    1st Anniversary Trip

    Our 1st anniversary trip. It was our first time staying at Fufu, and we arrived with high expectations. The service was truly top-level, and we felt genuinely well cared for. The food was among the best quality we’ve ever had. I think it would be nice to have a post-bath relaxation area just outside the large public bath. Other than that, everything was perfect. We will definitely stay again! Thank you very much to all the staff.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    Although we stayed for only one night, the 12:00 checkout allowed us to relax and take our time. It felt busy at check-in and in the restaurant, but once we entered our Room it was very quiet. The Room was spacious, and we were able to rest comfortably. We arrived by public transportation, and the Shuttle Service was smooth and very helpful. All of the staff were kind and attentive, though a few seemed still new to the job—please keep it up. If we have another opportunity, we would love to stay again. Thank you very much.

    An Accommodation You’ll Want to Visit Again and Again

    I’ve always loved Fufu Kawaguchiko and have stayed there almost exclusively, but I finally got to try Hakone as well. In conclusion, this was also an Accommodation I’ll want to visit again and again. The person who guided us from check-in to our Room seemed to be from overseas. Perhaps because she truly understands Japanese hospitality, she was great at starting casual conversation, and her warm service made for a very comfortable beginning. Providing this level of service after learning such a difficult language must have taken tremendous effort. Imagining how hard she worked genuinely moved me. In the Room, I was asked whether I drink alcohol; when I said I don’t, they replaced the beer in the refrigerator with sparkling water. It was a service I’d never experienced at other Fufu properties, and once again I was impressed. Maybe because it was winter, the trees on the mountain visible from the large public bath had no leaves—and that gave the view its own charm. The scenery stretched out before me; simple yet overwhelming. From the Room as well, you can enjoy nature. Lying down in the relaxation space next to the in-room bath while gazing at the great outdoors, listening to birdsong, then warming up again in the Onsen—it was pure bliss. At Fufu, meals are always what I look forward to most, and Hakone’s course suited my tastes perfectly. Unlike other affiliated properties, three items in the course were selectable options, and choosing what I liked added an exciting touch. With Fufu’s cuisine it’s not only about flavor—there’s also playfulness in texture every time, which makes it such a joy. Of course I want to see this nature again—but more than that, it makes me want to return because it’s Fufu. For me, Fufu is one of a kind—an irreplaceable presence… haha I will definitely come back again. Thank you very much.

    A Highly Satisfying Accommodation

    This was my second stay. I have stayed at several Fufu properties, and the food at every Hotel is consistently excellent. At Fufu Hakone, I especially appreciated being able to choose from several menu options, which made it easy to avoid a few ingredients I’m not fond of. The timing of each course was also perfect, allowing me to enjoy the meal in comfort. The Onsen water differs between the large public bath and the bath in the Room, so I was able to enjoy the Onsen many times. I would love to stay again when visiting the Hakone area.

    Both the facilities ...

    Both the facilities and the Room were wonderful, and we were able to relax at a leisurely pace. The staff’s service was also very courteous. Every meal was delicious, beautifully presented, and truly impressive. The herbal tea in the Room had a refreshing flavor and was so good that we bought some to take home. We would love to stay again.

    I’d like to see one more step of attention to detail.

    I’d like to note a few minor concerns about the details. They are all small points, but when an Accommodation in this price range positions itself as “small luxury,” expectations naturally become more exacting. 1. First, although the living-room sofa area has a beautifully composed layout, an air purifier was placed right beside it. It felt somewhat abrupt and detracted from both the sofa’s presence and the overall harmony of the space. At this level, I would expect even functional equipment to be thoughtfully integrated into the design. 2. Some furniture showed lifting or peeling veneer, which diminished the visual finish. The original amenities provided at the vanity smelled great and felt excellent to use, but the bottles looked aged and label wear was noticeable. 3. The large public bath had similarly mixed impressions: while the spatial staging and lighting were well executed, it was disappointing to see slightly worn chairs in the washing area and what appeared to be budget hair dryers. In terms of fixture selection, there were moments when even some Business Hotels seemed more considerate. 4. Complimentary in-room drinks and juice/beer near the large public bath were appreciated, but the selection itself felt rather simple. For an Accommodation of this class, I found myself hoping for a more curated offering—such as local drinks with a story or small regional sweets unique to the area. 5. Most memorable was the “healing music” content on the in-room TV. When I played it, it consisted of visuals and audio that felt like free YouTube stock material; neither image quality nor musical production seemed particularly high. I was honestly surprised that something meant to enhance relaxation instead reduced immersion in an otherwise well-designed space. Aside from these points, I was fully satisfied with both the design of the space itself and the quality of meals. That is precisely why it feels so unfortunate that a lack of attention to such details significantly lowers the overall impression.

    Wonderful

    This was my first stay at Fufu Hakone. It was wonderful to be able to enjoy two different types of Onsen. As expected from “Fufu,” the dining did not disappoint—especially the option to choose dishes. They kindly ask about allergies either way, but it can be hard to mention ingredients you’re not allergic to yet simply don’t prefer. Thanks to that flexibility, I ended up with a course I was truly satisfied with. Also, I accidentally left something behind due to my own carelessness, and I really appreciate how quickly you helped me. I’d love to visit again in a different season.

    Your First “Fufu” Experience

    The Room was a comfortable size, with twin beds in a separate room. The layout was very convenient, with easy access to the large sofa and bathroom, and the dressing area had underfloor heating so we never felt cold. It was quiet and we were able to relax at ease. Dinner was prix fixe with three choices, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious. Thank you to all the staff for your hospitality. We would love to visit again.

    It was comfortable.

    The Room, service, and meals were all excellent. We were able to stay comfortably even with a small child. It was also great that the spring source for the in-room bath and the large public bath is different, so we could enjoy a variety of water qualities. I can see why it’s so hard to get a Reservation. One of the souvenirs was different from what we had ordered. Anyone can make mistakes, but what matters is how they are handled afterward. I’m glad it was dealt with properly. (That said, it was a bit inconvenient that we couldn’t contact the Accommodation directly and had to go through something like a central support center, which made communication slightly difficult.)

    The bath and the meals were both excellent.

    About the baths I heard that the indoor bath and the large public bath have different types of hot spring water, so I tried both, and they were both excellent. However, the faucets in the washing area are a bit hard to turn due to their design, so they may be difficult for elderly guests or children with less strength. About the meals There was a wide variety of ingredients, and everything was delicious. The portions were a little large for me, so I think slightly smaller servings would have been fine. Also, the staff were very helpful, and the in-Room loungewear was comfortable.

    This is a Hotel I would definitely like to stay at again.

    This was my first time staying with the Fufu group. I loved being able to enjoy two different types of Onsen water—both in the bath in our Room and in the large public bath. The Onsen quality was excellent and left my skin feeling so smooth! There was absolutely no chlorine smell, and it was an Onsen that made me want to soak again and again. The amenities were more than sufficient, and when I asked for an extra shampoo for the Room, I was happy to find it was L’OCCITANE. And above all, the meals were outstanding. For dinner, we chose three items from the menu, but everything looked so delicious that it was hard to decide. The shrimp and bamboo shoot tempura in particular was amazing, and my husband kept saying even after we returned to our Room how incredibly good the bamboo shoot tempura was—and how skilled the cooking must be!!! The duck-and-scallion takikomi rice at dinner was also exceptional. Since we couldn’t finish it all, they kindly made onigiri for us to take back to our Room so we could enjoy it later at a relaxed pace, which I really appreciated. In the evening we sat side by side at a private booth-style counter table, and in the morning we were shown to a window-side table. Breakfast became my best breakfast among all the Hotels in Hakone. We could enjoy many different dishes little by little, and I was very satisfied. These days it’s common to be served by international staff at airports and Hotels, but here we were assisted by several Japanese female staff members. They were efficient and clearly experienced; from check-in through dinner, breakfast, and check-out everything went smoothly, with truly heartfelt hospitality throughout. Not once did I have an unpleasant moment. Next time I’d love to visit for two nights and three days. I don’t usually write a Review, but this Accommodation was so wonderful that I wanted to share. We will definitely return!

    The meals are especially delicious.

    We had a very satisfying stay. Many of the staff were young, but they welcomed us with warm smiles and excellent service. The meals were especially delicious, and we enjoyed being able to choose the main dish. My daughter was truly impressed by how good the food was. The tuna was outstanding, and I particularly loved the duck takikomi rice. We would love to visit again.

    Be sure to try our selectable dinner options!

    “Fufu,” built around the concept of small luxury, is a standout brand—and at Fufu Hakone, the highlight is surely the “choose-your-dinner” option. While staying true to classic traditions, it’s thoughtfully updated for modern tastes, so both big eaters and those with smaller appetites can fully enjoy the meal. All Rooms come with a private open-air bath that you can use anytime, 24 hours a day, which was wonderful. The complimentary ice cream and drinks in areas like the public bath were also a nice touch, and everything—from the space to guest flow—felt well planned and comfortable. They were considerate about meal times and checkout as well; we stayed as a family with our 2-year-old child and had an extremely comfortable experience.

    Beloved Fufu

    I have stayed at Atami several times, Kawaguchiko, and your affiliated Sekaiye, and I was left with a strong impression of how welcoming you are to families with children and how delicious the meals are. This time, we chose Hakone. Our stay once again gave our whole family a truly relaxing and highly satisfying time, and we are sincerely grateful. We had heard that Hakone offers a prix-fixe style dining experience, which we were looking forward to. It was fun being able to choose according to our preferences, every dish was excellent, and we were genuinely satisfied. The abalone in particular was large and very tender—especially memorable. We also found it very appealing that the in-room bath and the public bath use different hot spring sources, allowing us to enjoy each water quality. There are many international staff members at Fufu, but I sometimes see Review comments on Reservation sites viewing that negatively. As someone who has stayed many times, I have never felt that way. I think it is wonderful that so many people from overseas come to discover Japan’s charms, and that those who come from abroad to work here learn and practice Japanese hospitality. I also find it admirable that you are expanding an environment where international staff can thrive. I have not yet had the chance to visit Fufu Atami since its renovation, so I am already looking forward to my next stay.

    I had a very satisfying and relaxing stay.

    We stayed as a group of three with my elderly parents. The Room was spacious, with a separate living area and bedroom, and the sofa was large enough for all three of us to sit comfortably. It was a wonderful layout that allowed us to relax. An extra bed was prepared during dinner time, and both the size and comfort were comparable to the built-in beds. The open-air bath in the Room was also generously sized, which made it feel truly luxurious. We also enjoyed choosing from the highly rated prix fixe dinner menu—deciding what to order was part of the fun. The pacing of service at dinner was just right, and every dish was beautifully presented and tasted excellent. Thanks to an IKYU benefit, we were able to use late check-out, so we could enjoy a morning bath before taking our time over breakfast, which we really appreciated. Both dinner and breakfast offered many dishes, each one carefully prepared and beautifully done—and everything suited our tastes. We were very satisfied overall. My elderly parents said they were full but still finished everything, so they seemed very happy (laugh). Many of the Accommodation staff were young or from overseas, but the service was very pleasant. (Overly formal service with too much explanation can feel uncomfortable for me, so I appreciated that it was polite yet appropriately unobtrusive.) If I had to mention a few wishes… You can wash your hair in the Room bathroom as well, but since it isn’t separated from the sink area, I worried about getting the floor wet with water or foam. So I used the public bath instead—but it seemed many guests felt the same way, as both the washing area and changing room were fairly crowded around 9 p.m. I thought it would be nicer if those areas had a bit more space. It would also be great if there were a relaxation space after bathing where you could enjoy drinks or ice cream. The Onsen water quality in the public bath—thicker and milky white compared with the Onsen in our Room—was especially wonderful! We happened to visit during an extreme cold wave, and since moving between our Room, the public bath, and dining area required walking outdoors between separate buildings (warm outerwear is provided), my elderly parents seemed quite careful not to catch a cold after bathing. Next time we may consider visiting in a different season. Overall, it was a highly satisfying stay.

    Restaurant seating

    Having stayed at other Fufu properties, I was concerned about the seating in this restaurant. The table we were given was right by the aisle, so it didn’t feel relaxing. Without even a partition behind us, it felt like someone was always hurrying past, and it was hard to enjoy our meal. I think the staff will understand which table I mean, but I felt that seat should not be used. Other than that, there were no particular issues with the service.

    An Accommodation for an Exceptional Stay

    After staying at Fufu Karuizawa, I became a big fan of Fufu, and this time I stayed in Hakone. Check-in was relaxing on a sofa while enjoying a welcome drink. After that, I was shown to my Room and spent a peaceful time in the open-air bath attached to the Room. For dinner, I was able to switch to teppanyaki at the last minute, which made me so excited! I truly enjoyed the marbled sirloin steak. The chef and staff also left a very positive impression with their service. In two weeks, we are planning to stay at Fufu Kyoto for our 25th wedding anniversary, and I’m already looking forward to it!

    Exceptional hospitality, even for families with babies!

    We received exceptional hospitality at this baby-friendly Accommodation. For dinner, they prepared a private dining room, and the Room was stocked with baby items such as a crib, baby bath, and baby soap. They also washed and sterilized our baby bottles, which was a huge help. Deliveries were left in a box next to the Room, so we didn’t need to respond face-to-face—something we really appreciated while traveling with a baby (especially when our hands were full with feeding). They even changed the beer included in the Room to lemon soda for me since I was breastfeeding, and I truly appreciated that thoughtful consideration. The Room also had its own Onsen, so my husband and I could take turns enjoying it many times. Every dish was delicious, and it was fun being able to choose three items from several main options. It was a Japanese course meal with touches of Western cuisine as well—exactly my taste. This is a wonderful Accommodation that we would love to visit again once our child is older.

    I had a relaxing time.

    I frequently use IKYU.com for onsen trips, and the meals at this accommodation were exceptional. While the dishes didn’t feature particularly unusual ingredients or surprising techniques, they allowed us to fully enjoy the natural flavors of high-quality ingredients. The meticulous preparation truly stood out. Both dinner and breakfast were carefully crafted and absolutely delicious. The onsen with two types of spring qualities and the clean, comfortable room were also excellent. However, as the large semi-open-air bath was integrated with the washbasin area, steam caused the sink to become wet, slightly dampening amenities and towels placed there. Additionally, part of the semi-open-air bath was designed as a reclining bath but had a slope that made it slippery and difficult to enjoy lying down. This design also made the overall bathing space feel somewhat cramped. That said, overall this is undoubtedly one of the top-tier luxury accommodations. The "Fufu" brand truly delivers an outstanding experience. I look forward to visiting again!

    I always choose accommodations with an onsen in the room. The onsen was very comfortable. As for the meals, while the tableware was lovely, it was disappointing that I couldn't enjoy a calm dining experience due to the noisy surroundings and frequent movement of staff. It felt more like an izakaya atmosphere... During breakfast, a female staff member from Sri Lanka provided exceptional and thoughtful service. Thank you for your hospitality.

    Used to celebrate my wife's birthday.

    I chose a suite room at a small luxury Hotel for my wife's birthday, and we were extremely satisfied. The design of the Room and the open-air bath were refreshing. We stayed on a cold winter day, but it left us feeling warm and content. The hospitality of the restaurant's hall staff was truly impressive. It became an unforgettable day for us as a couple.

    My first solo trip was amazing!

    I usually visit with my husband, but since he is on a long-term overseas stay, this was my first solo trip. I was a bit nervous before arriving, but the room was compact and comfortable—a cozy space to relax. During my solo meals, the staff kindly engaged in conversation and shared detailed information about the dishes and recommended drinks, so I didn’t feel lonely. In fact, I enjoyed each dish even more than usual. I indulged in the Onsen while admiring the winter mountain scenery!

    Thank you for your continued support. I often visit my favorite accommodation, but as a frequent guest, the three-dish dinner selection menu doesn't seem to have changed from autumn. I would appreciate it if some creativity could be added.

    Relaxing Accommodation

    In Hakone, we change accommodations every time to celebrate birthdays and wedding anniversaries. This was our first stay at Fufu Hakone, and they showed great attention to detail by confirming the celebratory plate in advance. Previously at Suishoen, we had teppanyaki, so this time we opted for Japanese cuisine. The meals were as delicious as the reviews suggested, and the option to choose is a great feature. Hot dishes were served hot and freshly prepared. Starting at 7 PM, there was no waiting for food; however, when it overlapped with the 8 PM start time for others, there was a significant wait. It might be unavoidable but seemed like our server also changed during that time. For dessert, they prepared two types of plates for us; however, compared to other hotels we've stayed at before, the photo-taking felt a bit rushed or less thoughtful. While they did engage with us during this process and took photos kindly enough, compared to what we've received in previous years elsewhere, it felt slightly lacking in consideration—but still appreciated as a memorable gesture! They also made rice balls from leftover rice just like Suishoen does—such thoughtful service! My husband enjoyed them as a late-night snack since alcohol tends to make him eat less during meals. However, I found the selection of soft drinks limited when opting out of alcohol. The onsen experience was delightful with two types available to enjoy! The room had spacious sofas where we could relax comfortably using cushions—it was just right in size for us. As part of their Diamond benefits program gift package—we received souvenirs which made us very happy! Next time around (perhaps another season), we'd love trying their teppanyaki offerings instead! Since we're more into Western-style breakfasts personally—it would’ve been nice if options similar-to-Suishoen existed here too because choosing flexibility often influences where-we-stay decisions overall!

    New Year Relaxation

    This year, I celebrated my 60th birthday. Last year, my second grandchild was born, and I have been sending homemade dishes to my eldest daughter's house via Uber every week. As a reward for myself, I stayed at an accommodation. The onsen helped me refresh both my mind and body. The room was very spacious and comfortable. The Orion constellation shining in the night sky felt so close and beautiful.

    We will wait patiently.

    Check-in, meals, and check-out all involved long waiting times. While breakfast was served all at once without any delay, dinner took an exceptionally long time for each dish to arrive. When we asked them to speed up a little, the dishes were served out of order, with the last course arriving first. Considering the price we paid, improvements are necessary.

    A heartfelt relaxation.

    Stayed for one night on New Year's Day. This was my third visit. The staff's courteous and warm hospitality, their smiles, and thoughtful choice of words were truly exceptional. The meals were all delicious, showcasing the natural flavors of the ingredients. The comfort of the Room and the soothing hot water were wonderful, but above all, I felt that this sense of relaxation was thanks to the staff's subtle attentiveness.     Facility, service, and meals I felt that none of them matched the price. To be honest, I was rather dissatisfied, but I learned that this is a Hotel skilled in promotion.
