    An exceptionally good Hotel

    We stayed here on a family trip. The Room was spacious, the food was delicious, and the staff were kind, making our stay truly comfortable. We especially appreciated the underfloor heating in the changing area of the bath.

    Compared to other Fufu properties, it felt slightly underwhelming.

    This was our first stay at Fufu Kyoto in two weeks, following Fufu Hakone. Since Hakone was so outstanding, please take this as a slightly more discerning review. First, the Room: we were shown to a basement-level Room, and it felt a bit dark overall. The bath was clean and the hinoki scent was wonderful, but there was a step where you rest your back, which pressed against me and became slightly painful when leaning back to relax. Also, even when it got hot, the bathroom window could not be opened due to modifications, which made it feel a little stuffy. In addition, my wife had no chair at the sink area when drying her hair with the hair dryer, so she had to do it standing. On top of that, there was only a small handheld mirror rather than a proper mirror, which made applying makeup inconvenient. The loungewear provided did not include pants. At other Fufu properties pants were provided as well, so we did not bring any and I ended up wearing jeans the whole time. Only an L-size men’s yukata was prepared in the Room; given my build (185 cm), I would have appreciated more consideration—such as promptly offering an LL size. As for dining, our assigned table was directly under an exhaust fan. Something hot also seemed to be kept warm beneath it (I’m not sure what), and between the fan noise and the heat it was hard to enjoy our meal. I appreciated that they moved us to a private room after we mentioned it, but I wished we had been seated in one from the start. I have always had only positive impressions of Fufu until now, so this stay in Kyoto was disappointing. These all seem like issues that can be improved upon, so I hope next time we stay we will be able to give 5 stars.

    Hmm,

    Maybe it’s because I compared it to Nara, but it didn’t feel that impressive. The in-Room bath was nice, but it got hot while soaking, so I think I could have relaxed more if there had been a window to let in some fresh air. Since there wasn’t one, I still felt a bit short of breath even after getting out. The meals also weren’t that great compared to Nara. It was a little disappointing.

    A Holiday in the Ancient Capital

    This was my first stay in two and a half years. I wanted to relax in Kyoto—my favorite city—so I chose this Accommodation again after some time away, hoping to enjoy the Onsen on my day off. At Fufu, every Accommodation is truly outstanding in terms of service, cuisine, and the Room, so I always feel comfortable staying here. Thank you again for taking such great care of me on this visit.

    The room was very user-friendly and much more spacious than the impression given by the photos in the plan introduction. The onsen bath attached to the room was also generously sized, allowing for a relaxing soak. The strong water pressure of the shower was another high point. When it comes to onsen ryokan in urban areas, I have stayed at an accommodation with "sky" in its name near Shijo Kawaramachi before, but I found that the baths and wet areas here at Fufu were more spacious and comfortable. If I wanted to visit a nearby onsen ryokan again, I think I would choose this place. --- To the accommodation staff: During breakfast, it took quite a long time for your signature soup dish to warm up on the stove. I assumed it had been preheated and that the stove was just for keeping it warm, but when I took a sip, it was cold, which surprised me. There were no instructions like "Please wait about ○ minutes before enjoying," so by the time it started bubbling slightly, most of my side dishes were already gone. I also overheard some issues with stoves not working properly at neighboring tables. On such a chilly morning, not being able to enjoy hot soup as intended was disappointing. Perhaps you could reconsider how it's served? Additionally, there seemed to be an issue with our room's doorbell—it didn’t make any sound when pressed by our massage therapist upon arrival—so you might want to look into fixing that. As for the shiatsu massage therapist: their technique was extremely forceful... Despite repeatedly requesting gentler pressure while explaining my reasons and physical condition each time, they continued with nearly identical intensity throughout.     The meals were absolutely delicious and satisfying, but the Room had only one sink, the dressing area was small, and we couldn't adjust the bath temperature ourselves, which was inconvenient. Additionally, during breakfast, we were surprised when our dishes were cleared away while we were still eating. Normally, it would be appropriate to ask if we are finished first. My friend clearly stated that they would not visit again. However, all the meals were truly enjoyable, which made these issues even more disappointing.

    Highly Satisfied

    In December, I stayed in Nara, and while the Room there was more spacious, the cuisine in Kyoto was definitely better. The staff were kind, and I was able to relax until just before check-out. Thank you very much.

    The toilet lid was broken and could not open or close automatically. When I called the front desk, I was told to turn it off using the remote control settings. It was a bit inconvenient. At dinner, I was surprised to find a cushion prepared on the backrest of my chair. When I asked the staff, they said it was because I had used a cushion during my previous visit. This time, they provided an even larger cushion, which made dining more comfortable for me. My backbones used to hurt from pressing against the backrest, so this thoughtful gesture made me very happy. The food was delicious, and every dish that came one after another exceeded my expectations as I enjoyed them all thoroughly. When a hotel's food is this good, it makes me want to stay there again!

    For your first stay

    I have stayed at other accommodations by Fufu before, but this was my first time staying at Fufu in Kyoto. Even with the same room type, there are differences in size and, of course, interior design depending on the accommodation. I was aware beforehand that rooms in Kyoto tend to be smaller compared to those in other prefectures, likely due to the nature of the area. However, the service provided by the staff was excellent, and the room was quiet and comfortable. This time, I opted for a plan with breakfast only as I had been invited to dinner at a friend's house. The breakfast was very delicious, so next time I would like to choose a plan that includes dinner as well. Thank you very much for your hospitality!

    It was a wonderful Ryokan.

    We stayed here for his birthday trip. The accommodation was very clean, with a calming scent of incense throughout. The room was very comfortable, the onsen was especially relaxing, and it was convenient to add amenities via the tablet provided. What impressed us the most was the food. Dinner featured beautifully presented and delicious dishes, each one a masterpiece. Breakfast, served in a traditional Japanese multi-tiered box, exceeded all expectations as well. There were two disappointing points: first, there were remnants of tape from a lint roller left on the bedroom floor; second, during checkout, when ink from an employee's pen got on my hand, they simply commented that "this pen hasn’t been working well lately" without offering anything to wipe it off with—this left an impression. However, I had always wanted to stay here myself and thoroughly enjoyed this 1-night stay. I would love to try other accommodations by Fufu in the future as well!

    "Fufu" is simply wonderful!

    Thank you for accommodating our meal requests in advance, allowing my pregnant wife to enjoy her meals with peace of mind. Your attention to detail is impeccable. It would be great if the freezer had better performance so we could store ice cream. This time, we stayed in the accommodation without going out, but having a free lounge would make it even better. We only had breakfast this time and skipped dinner, but as expected, the meals at "Fufu" are delicious! The taste never disappoints! We have stayed at other "Fufu" accommodations before and were satisfied here as well!

    It was a delightful accommodation.

    During our three-night trip to Kyoto, we stayed one night at Fufu. The meals were delicious, especially the white miso soup at breakfast, which was a unique taste for me. I even bought white miso as a souvenir. The breakfast allowed us to fully enjoy traditional Kyoto-style dishes, and we were very satisfied. When we requested a seat with a garden view for breakfast, the staff kindly accommodated our request. The Room was compact yet functional. However, the bathtub was slightly low, making it difficult to soak up to the neck comfortably. Overall, it was a great experience that made us want to visit other Fufu locations as well.

    A Memorable Birthday Trip

    We had the pleasure of staying at your accommodation for a birthday trip. I had been wanting to stay here for a long time, but while searching for accommodations, I came across some slightly negative reviews, which left me feeling a bit uncertain when making the reservation. However, from the moment I spoke with your staff on the phone, I was impressed by their wonderful service. (Even when listening to the voicemail, I felt reassured by the tone of voice and manner of speaking.) On the day of our stay, everything from the room and meals to customer service was exceptional, allowing us to enjoy a very pleasant experience. While we have stayed at other accommodations within this price range or in similar chains before, Fufu Kyoto left us with an impression of being more refined and sophisticated. All staff members we encountered were incredibly kind and made our time truly memorable. We also observed how attentively they interacted with international guests as well as families with children—it was heartwarming to see such thoughtful hospitality. The room prepared for us that day was impeccably clean down to every corner. Thank you so much for providing such a wonderful birthday trip experience this time around! This is definitely an accommodation where one would want to spend anniversaries or special occasions.

    This was my first stay at Fufu Kyoto. I decided to visit Kyoto on short notice and was looking for accommodation when I found that Fufu Kyoto had one room available, so I made an immediate reservation. The room was neither particularly good nor bad, but as mentioned in the reviews, there was only one option for amenities, which was a bit disappointing. That said, considering how reasonably priced the room was, it couldn't be helped (amenities are quite an important point for me). The staff were very polite. The room had a clean feel to it, and both the bath and meals were absolutely excellent. I think I would like to stay at Fufu again sometime.

    We had a wonderful New Year.

    We stayed as a family of four, including two elderly members, during the special New Year period. 【Room & Facility】 The Luxury Suite we stayed in was spacious with a great view and ranked among the most comfortable accommodations we've experienced at high-end ryokans. Having two toilets made our stay convenient and stress-free even with four people. Additionally, being able to request items like hair irons, electric blankets, and shower chairs for caregiving through a tablet and having them delivered promptly to a contactless pickup point showed thoughtful attention to privacy. 【Bath & Cuisine】 The hinoki bath had perfect water temperature, and opening the large window created an open-air bath-like atmosphere that made it hard not to linger longer than usual. The meals were beautifully crafted; even my mother and uncle, who usually have small appetites, finished everything while praising how delicious it was—a joy for us as a family. 【Service】 At the detached bar, we enjoyed an engaging conversation about unique drinks while spending an enjoyable evening at the counter. Having breakfast served in our room allowed us to relax together as a family in private comfort. The check-in/out process being completed at booths without encountering other guests was another high point for those seeking quiet time like us. Thank you so much to all the staff for your attentive hospitality! We look forward to staying here again when visiting Kyoto!

    Cleaning

    I stayed during the New Year holidays. It was my first time at Fufu Kyoto, so I was looking forward to it. Overall, I think it is a lovely Ryokan. I couldn't make a reservation for dinner, so I only had breakfast this time, but it was very delicious. The complimentary New Year's soba service was also much appreciated. The staff were very considerate in many ways. With hopes for future improvements, I would like to mention some points that concerned me: The cleaning quality was not good. After checking in, when I tried to place my belongings on the bedside table, there was a thin layer of dust accumulated on both side tables as well. I ended up wiping them clean myself (this is the first time I've done cleaning at a Ryokan). There were also small red stains on the pillowcase of the bed, which were replaced upon request. It seemed like cleaning had become routine and lacked proper final checks. I hope this will be improved in the future.

    The staff members are mostly young, but everyone was polite and provided pleasant service. There are also foreign staff members, but it gave the impression that employee training is thorough regardless of nationality. It’s impressive how well-trained the Gen Z staff members are.

    A Grateful One-Night Stay

    Thank you very much for your warm hospitality. Although I made the reservation while worrying about my husband's health, unfortunately, we were unable to enjoy meals or the onsen together. My daughter accompanied me and comforted me in place of my husband. My husband had been looking forward to staying at Fufu Kyoto, but about 20 days ago, he suddenly departed for the afterlife. He smiled peacefully with a satisfied expression in our home bath, saying it felt so good. He passed away without suffering and with a calm demeanor. I spent time with my husband (his ashes), my daughter, and a wonderful room overlooking Kitayama Mountain. You also kindly prepared delicious dishes that were considerate of my dental treatment situation. They were truly delightful. Thank you so much for everything; I am deeply grateful. I look forward to another opportunity in the future!

    The garden view from...

    The garden view from the dining area is stunning, making you forget you're in the middle of Kyoto. You can even watch koi swimming, and it's mesmerizing to look at. The meals are beautifully presented with attention to detail, and each dish brings excitement—truly a signature of Fufu. However, Fufu Kyoto stands out for its exceptional use of ingredients and the exquisite flavor of its dashi. Among all Fufu facilities known for their delicious cuisine, this one is particularly outstanding. The Room and private bath are smaller compared to other Fufu locations but cleverly designed to feel compact yet not cramped. The sofa was incredibly comfortable as well. Although I didn’t go sightseeing since I’ve lived in Kyoto for many years, it’s conveniently located for those who wish to explore the city. I would love to visit again!

    It was relaxing.

    I left my luggage at the hotel front desk in advance, took a stroll around the neighboring Murin-an, and then checked in. Although it was past 3 PM and crowded with guests, I was able to smoothly enter my room. The Twin Fort room does not offer much of a view, but it has a window for natural light, making it feel warm and not claustrophobic. The charm of this accommodation lies in its bath and meals. The kaiseki cuisine starting with jellied snow crab is delicate and allows you to experience the season. The original pairing options by Fufu have expanded to include not only wine but also other alcoholic beverages, as well as non-alcoholic pairings for those who do not drink alcohol—an interesting addition. However, one concern during this stay was the iron kettle provided for tea upon entering the room. When I poured water into it, brown water came out—likely due to rust inside the kettle. Managing iron kettles can be challenging; perhaps an electric kettle would suffice instead. Other than that, there were no issues. It was very comfortable overall with a beautiful garden. I would love to visit again during another season. Thank you very much!

    The stay offered a sense of privacy, allowing us to relax and unwind. The meals were seasonal and delicious. However, it was unfortunate that the sound of water from the Onsen bath next to our Room disturbed my husband’s sleep. It would be great if measures could be taken to reduce the noise.

    The atmosphere was very beautiful and charming! The private open-air bath in the room was an Onsen, but the water was too lukewarm, making it feel like I might catch a cold. When I inquired, they mentioned that some guests find 40 degrees hot even in winter. However, for me, it felt almost like a cold bath. They raised the temperature afterward, but even then, it still felt lukewarm for an Onsen. The meals were all delicious and satisfying!

    60th Birthday Celebration: Girls' Trip for Two

    We had the pleasure of staying for the first time as two close friends celebrating a 60th birthday. The fact that the lobby was not visible from outside added an exciting touch, different from ordinary hotels. Although we arrived an hour earlier than the check-in time, we were warmly welcomed and enjoyed a leisurely stroll through the beautiful garden. The welcome drink, a yuzu beverage, was delicious. The room was spacious and very comfortable to relax in. The bath was also large and allowed us to unwind fully. Amenities were well-prepared, providing everything we needed for a luxurious stay. Both dinner and breakfast featured Kyoto specialties that were visually delightful and absolutely delicious. When making our reservation, we mentioned it was a trip to celebrate turning 60 in the notes section; this thoughtful detail led to receiving a chocolate message plate with our dessert at dinner—a gesture that made us incredibly happy! Additionally, they took commemorative photos for us and presented them in a lovely album the next morning—such attentive hospitality truly touched our hearts. We would love to visit again if given another opportunity!

    I want to visit again soon.

    This was our first stay at this accommodation, including the entire chain. Thank you very much. We chose this place because it is near Nanzenji Temple for autumn foliage and has a private onsen in the room (amazing for Kyoto!). Although we were slightly concerned due to mixed reviews, all worries disappeared as soon as we arrived. The room had a pleasant fragrance and clean furniture, which made us feel at ease. We didn’t include meals but used room service instead (note that orders must be placed by 5 PM), and everything was delicious. The hot pot with rich dashi broth was especially outstanding! I hadn’t had great experiences with Kyoto cuisine before, but this accommodation completely changed my perspective. Even the pickles were so good that I overate and felt bloated the next day! My husband also enjoyed himself and felt refreshed; choosing this place turned out to be an excellent decision. Next time, we’d love to try staying in a different floor’s room!

    Operation

    Meals and check-out were attended 10 minutes prior or on time, but there was a wait of over 20 minutes. Loading the car took time, yet we were rushed after being made to wait. Dinner reservations could not be made, so dinner was unavailable. The bar should be recommended and properly managed; staff claimed they didn’t know about certain drinks. There wasn’t a good selection of dark beer or regular beer, and cocktails should be crafted by the bartender’s expertise rather than left uncertain. In this case, it would have been sufficient to enjoy beer in the room instead of visiting the bar. There is still no milk for coffee in the room. Previously there seemed to be fruit juice with 100% content available, but it was disappointing that it wasn’t provided this time as I didn’t bring any expecting it to be available. Toilet paper requested at departure was not delivered. The room and onsen were excellent. The remaining issue lies in staff training and education.
