing Shinmachi Street. Additionally, elements such as paving stones and beams from the old building are repurposed in the interior design.

The relocated and restored large beams and main pillars convey the memory of the former Matsuzakaya Kyoto Procurement Store to the present.

3rd Floor Rooftop Garden
Views of "stones" featuring Kamo Seven Stones and foundation stones from the former Matsuzakaya, adding charm to areas such as the entrance garden, courtyard, and rooftop garden.

A restaurant space with modern touches to traditional plaster walls. The detached area features a serene atmosphere, preserving and utilizing an existing storehouse made of "earth."

1) “Nanatani Duck Oyako-don and Sea Bream Salt Ramen”
A hearty set featuring an oyako-don made with satisfyingly firm duck, paired with sea bream salt ramen accented with a hint of yuzu.
2) “Bettei Grilled Fish Bento”
Choose your grilled fish from yellowtail yuzu-teriyaki, horse mackerel mirin-yaki, or Saikyo miso-marinated salmon (+200 yen). This bento also includes seasonal small dishes, kelp-cured red sea bream, and dashi for tai chazuke.
Top it with your favorite small dish and enjoy our house-made chazuke.
