“All-inclusive” in name only.
I made a Reservation because I was drawn in by the “all-inclusive” offer, but there wasn’t even a single bottle of mineral water in the Room refrigerator. During the welcome drink hours (15:00–18:00), there was neither beer nor sparkling wine available. Since we checked in at 18:00, we couldn’t have anything to drink at all. After our bath, during the nightcap hours (21:00–23:00), there was still no beer or sparkling wine—so what exactly is being advertised as “all-inclusive”? In the end, we couldn’t drink even a single drop of beer or sparkling wine, and it felt like we were deceived. Other guests were saying the same thing and were angry as well. This should be corrected: it is not all-inclusive; rather, beer and sparkling wine may be available only as welcome drinks from 15:00 to 18:00.

With my son's family
This is a favorite place for my friends, and we stay here a few times a year. This time, six of us stayed with my son’s family. They arranged two adjacent Rooms for us. My grandchild was delighted to watch the trains from the 6th floor, and we hardly noticed any noise from them. The activity programs—making coasters and bookmarks—became wonderful keepsakes and memories for my grandchildren. The all-inclusive plan also allowed our elementary-school-age grandchildren to enjoy themselves without hesitation. Thank you very much.

Spacious overall, but some areas feel cramped.
The property felt spacious overall, but the dining area was like several Rooms connected together, with many turns, making it hard to tell where the seating was and how far the food stations extended. I wished the restaurant were in a more open, large banquet-hall-style space. The food was delicious. There was only one bath. The women’s side had a sauna, but I couldn’t find a cold plunge—was there one? There was no open-air bath; just one indoor bath. It felt like a bath at a golf course. I think it would be more enjoyable if there were several types of baths. There were also few washing stations, and even though it wasn’t the day before a holiday, more than 10 people were lining up naked. Either go at an off time or be prepared to wait in line. The Room had only a shower. About the lounge: I personally was looking forward to the illustrated kawara senbei crackers, but they were only available at night—I would have liked them available from daytime as well. Also, at night there was no beer, wine, or sparkling wine—only make-your-own cocktails and sake (?), so my husband didn’t drink anything because there wasn’t anything he wanted. I also wanted to make a tatami coaster, but they ran out because the quantity is very limited. I went later without realizing that supplies were so limited, so if you want to make a tatami coaster, I recommend going right after check-in.

The front desk staff are excellent.
Both check-in and check-out were handled excellently by the front desk staff. I would like to stay here again.

Mercure is the best.
This is my fifth Mercure stay—after Kochi, Wakayama, Nagano, and Tottori—and this time in Nara. I love the all-inclusive plan and use it whenever I travel with friends or family. The complimentary tatami coaster and bookmark workshop was something I haven’t seen at any other Mercure, and it was fun even for adults—we were very satisfied to take home a memorable keepsake. Also, the basket provided for carrying towels and other items to the public bath was such a thoughtful touch. The public bath also had ReFa shower heads and hair dryers, which I think will be especially appreciated by women. The only disappointment was that there was no open-air bath. The Room was spacious, and there were so many food options that we couldn’t possibly try everything. The matcha warabi mochi in the lounge also felt perfectly “Nara.” I enjoy visiting temples and collecting goshuin stamps, and there is still so much of Nara left for me to explore—so when I come back, I would like to stay at this Accommodation again.

At check-in, the front desk told me, “Since it’s a three-day weekend, we’re extending dinner hours by 30 minutes.” Since last order is normally 8:30 p.m., I assumed it would be 9:00 p.m., so I went to the dining venue around 8:00 p.m. However, at 8:30 p.m. I was told, “It’s last order time.” I explained what the front desk had told me, but the staff member said, “I’ll check,” and never came back. In the end, I left the venue at 9:00 p.m. Because there were many other guests as well, I had hoped to eat calmly during a less crowded time, so this was disappointing. At the very least, I wanted my question to be answered.

I’d love to stay here again.
The Hotel’s lounge service is outstanding. From 15:00 to 18:00, sparkling wine, red and white wine, and beer are available free of charge with self-serve dispensers, along with coffee, tea, herbal water, and drink machines—you can even make your own cocktails. From 21:00, whisky is also available, and everyone was enjoying it together. In the bath area, there was amazake from 20:00 in a relaxing space, and it was very delicious. The value for money is excellent—after one stay you’ll want to become a repeat guest. The Room was spacious and quiet, and it was spotless with thorough cleaning. Breakfast was very tasty, and the staff were attentive. The staff service overall was also excellent. I’m glad I could stay at such a wonderful Hotel with great service for the first time in a while. I’m looking forward to the lounge changes starting in April. I’d like to stay again. Thank you very much.

I was looking for an Accommodation convenient for sightseeing in Asuka Village, and I wasn’t planning to add dinner, but I thought it might be easier than searching for a restaurant nearby, so I booked a Plan with breakfast and dinner for one night. Dinner seemed to be popular with group guests as well, but the all-you-can-eat crab was replenished generously, there were no empty dishes, and it exceeded my expectations. The staff member in charge of the food was very skilled, and I felt they were excellent at sourcing ingredients. However, while everyone seemed to enjoy using the lounge for a nightcap, it may be better to refrain from bringing children. It might help to separate a kids’ area. Since it seems the lounge has been renovated and set up in a different location, I look forward to seeing how it is after that. I will recommend this Hotel to relatives living in the Keihanshin area, and I would like to stay again when repeating sightseeing in Nara with its many attractions. Also, all of the Hotel staff were so pleasant—this made me like Nara even more.

Despite the affordable price range, guest satisfaction is high.
I had a free day open up the day before my trip, so I decided to stay on short notice and made a Reservation without doing much research in advance. When I arrived and saw the exterior for the first time, I thought it was a fairly old Hotel. However, once inside, it had been well renovated, and even the older parts were carefully maintained—I immediately felt it was quite nice. My Room was a Superior Twin. The interior was calm and modern. It wasn’t very large, but the soundproofing worked well, and the indirect lighting was at just the right brightness. I lay down thinking I’d take a quick nap, but ended up sleeping deeply. The Onsen is located underground, so there is no open-air bath, which was personally disappointing. Still, with decorations that create an outdoor feel and wall colors that evoke nighttime, it felt more spacious than it actually is. It was also very clean throughout, with nothing unpleasant at all. Since it’s all-inclusive, I think the lounge is one of its highlights. They offered non-alcoholic cocktails as well—an excellent selection for both non-drinkers and drinkers—and there were plenty of snacks to go with them. Above all, staff were constantly attentive—refilling items frequently and clearing empty tables—which really increased my satisfaction and appreciation. Dining is another highlight of this Hotel: there’s a wide variety of dishes available. Everything was delicious, and because it’s buffet-style you can customize your meal however you like—I had a great time and left completely full. (There is also a clearly designated kids’ menu area.) At the dining venue as well, staff were just as attentive as in the lounge—always kind—and I truly appreciated it. From check-in to check-out, I could feel how considerate the staff were throughout my stay. It was very comfortable and highly satisfying. I’ve stayed at other Grand Mercure Hotels before and thought I wouldn’t use them again in the future. However, because my experience at Grand Mercure Nara Kashihara was so satisfying, I’ve changed my mind—I’d like to stay regularly from now on. Thank you in advance for your continued hospitality.

This was my second stay, the first in a year. There were no major changes, but both the lounge and dining areas felt calm rather than noisy or crowded, which made it very comfortable. The meals were delicious and plentiful, with local Nara specialties and crab among other options, and I also enjoyed plenty of drinks, including in the lounge. Last year I visited Kashihara Shrine, but this year I went sightseeing in Imaicho. It was just a short train ride away, and I found it appealing that there are various attractions nearby.

I love Mercure.
The provided bath basket was very handy—perfect for carrying bath towels and a change of clothes to the large public bath, and for gathering your belongings to put into a locker. The meals were also delicious, including the roast beef, the local Asuka hot pot, and tea porridge. What I thought was a fried egg turned out to be dessert—and it was wonderful too. However, aren’t the restaurant tables a bit small? The aisles are also narrow, so guests can bump into each other; I even saw someone spill soy sauce. It can feel unsafe when it’s crowded. I really love Mercure. For this trip as well, I chose Mercure first because it’s close to the station, has a large public bath, includes breakfast and dinner, and offers both soft drinks and beer. Next time, I’d like to stay at another Mercure property too.

The service was courteous and attentive.
The service was polite and kind. If I had to say one thing, a few staff members felt a bit cold at times, so there were moments when I would have appreciated a friendlier smile. The Room sofa had some pilling and a few worn spots, but since my main goal was simply to have a place to stay, it didn’t bother me. The station was right in front of the hotel, which made it very convenient. The breakfast buffet had a wide variety of items—I ate too much. The bath area had a nice atmosphere, but it was disappointing that there was no open-air bath.

Onsen Issues
Because it is all-inclusive, the welcome drinks also include unlimited alcohol. However, someone who drank too much contaminated the bath, so we were unable to use the Onsen all day. We couldn’t relax at all.

The Facility is old, but it’s comfortable.
The Room is spacious, and the bath is large and includes a sauna—Facilities that let you relax at your own pace. Nearby are Asuka/Asuka’s ancient burial mounds and temples. We recommend staying 3–4 days and using this place as your base.

There are far too few washing areas!
There were far too few washing stations for the size of the Accommodation, and there were no rinse buckets/showers, so lines formed while guests waited for a spot to open up. Also, perhaps because there was no rinse area, many people came straight out of the sauna and got into the bath as-is, which felt very unhygienic. In the dining area, there were multiple spots on the floor where soup appeared to have been spilled. Also, if you are seated toward the back, the food is quite far away, which would be difficult for guests with limited mobility. The lounge was also quite small; after check-in there were no seats available and many guests were left wandering around. I was able to stay at a very reasonable price, but I have stayed at other Grand Mercure properties as well, so in comparison my comments may sound harsh. The hot spring water was pleasantly silky.

We had a relaxing stay.
I booked a one-night stay with breakfast included. It was a Friday, so the lounge was crowded and the seating felt a bit tight, but the beer served in a large mug was excellent. The sparkling wine was also delicious. There is an Izumiya within walking distance, which made it easy to do some shopping. I used the Onsen in the evening, at night, and in the morning; it was fairly busy at all times. I appreciated the vinegar drink service, and at night they also offered amazake. The water left my skin feeling smooth and was very nice. I went to breakfast early, so there was no line, and I enjoyed a wide variety of dishes—overall it was a very satisfying trip.

It was very disappointing; I won’t be going again.
I returned for a birthday trip because my previous stay was wonderful. This time, however, everything was disappointing. Even though I went on a trip, I ended up exhausted instead, and after returning home I felt so unwell that I had to stay in bed. First, after arriving, I waited 20 minutes to check in. Waiting for 20 minutes while holding heavy luggage feels even longer, and honestly it was very tough. The lounge was completely full. When I asked a staff member where we should wait until seats became available, I was told, “We don’t have a waiting list—when something opens up, you just go there.” I was shocked by both the response and the way it was said. I and one group before/after us lined up and waited for seats to open up, but when we finally tried to head to an available table, a family who arrived later rushed over first and slammed their bag down on the table as if nothing happened—it was unbelievable. The washing area in the large public bath was extremely crowded with a long line of about 15 people, which made everything feel rushed. Several people came into the changing room wearing their indoor slippers from around the Accommodation grounds; it felt far too unhygienic. All tissues in the changing room were empty as well, and the floor was covered with hair and soaked with water. To be honest, this Hotel often created situations where considerate guests would feel uncomfortable. Perhaps someone at the dining venue used tongs incorrectly when serving food; late at night I developed an allergic reaction and went to the front desk to ask if there was anything cold I could use. A male staff member replied while continuing his work: “We only have an ice pack!” What I received wasn’t really an ice pack—it was more like a frozen cooling plate used for keeping groceries cold in summer. It wasn’t easy to apply to the affected area properly, and considering hygiene concerns, I would have preferred something like ice in a bag. In both the large public bath and at dinner, I often overheard other guests complaining about this Hotel’s shortcomings—and found myself agreeing internally many times. Compared with my previous stay here (which led me to leave a perfect Review), service has clearly declined significantly; it felt obvious that maintenance costs or expenses are being cut. Although my rating this time is worlds apart from last time’s perfect score Review , I wanted to share what I actually experienced. This will likely not appear near the top due to its low rating Review , but if it helps someone else make an informed decision, that would be appreciated.

No snacks, unfortunately!
At other Mercure hotels, I was impressed by the high quality of the welcome beer and snacks on arrival. But this time, I was disappointed. The garlic twist snacks and shrimp crackers used to be delicious, but the quality has clearly dropped. I’m surprised how much this small change affected my overall impression. Could you please bring it back to the previous standard? Thank you.

Onsen
The Onsen had an unpleasant smell, which made it uncomfortable. The second time I used it, the smell was less noticeable, so I assumed it might be the natural Onsen scent. I love traveling and was looking forward to buying souvenirs, but weekday hours start at 4:30 PM, so I couldn’t buy anything. Disappointing. The meals and drinks were very satisfying.

Slippers
The Room slippers had such a strong odor that it felt as if they had not been cleaned at all. Even after taking a bath, the smell transferred to my feet, which was very unpleasant. It made me feel I may need to bring my own next time. Please take measures to address this. I stayed in a Japanese-style room, but it felt dusty and I couldn’t stop sneezing. I didn’t notice this when staying in a bed room. I would also like an air purifier to be provided.

Thank you for your support.
On the day of our stay, we were upgraded to a higher-grade Room, which made for a wonderful birthday trip. The Hotel felt bright and open, and had a relaxing atmosphere. Because the Room is on the station side, you can hear trains, but the noise was not particularly bothersome. It is recommended for train enthusiasts. At the same time, you can also see Mt. Unebiyama and feel a sense of history. The wash area and other water facilities were kept clean, and the Room was thoroughly cleaned as well, so we could stay comfortably. We looked forward to dinner, and it exceeded our expectations: there were Nara local dishes such as kakinoha-zushi (persimmon leaf sushi) and botan nabe (wild boar hot pot). The drink corner also offered matcha tea and non-alcoholic cocktails in addition to alcoholic beverages, so even those who do not drink alcohol can enjoy it. Breakfast included Yamato tea rice porridge and Asuka nabe as well. The small donuts were lightly sweetened, melt-in-your-mouth soft, and delicious. Even though it was a holiday period with many guests staying, we were able to eat without long waits thanks to the staff’s smooth service. One disappointing point was that there was no one guiding cars at the entrance parking area; since the parking lot was full, cars lined up with people unsure where to park. If there had been signage for when it is full or staff guidance, I think there would have been no loss of time. Until now we have stayed in central Nara when visiting, but from now on we would like to use this Hotel.

The Onsen was great.
Conveniently located just steps from Kashiharajingu-mae Station. The Onsen was also great. However, there was one disappointing experience. In the lounge in the early evening, I knew it was open until 6:00 p.m. and was about to leave when a female staff member looked at me and loudly said, “It’s until 6:00, so please leave now!” I was shocked. This isn’t a school rule, and I think there are more polite ways to say it. Isn’t this kind of response addressed through staff training or a service manual? It made me feel a lack of hospitality.

Delicious and Luxurious Breakfast
The Room was spacious and very nice. If I had to mention one thing, the pillow didn’t suit me. Other than that, everything was comfortable. The Onsen was spacious and clean. The breakfast buffet was better than I expected—I was pleasantly surprised. I chose bread, and there were many options and it was delicious. The fish nuggets were especially tasty. It became one of the best memories of my trip to Nara. Thank you very much.

The large public bath’s tub is small, so it feels quite crowded with 5–6 people. Moving around in the tub creates waves and can disturb other guests. Also, the area around the tub was too dark, and extra caution was needed because it is a rock bath. Overall, I had a comfortable stay, and I found the staff’s service pleasant.

We were very satisfied with the meals.
It was very convenient to store our luggage in lockers at the Hotel and go sightseeing hands-free, and the bus stop was also very close to the Hotel. We were able to visit Asuka Village (sightseeing, the strawberry fair, and strawberry picking). We were very satisfied with both the meals and the lounge. However, the slippers had an odor, so we would prefer disposable ones. Also, why does the shower in the bathroom sometimes become scalding hot? I have long hair and kept the shower running for a long time—was that a problem? Still, overall we were satisfied. It was our first trip in a while and we had a great time. The staff were kind and also told us the bus times—thank you very much. We would like to stay again.

About Amenities
This is my second stay. There are amenities available in front of the reception desk, but have the available amenities been reduced? I didn’t notice it last time, but this time it felt a bit inconvenient. I would like you to provide shower caps. My hair ends up getting into the Onsen water, so even hair ties would be fine—please make them available. Thank you.

Unfortunately.
We visited looking forward to the Onsen and the all-inclusive experience. The Accommodation is close to the station, and Kashihara Jingu Shrine was an easy walk away, making for a pleasant stroll. We were very satisfied with the lounge drinks as well as both dinner and breakfast—they were delicious. If I had to mention one thing, the seating felt a bit tight, and at times it seemed unsafe with people moving back and forth to pick up food. The recommended carts also made it harder to pass each other, so it felt like there were pros and cons. As for the Onsen we had been looking forward to… Right after entering, I couldn’t stop sneezing and having a runny nose, so I wasn’t able to relax and enjoy it. I don’t know what caused it, but there were several uncomfortable points. The sauna temperature was low while the steam was so intense that you couldn’t even see people’s faces from the entrance; even staying inside didn’t warm my body. No matter how many times I changed the hot water in a wash basin to rinse my towel, the water turned completely white, and my hands smelled of chlorine for quite some time after wringing it out. Even after rinsing off before getting into the bathwater, my daughter and I alternated between sneezing; our noses felt irritated and kept running… Other guests in at the same time were also sneezing. Before we knew it, my mother was shocked by how she couldn’t stop sneezing or having a runny nose and went back to the changing area in less than 10 minutes. We also left the bathing area quickly. Even while drinking water afterward, there were several people sniffling or sneezing. After returning to our room, my daughter’s eyes remained irritated and red for quite a while, which worried me enough to contact the front desk. However, we only received an answer that disinfectant levels were within normal range; it was disappointing that we didn’t feel much consideration for guests’ health concerns. This trip was meant for us to relax and talk at length together, but both companions started feeling unwell right after bathing and ended up lying down early. We have stayed at Grand Mercure in Nagahama and Minabe before with satisfaction, so this time was truly disappointing.
