    Your First Stay in Karuizawa

    I drove to Karuizawa with my daughter, who lives in Saitama, and my two grandchildren to attend a concert by my favorite artist at Oga Hall. My daughter has stayed here several times before, so I felt completely at ease letting her handle the drive. Although we arrived at the Hotel before 2:00 p.m., the staff were already ready for us. After leaving our luggage, we headed out to explore Old Karuizawa’s shopping street. After our walk around Old Karuizawa, we returned to the Hotel and were shown to our Room. Room 101 was 86 m²—spacious enough to relax comfortably. The furnishings featured many leather pieces, all carefully selected, which made the space feel truly luxurious. The layout was also thoughtfully designed, and I was impressed by the designer’s excellent sense of style. I prefer spacious Hotels when I stay overnight. This Room felt comparable in size to places I’ve stayed before—such as Beppu Gahama Terrace and Karatsu Seaside Hotel (both around 90 m²). However, what was provided here was completely different—each item felt distinctive and chosen with real care. My daughter drove me to the concert venue for the 4:30 p.m. start, and I went into Oga Hall. Meanwhile, my daughter and two grandchildren returned to the Hotel and seemed to really enjoy the large public bath. After the concert ended, still savoring the afterglow, I walked back toward the Hotel as part of a leisurely stroll. By the time I arrived about 20 minutes later, my daughter and grandchildren had come back from their bath and told me all about it. For dinner we ate at Sawamura Bakery & Restaurant. Since I don’t drink alcohol, I drove my daughter’s new car—purchased at the end of March—for the first time on our way back to the Hotel. Next we all went together to enjoy the large public bath. There were far-infrared and mist saunas, plus chairs set up outside for cooling down in fresh air. After bathing, you can enjoy drinks and snacks in the lounge. We hadn’t made an all-inclusive Reservation, but being able to help ourselves freely was something we truly appreciated. After my grandchildren fell asleep, there was a glass sliding door that could divide off part of Room; they lit a fire in the fireplace for us as well. Watching its gentle flicker while talking quietly with my daughter made for such a wonderful time. The bed had just-right firmness and was very comfortable—perhaps even above Simmons level. Breakfast was delicious across every dish. The ingredients were carefully selected and fresh; once again you could feel their attention to detail throughout. I genuinely feel we found an excellent Hotel here. Next time, this is a Hotel I’d love for our whole family to visit together again.

    Outstanding value for money!

    Five friends and I stayed in one Room. We made the Reservation without much prior information, but it turned out to be a far more wonderful Hotel than we expected. We chose the plan with breakfast and dinner, and dinner was not a buffet but a set course meal. With calm interior décor and jazz playing, it truly felt like the Hotel stay we had always dreamed of. The food was not only delicious but also very filling. One of my friends doesn’t eat meat, and they accommodated this with great care—we were truly grateful. For breakfast, you choose a main dish, while salads, soup, desserts, and drinks are served buffet-style. There wasn’t much getting up and down, so we could enjoy our meal in a relaxed atmosphere. We were also surprised that the lounge offered free drinks, nuts, ice cream—and even alcohol—until 10 p.m. Of course, the staff’s hospitality was excellent, and we had a very comfortable stay. If I had just one request: perhaps because of the color, the loungewear looked a bit like prison uniforms, which was disappointing—though it is still much better than yukata. This is a Hotel I can confidently recommend to others.

    This Hotel is highly recommended.

    The Room was spacious, stylish, and furnished with high-quality interiors, making it very relaxing. I was also able to borrow a yoga mat and beauty devices to help relieve my fatigue. I was happy that guests can use the lounge, and the large public bath was great as well. Breakfast was thoughtfully prepared and very delicious. I was impressed by the warm hospitality of all the staff. I would definitely like to stay again.

    It was absolutely wonderful.

    The location was great, with plenty of places nearby to enjoy street food. In the lobby, ice cream was all-you-can-eat and drinks were unlimited. I was able to relax and take my time. It was an excellent Hotel, and I would love to stay again.

    It made me want to stay one more night.

    With our kids now more independent, we wanted to enjoy some relaxed adult time with a couple we’re friends with, so we were looking for a Hotel. When searching on IKYU, I also refer to Reviews, and I actually start by reading the low-rated ones. It seemed this Hotel had received various low ratings last year, but with time passing, we expected things would have improved—so we decided to book a spacious Room. As it turned out, the Room was more than spacious enough, and everything—from the bed and furniture to the glasses and amenities—was well stocked. One thing that stood out was that the refrigerator was small and didn’t get cold. There was also no small freezer compartment for freezing ice packs. This time we managed with a cooler box we brought along, but it may be tough in summer. Guests staying in warmer seasons may need to plan accordingly. Other than that, the staff were very pleasant. The large public bath was regularly cleaned by staff so it felt comfortable to use, and the lounge was kept clean as well—we enjoyed the drinks and snacks. Breakfast was plentiful, and especially impressive was the soup selection. It’s so good you’ll want seconds, but since there are main dishes too, I held back a bit. If you still have room left, be sure to try more. The donuts were also adorable—I couldn’t help taking photos! They’re quite sweet, so children would probably love them. The ice cream and sherbet were delicious as well. At checkout they kindly helped us with a shopping bag too, and thanks to that we had a wonderful stay without any unpleasant moments until the very end. We had none of the concerns mentioned in low-rated Reviews. We’d love to visit again in autumn.

    Each dish is careful...

    Each dish is carefully prepared and very delicious, but service feels a bit too slow. I brought my 91-year-old mother, and the bed and sink were too high for her, so she struggled. The Room was spacious, clean, and comfortable.

    This Hotel offers a high level of guest satisfaction.

    The Room was spacious and very well cleaned. The interior was relaxing. I wasn’t feeling well and couldn’t eat dinner, so I really appreciated your consideration in allowing me to take part of it back to the Room. When I asked about a special bathing garment that can be worn after surgery, I didn’t receive an immediate reply. Many Accommodations in Nagano Prefecture support the Pink Ribbon campaign, so it would be reassuring if you could add a brief note on your website so guests can bathe with peace of mind. If I have the opportunity, I would like to visit again.

    We had a very comfortable stay.

    This was our first stay in Karuizawa in a while, so we had trouble choosing a Hotel, but we are very glad we stayed here. The location is excellent, the staff were very welcoming from the moment we arrived, and we were very satisfied with the Room. The meals exceeded our expectations. We would definitely like to stay again.

    Overall, I am satisfied.

    The Room is spacious and comfortable. The fresh greenery filling the entire window felt like a painting. Dinner (Italian) was very delicious. In particular, the early-summer limited cocktail was outstanding in both appearance and taste. The Onsen was a bit disappointing as there is no open-air bath. Perhaps because it is a new Hotel, the quality of staff service varies. The foreign female staff member at the restaurant was very pleasant.

    A solid 75 out of 100 in every respect.

    - Service: Extremely lacking in explanations Many of the staff were non-Japanese, and there was almost no guidance about the in-house Facility or other details. Most information was available on the iPad in the Room, but important points—such as whether towels are provided at the public bath—should have been explained at check-in. - Room: Great design, but a terrible view I made a Reservation months in advance for a Premium Suite, but ended up with a parking-lot view—the worst. As I was visiting for my companion’s birthday, I requested a change to a forest-view Room, but was simply told that it was fully booked and only a downgrade would be possible. Even if some staff are not fluent in Japanese, this is not an inexpensive Hotel, so better training to provide more courteous and detailed explanations would be advisable. - Public bath: So-so There was only one indoor bath and no open-air bath. The water quality wasn’t particularly special either, so it wasn’t memorable. - Loaner amenities: Stylish, but not charged and unusable right away There were many well-chosen items available to borrow, such as a Repronizer hair dryer and foot massager. I borrowed several, but they weren’t charged and couldn’t be used immediately. - Overall rating: 75/100 Overall it felt like attention to detail was missing across the board—so close yet still disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend it for anniversaries or special occasions. The Room design was excellent, though. It’s an evolving Hotel with room for improvement and strong potential.

    A user-friendly Room

    The Facility was new, and we had a very comfortable stay. The lounge offered a wide variety of alcoholic drinks, which we enjoyed, but it was disappointing that there was no beer. If we have the chance to visit Karuizawa again, we would love to stay here again.

    This is my second stay.

    I stayed here shortly after the Accommodation opened last time, and it was so comfortable that I chose it again for this trip. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t great, but I could see the greenery of the trees from my Room and felt relaxed. Since the tree in front was a maple, I think staying during the autumn foliage season would be wonderful as well. As with last time, I stayed with my mother, and being able to borrow a shower chair for caregiving was very helpful. I would also appreciate it if there were a Room with grab bars next to the bathtub. Last time I tended to focus on how new everything felt inside the building, but this time what stood out was how pleasant the staff were. I’d love to visit again if I have another opportunity.

    Wonderful Hotel

    The Facility was new...

    The Facility was new, the location was great, and it was a lovely Accommodation. We stayed with a small child, and there were bed guards and other amenities, so we had no inconvenience. Breakfast didn’t have a huge variety, but many items were carefully prepared and we enjoyed it. The lounge service was also nice with ice cream and more, but there weren’t many Karuizawa-style options such as alcoholic drinks or snacks. Overall, we were satisfied with our stay.

    Fresh Greenery in Karuizawa

    I booked a suite to enjoy a break from everyday life—a reward for myself after working hard at home. The first friend to step in was thrilled by the size of the TV. Then my other friend and I walked in and were amazed by how spacious the Room was—we even hugged. We stepped out onto the balcony, breathed in the fresh air, admired the fresh green maple leaves, and relaxed on the sofa and rocking chair. There were plenty of staff, all kind and attentive, and everything felt spotless; the amenities were excellent as well. We took our time enjoying dinner (the creative dishes were wonderful and delicious), and had a leisurely breakfast too (great selection of soups and sweets, and the detox water was especially tasty). It was truly a luxurious stay. Thank you very much.

    The Room was spaciou...

    The Room was spacious, and we were able to relax comfortably. The meals were also very delicious. As others have mentioned, the light switches were hard to find. It would be nice if the lighting for the restroom and entrance could be adjusted at night. We would like to visit again.

    I was satisfied.

    I returned home on the 15th. I visit Old Karuizawa about once every five years, and I had been watching the construction, wondering if a new Hotel was being built. This time we stayed there, and my wife and I were very satisfied. As I am about to turn 80, one small disappointment was that the lighting felt a bit dim. Other than that, everything was comfortable, and we enjoyed an elegant one-night stay. Thank you very much.

    A Comfortable Hotel with Great Value for Money

    As the Facility is new, it was exceptionally clean and comfortable. The meals were also very delicious. Until now, when visiting Karuizawa, I stayed at the Mampei Hotel, but from now on I would like to stay at this Hotel again.

    We stayed here for the first time during Golden Week. The Room was spacious and spotless—nothing to complain about. Our middle-school daughter loved it at first sight! My husband also really liked the monaka ice cream in the lounge, saying, “It’s delicious, and this size is perfect!” You can rent up to five different amenities per Room, so we borrowed some massage items and board games. However, there were no instruction manuals included, so we had to look things up online. It would be greatly appreciated if manuals could be provided as well. The Onsen was clean and it was great that there were two types of saunas, but if I had to be picky, it would have been perfect with an open-air bath—so I gave 4 points. Breakfast was delicious and I ended up eating too much. Surprisingly (haha), my daughter said the donuts were amazing! They weren’t just sweet—some had strawberry sauce inside the dough—and they felt very carefully made. I was impressed. There were several kinds of soup too; I couldn’t decide, but my recommendation is the mushroom soup—it was rich and very tasty. One last thing: although a map is posted on your website, the route to the Accommodation was a bit difficult and we got lost. We ended up going down a very narrow road and it made us nervous, so we would appreciate it if you could consider adding more landmarks at turns on the map (once you’ve been there once, it’s probably easy enough). Many of the staff seemed to be from overseas, but everyone was polite and served us with smiles, which made our stay very pleasant. We’d love to come back again for a relaxing visit. Thank you for taking care of us.

    It was clean and nice.

    I chose this new Hotel for sightseeing in Karuizawa, and it turned out to be the perfect choice. It is located at the end of Old Karuizawa Ginza Street, making it a great location for strolling along the street and around Kumoba Pond. When I contacted them in advance, they told me that I could park my car (if space was available) after 12:00 even before check-in time, so I arrived shortly after noon and was able to park. The Facility is new and everything was spotless. It also has a calm design, and I had a very comfortable stay. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. Every dish at dinner was excellent, but in particular, the Shinano beef steak baked in a stone oven was the best steak I’ve had in recent memory. The sauce was great too, but it tasted best with rock salt so you can really enjoy the flavor of the meat. All staff were pleasant and welcoming; however, the explanations of the dishes were spoken quite softly and were hard to hear. I felt it would be better if they spoke a bit more clearly. (There was a menu card, so I could confirm there.) Both the Room and bath were very comfortable, with no negatives at all. Highly recommended as a base for exploring Karuizawa!

    A lovely new Hotel

    I noticed this Hotel had opened last year, and since the Reviews were good, I stayed for one night. It was conveniently located for a walk along Kyu-Karuizawa Street. The interior was lovely, and the room was spacious and relaxing. I only had breakfast, which was delicious, but it was disappointing that the orange juice tasted cheap. Many good Hotels now serve freshly squeezed juice, so I hope you will consider it.

    A Hotel You’ll Want to Visit Again

    We stayed for two nights. The exterior and the Room were very stylish, and the calm atmosphere was truly relaxing. Breakfast was delicious, and the dinner course was also excellent! The wine pairing made for a perfect evening. We were also very satisfied with the meals for our children. There was a great selection of massage items and toys available to rent in the Room, but what we especially loved was that alcohol, soft drinks, snacks, and ice cream were free in the lounge—amazing! They even had sparkling wine, which made it even better. Afterwards, our child told us they want to go back to that Hotel again. We will definitely visit again. Thank you very much for everything!

    Perfect for a relaxing stay.

    The Hotel had a calm atmosphere throughout, and the Room was very spacious, so we could truly relax. The fresh greenery visible from the balcony and the birdsong helped us unwind both physically and mentally. We stayed for two nights, and the dinner menu changed quite a bit between the first and second night, which we really enjoyed. Of course, both meals were delicious. We also enjoyed the large public bath and sauna over both days, but depending on the timing, the changing area could get crowded and all lockers were sometimes taken. Some guests even placed their clothes in front of occupied lockers. Since adding more lockers may not be possible, I think it would be helpful to provide something like changing baskets. There were two types of sauna—a dry sauna and a steam sauna—which was great. There is a faucet installed so you can rinse off the chairs in the outdoor relaxation area before and after use, but it was hard to tell that you need to turn two knobs for water to come out. Many guests seemed to use the chairs without rinsing them. A simple instruction sign would be helpful. Even though this is a Facility with Onsen, it felt refreshingly different from a typical Onsen Ryokan. This time we visited in May during the season of fresh greenery, but we would love to return in autumn for the fall colors. Thank you very much.

    Enjoy beautiful views from the balcony.

    The entire building has a stylish, modern design, and the fresh greenery visible from the windows was very refreshing. However, since it was during Golden Week, getting in and out by car was difficult. Driving into the crowded Old Karuizawa Street takes a fair amount of nerve.

    Excellent!

    This was my first time staying here. Even though I arrived much earlier than planned, thank you for kindly storing my luggage. I was impressed by how courteous the service was. The Room, bath, and meals were all flawless. I had an absolutely wonderful time.

    Comfortable stay with children

    We had a wonderful stay with our elementary school-aged children. It is directly connected to the Ginza-dori shopping street, with many small shops and restaurants, which was very convenient. The Hotel lounge offers a variety of drinks, snacks, and ice cream, which was a hit with the kids. The Room was spacious and comfortable, so even sleeping with multiple people did not feel inconvenient at all.

    We were very satisfied with both the Room and the meals.

    This was my first stay, and I was very satisfied. The Room was so spacious that I even had to look around for the light switches, and having the fireplace lit for us was a wonderful touch. I also enjoyed relaxing in the large public bath, and both the taste and portion sizes of the meals were excellent. Since it was a free-flow plan, I ended up drinking a bit too much. I was also happy to see such a wide variety of soups at breakfast. One small downside was that although we were grateful to borrow various items, there were no instructions, so we couldn’t use some of them. Other than that, everything was great, and if I have a chance to visit Karuizawa again, I would love to stay here again. Thank you very much.

    This is a Hotel I’d love to stay at again.

    The location, hospitality and service, and the food were all outstanding. We were also very intrigued by the rental items (up to five types per group) and thought it was a fun, creative idea. Our family agreed that this is one of the Accommodations we would definitely like to visit again. However, one thing: there were not enough power outlets in the guest room, especially around the bed. With smartphones and other devices being so common today, we feel this is essential.
