What Makes Service Truly Meaningful
I enjoyed soaking in the Asama Onsen and truly appreciated the pleasant hot water. I also felt how dedicated the staff were, and I’m grateful for their help with various requests. However, at the reception café, after explaining the parking, no one asked whether we needed Shuttle Service and they returned to café duties; I would have appreciated a bit more consideration for guests. In addition, when we were shown to our Room, not all light switches were explained, and the amenities guidance was insufficient, so we were repeatedly confused and had to go to pick things up from an elevator hall on another floor multiple times. Furthermore, when having dinner with my grandchild, bread was served and when I asked for butter, I was surprised that a female staff member told me “We don’t have butter.” It was strange because raisin butter was available at breakfast.

Highly satisfied
I was extremely satisfied overall, but if I had to mention a couple of minor points: the open-air bath in the Room requires closing the privacy screen while bathing to avoid being seen (it would probably take something like binoculars, though), so it was a shame I couldn’t enjoy the great view at the same time. Also, everything else was so wonderful that the hair dryer felt quite ordinary by comparison. That’s all. The concept, the meals, the complimentary snacks, alcohol, ice cream, juice, milk, and coffee, and even the space where you can fully immerse yourself in reading—everything was deeply satisfying. This is an Accommodation you can enjoy even more with a Multiple Night Stay. The breakfast bread and granola were so delicious that I bought some to take home from the bakery on-site on my way out. I plan to stay regularly. I saw many comments saying the meal portions were small, but when you savor them slowly with good drinks, they were just right for me. Thanks to that, I could also really enjoy breakfast. It was incredibly refreshing!

An Otherworldly Experience
Check-in was handled in a separate building, where we were served oyaki and tea. We were told the oyaki flavors were nozawana greens and sweet red bean paste, and as my friend and I said we wanted to try both, we ordered two kinds. They thoughtfully cut them in half and served them separately—such wonderful attention to detail. They then took us to the main building by tuk-tuk; the driver was extremely polite and even gave us guidance along the way. Both the Room and the bath were excellent. The layout is unique, but with bathrobes provided, we could truly relax. However, the dining felt a bit overly particular. Even though it was written on the menu, having it explained again haltingly made me think, “Do we really need this?” The seasoning also felt overworked; despite great ingredients, I felt it actually dulled the flavors a little. The spectacular library collection and the design that makes full use of the bathing area felt truly one of a kind and left a lasting impression.

An Accommodation to savor the space in your journey and connect with the city
Set in the historic Onsen town of Asama Onsen, this was an Accommodation that lets you enjoy not just “staying at an Accommodation,” but truly “staying in the town.” The map we received at check-in was wonderful, and with it in hand we used the Accommodation as our base to stroll around the Onsen town. Rather than everything being contained within the Accommodation, thoughtful touches make the entire town part of the journey—and even Asama Onsen’s gentle atmosphere became a cherished memory. The interior is refined yet relaxed, creating a comfortable space where you can unwind without pretense. The 24-hour book space is full of clever details that make even non-readers want to pick up a book. Our child was absorbed in the ball pit, and it felt like a place where both adults and children could enjoy their own time. The open-air bath in our room was excellent, but one of this Accommodation’s unique pleasures was taking a bucket and heading out to the public bath “Koyanagi-no-Yu.” The Onsen water is soft on the skin and warms you through to your core long after your soak—so soothing you’ll want to return again and again. Dinner was an immersive experience: watching the chef finish each dish right in front of us at the open kitchen while expertly working over a wood fire. The fragrant smokiness brought out each ingredient’s natural appeal, and every plate reflected careful craftsmanship. Centered on local ingredients, the cuisine isn’t about competing for extravagance—it values savoring this land’s climate and seasons with all five senses. It stayed with us as an experience you can only have here. The curated shop inside was also appealing. It carried Okubo Brewery seasonings used at dinner as well as Jiyujin original items, making souvenir shopping fun. We were happy to buy some granola we had at breakfast so we could relive a bit of our trip back home. The staff were warm and genuine; rather than excessive service, their unobtrusive support—being there exactly when needed—felt especially comfortable. More than for those seeking flashy luxury typical of an Onsen Ryokan, this is an Accommodation I’d recommend to anyone who wants “true richness” and who wants to enjoy staying itself while connecting with local culture. Above all, true to an Accommodation created by Jiyujin, we could feel throughout our stay their commitment not just to this single place but to carrying Asama Onsen as a whole into the future. Visiting with that context makes time spent here feel even more special. It’s an Accommodation that made us want to return in another season—to meet a different face of this town.

I’d love to stay here again.
I stayed here on my first solo trip. I love books, so I was very satisfied, and the bath in my Room was wonderful. The meals were also appealing, using local vegetables and meat. Since I was alone, I was seated at the counter, but it was a bit hard to pass the time, so I would have preferred a table for one. It would have been even better if I could choose my seat. Breakfast was at a table, and both the quality and portion size were excellent. The bacon in particular was delicious. The Room felt a little dark. While it was relaxing, it was slightly too dim for reading. Service varied depending on the staff member—some chatted proactively while others hardly spoke—so there were noticeable differences overall.

A book lover’s dream Accommodation—if only…
An Accommodation with an excellent book selection that makes you want to stay for days. The only drawback is that the lighting isn’t designed with reading in mind, and there aren’t any chairs or sofas suitable for settling in with a book. Aside from that, it’s perfect.

Perfect stay
A beautiful hotel in the scenic Asama Onsen area. The service was warm and welcoming, and there is a large, cozy library on-site. There are also many nearby onsens, cafés, and small shops. I loved everything about my stay.

It was the best vacation!
I had some free time, so I stayed for one night and two days. The delicious food and paired drinks, the book-filled space, and the Room with a great view made for an amazing getaway! The staff were very thoughtful and responded sincerely even to small questions, which made my trip truly comfortable and enjoyable. Next time I visit, I’d like to make more time to stay longer!

Time Spent in Tranquility
It was a wonderful Accommodation where we could relax in peace and quiet. They kindly accommodated our Room requests, allowed an early check-in, and were flexible even with our dinner seating—we’re truly grateful. The Onsen in the Room was at the perfect temperature, and the view of the snow-covered mountains was beautiful. The only disappointment was that the bill at checkout was incorrect. However, it was corrected right away, so there was no issue.

The payment went through!
This time, I stayed in the Koyanagi Room. The Room was beautifully arranged, and I sank into the incredibly comfortable rocking chair, played my favorite music through the speaker, and read a book—gradually feeling freed from everyday life. The meal was a carefully crafted course that you won’t find elsewhere and truly nourished both body and soul. The outdoor bath late at night was also a quietly moving experience. Highly recommended as a special treat for yourself!

Please come and visit at least once.
The mattress and the in-room open-air bath were excellent. I slept very well. It would be nice to have two sets of towels per person. Drinks and ice cream were almost free, but there were no light snacks or packaged snacks at all, which was disappointing. It was my first time using this brand, but the bookshelf concept is unique and interesting. If you love books, a two-night stay is recommended. The meals were neither particularly good nor bad—overall they felt simple. Overall, it feels reasonable at 60,000–80,000 yen; above 100,000 yen feels overpriced.

The atmosphere is exceptional.
The atmosphere of the exterior as seen from the entrance was especially wonderful. The Room amenities were also excellent. The meals were excellent as well, but the property felt very family-oriented overall, so I felt it would be even better if the dining area had a more adult-oriented atmosphere. Still, the staff provided very good service. I would like to stay again.

Meals that showcase local flavors and an endless selection of books to read
I returned with the goal of reading lots of books. Although I made a Reservation for a separate building, I could freely access the bookstore at night as well using a QR code. Thanks to that, I was able to enjoy reading without worrying about the time. What left the strongest impression was the dining. The meals used plenty of ingredients from Nagano Prefecture and nearby areas, and each dish let me truly feel the blessings of the region. Everything highlighted the quality of the ingredients and was absolutely delicious. Another highlight was that their apple cider is house-made. It was refreshing and easy to drink, and paired perfectly with the food. I liked it so much that I bought some as a souvenir, and even at home I could continue enjoying memories of my trip.

Wonderful
A world apart from what you’d expect in Asama Onsen—walls of bookshelves throughout the building, private Rooms you can use freely among them, complimentary drinks, and relaxing spaces. The staff were courteous and kind. From check-in and guidance around the property to the front desk, kitchen, and meal service, everyone was cheerful and made us feel at ease. We had a personal issue before arriving, but communication among the staff was excellent, and everything—from adjusting meal service to all guidance—was handled with great care. Soaking slowly in the bath on our Room balcony was wonderful. And stepping outside to enjoy the view from the guest-only bath hut made it even better. After bathing, we enjoyed complimentary ice cream and delicious baked treats, then savored craft beer and house-made cider at the bar by the front desk. The cuisine is creative dishes made with local ingredients—you can enjoy the aroma of charcoal-grilled meat and watch it being plated right in front of you. Just a few minutes’ walk from the Hotel are a bakery as well as shops and cafés. One night wasn’t nearly enough—we would love to return.

This was our first o...
This was our first one-night stay at Matsumoto Juttcho. We checked in at “Oyaki and Coffee,” a renovated traditional house where the earthen walls preserve elements such as bamboo lathwork and parts of the rough base coat. For us, an older couple, it felt wonderfully nostalgic, and we relaxed there for a while. We then took our first-ever tuk-tuk ride to the Hotel—and they even took photos for us. On the walking tour, we were guided through the bath hut, the hot spring source, the history of Asama Onsen, and the distinctive features of various shops and Ryokan in the area. With great weather on our side, it was a delightful stroll. We stayed at “Koyanagi.” Our Room was spacious and very comfortable: a Japanese-style atmosphere with Ryukyu tatami mats and shoji screens, complemented by a large bed and modern chairs. There was also a small hideaway-like reading nook. In the second room, there were plenty of drinks provided—snacks and delicious coffee among them—and we were happy to find a handwritten message card as well. The open-air Onsen bath in our Room was slightly lukewarm, but being able to soak freely without worrying about anyone else—surrounded by the scent of hinoki cypress—was wonderfully refreshing. The semi-open-air bath hut in the courtyard called “Koyanagi no Yu” had just the right temperature and felt even more invigorating. My husband especially loved it; he apparently enjoyed soaking three times between dawn and breakfast. Dinner was at 367 Dining inside “Matsumoto Honbako.” Dining surrounded by countless books about food while listening to flames crackle from a wood fire made it feel all the more luxurious. We thoroughly enjoyed dishes made with abundant fresh local ingredients as well as their special cider. Seeing everyone on staff smiling—and their thoughtful yet unobtrusive care in so many moments—made our stay truly pleasant; it became its own kind of heartfelt “feast.” The only disappointment was that we didn’t have enough time to read. Next time, I’d like to stay at Matsumoto Juttcho again and spend unhurried time enjoying books.

Relax as you discover the unknown
Our family of six stayed for one night: my parents at Koyanagi, and the rest of us at Matsumoto Honbako. After checking in in the early afternoon, we went cherry-blossom viewing in central Matsumoto before returning to the Accommodation. The meals and baths were, needless to say, outstanding, but two other things left a particularly strong impression. ・ ・ [1] “Asama Onsen Backstreet Bath-Hopping Tour” We joined a tour starting at 4:00 p.m. for about 30 minutes. While learning about the history of Asama Onsen, we were able to experience not only the Onsen currently being drawn (No. 1 source), but also touch water from No. 2 source, which contains sulfur. Thanks to the detailed explanations about the area on site, even though it was just a one-night stay, the experience felt broader and more meaningful—like it became something more than just a single point on our trip. ・ ・ [2] My first book-themed Hotel I rarely make time to sit down with books these days, but once I was drawn in I could truly relax—and still felt like there wasn’t enough time! Deep inside the bookstore “Matsumoto Honbako,” what used to be a large public bath has been transformed through an impressive renovation and still feels like the centerpiece of the space. Surrounded by calm lighting and quiet music, sipping brandy while browsing the shelves felt far more luxurious than I imagined. Even just looking at book titles and covers made time fly by. ・ The private open-air bath in our Room—something I had been looking forward to—kept getting pushed back because spending time with books in that space was so fulfilling that it made me want to come back for a Multiple Night Stay someday. The cherry blossoms at Matsumoto Castle were at their peak and truly beautiful, but I’d love to visit again in another season as well.

It exceeded my expectations!
What a wonderful library. I was filled with excitement, as if exploring a carefully curated collection of books. The meals were also excellent, and I was able to spend meaningful time chatting with my daughter. Thank you for an experience that truly made staying here worthwhile.

Satisfied.
From check-in to check-out, I had a very comfortable stay. Especially at the restaurant, the carefully prepared dishes and attentive service left me feeling satisfied in both body and mind. The staff’s hospitality was excellent, and spending a holiday in the extraordinary setting of this book Hotel was even more satisfying than I had expected. I also enjoyed the atmosphere of the Asama Onsen area. One night wasn’t enough time, so I would love to visit again.

We stayed here as a family of nine!
We decided to take a trip together while our grandparents are still healthy, and chose to stay at Matsumoto Jujo, which we had been curious about for a while. Check-in is at the “O-yaki and Coffee” café, which is a little away from the Hotel, but there’s even a tuk-tuk running between the café and the Hotel, making the Shuttle Service time part of the fun. Since we were traveling with my 4-year-old cousin and my grandmother who has difficulty walking, we stayed in Koyanagi, which offers Rooms where small children can be comfortable as well as barrier-free Rooms. The Room had a calm, warm atmosphere and was wonderful. The Hotel as a whole felt like a Facility everyone in our family could enjoy—my little cousin played in the ball pit, and my grandfather who loves books fully enjoyed the bookstore and even bought some. We had dinner at Alps Table, and everything was truly delicious—especially the dessert. I was surprised that my grandmother, who usually doesn’t eat much, finished almost everything. The restaurant also has an area where children can play, so it was great that my cousin could have fun even after getting tired of sitting through the meal. At every moment—check-in, Shuttle Service, dinner, breakfast, check-out—we felt the staff’s thoughtfulness. It became a truly wonderful memory for us all.

This Hotel was a dream for book and alcohol lovers! Dinner was absolutely delicious (including their original cider!), and I was happy to have a vegetable-rich breakfast. I also fully enjoyed the bookstore, the open-air bath, and the bar. The staff’s warm hospitality with just the right amount of attentiveness was wonderful. I would definitely love to stay again. Thank you very much.

It was a wonderful space surrounded by books, with warm and attentive hospitality.
[What We Liked] - We were welcomed at check-in with complimentary oyaki and drinks, which made for a relaxing start. The staff’s explanation of the facilities was very thorough, which made us feel at ease. - The book corner offered a wide range of genres, and it was an exciting space even just browsing the covers. - There was a great selection of non-alcoholic juices, so we could fully enjoy our stay even without drinking alcohol. [What Could Be Improved] - This may have been affected by the outdoor temperature, but the hot water felt quite lukewarm. We hope the temperature control will be improved during winter.

This was my first time staying in a renovated traditional Japanese house in Japan, and it was truly a wonderful experience. The atmosphere of the building was very charming, and I was able to spend a relaxing time. The Facility offerings were also excellent, with a wide variety of drinks and meal services, and I was genuinely satisfied. I could feel the thoughtful hospitality, which made me very happy. I would definitely like to visit again. The only slightly disappointing point was that the Onsen temperature felt a bit low. However, overall it was truly a fantastic stay.

Satisfied
Although the Koyanagi Room is designed in a way that can be affected by the weather, overall it was a very satisfying stay. The soba dipping sauce and walnut sauce were delicious, but I would have liked to have the standard soba dipping sauce as well. I also wish there had been samue loungewear. Regarding my fresh fruit allergy, it was disappointing that fresh fruit was served as usual, as if it had been forgotten.

We stayed with our 1-year-old child. Our child had fallen asleep when we arrived, and the staff kindly handled check-in flexibly and guided us straight to the tuk-tuk without waking them, which was a big help. During meals, our child was shy at first, but the staff responded with warm smiles, which made us very happy as parents. We look forward to visiting again.

For book lovers, this is a wonderful place where you can read anytime during your stay. When I mentioned that we were visiting for my mother’s birthday, you wrote a message on the dessert plate, and she was truly delighted—thank you very much. However, when we arrived at the check-in café and told you our name, there was no response or greeting. Also, since we had a Multiple Night Stay, communication about housekeeping was not handled smoothly, which was disappointing. Even my child said during our stay that the check-in experience was disappointing. I did a lot of research about the hotel before visiting, but I was surprised to see in the Room guide: “This is not a fully serviced luxury Ryokan.” I think your efforts toward regional revitalization and eco-friendly initiatives are wonderful. However, they may also make some guests feel pressured or uncomfortable.

High-quality modern renovation
We stayed here for a relaxing getaway as a couple. For book-loving couples like us, the spacious bookstore felt like heaven, and we ended up buying several books we picked up. The building has a contemporary feel, with a renovation that clearly distinguishes between areas that have been carefully refined and those intentionally left untouched—making it very comfortable for well-traveled guests like us. The interior is also modern and simple in a great way. The Onsen was slightly on the lukewarm side, so we could soak for a long time while enjoying the view. The day we stayed was beautifully clear, and the snow-capped mountains stretching out before us were absolutely breathtaking. The meals were thoughtfully prepared using mainly local ingredients, and we could sense genuine care in every single dish without any shortcuts. Overall, we had a truly wonderful time and were completely satisfied. If I had to mention one thing, because there is so much attention to detail throughout, it can feel like there’s quite a lot of information to take in. We found ourselves admiring one impressive feature after another—so much so that it almost felt a bit tiring from all the input by the end. One more point: since all of the staff are quite young, the atmosphere feels lively; however, with very few older staff members around, as a couple in our 50s we also felt slightly out of place at times. That may simply come down to personal preference, but overall this is an Accommodation I can confidently recommend to many people.

A place to relax and unwind
From start to finish, this place felt truly luxurious. The staff were polite and attentive, always ready to assist when needed. The Room was spacious with a dedicated reading area, perfect for getting lost in a book. The private open-air bath attached to the Room was absolutely amazing! With stunning views of the Alps and perfectly adjusted water temperature, it provided a wonderfully relaxing experience. While there were many positives, there were also some drawbacks. One issue was that the bookshelf area and restaurant space on the first floor felt chilly. Although blankets were provided, they weren’t enough for my friend who is sensitive to cold. Both dinner and breakfast seating near the front desk also felt uncomfortably cold. As for meals, I found them somewhat disjointed in concept; each dish seemed unrelated to the next. While I could sense an effort to highlight natural flavors of ingredients, it didn’t quite resonate with me. Overall though, this place has so much potential that these two points stood out as disappointing. I’d love to return when I’m older and appreciate it even more!

A lovely Hotel for a relaxing stay
A family trip with my daughter and son. I chose this accommodation because I wanted to visit Zenkoji Temple. Although it is a bit far from the temple, I decided to stay here as my daughter, who works at a publishing company, could join us. The meals were very delicious and left nothing to be desired. However, during breakfast, although there were no other guests sharing the table, we were seated at a large table which felt slightly uncomfortable. My daughter has expressed her desire to visit again, so I hope we can return in the future.
