    An unusually high proportion of Chinese tourists.

    So many of the staff and guests appeared to be Chinese that I even wondered if the Hotel was Chinese-owned. It’s not something I avoid simply because they are Chinese, but when I could tell from how loud the voices were, it made me appreciate the quietness of Japanese tourists. I never had that impression at the Hotel in Old Karuizawa that I used every summer, but although this place is in Karuizawa, it somehow felt like a foreign Hotel, and I couldn’t relax and spend my time peacefully. Next time, I plan to book my usual Hotel in Old Karuizawa early.

    Excellent hospitality

    I had an issue at check-in and asked for advice. At first, I was told it might be difficult, but after listening carefully, they kindly accommodated my request. I’m truly very grateful. All the staff were pleasant and welcoming. However, perhaps because I’m not used to course dinners, there were a few items in the dinner course that didn’t suit my taste.

    Regarding the service.

    Due to a mistake on my part, I made two Reservations by booking through different sites. When I called in advance about the birthday cake, I was told that there was another guest with the same last name, so I assumed it was someone else and followed the guidance. On the day, it turned out both Reservations were mine. I felt sorry for having made two Reservations, but despite calling ahead, I was still charged twice. I was also disappointed because the front desk had told me there would be a “Welcome Birthday” service when entering the Room on my birthday, but nothing had been prepared. After I pointed it out, we went to the restaurant and when we returned to the Room later, it had somehow been set up. There were several other service-related points that concerned me as well—for example, I would have appreciated being informed in advance if staff needed to enter the Room during our stay. We had a wonderful time at the restaurant. The food met our expectations. Thank you very much.

    I mistakenly made a ...

    I mistakenly made a Reservation thinking it was a luxury Hotel. After entering the Room and spending a few hours there, I hesitated but decided to check out and change Hotels. It is certainly a bright, new Hotel with a pleasant atmosphere. The staff also felt casually friendly. This is not the kind of luxury Hotel where the stay itself feels like an experience. The interior design and bathroom facilities are only slightly above the level of a newer Business Hotel. Considering that in central Tokyo you can stay at places like Palace Hotel for nearly the same price if you choose a smaller Room, I felt the pricing did not match what was offered.

    For a truly satisfying stay

    This was my first stay here. I love the InterContinental Group and have stayed at various IHG properties, but this was my first IHG group Hotel in Karuizawa. The Room by the riverside was wonderful, with plenty of refreshing air. Dinner was delicious across the board and very satisfying. The large public bath was also clean and well maintained. However, there was one disappointing point. At checkout, I requested home delivery for my luggage, but neither the first nor second staff member understood my request accurately. Only after asking to speak with a Japanese staff member did a third person finally assist me properly. Everything had been great until then, so it was very disappointing to end on that note. It may have been a busy time at checkout, but if so, more staff should be assigned so that both international and Japanese guests can be assisted without stress. I think it is good to employ many international staff members, but without stronger internal training—especially communication skills—it becomes stressful for both sides. I strongly hope for improvements going forward.

    Younger guests and international visitors may especially enjoy it.

    It looked very stylish, so I was really looking forward to my stay. Although I visited on a weekday, the 3:00 PM check-in area was crowded with international guests, and (as others have mentioned) the staff seemed fully occupied just handing out welcome drinks to those guests who were taking a long time. They may have been short-staffed. The restaurant and spa were also lively with international guests.

    Because of the unfor...

    Because of the unfortunate rain, we checked into the Hotel early. By chance, my spouse and I joined a soap-carving workshop that was being held while we were in the bath. We were able to enjoy a relaxing time at the Hotel. Dinner felt a bit rushed, perhaps because it was a busy time, but we enjoyed the food—it was delicious. The Caesar salad with stir-fried lettuce at breakfast was especially tasty. Our Room was different from last time, and the sink area was easy to use and very comfortable. After dinner, we made a Reservation at the register for bread for the next day, but it seemed unclear on the following day, so since it is entered into a computer system, I think it could be handled more smoothly.

    Wonderful

    The staff’s hospitality is outstanding. In every respect, this Hotel is better than another Hotel in Karuizawa that costs several times more. Some Chinese guests have poor manners, but I suppose that can’t be helped given Japan’s government policies.

    A Hotel with Beautiful Lighting

    Overall, it was a Hotel with a wonderful atmosphere. The reception staff were friendly and welcoming, and the beautiful lighting at night was especially impressive. The large public bath was also clean and very pleasant to use. (I thought it might have been even better if the guest rooms were connected to the indoor corridors, but that may depend on personal preference. Also, for some reason there were many lockers without keys. Since this clearly didn’t match the number of bath users, I wondered if keys are often lost.) The T-bone steak I had at the restaurant in the evening was excellent!

    Overall, it was disappointing.

    - The washroom door would not lock, so I called staff for assistance, but they did not adjust it and simply said, “It closes, doesn’t it?” Even after I showed them that it would not close when I tried myself, they insisted that this was normal. It was very disappointing. - Mobile reception was poor and the Wi‑Fi signal was very weak, making it difficult to use. It did end up being a digital detox. - The bathroom floor was extremely slippery and felt dangerous. - I stayed for 2 nights and 3 days with breakfast and dinner included. On the first day there was no explanation of the dishes and table service was limited, which was disappointing. Even when I ordered coffee, it took a long time to arrive—I had to ask twice before it finally came. Coordination among staff did not seem very good.

    The dining and spa are excellent.

    We chose a one-night, two-day Plan with an Italian dinner included. Since we have growing children with big appetites, we also ordered à la carte dishes, and everything was delicious. We also booked a massage at the spa, and it was very skillful—so much so that we’d go regularly if we lived nearby.

    From the warm welcom...

    From the warm welcome to the kind service throughout our stay, it was perfect for a relaxing trip. We stay at many Accommodations, and we were very satisfied with both the high quality of the food and the excellent hospitality. The only disappointments were that we couldn’t secure a dinner restaurant Reservation when booking at the last minute, and as we were traveling with children, we felt some areas weren’t cleaned thoroughly enough—so it may be best to be a bit careful about how you use the room. In particular, there was quite a lot of bird droppings and dead insects on the balcony, and it felt like only the chairs and table had been cleaned.

    Because my expectations were high.

    I stayed in the Standard Twin Garden View during Golden Week. The Room felt a bit small. It was disappointing that the toilet was not separate. I also used the gym and was surprised that even the treadmill was not motorized. I would like to see better facilities. Breakfast was delicious. Overall, despite the high price, I didn’t feel very satisfied. I may not stay again.

    The Facility’s exter...

    The Facility’s exterior and overall atmosphere were wonderful! The misty nighttime scenery was especially magical. However, I felt the welcome drinks could have been a bit more substantial. I also thought this Facility was very photogenic.

    It became a wonderful keepsake.

    This was a last-minute stay to celebrate my son’s junior high school graduation and high school entrance. The Room was comfortable, the room service exceeded our expectations, and the Onsen was wonderfully relaxing. Even though it was a sudden trip, staying at this Hotel gave us a truly memorable time. Next time, I’d like to visit again with my husband so we can come as a family.

    We stayed for a bela...

    We stayed for a belated birthday celebration for my partner. The meals were very delicious, and we were satisfied with the Onsen. The Room was also very clean and comfortable. The staff member who assisted us at check-out spoke to us in a very friendly manner and left a wonderful impression. Thank you very much. There were only two things that concerned me. When we entered the Room after check-in, I found several strands of hair under the sandals provided for going to the Onsen. Since this is an Indigo Hotel and our expectations were high, that was very disappointing. Also, the room key we were given was quite dirty, which was also disappointing. Because we were staying to celebrate my partner’s birthday, I chose not to mention these issues directly to the staff at the time. He said overall it was a fun stay and he was satisfied, so I’m glad about that. I hope you can improve on those two points mentioned above. I also truly enjoyed our stay and was satisfied overall. Thank you very much.

    Overall, it was great.

    The facilities were good, but I had concerns about the following service aspects: - During dinner, there was a man in a suit rushing around quickly, which felt hectic. Additionally, immediately clearing plates as soon as they are finished seems inappropriate. It would be better to wait for a while and then ask, "Are you finished?" before removing them. - At checkout, despite having already completed Online Credit Card Payment for the accommodation fee, I was charged again. When I explained that payment had been made, an apology was given; however, it was preceded by the comment: "It seems you made changes yesterday..." Since IKYU.com allows changes to Online Credit Card Payment until the morning of the previous day due to system specifications, invoices should be prepared based on the latest information. Statements that could make it seem like an error is being blamed on guests should be avoided. - When my husband and I tried to board the return shuttle bus and asked an employee at the boarding area if there was space available, we were told there were two seats left. However, as we attempted to board, another pair of guests came from behind us and boarded ahead without any intervention from staff. While we managed to take another bus afterward without issue, employees present at such situations should ensure proper order rather than just standing idly by.

    When visiting Karuizawa, staying at Indigo is a tradition for our family. The staff's hospitality, the comfort of the Room and Facility, the atmosphere, cleanliness, and perfection of the restaurant's cuisine are all impeccable.

    It was a very comfortable stay.

    The room, Onsen, and meals... everything was perfect for a comfortable stay. We used the service to celebrate my parents' wedding anniversary, and despite the last-minute request, we deeply appreciate the thoughtful anniversary hospitality. We would love to visit again!

    A warm and welcoming Hotel!

    Late autumn in Karuizawa, greeted and soothed by the warmth, sounds, and scent of the wood-burning stove at the entrance. The Room and spa interiors also exude the warmth of wood, offering a sense of tranquility. The restaurant meals are high-quality and satisfying. They had just started decorating for Christmas, making me think winter here must be equally wonderful!

    Overall, a good Hotel, but...

    The Room was clean, the meals were original and very good, and the effort of the Hotel staff was commendable. However, the in-room coffee maker was slightly difficult to use, and it would have been helpful to have instructions on how to use the room key.

    The long-awaited Hotel Indigo Karuizawa that I always wanted to visit.

    Seeking relaxation, I stayed alone in Karuizawa for 2 nights. On the first night, I stayed at this long-awaited Hotel. Since I had a spa Reservation, I used the public bath before the treatment. During that time, a cleaning staff entered without greeting and left the bath entrance door half-open. While washing my hair, I had to get up to close it myself. After leaving the bath and entering the dressing room, I found that my sandals from the bath were carelessly placed where guests walk barefoot. The washing area in the public bath has stylish wooden partitions between each station; however, due to poor maintenance, there was mold and an unpleasant odor. The wash buckets also had mold on them and were unusable. In my Room, I discovered that one of the water bottles provided was already opened; shocked by this, I requested a replacement while also reporting what happened at the bath. They apologized and offered me some sweets as compensation. Later on, when my TV stopped working, I contacted instant service again for assistance. A different staff member came to address it but mentioned that during cleaning in the bathroom earlier they did greet me; however since "I was washing my hair," they assumed I didn’t hear them—this left me speechless! From start to finish during their presence in/around bathrooms earlier—I knew exactly what transpired—and if anything wasn’t audible—it must’ve been extremely faintly spoken! Despite multiple complaints stacking up alongside equipment issues—their response felt dismissive enough making everything worse altogether! The apology sweets became meaningless after such remarks—I couldn’t even touch those anymore! Excuses made by employees & conveyed directly towards guests like myself only worsened things further overall experience-wise too!! Lackluster greetings/unpleasantness/moldy-smelling areas/non-functional TVs etc., all seemingly blamed onto ME instead somehow?? It felt unfairly treated akin-to being labeled merely another “complainer” outright unjustifiably so!! Even within Rooms themselves—cleanliness standards fell short repeatedly observed instances ranging balcony chairs covered stray hairs/sink stains/dust accumulation visible everywhere including molds present sporadically throughout spaces therein disappointingly noticeable despite relatively recent opening status supposedly maintained better ideally expected otherwise surely!!     The breakfast is excellent, but...

    The breakfast was excellent. Both the variety and quality were highly satisfying. However, considering the price, the dinner fell short of expectations. The pasta was not only poorly cooked but also lacked quality in the noodles themselves. As for the wine pairing, I would have appreciated a selection of higher-quality wines. Having experienced pairings at various places before, this one was unfortunately disappointing. Overall, there was a lack of depth in flavor and it felt more like cost-cutting rather than offering a rich dining experience for the price paid. I believe that if dinner were offered as a buffet with upgraded options compared to breakfast, more guests would choose to dine here in the evening as well. The breakfast buffet truly exceeded expectations!

    I had a wonderful time with my mother.

    This is my fourth visit. The staff, Facility, and meals all exude a sense of hospitality. The seasonal welcome drinks are delicious and make me feel happy. I started coming here when I wanted to take a break from the busy daily routine and relax. When I want to give my loved ones a moment of healing, I will definitely visit again.

    A Hotel with Beautiful Autumn Foliage

    I stayed for one night with a friend. The Italian cuisine was wonderful, and thanks to IKYU, we enjoyed delicious wine. The public bath was clean, and we could relax as it felt like a private experience. The garden with autumn-colored trees was beautiful, the property felt new and clean, and the fireplace in the lobby added warmth during the autumn season—such a lovely Hotel. I would love to stay again for a relaxing visit.

    The restaurant staff...

    The restaurant staff and front desk were efficient and energetic, all wearing sneakers. The tranquility of the open-air bath was soothing, allowing us to feel immersed in nature and truly relaxed. Dinner was included, and the course menu exceeded expectations in both quantity and taste. The fruit sauce added a delightful touch. The café latte at breakfast was also delicious. Although it was a buffet, warm beverages could be ordered and brought directly to your table. The Facility felt new and clean, with a light and casual interior design. I especially loved the pajamas!

    Hotel not worth the price

    Stayed for one night on a weekend in October with my spouse, including breakfast and dinner. The total accommodation cost exceeded 100,000 yen for two people (excluding drinks at the restaurant). In conclusion, my impression is that this is a "hotel not worth the price." I frequently travel across the whole country and usually choose accommodations priced between 80,000 to 150,000 yen per night for two people with meals included as an assurance of service, facilities, and hospitality (aiming for hotels rated four stars or higher). Hotel Indigo Karuizawa is also a four-star hotel and cost over 100,000 yen per night for two people with meals included. I expected services and comfort comparable to other accommodations of similar grade I’ve stayed at before but was quite disappointed. For those seeking photogenic spots or trendy designs as their main priority, this might be suitable. However, if you expect quality or service matching the price and four-star grade level, I strongly recommend considering other hotels. There are many excellent accommodations in Karuizawa. **Room:** Being a new accommodation overall made it very clean. However, even considering it was a weekend stay in a standard room of 34 square meters at the mentioned price point felt unjustified due to its interior design quality. The walls seemed thin as we could clearly hear laughter from the neighboring room which was surprising. **Meals:** Both meals were served in dedicated dining buildings; since they serve Italian cuisine perhaps aiming for casualness? But honestly resembled family restaurant-level interiors and service standards instead. For dinner after being seated promptly ordered celebratory drinks yet waited about fifteen minutes before receiving them while course dishes arrived seemingly based on kitchen readiness rather than diners' pace leading towards long gaps between servings. Breakfast around eight o'clock faced overcrowding beyond venue capacity resulting standing entrance waits exceeding thirty minutes alongside numerous others queued similarly waiting access inside meanwhile meal offerings themselves matched typical family restaurants hence valuable morning time better spent exploring alternative breakfast options elsewhere locally available nearby instead witnessing staff clearing plates messily combining leftovers onto single dish amidst surrounding diners actively eating shocked us witnessing such practices firsthand!

    About Noise

    The Hotel itself was very nice, but while I was enjoying a drink in the lobby (which also serves as a bar) at night, some Chinese guests were being very loud and disruptive, seemingly drunk, without regard for others around them. It ruined the atmosphere. I felt that Hotel staff should have intervened in such situations, which left me feeling uncomfortable. Additionally, some guests wore outdoor slippers into the women's bath area (I pointed it out to them), showing a lack of manners.
