I contacted the Accommodation in advance about my allergies and was told, “We won’t use any dashi at all.” However, dashi was clearly included in both dinner and breakfast, which was very surprising. I don’t like leaving food uneaten, so it was disappointing despite having explained this beforehand.

Pros and Cons
Pros - The large windows were wonderful, and I was moved by the dazzling green summer trees outside. - The Room was spacious enough, and the in-room bath was also large—both were excellent. I was also happy that plenty of complimentary bottled water was provided. - Many of the staff were foreign nationals, but everyone worked hard and spoke Japanese well, which made me want to cheer them on. Areas for improvement - The hallway leading to the guest rooms had an unpleasant odor (for some reason it smelled like chicken manure). - The provided yukata sandals in the Room were difficult to walk in, and they made a loud slapping noise when walking, which felt embarrassing. - Both breakfast and dinner were nicely presented, but nothing stood out as particularly delicious (my family who traveled with me felt the same). There also weren’t many Hokkaido-specific ingredients, which was a bit disappointing. Breakfast is Japanese-style only, so for international guests or those who prefer Western food, it might be better to offer at least croissants or sausages. - I was surprised to see a foreign guest using a smartphone in the open-air bath area, so I asked them not to bring it in. A sign on the entrance door said “NO PHOTOGRAPHS,” but this could be interpreted as “it’s okay to bring a phone as long as you don’t take photos.” It may be better to clearly state “NO SMARTPHONES.”

Unfriendly Hotel
This is just my personal impression, but overall I felt the service was not very welcoming. The biggest issue was customer service. I arrived a little after 4:30 p.m., but even when I pulled up to the front by car, no one was there. No one told me where to park unless I went to the front desk to ask. There was no guidance to my Room either. At dinner, I ordered a bottle of wine and asked to take what was left back to my Room, but instead of bringing it up for me, they simply handed me the bottle and glasses at the dining area. Since there is only one elevator, it’s a very long walk to Rooms at either end; mine was at the far end, so I had to carry everything myself. The large public bath does not switch between men and women for night and morning. Dinner came without any explanation of each dish—items were just brought out. For breakfast, I had requested a private room but was shown to the restaurant floor instead. Thinking it wouldn’t be long, I ate there as-is; however, at checkout they still charged me for the private room fee. There wasn’t any particular send-off either. Overall it felt like there were far too few staff—service more like a Business Hotel level. For this price range, it seemed expensive. Since this was Jozankei, I feel I should have paid more and stayed at a long-established inn instead. Disappointing.

I loved that it’s close to the bus stop yet set in a quiet, secluded environment. The atmosphere inside the Hotel was also calm, and both the bath and the meal (thick-cut roast beef) were excellent. I would definitely recommend this Hotel to anyone visiting Jozankei.

Baby-friendly
We stayed for one night with four adults and a 7-month-old baby. We really appreciated the thoughtful touches, such as the baby crib and various children’s amenities. The large public bath was spacious and relaxing, and the view from the open-air bath was soothing; in particular, the half-body soaking area was so comfortable we could have stayed in it forever. The meals were also satisfying, with a nice mix of Japanese, Western, and Chinese dishes. We would love to stay again.

The Start of Your Journey
We stayed here the night before our trip, booking at short notice for the following day. I have liked this Hotel since it was the former Zuien, and it has now been rebuilt into a luxurious Hotel; the mural that used to be displayed at the old Zuien has also been preserved behind the front desk. The temperature control of the in-room open-air bath was excellent, and the large public bath was spacious and never crowded, so we could use it comfortably. Considering the Accommodation Fee, we were very satisfied with both dinner and breakfast; however, as others have mentioned, the main beef dish was quite fatty and heavy, so I would appreciate any improvements you can make. Since Hamano Hotel Group Accommodations can be chosen to suit different travel purposes, we will use them again. Thank you for accommodating my husband’s food allergies despite our last-minute Reservation.

The meals are delicious.
This is my second visit this year. The meals keep getting better and better. The sorbet palate cleanser time is also delicious and a lovely touch. Inside the building, the high ceilings create a spacious, luxurious feel, and because high-quality photocatalyst technology is used, the ventilation feels fresh and pleasant. Statistics say that people in Hokkaido travel within Hokkaido nearly three times a year. I’m one of them—probably five or six trips a year. Among them, only two Facilities call to Check Reservation, and this Facility has been calling about 10 days in advance as well... If this is your policy, a heartfelt call like: “Thank you for your Reservation. We’re calling to confirm the details. Please travel safely on the day—we look forward to welcoming you.” would make guests feel happy too, so I hope you’ll consider it. I was disappointed that the steam sauna I was looking forward to was closed again this time, but if it was due to equipment adjustments, it can’t be helped... I’m looking forward to next time!

A bit disappointing.
We stayed here before and had a wonderful experience, so we returned with three generations of our family. As this trip also included a birthday celebration for my mother, we had requested a message card, but it seemed to have been forgotten, which was disappointing.

About Meals
Dinner’s main dish was roast beef, but I would have liked a fish option as well, considering elderly guests. Also, the course differed from what I expected; I was hoping for a traditional Japanese meal. Breakfast is served in time slots, but the buffet area is tucked away at the back, and it became inconvenient when many guests arrived at once. I felt the dinner and breakfast venues need improvement. It felt less like an open kitchen and more like being shown the back-of-house area. The Accommodation, Onsen, and spa were excellent, so this was a bit disappointing.

It was a wonderful Hotel.
The Room isn’t very large, but it felt spacious and relaxing (I think the layout is very well designed). The large windows fully showcased the mountain scenery—it was wonderful. We also enjoyed the view from the restaurant. The in-room Onsen was continuously flowing, at just the right temperature, so we could bathe immediately after arrival. The tub was also spacious enough for two adults to soak comfortably. The cuisine is a mix of Japanese, Chinese, and Western styles, but it was well balanced. The seasoning—especially the salt balance—was excellent and everything was delicious. However, there was one disappointing point. There were three of us, and right after the palate-cleansing sorbet, two went to the restroom. Immediately after that, the roast beef cart arrived. The one person left at the table hadn’t asked how much the other two wanted (it was our first stay for all three of us), and in particular those two were really looking forward to it—so we asked if you could wait 1–2 minutes since they had just stepped away to use the restroom. We were told that wasn’t possible. With no choice, we had you slice “regular” portions for them even though they weren’t there. I understand you may have been busy, but with two out of three guests absent—and with restrooms located inside the restaurant—it would have only taken 1–2 minutes to wait, so it left us feeling disappointed. In general, I don’t think it’s normal for a restaurant to serve a dish where portion preferences must be confirmed while those guests are not present. If timing was tight, you could have served another table first and come back to ours afterward by adjusting the order. I was quite surprised by such a rigid response. Everything else was excellent overall, so I sincerely hope you will reconsider this. One more thing: most of your restaurant staff are foreign nationals—which is absolutely not an issue—but there was someone whose Japanese pronunciation made it extremely difficult to understand what they were saying no matter how many times we asked. These days it’s not unusual for hotels to have many international staff members (and usually their Japanese is impressive), but this was my first time encountering service where Japanese communication was this hard to follow. I hope management can provide additional guidance and support. Other than these points, everything met our expectations; that’s why I’m writing this feedback—it would be a shame otherwise. We would like to return again.

It was a wonderful Hotel where we could relax and enjoy delicious meals.
The Facility was clean, and since there weren’t many families, it had a calm atmosphere, so we were able to relax and take our time. Above all, the food was delicious, and we were very satisfied with both dinner and breakfast. We also went to Sapporo Kokusai Ski Resort nearby; it was easy to get there in about 30 minutes by bus, and we had a great time. If I had to mention something, it would be nice if the Shuttle Service bus times were more flexible or if there were a bus service to the airport. Also, even if it cost a bit more, I think an all-inclusive plan would make it easier to enjoy spending time at the Hotel.

The day after the Snow Festival
It was wonderful. The atmosphere was calm, and the view and the Room were excellent. The Onsen in the Room warmed us up so well. The meals were delicious, but perhaps because of our age, they felt a bit too fatty—so it would have been nice to be able to choose a lean steak. We would love to stay again.

It might be good for foreigners.
This Hotel was disappointing in many ways, except for the views and the Onsen. First, when I noted at the time of Reservation that I do not like wasabi and mustard, I received an email saying, “We cannot accommodate likes and dislikes,” which really surprised me. I could understand that for a buffet, but it felt strange to be told that for a set-course meal. When I arrived, most of the staff were foreigners, so I wondered if the email had been replied to by someone who is not Japanese. (In fact, a Japanese staff member did remove the wasabi during the meal.) The meals also felt below average for the price—rather than showcasing fresh Hokkaido ingredients, it seemed like a menu aimed at foreign guests. Nothing stood out as especially delicious. Breakfast in particular was very poor, and I left most of it. The meal explanations were often hard to understand due to broken Japanese. The tea bags in the Room were not good either. It was also disappointing to find a long strand of hair on the floor in the Room that was clearly not my hair color. There were many foreign guests staying as well, and I understand there may be staffing shortages, so having foreign staff itself is not an issue. However, for a Hotel in this price range, I would like both service and food quality to be at a level that Japanese guests can also be satisfied with. I cannot recommend it to anyone who values food. I will not return.

There was an accident, but we are very satisfied.
The meals were delicious, but there was a piece of paper in the dessert. As an apology, the manager offered complimentary fruit. Separately from that incident, the open-air bath was enjoyable, and overall I was satisfied with my stay.

For celebrating my sister's birthday...
I decided to invite my sister, who lives in Tokyo, to an Onsen as a birthday gift and chose to visit Jozankei Onsen after a long time. Among the many hotels, I was unsure which one to pick, but I chose this hotel with its new Facility and a Plan that included an esthetic treatment—and it was the perfect choice. The Room was well-designed and clean, and the private Onsen in the Room had just the right temperature—not too hot or too cold—so we could soak for as long as we wanted. The large public bath was also spacious with clean washing areas and dressing rooms, plus Dyson hair dryers were provided. The meals were delicious, and I had pre-ordered a dessert plate for my sister's birthday; they even made it possible for us to take it back to our Room, which was very thoughtful. For the esthetic treatment, I chose an oil massage—it truly helped relieve my daily fatigue; thank you so much! The shop offered a wide variety of products including items from Chocolatier Masale. The soft serve ice cream after bathing was such a delightful treat! Our Room also came equipped with Balmuda appliances like a kettle and speaker, making our stay even more enjoyable—I wished we could have stayed longer than one night! Next time, I'd love to visit during another season when we can enjoy different views like fresh greenery or autumn leaves through the large windows. All of the staff were incredibly kind and welcoming with their smiles—it made our stay absolutely satisfying. Thank you so much!

Somehow incomplete.
This was my first time staying here. Although the room did not have a private bath, I chose this accommodation expecting it to match its price, but I felt it might not be worth the cost. The meals were fairly tasty, but the dining atmosphere was casual, and with self-service soft drinks, I thought a buffet-style setup might have been more enjoyable. The menu also felt somewhat lacking. The J-pop background music made the ambiance feel cheap as well. Recently, many hotels in a similar price range offer free lounges, so that aspect also felt insufficient. During check-in, some guests were guided to sofas while others had to line up, which seemed inconsistent and puzzling. On the positive side, the room was clean and spacious; the public bath wasn’t crowded and allowed for a relaxing experience. Most notably, I appreciated that the free shuttle service departed later than other hotels’, allowing for a leisurely morning. All staff members provided excellent service—thank you very much!

Overall, I was satisfied.
The gorgeous, spacious lobby still feels brand-new and always lifts my spirits. I also love the clean panoramic open-air Onsen bath with fresh hot-spring water, and the mist sauna is another favorite—I was able to relax comfortably and take my time. However, this time, even though I had already paid for the 12:00 late check-out, I received a call to my Room saying, “It’s past 11:00, so please check out...” Even after I explained, they didn’t seem to understand. I would like them to confirm more reliably. There was also no greeting when checking out, which was a little disappointing. If the smoking Room had an air purifier like other properties usually provide, I think odors wouldn’t cling to your clothes or body. The meals are delicious, there’s a café as well, and the library space is exceptional. Everything is well provided for—loungewear and more—so it’s great value for money. As a local resident, I also appreciate early check-in, and it’s nice that I can occasionally use the body-scrub spa. Overall, I’m always satisfied.

An innovative Onsen Hotel for a comfortable stay
Enjoy panoramic seasonal views from the entrance, the open-air Onsen, and many other spots throughout the property. This was my third stay, and I was able to relax quietly in the charming library as well. It’s also nice that there is a café. The meals are well put together, with Japanese, Western, and Chinese options—perfect. As locals, we really appreciate the earlier check-in time; this has become our favorite Accommodation in Jozankei. However, during the October long weekend it was still too early for peak autumn colors, yet the rates were 60% higher than on weekdays—hard to justify. The meals are cohesive overall; I think it would have been nicer if the complimentary toast cocktail were served in a small cocktail glass. Still, being able to enjoy Japanese, Western, and Chinese cuisine was delicious and perfect. As locals, we’re grateful for the earlier check-in time. That said, during the October long weekend it was far too early for peak foliage season, and again—the 60% weekday surcharge is difficult to accept. I would also be happier if the front desk staff provided a warmer welcome. In other sections of the property, however, hospitality was excellent and very pleasant. We’ll be visiting again this month as well—I’m looking forward to enjoying your fresh and clean Onsen waters, mist sauna, and meals.

Open-air bath with a view of snow-covered scenery
The snow that fell a few days ago covered the mountains, creating a magical view from the open-air bath. The shampoo provided was my favorite, Predia, with a gentle and pleasant fragrance that lingered. Amenities such as lotion were from Sekkisei. Many of the staff members were from overseas, but they were very friendly and fluent in Japanese, English, and Chinese, making it feel like being in another country. The roast beef served at dinner was incredibly delicious, and the carving performance added an extra touch of luxury to the experience. It was an accommodation where everything exceeded expectations. I would love to visit again!

I had a relaxing time.
We used this for a friend's 70th birthday celebration. There was a free Shuttle Service, and the Room's private bath was a highlight. The food wasn't particularly impressive, but considering the price, it might be good value for money. Since it's close to Sapporo, we would like to use it again.

The roast beef is delicious.
I decided to stay at Jozankei Onsen since I usually just pass by. The parking lot is spacious and indoors, which is a great point! I chose a room with an onsen, but it was disappointing that the windows could only open slightly. It would be nice if the windows could open more, especially for indoor baths. As others have mentioned, the apartment building in front of the view is a bit distracting. The meals were served as courses, and the roast beef was exceptionally delicious—having it carved right in front of you was a nice touch. However, even though I opted for a larger portion, it still felt insufficient. It would be great if thicker slices or additional servings were available for an extra charge. A half-buffet option with fewer dishes might also be appealing. Breakfast was also delicious. The service was excellent, and I’d love to stay here again!

It was comfortable at the new Hotel.
This was my first stay, and I was upgraded to a better room. Since the hotel is still new, the facility was clean, and both the meals and baths were excellent. The large public bath and the private bath in the room were very comfortable. Breakfast was particularly satisfying, with grilled fish and other rice accompaniments provided alongside a buffet of salads, side dishes, and desserts—all of which were delicious. The large public bath included a dry sauna, mist sauna, and an open-air bath with a low-temperature reclining bath where you could relax for as long as you like. Although it’s a short walk from Jozankei Onsen town (the bus stop is right in front), the room was comfortable enough that there wasn’t much need to go out. The library also had interesting books on topics like food and travel. Next time, I’d love to check in earlier to enjoy an even longer stay!

I felt relaxed.
The Hotel is conveniently located, the staff were attentive, and the Room was clean. Both the Room's bath and the large public bath had a smooth water quality, and I enjoyed them multiple times. The meals were carefully prepared with gentle flavors, which I found delightful. I would like to stay here again if I have another opportunity.

My parents were very pleased.
The dinner course was something my parents in their 80s had never tried before, and they were amazed and delighted! The taste was, of course, delicious, and the roast beef pairing was very elaborate—it disappeared in no time! The celebratory dessert plate we ordered in advance was also incredibly delicious piece by piece, which made us very happy. It was helpful that you arranged it so we could take it to our Room. We appreciated the thoughtfulness since a whole cake would have been too much for us to finish. Having a private bath available anytime in the Room at this price is quite rare. This once-in-a-lifetime family trip became an unforgettable memory for us—thank you so much. We are also grateful to the staff who worked hard with warm smiles throughout our stay.

Ultimate Relaxation
Amazing view from the large windows, a beautiful and relaxing space even inside the Room. The private bath in the Room is a bliss you can enjoy anytime. The public bath was so wonderful that I wanted to stay there forever, feeling the breeze. The meals were delicious, both dinner and breakfast. The massage was also excellent. Thank you very much!

Cost-effective and service-oriented Hotel
It was my first time staying at this Hotel in Jozankei Onsen after a long time, and it lived up to its excellent Review ratings. The onsen-attached Room with a great view had a very comfortable bed, allowing me to enjoy a restful sleep after quite some time. While many tourist Hotels nowadays offer buffets, the dinner here featured Japanese, Western, and Chinese course meals. The highlight was the roast beef prepared right in front of us—a truly wonderful service. The Japanese-style breakfast set was also delicious. The body scrub & massage I received at the large public bath were skillfully done and left me feeling refreshed. I would love to visit again during the beautiful autumn foliage season!

A large Onsen Hotel that is overall average.
It was the first time I stayed at an Onsen Hotel where there were no staff near the entrance during check-in hours. Perhaps because of this, there were cobwebs on the founder's statue nearby, which did not leave a very good impression. However, moving on, the room was very clean. Although the in-room bath's water quality was inferior compared to another accommodation from the same group that I stayed at previously, it still provided relaxation. The meals were thoughtfully prepared with consideration for specific ingredients, which I greatly appreciated.
