    An impeccable Accommodation

    The Room, the view from the Room, the meals, and the hospitality were all excellent—an Accommodation with nothing to fault. The dinner in particular was among the top three best I’ve had at any Accommodation, and I definitely want to stay again when I visit Toyama. The only drawback was that, despite it being summer, the duvet was too thick. Even with the air conditioning on it felt hot, so I ended up kicking off the bedding and then waking up cold. A lighter summer duvet would be appreciated.

    Hot pot meals are not prepared using solid fuel.

    I heard that this Accommodation is a renovated former culinary Ryokan, now run by a husband and wife as an auberge. After the renovation, the Accommodation felt new and was kept very clean, and I could really sense the care put into it. The food was carefully prepared, beautifully presented on lovely tableware, and we enjoyed fresh seafood. One issue: perhaps due to the season and airflow from the air conditioner, it took a very long time to heat hot-pot dishes using solid fuel. At dinner, with the shabu-shabu it felt like we ate one slice and then waited several minutes for the next; at breakfast, we waited quite a while for the yudofu, but the tofu was still cold and the shimeji served alongside was almost raw. You might say we should have asked staff for help, but since it’s just two of you and you seemed busy, it was hard to speak up.

    Thank you for a truly luxurious stay.

    In the wonderful space created by the owners, we were able to spend a truly relaxing and restorative time. Enjoying their thoughtfully prepared dishes—down to the seasonings—paired with local sake and served in locally made tableware was a real luxury... The journey there, transferring between local trains and buses, also became a memorable part of our trip. We would love to visit again someday in a different season. Thank you very much for such a lovely time.

    A Luxurious Auberge with Only 3 Rooms

    During my temporary return to Japan, I stayed here because I wanted to enjoy delicious Japanese cuisine. This luxurious auberge has only three Rooms, and the sea is visible right outside the window—it truly felt like a front-row seat. There was no clock or TV in the Room, which was wonderful because we could relax and enjoy conversation while gazing at the ocean. The dishes featured local seafood and freshly harvested vegetables, beautifully plated on tableware such as Fukui glass, delighting both the palate and the eyes. Amaharashi Coast is nearby, so we were able to enjoy the beautiful sea before check-in. When I move back to Japan permanently, I would love to visit again.

    I had been looking forward to staying here on my first trip to Toyama. I was able to relax in a Room where I could clearly hear the sound of the waves, and I had a wonderful time. Every meal was delicious, and I enjoyed the local Toyama ingredients and tableware. Thank you very much.

    The meals are exceptionally delicious.

    My girlfriend and I stayed for one night from June 14. It was a wonderful stay, and the food in particular was truly impressive. I’ve enjoyed meals at many Accommodations, but this was without a doubt among the very best. The tableware, made in Toyama, was also beautiful. This was my first trip to Toyama, and we had such a lovely time that I’d like to visit again just for this Hotel and its cuisine. Thank you very much to all the staff for your hospitality. We would love to return again, and we look forward to seeing you then.

    Cuisine, Views, and a Special Time

    In addition to the excellent cuisine and beautiful views, everything from arrival to departure made for a wonderful stay. This Accommodation has been passed down for over 100 years and was recently rebuilt. The interior, tableware, and other amenities were all lovely, and we could truly feel the thoughtful care put into creating a special experience.

    A truly soothing Accommodation, where the hosts’ warm smiles and heartfelt hospitality will relax you from the heart.

    This was the first trip for the three of us moms now that our kids are a bit older, and we wanted to enjoy great food and relax—so we chose Hashimotoya, which we’d been curious about for a while. Just as the Reviews said, everything was outstanding. We truly felt their warm hospitality, and the owner and his wife’s thoughtfulness and smiles soothed all our everyday fatigue. It was an Accommodation that made us think, “Let’s do our best again from tomorrow—and we’ll definitely come back.” Above all, the food was exceptional—from the Japanese sweets at check-in (homemade warabi mochi), to dinner and breakfast, and even dessert after breakfast (chocolate brownie). We were able to fully enjoy dishes carefully prepared by the owner with great attention to ingredients. Fresh Toyama fish and vegetables were used generously, and every dish was delicately seasoned to highlight the natural flavors. With each course we were moved, all three of us saying together, “So happy… this is amazing.” The sashimi platter also offered small portions of many kinds of fresh seafood, letting us savor Toyama’s fish to the fullest. With such delicious food, drinks went down easily too—and we ended with glossy perfect rice, Himi beef suki-ni style simmered dish, and Job’s tears ice cream. We were completely satisfied. During our stay there was tea in the Room but no coffee, so I found myself wishing for a cup at the end—then after breakfast they served coffee along with bite-sized sweets that paired perfectly plus fruit. Everything felt complete. Not only the cuisine but even the tableware featured items from Toyama; and our guest Room had high ceilings and was clean and simple. The interior made full use of breathtaking views from large windows—the sea and Abugashima Island—and on clear days you can likely see the Tateyama mountain range as well. Opening the window brought in a pleasant breeze and soothing wave sounds that truly relaxed us. The bath is not an Onsen, but we could soak slowly in a bubble bath while looking out at the ocean—something you can’t do at home. It was even more relaxing than an Onsen Facility we visited before check-in. Access is a little inconvenient—but even so, this Accommodation offers food worth returning for, a wonderful space to unwind in, and above all an incredible spirit of hospitality from this lovely couple. Thank you for such a wonderful time. Since we couldn’t see much of Tateyama due to less-than-great weather this time, we’d love to return during winter for yellowtail (buri) and crab season next time.

    Seasonal ingredients are delicious.

    The meals made with local seasonal ingredients were absolutely delicious. What—tuna can be caught in Himi? And pufferfish too? Everything was fresh and wonderful. In particular, the firefly squid shabu-shabu I tried for the first time was so good it made me wonder what I had been eating before. I never got tired of gazing at the Tateyama Mountain Range through the window (it was a little hazy). 　Maybe I just didn’t notice, or perhaps something else could have been done, but possibly due to the blackout curtains, it was very bright and hot in the morning. Personally, I would prefer curtains that block out more light. 　I would definitely like to visit again in a different season.

    The views and food are excellent, and above all, the atmosphere is wonderful.

    A couples’ trip to Toyama. Get closer to the Tateyama Mountain Range, or admire it from afar? We debated and finally decided on viewing it from a distance. When we searched with that in mind—along with great food—we found this Accommodation. When we arrived, we were first soothed by the warm, attentive welcome from the young couple owners (the fourth generation). The newly renovated Accommodation still feels fresh, and there were tasteful fresh flowers arranged throughout. The Tateyama Mountain Range, which hadn’t shown itself that morning, became visible in the afternoon, and before dinner it was the ultimate luxury to soak in the bath while gazing at those mountains—Toyama’s pride—still capped with lingering snow. Dinner featured a wide variety of dishes centered on seasonal local ingredients. Everything was well seasoned and delicious. The tableware was also beautiful, and we could truly feel the owner’s extraordinary passion for cooking. They host only three parties per night, and there’s no TV—so it’s quiet. And that is exactly what made it so wonderful. (To be honest, we were also happily immersed in fine sake.) We heard that rebuilding took place around the time of the Noto earthquake, so our Room was still very new and spotless, and we were able to relax comfortably at our own pace. Breakfast was just as impressive, incorporating local specialties as well. We’re an older couple and finished everything—and I was especially surprised that my wife, who usually eats slowly, finished before I did. That says it all about how good it was. After fully enjoying Toyama’s unique scenery and cuisine—and feeling grateful and moved to have found such a wonderful Accommodation—we headed home as the owner saw us off. From the bottom of our hearts, we hope this lovely couple will continue running this special Accommodation for many years to come.

    A truly wonderful accommodation

    Thank you very much for taking care of us again on our second stay. When we visited 6 and a half years ago, this Accommodation left us with such wonderful memories that we had been hoping to return someday. This time as well, we were fortunate to see the sunrise over the Tateyama Mountain Range. I loved the atmosphere of the previous inn, but after the renovation it has become a modern Accommodation—yet the warm hospitality from the young and very kind couple remains unchanged. With carefully prepared dishes featuring fresh seafood from Himi and breathtaking views of the Tateyama Mountain Range, everything is here. It is an Accommodation you will want to stay at again and again, even from far away. We will definitely visit again when we want to forget everyday life and relax. Thank you very much.

    The Finest Hospitality

    We chose this Accommodation because my husband wanted to see Mt. Tsurugi, which he climbed when he was younger, across Toyama Bay. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with handmade Japanese sweets and tea, and it felt like all our fatigue melted away. The Room was comfortable, and the bedding was so pleasant that we slept soundly. (During the day, we noticed some motorcycle noise from the road, but it became quiet after dark.) The bath was also soothing with a microbubble bath. The meals featured delicious ingredients from Toyama and Himi, prepared wonderfully—we truly enjoyed them. It happened to be a full moon, so we had dinner while watching the moon and the band of light reflected on the sea. We originally chose this place for the view, but we found an Accommodation that offered not only stunning scenery but also excellent food—clean and relaxing as well. We were warmly hosted by a young couple with wonderful smiles, making it a great trip.

    A wonderful auberge with panoramic views of the Tateyama Mountain Range

    We were blessed with great weather for two days and enjoyed a wonderful vacation, welcomed by the Tateyama Mountain Range all day long. The owners’ hospitality and the meals were excellent, and the Room was comfortable. Relaxing with coffee while gazing at the Tateyama Mountain Range beyond the sea was the best. We would love to visit again. Thank you very much for everything!

    Himi’s Signature Seafood

    I’ve stayed at most of the nationally renowned luxury Ryokan, and since this property is priced on par with them, I’m reviewing it as a luxury Ryokan. This is a culinary Ryokan dating back to the Meiji era, now run by the fourth-generation owner. It was renovated in 2024 and downsized from six Rooms to three. As the building is new, it is extremely clean and beautiful. The Room is 33 m², which feels small for a luxury Ryokan, but there are thoughtful touches throughout—for example, the toilet is positioned so it doesn’t feel intrusive from within the guest room. It’s quite disappointing that the bath is not an Onsen, but you can use modern features such as microbubbles. Although it’s positioned as an auberge, all meals are fully Japanese cuisine. You can truly enjoy Himi’s local seafood. It was also firefly squid season; firefly squid shabu-shabu was the main dish, and everything—from sashimi to grilled fish—was worthy of a luxury Ryokan. It pairs wonderfully with local sake. Breakfast is also Japanese-style. I would have liked it even more if the rice had been cooked in a traditional hagama pot, but overall it was very satisfying. The biggest highlight of this Ryokan—the spectacular view of the Tateyama Mountain Range—depends on the weather, but on a clear day it’s genuinely stunning and overwhelming. We were told this day was exceptionally clear, and I believe this scenery and the cuisine alone make it well worth visiting. Ideally, having an Onsen in a separate annex would make it perfect—but I’d love to return in another season.

    A Space and Cuisine That Capture the Essence of Himi’s Nature

    A vast sea stretching out before you, the solitary “Abuga Island,” the Tateyama Mountain Range—and sky, sky, sky. Cuisine that is truly delicious and gently comforting. An array of exquisite dishes served on both inherited vessels passed down through generations and striking modern tableware—freshly opened-season white shrimp and firefly squid at their best this time of year. And wonderful sake—especially local selections from Himi and Takaoka with spot-on commentary. With cups and tokkuri chosen to match each label, the sake’s flavors were brought out beautifully, making the food even more enjoyable. A special experience found only here—graceful time—and while keeping the three elements of “cuisine, scenery, and hospitality” just as they are: please continue to take good care of your health—the young fourth-generation owner and the two ladies who work together in perfect harmony—and keep sharing Himi’s flavors in such a lovely setting. I’m already looking forward to visiting again from Tokyo in winter. Thank you very much.

    It was the best family trip.

    Every dish was delicious, with a gentle and carefully prepared flavor, and sharing a wonderful meal while chatting as a family was the best. It was also lovely that the tableware was made by local artists. The location, where you can hear only the sound of the waves, and the ocean filling the Room window were breathtaking. We could faintly see the Tateyama Mountain Range in the distance, and it was a truly special time to watch the sunrise slowly from our Room. Since shops are far away, we appreciated the thoughtful service of complimentary tea and water in the refrigerator, as well as drinks available for purchase in the lobby. The heartfelt hospitality was very comforting, and we would love to return again!

    It was a great Accommodation.

    Although small, the well-thought-out design made the Room compact and well organized, so there was no inconvenience. If I had to be particular, it would have been best if the bottom edge of the window were 10 cm lower and the width 10 cm wider. The bath was not an Onsen but a high-end unit bath, which was a bit disappointing. Amenities were more than sufficient, and having separate loungewear and pajamas was nice—the loungewear was comfortable. The men’s in-house slippers are too small, so the size should be reconsidered. Meals (both breakfast and dinner) reflected Himi’s local character well, and I was very satisfied with both the quantity and taste. The couple provided courteous service, which left a good impression.\nI’m considering visiting again in autumn.

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

    This was my first stay, and the Accommodation exceeded my expectations. Every dish was delicious, and you could really tell how carefully everything was prepared. The view from the Room was wonderful—the sparkling beauty of Toyama Bay, the majestic Tateyama Mountain Range, and the awe-inspiring sunrise truly moved me. The Room was clean and tastefully designed, and I was able to relax and unwind. This is an Accommodation I would definitely like to visit again.

    An Accommodation with Outstanding Dining and Stunning Views of the Tateyama Mountain Range

    We had our meals at Oyama, and the plan included two servings of premium branded crab, which we enjoyed in a variety of flavors. The food alone was satisfying, and this Accommodation is perfect for taking in views of the Tateyama Mountain Range. Unfortunately, it was cloudy this time and we couldn’t see Tateyama, but we hope to next time. The warm hospitality from the young owner couple was refreshing.

    Just as expected, and a cozy Accommodation

    This was my third trip to Himi, but until now I had stayed in Toyama or Takaoka and visited just for the day. This time, I wanted to take my time and fully enjoy Himi’s delicious fish, so I finally stayed at Hashimotoya—an Accommodation I’d long hoped to visit. It was exactly as expected. Though small, every detail showed great taste, and framed messages from guests from its days as an old Ryokan were displayed on the walls, giving a real sense of history. The food was outstanding. Even though I’d heard yellowtail was scarce this year, it was served both as sashimi and shabu-shabu, and I was truly satisfied. More than anything, the warm atmosphere created by the two hosts seemed to gently fill the entire Accommodation—and that comfort felt like its greatest value. On the train home, I came across what seemed to be a blog from a Ryokan in Minami-Awaji that they had visited before, and it gave me a sense of what they may be aiming for. It made me want to return and ask them about it. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    Free from distractions, we were able to savor the wonderful cuisine and the breathtaking view right in front of us. Since it is far from central Takaoka, we hesitated at first, but after staying there, we felt it was worth traveling just to spend this special time.

    I chose this Accommo...

    I chose this Accommodation hoping for delicious fish dishes, and it met my expectations. The Accommodation is small and the Room isn’t large, but it’s a comfortable space. If the weather is clear, the view is outstanding. It was hazy on the day I stayed, but the next morning I was able to see a beautiful sunrise. The meal course focused confidently on fish, and I enjoyed a variety of seafood. Of course there were classics like sashimi and grilled fish, but dishes paired with butterbur sprouts and Japanese parsley were also excellent—I even found myself wondering what a vegetable-only dish would be like (since I love vegetables). If I could make one request, I would have been even happier if there had been more carefully selected coffee or tea in the Room (or in the lobby). It would make it easier to relax in the Room. If you’re staying on a day when you can clearly see Mt. Tateyama, I recommend checking in early—you’ll likely enjoy watching how the scenery changes until sunset.

    I visited alone to see the Tateyama Mountain Range across Toyama Bay. Unfortunately, I could only make out the mountains as silhouettes, but it was a wonderful location where I could enjoy a rainbow over the sea right in front of me and a starry sky at night. The meals were served dish by dish, with hot items brought while still hot, and I could tell they paid close attention not only to the food but also to the tableware. The Room setup showed care in every detail! Even without a TV, I was able to spend a truly lovely day. I’d like to come back again just to relax and do nothing. Thank you very much.

    The stunning collaboration of Abugashima and Mt. Tsurugi is simply the best!

    About a 20-minute drive from Himi. It may seem like there’s nothing around, but once you look out at the sea, the view of Abugashima Island and the surrounding mountains is stunning! What’s more, you can see Mt. Tsurugi right in the middle of Abugashima Island, and I was able to relax and lose track of time while listening to the waves and watching the ever-changing sea and mountain scenery. At dinner, they kindly accommodated my sudden request for an alcohol pairing, and both the drinks and the food were absolutely delicious. The sake cups and tableware were also beautiful—something to enjoy with your eyes as well. When I asked about it, they even shared stories such as how a previous generation had a connection with Shiko Munakata, which was wonderful to hear. Thank you very much.
