    A convenient and comfortable Hotel close to the station

    The Hotel is close to the station, and the location was excellent. Overall it was very good, but the age of the Facility was hard to overlook. However, the warm hospitality from all the staff more than made up for it, and I had a very pleasant stay. I also visited the lounge at night; there were many children and it was quite lively. On the other hand, I felt that this may have helped spread out some of the crowding in the large public bath. The Onsen large public bath seems to have been renovated, so it was comfortable to use. It was also great to be able to try a ReFa shower head and hair dryer. Also, having lockers where you can store your luggage after checkout was extremely helpful. Having the Hotel hold luggage is fine too, but being able to drop off and pick up your bags regardless of how busy it is feels very convenient.

    A Refreshing Getaway

    This was my fourth stay at Mercure Kashihara. Thank you for kindly answering my questions in advance. This time, we stayed with a large group including other relatives. We enjoyed beer and snacks in the lounge (the kids said the biscuits were delicious), and then went to the craft area. We had fun making nice coasters and spending time before dinner. At dinner, we shared everyone’s feedback. The grilled ayu and yakisoba (Kashihara yakisoba?) left the strongest impression—everyone said they were very tasty. In particular, I hope you will keep serving the yakisoba in the future. The eel and shabu-shabu were also good (though I would like less fatty meat), and of course the strawberry Mont Blanc and cream puffs (even the pastry was delicious) were excellent as well. The only disappointment was the tempura (?) served in a cup—I would have preferred it from the live kitchen. Also, it was disappointing that there was no nori at either dinner or breakfast. Nori is essential for elderly guests at breakfast, so if possible, please consider offering it. After dinner, we enjoyed the lounge again. Everyone liked the ramen and edamame. Overall, it was a relaxing family stay, which we really appreciated. Mercure Kashihara is starting to feel like our second home. We look forward to visiting again soon.

    Since we stayed during the summer holidays, it was quite crowded, but it was great value for money, and we enjoyed the buffet with its creative and delicious menu. What concerned us most was the changing area of the large public bath. We hope it can be cleaned a bit more thoroughly. Next time, we will stay again at a different time of year.     Check-in takes far too long.

    Arrived a little after 3:00 PM. Even though it was a Sunday stay, there was a very long line waiting to check in... In the end, we couldn’t enter our Room until after 4:00 PM. We were told that only the representative should line up, but there weren’t enough seats in the lobby for everyone else to sit. I wish you had considered some countermeasures. The welcome lounge was enjoyable with beer and other options, but I really hope you reconsider the selection at the nightcap lounge. There is no beer or sparkling wine, for example. Regarding dinner, I was disappointed that the rare tuna harami steak wasn’t as rare as shown in the photos. It was also disappointing that most of the shabu-shabu meat was fat. Since we cook it ourselves, there were pieces of leftover meat from previous guests floating around... I would have liked it if those (along with any scum) had been skimmed off in advance. I felt various improvements are needed. I’ve stayed at several Mercure properties so far, and what stood out compared with other Hotel stays was that this one has plenty of seating in the lounge. Also, since the Onsen is available from 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM the next day, I could use it once more after breakfast before departure. There were pros and cons overall, but we had an enjoyable stay. Thank you very much. Now then—where should I stay next time at Mercure?

    Our family of four s...

    Our family of four stayed here. On arrival, staff were handing out somen noodles to guests, which was a fun touch. You load your luggage onto a cart and take it to your Room yourself, but there weren’t many carts available and we had to look for one when we arrived. Meals are buffet-style and everything we tried was delicious. Perhaps because of the season, sweetfish (ayu) was also all-you-can-eat, which we really enjoyed. Beer is all-you-can-drink as well, so there were no extra charges, which was great. The Room was very spacious for four people—two bedrooms and even three toilets—so we were impressed. We paid by card through IKYU in advance, and at checkout there was no additional payment; you simply return the key, which felt very efficient. We previously stayed at the Mercure Hotel in Yatsugatake as well, and the service felt similar, but this stay felt more relaxing than Yatsugatake. They also organize events for children, which shows they are making an effort. We expected long lines for meals, but it wasn’t that crowded. Parking is either underground or in the lot across the street; you pay JPY 500 per night at the parking area. There is also a large public bath with Onsen water, which was nice, but there aren’t many washing stations so we had to wait our turn. It should be fine during less busy periods. We would like to stay here again when visiting Nara. Thank you for taking care of us during our stay.

    All-inclusive

    I’m happy that draft beer is available after check-in. Even though the lounge has been expanded, it was as crowded as ever, probably because it was the weekend. The large public bath also gets so busy at night that you may have to wait for a washing station, so on this trip (my second stay) I went earlier and was able to relax fairly comfortably.

    A Journey Through World Heritage Sites

    I stayed for 2 nights and 3 days to visit the Asuka-Fujiwara Palace Ruins (I stayed under different Plans each night). I was very happy that it was close to the station and that I could enjoy draft beer in the lounge. Dinner was a buffet, so I only had it on the first night, but it was better than I expected. Breakfast was the same on both days, but there were many options, so I enjoyed choosing what to eat. What disappointed me was that the bath was extremely crowded due to repairs and a men/women rotation system. Also, the floor above my Room happened to be the kids’ area in the lounge, and there was a lot of noise from running around until 11:00 p.m., which made it hard for me to sleep since I prefer going to bed early and waking up early. It might have been better if I had stayed in a different type of Room. Overall, I was satisfied.

    Overall, it was good.

    I often stay at Grand Mercure, but on this trip one of the two Rooms we booked felt cramped for sleeping even though it was a four-person Room, which was disappointing. I was worried about getting a table for meals, but at the entrance the staff took our meal vouchers and checked seat availability before guiding us, so there was no need to worry at all.

    The food was delicious with a great variety! The lounge also had a wonderful view, and we were very satisfied. In particular, the female staff member who assisted with clearing tables at breakfast was exceptionally attentive and considerate, which made us feel great from the morning along with the excellent breakfast!

    The quality of the extra bed was poor, which made our stay difficult.

    The third bed was a sofa bed with a mattress that felt almost like springs, making it uncomfortable and difficult to sleep. Breakfast service was 30 minutes shorter than usual, and staff started clearing empty plates well before the end, so we couldn’t eat at a relaxed pace. We had been looking forward to it, so it was disappointing. The lounge was good.

    What was supposed to be a relaxing family trip ended up being exhausting.

    My family loves traveling, and we take a trip somewhere about once a month, both in Japan and abroad. This time, to unwind from weekday fatigue, we chose Grand Mercure Nara Kashihara nearby, and the property felt compact and well-organized. As for the food—our main purpose for traveling—I apologize for being so harsh, but it was at a level I cannot rate positively and felt extremely poor. At dinner, every pre-made dish other than the shabu-shabu was served cold. Is the warming equipment not functioning well? For the tempura, fried items were skewered and set in paper cups, but the balance of batter to ingredients was off, and since it was also cold, we could not finish it. The tuna steak at the live kitchen had not been properly cut with a knife; one piece was left hanging together as a single sheet. The ayu on skewers looked summery but was cold and dry. Even the white rice—perhaps due to an issue with the portioning machine—was served from a rice cooker but was overly soft and mushy. The cookie choux dessert was flattened like a rice cracker, with more than half of the cream spilling out from underneath when served. When I asked if this was really how it should be because it looked so bad, I was told: “Yes, there are individual differences.” The soft-serve ice cream also tasted thin like sherbet diluted with water—did you change suppliers? Breakfast was similar: croissants were dry; grilled fish was rock hard; buns for burgers and croque-monsieur were so hard they were difficult to enjoy; and there wasn’t much else that stood out as something we wanted to eat. I’m sorry to say that we couldn’t eat more than one bite of any dish we took—it felt like wasting ingredients. The lounge had been redesigned with a child-focused concept that felt like an old rural school renovated into something new; however, the previous setup seemed better suited for enjoying drinks. I would also like to note that there appeared to be many staff members whose roles were unclear. We will probably not return; however, this is one of the higher-priced properties within the Mercure group. We hope to see improvements going forward.

    It’s great to be able to enjoy complimentary drinks freely in the lounge.

    I was glad that lounge access was included in the Accommodation Fee. The large public bath in the basement felt a bit small, but the hot spring water quality was good.

    This was my second stay. This time I stayed in a Superior Twin Room, and it was very clean. However, the spacing between the beds felt awkward, which made it difficult to get into bed. The beds were also quite high, so I think some adjustment to the bed setup would be helpful for shorter guests. Still, I enjoyed my time—using the shower in the Room and watching YouTube on TV. I’d like to stay in a Superior Room again next time. I was also able to enjoy many delicious local foods from Nara Prefecture. In particular, the roasted green tea rice porridge and ginger tsukudani were surprisingly delicious. I wanted to buy the ginger tsukudani, but it was disappointing that it wasn’t available for purchase at the Hotel. Each dish was tasty and carefully prepared. The staff were kind as well. It was also convenient for sightseeing—the station and bus stop were right in front of the Hotel, which was great. I’d like to stay again.

    This was my third stay at Mercure Kashihara. I was surprised to see the lounge had been renovated. I heard it was supervised by MUJI, and with a view of the mountains, it has become even better. This time I also added dinner, and the seasonal ingredients—such as sweetfish—were very appetizing. The strawberry Mont Blanc and cream puffs were delicious as well. I was also very satisfied that gluten-free bread was available. If possible, I would appreciate it if the menu could be changed about every two months. I’ve stayed at various Mercure hotels, but this one is close to my home and easy to visit, so I’ll be back again. Thank you very much.

    A highly satisfying Hotel

    I stayed here for one night to visit Hasedera Temple and chose it mainly for the convenient access. The price was reasonable, so I honestly didn’t have high expectations, but my stay exceeded them in every way. In particular, I really enjoyed the happy hour drinks, the varied food menu, and being able to relax in the large public bath. I would love to stay here again if I have the chance.

    Girls’ Trip

    Thank you for hosting our stay with friends of 30 years. The lounge was spacious, with a great selection of drinks and snacks, which made our conversation even more enjoyable. Visiting Kashihara Shrine before breakfast felt wonderfully refreshing, and we were very satisfied with the morning buffet afterward. Thank you very much!

    A Relaxing, Rejuvenating Day

    I’d been wanting to visit Mercure for a long time! I don’t drink alcohol, but I tried just a little “coke highball” with brandy and cola—I got to do what I’d been hoping to do. The dinner and breakfast had so many tempting options, and everything was very delicious. The only disappointment was that the kakinoha-zushi tasted fishy. The Room shower kept turning hot and cold, and the toilet wouldn’t flush after urinating unless I flushed twice, so I used the large flush every time. Even so, I’d like to come again. Thank you for your hospitality.

    Excellent value for money.

    An annual trip with friends. We stayed here after exploring Imaicho. After arriving, we enjoyed beer and wine in the lounge, and at the dinner buffet there was a wide variety of dishes, including local specialties made with regional ingredients—and thanks to the all-inclusive plan, alcohol was unlimited as well. Every staff member was polite, pleasant, and helpful. After that, we took our time in the Onsen, enjoyed the sauna, and then had cocktails at the night lounge. The breakfast buffet also impressed us with its extensive selection. For this price, the variety is truly outstanding. The Room had a modern Japanese style with plenty of space to relax, which was wonderful. My friend said it was an excellent Hotel and was very happy. Thank you very much.

    The large public bath was quite crowded.

    About a 5-minute walk from Kashiharajingu-mae Station (East Exit). Very convenient. I stayed for 2 nights and 3 days. The lounge offers free drinks from 15:00 and again from 21:00. I used the lounge only on the first day. I don’t like beer. The wine was from Chile. No sake. I was hoping for local Nara sake, like at Nara JAL City. I tried the Chilean wine, but I still didn’t like it. Yamato tea was available. There were a few MUJI snacks. The lounge was lively—more like a family restaurant atmosphere. I used it only on the first day and didn’t use it on the second day. In the bath area, there are very few washing stations, and since there are no showers after bathing, there was a long wait. Even though there is a sauna, there’s no shower, no water bucket for rinsing off, and no post-bath rinse area either. So I booked a full-body scrub (60 minutes / 9,500 yen), including full-body shampooing and hair washing. There were only two sets of toner, emulsion/lotion, and cleansing products as well. Amenities are limited. No body wash towel either. Amenities were basically just a toothbrush and a comb. Even though I stayed 2 nights and 3 days, there was no extra yukata provided. High class? Diamond? I’m not sure what the standards are. As an IKYU Diamond member, I received a souvenir gift. Unfortunately, I dropped my eco bag inside the building and it wasn’t turned in to Lost & Found. It’s scheduled to be registered as a World Heritage site in July, so it seems likely that more overseas visitors will come.

    There might be a group staying here.

    On that day, there was a group of 250 guests staying. We were able to avoid the crowds by using the baths early in the evening, but it seems the women’s bath was extremely crowded in the morning. It may have been unavoidable. Other than that, everything was excellent.

    A Kyoto business trip hack: 50 minutes by limited express to sacred healing and a premium all-inclusive experience

    After finishing work in Kyoto, I looked for Saturday-night Accommodation, but the recent surge in weekend Accommodation Fees is truly striking. So I changed my plan and headed a little farther south instead. It’s just under 50 minutes from Kyoto Station by limited express (plus ¥820), and I checked into Grand Mercure Nara Kashihara—an unbeatable location right in front of Kashiharajingu-mae Station, only a 1-minute walk away. In short, it was absolutely the right choice, and the stay delivered satisfaction well beyond the price. This “Grand Mercure” brand is known for Accor, the French global Hotel group, rebranding long-established Japanese properties and launching them nationwide in 2024. With “local touch” as its concept—inviting guests to enjoy each destination’s culture and character with all five senses—the refined spirit of hospitality was very much alive here in Kashihara. After checking in, I headed straight to the lounge I’d been looking forward to. The biggest highlight is its all-inclusive style, where on-site experiences are included in the Accommodation Fee. In the lounge, beer and wine along with locally inspired snacks and sweets are served free-flow, letting you relax without thinking about your wallet and savor time at your own pace. The property also features a large public bath fed by on-site Kashihara Onsen waters. The feeling of tension from a business trip slowly melting away in these soothing baths is pure bliss—something you simply don’t get at an ordinary weekday Business Hotel. And returning to the lounge afterward to enjoy a chilled drink while lingering in that post-bath glow is one of life’s great adult weekend pleasures. The next morning, I visited nearby Kashihara Jingu Shrine right next door to the Hotel. Regarded as the place where Emperor Jimmu—the first emperor—was enthroned, it is often described as “the birthplace of Japan,” and stands among Nara’s most prestigious sacred sites. The moment you step onto the grounds, you’re wrapped in solemn quiet and crisp air that clears away everyday fatigue. A peaceful morning walk through its vast precincts surrounded by fresh greenery made my solo time feel complete—and deeply fulfilling.

    Delicious meals!

    I had to work unexpectedly on the day of my stay and arrived late, but I was glad I could enjoy my meal without being restricted by set dining hours. The food was very delicious, and the staff responded quickly—thank you very much. One disappointing point was that the large public bath was more crowded than I expected, and it was hard to find an available washing area, so I couldn’t relax as much as I wanted. However, I will definitely visit again.

    Excellent value for money.

    Unlimited welcome drinks in the lounge with a panoramic view of Mt. Unebiyama, plus unlimited drinks at dinner as well! I only wish I could have enjoyed even more… The meal featured healthy, comforting dishes such as simmered foods with Nara’s flavorful dashi, vegetable soup, meat dishes, rice porridge, and somen noodles. I’d love to visit again to relax.

    Not what I expected.

    The in-house activities after check-in, such as making tatami coasters and bookmarks, were very enjoyable. As for the meals, they were underwhelming. The burger shown in the center of the promotional photo was not available. The live stage was not very appealing either, and although the photo and description of the eel dish said it was paired with Narazuke pickles, there were no Narazuke on it. There were also few menu options—mostly shabu-shabu and roast beef—and I couldn’t find any other standalone meat dishes in particular. There weren’t any easy-to-eat options like sushi or pizza, and many of the dishes felt unfamiliar. Honestly, nothing really stood out. The kakinoha-zushi was also very thin; it felt about 5 mm thick. Since it’s a Nara specialty, I would have liked them to serve a normal-sized one. Someone who visits often strongly recommended it as being very good, so I went with high expectations and was very disappointed. Also, considering the size of the restaurant there were too many guests, and there were long lines throughout—it was exhausting to keep waiting. Breakfast felt similar; until around 8:30 it was extremely crowded. I tried warming up in the mist sauna in the bath area, but I actually started to feel cold instead. I had imagined using the rock bath shown in photos, but it seems that one is on the men’s side. I did appreciate having ReFa shower heads and hair dryers. Since there wasn’t anything particularly appealing overall, I don’t think I would return.

    A large, traditional Hotel

    Thank you for taking care of us during our Nara trip. At first I wondered if it might be a bit far from the city center, but the roads in Nara are well maintained, so it didn’t feel inconvenient at all. Even though it’s right by the station, the Hotel is spacious. I drove there, and it was very comfortable to be able to use the parking garage with direct underground access. It’s a classic large-scale Hotel that seems rarer these days. Since there were four of us, we made a Reservation for a large Room, and it was truly comfortable. The inside of the Hotel is also very clean. With the all-inclusive plan, you can drink as much alcohol as you like inside the Hotel—there was such a great selection that I honestly wondered if it was really okay! Personally, I was especially happy they had sparkling wine at an all-you-can-drink setup like this. We also had breakfast, and once again I thought, “Is it really okay to have this much?”—there was an amazing variety. All of the staff were wonderful and very attentive people. I believe anyone—people in all kinds of situations—can stay comfortably here. Maybe because of the location, I think the value for money is outstanding. If “Asuka-Fujiwara” becomes a World Heritage site in the future, we might not be able to stay at this price anymore (haha). Thank you very much.

    Breakfast features Nara’s local specialties.

    The Nara-style simmered dish at breakfast had a gentle flavor and was delicious. During the lounge’s reading time, the background music was too loud, and I couldn’t read quietly. I expect a Hotel to be calm and peaceful. At the very least, please keep the atmosphere quiet during reading time.
