Shima Tamura: A Hot Spring Paradise Inn
Gunma Prefecture/Forty thousandA historic Ryokan established in 1563, where you can enjoy natural Onsen with water flowing directly from the source in Shima.
Amidst the rich nature, the sturdy thatched roof warmly welcomes you. Since the distant Muromachi period, the Onsen for therapeutic purposes has flourished and been cherished for five hundred years, and even today, the onsen village of Shima Tamura continues to be loved. The moment you see the wooden signboard "Onsen Property" hanging at the entrance, a relaxing atmosphere envelops you. Take a moment to immerse yourself in this tranquility and enjoy a leisurely time.
Checked in at 3:00 PM while a typhoon was passing through. Took a short walk around the Accommodation, then enjoyed an Onsen tour. Stayed relaxed inside the Accommodation until around 10:30 AM the next morning. Because we had plenty of time, we were able to soak in almost all of the Onsen baths. It seemed each bath was drained and cleaned in turn, and the spotless Onsen left a strong impression. The drinkable spring water tasted salty and was unexpectedly delicious. Both dinner and breakfast were thoughtfully prepared and very tasty. We chose the cheapest Plan, so we accepted that the view wasn’t great. An Accommodation I’d love to stay at again.
jazzy55 6/9/2026It truly lived up to its name—an entire day immersed in Onsen. Each bath had its own charm, and we enjoyed them all.The meals were also thoughtfully prepared and comforting; we were very satisfied with both dinner and breakfast.
