    The room facilities are outdated.

    Due to the summer holidays and the presence of many children, loud footsteps from upstairs and surrounding areas continue even at night, causing stress. The musty smell and damage to fixtures highlight the outdated condition of the facility. The most inconvenient issue is that there are no towels in the public bath. If you plan to bathe twice, you'll need to dry your towel in your room. Even business hotels provide towels. Expecting guests to dry their own towels is unacceptable. As for meals and service, some effort can be seen, but they are average at best. I know many other hotels in this price range that offer better experiences. Renovating the rooms should be prioritized above all else.

    I was satisfied, but...

    The staff's response and the Facility were satisfactory, but there are a few points to mention. Regarding the drink service, it was disappointing that there were no nuts available during the afternoon service as expected. Additionally, during the evening service, it was unfortunate that there were no snacks suitable for children. On the afternoon of August 4th, one of the younger lifeguards appeared to be hiding a smartphone in their bag and watching YouTube continuously. Wearing sunglasses to obscure their gaze seemed inappropriate as well. During their 10-minute break, while the experienced staff member worked alone, the younger lifeguard continued watching YouTube. This could lead to serious consequences in case of an emergency situation.

    It was my first stay at Mercure, and I was very satisfied.

    The location is excellent with a stunning view! The room and onsen are cozy and spotless. Would love to visit again :)

    It was great.

    The Facility is a bit old, but overall it was good. We chose the ocean side, and we could see Hashikui-iwa with the sunrise coming up from there.

    Basically divine.

    If I had to point out one drawback, it would be that there are only three laundry machines, and since they include a drying function, each use takes about two hours. I saw several people sadly returning to their Room because they couldn't use the laundry, and I was one of them. In the end, I washed my clothes in my bathroom, but they didn’t dry—tears. If this facility could be improved, it would truly become divine!

    Great value for money!

    I stayed at this accommodation a few years ago when it was Daiwa, and I was surprised to see that everything had been upgraded. The meals did not use luxurious ingredients, but each dish was thoughtfully prepared. Additionally, the all-you-can-drink alcohol and soft drinks were fantastic.

    Affordable and highly satisfying

    The accommodation has been renovated and looks much nicer compared to when I stayed in April two years ago. The staff were kind, and I would love to stay here again. I was also moved by the sunrise view from Hashikui-iwa.

    Thank you for your patronage.

    The lighting outside the front desk and restaurant areas felt dim and gave an impression of being unsanitary. Additionally, the carpet in the guest room had a slight odor that was noticeable. It seems to be an accommodation with many inbound guests.

    I ate too much (lol).

    I stayed at the accommodation with my daughter for a two-person trip. Although I thought I had researched the hotel information in advance, I ended up overindulging. The delicious dishes were so tempting that I ate too much and couldn't enjoy drinking as originally planned. The food was visually appealing and tasted great, making me want to try a bite of everything, which led to overeating. Since it was all-inclusive, I enjoyed drinks at the lounge and had a hearty breakfast as well. I’ll avoid stepping on the scale for a while (laughs).

    Fresh tuna sashimi is delicious. Pickled plums are a must-have!

    Dinner Details

    Last year, I stayed at the Mercure Hotel South twice and enjoyed the delicious meals, so I had high expectations this time as it is part of the same chain. However, due to rising prices, the quality has significantly declined. Additionally, the food was not warm and was cold by the time I returned to my table. The sushi rice was hard and inedible, possibly because it had been left out for too long. The Kumano beef required an additional charge, and dinner overall was disappointing. With this experience, it feels difficult to use this hotel again. Even the amenities have become noticeably cheaper compared to last year.

    I visited the Yamato...

    I visited the Yamato Royal Hotel after hearing it had been renovated. The Room didn't seem to have changed much and had a slightly musty smell. The bath area was nice with free ice cream and tea, as well as a relaxing space. There was an all-you-can-drink option for a limited time, but it was disappointing that restocking wasn't done properly. I tried the breakfast buffet, and the menu had significantly expanded. The croissants were delicious, but the Japanese-style dishes were just okay.

    It was comfortable.

    The room was spacious and comfortable. The lounge's drink and snack service was much appreciated. The bathroom was also large and clean, with plenty of seating in the relaxation area. I enjoyed the complimentary mandarin tea service as well. I would love to stay here again and am now interested in other Mercure Hotels too.

    Great value for money!

    The room had some dirt, and there was a smell of tobacco in the hallway, but it was within an acceptable range. The bed was very comfortable. The Onsen was spacious and relaxing. The buffet did not have luxurious items, but the taste was good, and the dishes were thoughtfully prepared with attention to presentation. The bread and cakes were exceptional! There was also a good selection of drinks, and with three hours available for both breakfast and dinner, we could take our time enjoying the meals. Even my husband, who usually dislikes buffets, enjoyed it! One downside is that the lounge space is small. We went during bar time but couldn’t find any seats... Adding more counter tables would be helpful.

    Both the meals and the Onsen were excellent.

    We thoroughly enjoyed the buffet both in the morning and evening! Alcohol was also included. The atmosphere of the Onsen lounge was excellent, providing a perfect spot to relax after a soak. The guest room was spacious with great views.

    Mercure is my private retreat.

    Since last year, I have been enjoying Mercure. So far, I have stayed a total of 29 nights at locations such as Biwako (Nagahama), Ise-Shima, Kyoto Miyazu (Amanohashidate), Nara Kashihara, Awaji Island, Wakayama Minabe, Hamana Lake, Tottori Daisen, Okinawa Zanpa Cape, and Kochi Tosa. This time, I stayed 4 nights in Kushimoto. For summer plans, I have already made reservations for a total of 29 nights in Toyama Tonami, Nagano Matsushiro, Yatsugatake Mountains, and Tottori Daisen. I don’t particularly feel any difference between Grand Mercure and Mercure hotels. My travel routine usually starts on Sundays or public holidays and ends on Saturdays (with a 30% discount on highway tolls). The rooms are spacious enough to bring a drying rack from Kyoto by car for doing laundry in the mornings and evenings. My favorite vacation home is Princess Cruises' ships where I've spent 500 nights over the past 20 years. In March this year, I enjoyed a 10-night Japan cruise aboard Diamond Princess and plan to take a 14-night Japan round-trip cruise in November. The hotel features dining facilities on the first floor along with a lounge area open from 3 PM to 10 PM offering various beverages. There is also an onsite large bathhouse and coin laundry available for guests' convenience. The building has thirteen floors with guest rooms lined up along both sides of the corridors. South-facing rooms offer views of Hashigui-iwa Rocks and Kii Oshima Island (home to the Turkish Navy Shipwreck Memorial & Museum) where you can wake up to beautiful sunrises. I visited Murosanji Temple's Okyo Rosetsukan Gallery to admire its must-see paintings—be cautious as the entrance road is narrow! In response to tsunami measures around Kushimoto town hall/fire department/hospital relocated onto elevated areas near surrounding hillsides while supermarkets like Oakwa(Daiso) remain accessible nearby opposite station premises

    Very comfortable

    This was my first stay. I was happy to find a drink bar that included decaffeinated coffee and detox water. The breakfast buffet had a wide variety of options, including gluten-free bread. The Onsen was very relaxing, but I was slightly concerned about hygiene as there seemed to be a child who clearly wasn't potty-trained in the bath. I would like to stay here again when traveling to Wakayama.

    It was excellent.

    This trip to the Kinan area was with family and my aunt. The Hotel offered all-inclusive meals, a café, and alcoholic beverages, allowing us to enjoy our stay without opening our wallets or feeling hesitant around each other. It was very relaxing. The baths were clean and accessible anytime. I would love to use this chain Facility again for a road trip! Highly recommended for family trips with members of various ages. The buffet meals, both breakfast and dinner, featured an abundance of local ingredients with a wide variety of dishes—everything was simply delicious!

    Resort Hotel

    The Resort Hotel offers a great view, and although it is old, it is clean with spacious Rooms that provide a relaxing stay. For dinner, there was no main dish, and the live kitchen only served dumplings. There were few Japanese or local dishes, and many of the Western options were international cuisine, which was disappointing. Breakfast had plenty of Japanese dishes with a good variety, which was enjoyable.

    A Resort Hotel with a lounge and great views

    Previously, we stayed at the same chain in Nanki Minabe and enjoyed the meals, so this time we brought our elderly parents to Kushimoto. The scenery was beautiful, and both the lounge and the large public bath lounge were relaxing. However, dinner seemed to have changed due to rising prices; the live kitchen served dumplings, which we had coincidentally eaten for lunch, so it wasn’t particularly impressive. Local dishes like sashimi or tempura were absent, replaced by fried items like croquettes. The menu leaned more towards international cuisine rather than Japanese food, making it unclear what the main dish was for elderly guests—there wasn’t much they could eat. Dinner was quite different from what we experienced in Minabe. Breakfast was good though. Considering we stayed at a reasonable price, it’s understandable but still disappointing as we had high expectations for dinner.

    All-inclusive?

    We were looking forward to the all-inclusive stay, but draft beer in the lounge was only available for three hours, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The lounge is located right outside the large public bath, so it was disappointing that we couldn’t have a draft beer after bathing. The sashimi at dinner and the marinated fish at breakfast were delicious.

    On the first day of Golden Week

    I used this for my first trip to Katsuura. The lounge service was excellent, allowing us to enjoy the sunset in the background. The open-air bath and Room were clean, spacious, and offered an amazing view. Breakfast was abundant and very delicious. I would definitely like to use it again. Thank you!

    The meals were disappointing.

    Grand Mercure Minabe has been a frequent choice for us, but this was our first time staying at Mercure Kushimoto. We were familiar with the Facility and Room from previous visits before it became a Mercure property, so we stayed with that understanding. However, the meals were very disappointing, especially dinner. Unlike Minabe, there was not much variety, and unfortunately, the taste was far from satisfactory. The sushi rice was dry; there were few meat dishes; and the seafood consisted only of frozen items (though the quality of tuna was better than at Minabe). Even if increasing the number of dishes is difficult, improving their taste is essential for repeat visits. (The miso soup had a mild flavor and was delicious.) What we appreciated: Unlike Minabe, it wasn’t overly crowded here—there were fewer groups or children—which allowed us to enjoy a relaxing experience in areas like the large public bath. If prices are going to increase, please focus on improving food quality!

    I stayed at the Mercure Hotel for the first time because I wanted to try it. The all-inclusive price was very attractive. Since it was a weekday, it wasn't crowded, and I could enjoy meals at a relaxed pace. There was a short line initially, but perhaps weekends like Saturdays might be busier. The meals were well-thought-out and delicious. There were some unique menu items (like pho, biryani, chili con carne with an exotic touch), which made it enjoyable. The variety of drinks was abundant, and alcohol was available throughout, so there were no worries about going over budget. The Room was very spacious and nice. It had been renovated and looked clean; however, the low ceilings in the unit bath of the Room and hallway gave off an old-fashioned feel but were within expectations.

    Some guests were loud and disruptive during meals due to intoxication, which was unpleasant. It’s a public space, after all—quite disappointing.

    Great value for money

    This is my second stay, and I am still very satisfied with the great value for money. It was a bit disappointing that the quality of the food slightly declined compared to my first visit, but I appreciate being able to stay at such an affordable price. If there were options like a dinner-only plan or an early morning departure plan, I would consider using this accommodation even more frequently, so please consider offering these options.

    It was great.

    The building shows some signs of age, but it is kept clean and does not feel unpleasant. The meals were very satisfying, though I may have indulged a bit too much. One concern was that although the bath was supposed to be available from 6:00 AM, the outdoor bath remained locked, and it was disappointing that a female staff member came in later to unlock it. It would be better if it were unlocked by 6:00 AM as scheduled. Overall, I was satisfied and would like to stay here again.

    The elevator display is completely unreadable. Immediate improvement is needed. Meal times should be scheduled into specific slots, as both dinner and breakfast required waiting in long lines, leaving a negative impression.
