    A peaceful place to relax

    Fufu Kyoto is located south of Heian Shrine and is conveniently accessible by subway. The corridors are a little dim, but they feel like walking through Kyoto’s narrow lanes, which is somehow very calming. The garden isn’t large, but a cool breeze was blowing through it, making it especially pleasant for this season. As for the meals, seasonal dishes such as pike conger (hamo) were served, and everything was truly delicious. Just one request: both the facilities and the service are excellent, but it seems you employ staff from overseas. I think it would be better if they studied a bit more Japanese—being asked the same questions repeatedly was a little frustrating.

    It was a wonderful Hotel.

    On a rainy day, it was difficult to find the entrance by car, but we truly appreciated the staff’s kind assistance afterward, which raised our expectations for our one-night stay. The meals, bath, and bedding were all excellent. The system of placing used cups and glasses in the small window by the entrance—rather than leaving them on the table—and finding clean dishes prepared by morning was outstanding!! We weren’t used to making tea with an iron kettle, so we couldn’t do it very well. This became one of our favorite places in Kyoto, and it made us want to try all of Fufu’s Hotels.

    The hardware is perfect, but

    The facilities were perfect, exactly as expected. The amenities provided, the meal presentation, and the Room were all complete and comfortable, with nothing lacking. However, because the bath is made of cypress wood, it inevitably gets damaged and stains remain, so visually it was a bit disappointing... When I looked at the window wondering if it could be opened, the sash was covered in grime; my fingers turned pitch-black when I touched it, which felt unpleasant. Even though it’s an Onsen, I didn’t feel like going in multiple times. Very disappointing. As for the meals, the only thing we could genuinely say “This is delicious!” about was the meat—overall it didn’t meet expectations. The person bringing the dishes was a foreign staff member, so I had to concentrate to understand them and it was tiring. For my birthday celebration as well, there was only a small pre-made chocolate plate placed on the dessert. The person who brought breakfast and other staff weren’t rude or unpleasant, but they didn’t make any extra conversation at all—only speaking when spoken to... Overall, everything is well equipped, but something felt missing... That was my impression of this Accommodation.

    I stayed at Fufu Kyo...

    I stayed at Fufu Kyoto two years ago and it was wonderful, so I tried Fufu Nara last year, but I had several disappointments. This time at Fufu Kyoto, my sister and I were reminded again how great it is. They also upgraded our Room, which made our stay very comfortable. The meals at Fufu Kyoto are thoughtfully prepared and truly delicious!

    Comfortable service

    This was one of the Accommodations I had always wanted to stay at, and ever since deciding on a stay at Fufu Kyoto, I had been looking forward to visiting. First, after we arrived at the Hotel, we were warmly welcomed by staff member Y, whose service left a wonderful impression. Whenever they saw us within the Facility, they always addressed us by name—true hospitality. There were many younger staff members as well, and it felt like they genuinely enjoyed their work. We could sense everyone’s commitment to creating a great Hotel, which was truly refreshing. Just like the service, the Facility and the cuisine were also excellent. This has become an Accommodation we would love to return to. Thank you very much.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    The Room was comfortable, the Onsen was wonderful, and the tea provided was delicious. Breakfast was also tasty, but I was a bit concerned that the details confirmed the day before were not communicated, and there were a few oversights such as forgetting to bring tea and the rice container, as well as an issue with processing my credit card payment. The staff were polite, so it may have just been unfortunate timing. I would like to stay again in a different season.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    After a memorial service in Kyoto, I stayed here with my elderly mother. It was our first visit. We received thoughtful consideration in many ways, and everything—from hospitality and service to every other aspect—was impeccable. Being able to enjoy the Onsen in our Room without worrying about others was especially appreciated by my elderly mother, and although we stayed only one night, she was delighted that she could relax as if we had spent much longer here. It meant a lot to me to be able to do something for her.

    Please double-check.

    I noted the foods we need to avoid due to allergies at the time of Reservation, and I also informed you again at the start of dinner that both of us have allergy-related restrictions. However, at breakfast it was still mistakenly understood that only one person had an allergy. I was very disappointed that this information was not shared between the dinner and breakfast staff. For reference, I am a repeat guest.

    We stayed as a couple to celebrate my birthday and our 3rd wedding anniversary. The Room was very clean, and the hinoki bath in the Room was wonderful—we used it many times during our stay. Overall we were satisfied, but we are leaving this Review because the dining experience was very disappointing. As it was a special occasion and the accommodation fee is on the higher side, we had high expectations, but the food tasted average and did not leave any particular impression. The most disappointing part was that the staff member in charge of our dinner was a foreign female staff member who frequently stumbled over her words, making her difficult to understand, and she provided almost no explanation of the dishes. The guest next to us seemed to be served by a Japanese male staff member who explained ingredients and cooking methods very carefully. We believe such attentive explanations are part of the dining experience, so this was extremely disappointing. Also, one dish listed on the menu (sashimi) was skipped and the next course arrived. When we asked about it, we were told, “You haven’t received your sashimi?” They brought it afterward (out of order), but when they delivered it there wasn’t even a single word of apology, which left us very disappointed. Perhaps they overheard us saying there should have been an apology; in the end they did apologize. However, shouldn’t an apology come first when bringing a missed dish? It is heartwarming to see foreign staff working hard abroad, and we want to support them—but that applies to everyday services like supermarkets or convenience stores. When paying a high price for an Accommodation like this, it is hard for us to accept. We felt that the quality did not match the price. We do not think this is solely an individual staff member’s fault; rather, it is the Hotel’s responsibility for not recognizing these issues and not providing sufficient training. We sincerely hope you will make improvements. If that cannot be done, you should consider revising your pricing.

    We stayed here for a...

    We stayed here for a birthday trip. The atmosphere inside the Accommodation was calm, and we were able to spend a relaxing time. The meals were especially delicious, and at dinner we were impressed by the attentive service and thoughtful care from the staff in charge of cooking. We enjoyed every dish, and mealtime was truly delightful. The miso soup at breakfast had a flavor unlike anything I’ve ever had before, and it left a strong impression. It was gentle yet deeply flavorful—truly delicious. It also felt wonderful to take a walk around the neighborhood in the morning, enjoying a peaceful Kyoto-like atmosphere. On the other hand, guidance upon arrival and check-in took quite some time, which was a bit disappointing. However, the rest of our stay was comfortable and made for a lovely birthday trip. Thank you very much.

    The hinoki (Japanese cypress) bath is…

    As expected, the Fufu series is consistently reliable. At this Accommodation as well, both the cuisine and the staff service were excellent. The garden in particular was beautiful, and dining while looking out at it made the meal feel even more delicious. I also visited the bar in a separate building, but for wine lovers it felt a bit lacking, as the selection there and at the dining venue wasn’t very extensive. Also, while I understand that hinoki baths are prone to mold and it can’t really be helped, it still bothered me. In addition, because the bedroom windows are shoji screens, I woke up as soon as the sun rose and couldn’t sleep in; sightseeing in Kyoto the next day ended up being a little tough due to drowsiness. That said, staff came out promptly to welcome us, and our car was brought right up to the entrance when we left. With many Ryokan seeming to lose that spirit of hospitality these days, I felt that Fufu’s staff training is thorough at every Accommodation.

    One-night trip to Kyoto with my pregnant wife and our 1-year-9-month-old child

    It was a one-night trip to Kyoto with my pregnant wife and our 1-year-and-9-month-old child. The cherry blossom scent the moment we entered the lobby was incredibly soothing. There is the Kyoto Municipal Zoo nearby, so we left our luggage and headed there. Since check-in is available from 3:00 PM, we were able to take a relaxing bath in the Room and truly unwind. The changing area, bathroom, and bathtub were all spacious, so our family could bathe comfortably without feeling cramped. The bathroom has glass walls so you can see into the Room, which our child found fascinating and enjoyed. In the evening, because our child is still small, they prepared a private dining room for us, but perhaps he couldn’t settle down and wouldn’t stop crying for quite a while. Since we were still at the beginning of the meal, I asked the staff if it would be possible to switch to in-Room dining, and they kindly agreed. Although it was an unusual request, they set up a table in the Room and served all of the dishes there as well—my wife was very happy. Because it’s not a price range we can afford often, we would like to stay again on a special occasion. It was an unforgettable stay, and we are very satisfied.

    Won’t disappoint

    Our family of four stayed for one night and booked two Rooms. Both the Room and the indoor bath were relaxing spaces, so we were able to unwind. The staff service was excellent! Last year, we stayed at Fufu Nara, and each has its own unique charm—we would love to stay at both again.

    Kyoto is the best.

    This was my first time visiting Fufu Atami. I was truly impressed. I traveled to Kyoto for a memorial service. I stayed at Fufu Kyoto. Everything was outstanding. The staff were kind, attentive, and genuinely caring. It was a truly wonderful Facility. I plan to visit Fufu properties throughout the whole country.

    The meals were delicious.

    During my short one-night, two-day stay, I felt the hotel was understaffed. I expected it to be busy during cherry blossom season, but the service didn’t feel attentive. Even though I reserved a breakfast time slot, I had to wait quite a while. I only had breakfast, but it was very delicious. If it had been a quieter season, my overall satisfaction might have been higher.

    Mother-and-daughter trip

    I’d been wanting to stay here for a long time, so I chose this Accommodation for my trip to Kyoto with my mother. From the entrance through check-in, every staff member was wonderful and made us feel very welcome. We also had both dinner and breakfast. The tableware was beautifully presented and a pleasure to look at, and everything was delicious. There were a few ingredients I can’t eat, and when I ended up leaving some food, a staff member kindly asked about it and adjusted the dishes on the spot. Thank you very much. The in-Room Onsen was great because I could use it anytime I wanted. The temperature was perfect, and it soothed away the fatigue from traveling. The bed was very comfortable as well, and I felt well-rested the next day without any lingering tiredness. This is an Accommodation that truly made me want to come back. If I could make one request, an ottoman for the Room sofa would be nice—it would be even more relaxing to stretch out my legs.

    At long last, Fufu

    I had long wanted to stay at “Fufu,” and I was fortunate to be able to Reserve it for this trip while sightseeing in Kyoto. Located in the Higashiyama area, it’s a convenient base for visiting Nanzen-ji Temple and Yasaka Shrine. The service, the Facility, and the cuisine were all excellent.

    It was a stay with breakfast only.

    Fufu Kyoto, which I chose for my stay in Kyoto, was a wonderful Accommodation that far exceeded my expectations. This time I enjoyed Kyoto-style oden for dinner elsewhere, but I was amazed by how outstanding Fufu’s breakfast was the next morning. It was so delicious that I truly wished I had booked dinner here as well. I also heard that dinner is available to non-staying guests, so next time I’d love to return and enjoy an evening meal too. The Room was impeccably clean, and thanks to the thoughtful attention to detail throughout, my stay was exceptionally comfortable. The in-room Onsen is one of Fufu’s true highlights—I indulged in it three times, whenever and as long as I liked. The nighttime bar atmosphere was also exceptional; savoring an amber-colored Yamazaki on the rocks made for a blissful moment.

    When we got out of the car, you greeted us with “Mr./Ms. ○○, we’ve been expecting you,” even though we hadn’t said our name. We were truly grateful and happy that you remembered us. At mealtime as well, as soon as we stepped out of the elevator, a staff member immediately said, “Mr./Ms. ○○, I will escort you,” which we greatly appreciated. This was our first time staying in this Room, but it was so comfortable that it felt disappointing to leave after just one day—so next time we made a Reservation for two nights. One wonderful thing about this Hotel is that it keeps a record of each guest’s preferences from their stay. Everything was taken care of, and we were completely satisfied. The only sad part was learning that the head chef has changed.

    We had a very relaxing stay.

    After a wonderful stay at the group’s ATAMI Sekaie, I chose Fufu Kyoto for the first time on this trip to Kyoto. The overall atmosphere of the Accommodation and the Room was excellent, and the food—especially dinner—was outstanding, so I was very satisfied. Service was generally fine, though there were some inconsistencies among staff. It wasn’t that the staff in charge of international guests were bad, and I could see they were working hard, but there were often times when I couldn’t understand what was being said, which was a bit difficult. That said, the woman who handled our payment at checkout and saw us off was very pleasant, and we left in a great mood. Overall I was very satisfied; if I may make one request, it would be nice to be able to have coffee somewhere like the lobby lounge outside of the Room. In any case, I really liked it overall and would love to visit again in a different season. Thank you very much.

    It was my first time in Kyoto.

    It was my first time visiting, and I was really looking forward to it. I arrived early by car, but no staff spoke to me, so I waited in the parking lot. At that point, I thought, “Huh?” I was also concerned about hair on the tray in the Room and dust on the toilet paper holder. Both dinner and breakfast were very delicious. However, the staff member serving dinner didn’t seem to know the details of the ingredients; even when I asked where something was from, they kept saying they would check. The reason I decided to write this review is as follows: After breakfast, I was asked what time I would check out. Since I had plans, I told them a little after 11:00. When I went to the front desk around 11:10, a staff member told me to wait because they were bringing my car from another parking area. In the end, my car didn’t arrive until after 12:00. There was no update while waiting and no drink service either—I was honestly disappointed. On a positive note, the male butler who served breakfast was excellent—he explained each dish in detail and chatted with us a bit during dessert. Thank you very much.

    It was a wonderful anniversary.

    Once again, our stay was a memorable one, perfect for celebrating my daughter’s birthday. The Japanese-style garden and the Room were filled with thoughtful touches, allowing us to relax and forget about everyday life. The cuisine was outstanding—beautifully presented and exceptional in taste—and we were truly moved by an experience worthy of such a special occasion. We were very satisfied with the attentive hospitality unique to a small luxury Hotel. One small note: the bath in the Room was too hot for me, so I needed to adjust it quite a bit.

    Following our stays in Nara and Kawaguchiko, we visited Kyoto this time with my son’s family. Thank you for helping us enjoy a wonderful day, including a surprise celebration for my 60th birthday. We also truly appreciate how carefully and promptly you shipped the item we left in the refrigerator. While the view from the Room was a little disappointing, we could stroll around the garden, and it is a lovely Accommodation where you can feel the staff’s thoughtful attention to detail.

    The breakfast is delicious, and I’m very satisfied.

    This was my first stay. Many of the staff seemed young and a bit inexperienced, but they were polite and attentive, and their hospitality was excellent. The in-Room Onsen was very relaxing, and I used it many times during my stay. The towels and amenities were well stocked, and it was very convenient to be able to order additional items on an iPad. Breakfast featured many small dishes with a great variety, and the white miso soup was especially delicious—I enjoyed everything. Regarding the Room layout, I felt the lattice partition between the bed and sofa wasn’t necessary. It blocks the TV view from the bed and makes the space feel smaller. Also, the door separating the Room from the bath area was difficult to open and close, and I almost got caught in it a few times. A single hinged door would be easier than double doors. Other than that, I was very satisfied overall and would love to visit again.

    An exceptionally good Hotel

    We stayed here on a family trip. The Room was spacious, the food was delicious, and the staff were kind, making our stay truly comfortable. We especially appreciated the underfloor heating in the changing area of the bath.
