    Very good

    There is an Onsen with natural hot spring water, and we enjoyed it multiple times. While opinions on the meals may vary, we found them very delicious and satisfying. The lounge offered a variety of drinks and snacks, allowing us to relax since there was no TV in the room. We also enjoyed six types of Japanese sake and wine from a coin-operated dispenser, which was a delightful experience.

    It was a good accommodation.

    Attention to detail was evident throughout, and there were many captivating moments. The room amenities were of high quality, with the chairs being particularly comfortable and beautifully designed—I even found myself wanting the same ones. While the low beds, which are common these days, were slightly challenging for us older guests to get up from, the light emanating from the base helped prevent any nighttime mishaps like bumping into furniture—a thoughtful touch that impressed my husband. The T-shirt rental service was also much appreciated. Overall, it felt like everything was carefully considered for the comfort of guests. As for dinner, as mentioned in other reviews, the portions were on the smaller side and left us feeling a bit unsatisfied; however, each dish was meticulously prepared and delicious (we especially enjoyed the main meat dish). Breakfast was also delightful—the mackerel may have been small but was rich in flavor and absolutely delicious. In summary, this is an excellent accommodation that we would love to visit again. Thank you very much!

    Natural Hot Spring and Freshly Cooked Rice

    The natural hot spring was the reason for my choice, and I am satisfied. The freshly cooked rice at breakfast was delicious, and I felt the ingredients were well-utilized. I also appreciated the attentiveness of the staff.

    Is a TV necessary?

    The facility, staff, bath, and meals were all excellent. Thank you very much. However, since there was a Shohei Ohtani game this time, I thought it would have been better to have a TV. At the very least, it would be nice to have a TV in a relaxing area in the lobby.

    It was very relaxing.

    Polite service and an exceptionally clean and beautiful Facility that doesn't feel over three years old. The meals were delicious, but dinner portions were small (likely insufficient for men), so bringing some snacks is recommended (there is a late-night snack option, but you might get hungry before then). It was a relaxing and soothing space.

    Too many preferences, somehow...

    If all-inclusive is your selling point, shouldn't all Plans be that way? I ordered a carefully selected cuisine Plan on IKYU.com. Later, I found out there was an all-inclusive Plan, but it only mentioned Western cuisine. I was satisfied with the carefully selected cuisine, but it seems the food was the same. In that case, I should have chosen the all-inclusive option. The award for being ranked as the world's No.1 luxury Hotel might be raising expectations too high involuntarily. For its price range, it's average. There are many young female staff members; considering today's labor shortage issues, training and recruitment must have been challenging for them. The dishes seemed to be creatively prepared in various ways. The olive oil from Etajima was very delicious! Still, given the price... well... perhaps only customer service exceeded expectations?

    Maybe I expected too much.

    I chose to stay at a highly-rated accommodation for my much-anticipated New Year holiday. I splurged on a nice room, but there was constant noise from what seemed to be an outdoor unit, and my husband could hardly sleep. In the morning, I informed the front desk about this issue, but all I received was an apology from the staff. Additionally, I requested a massage and was told they would inform me later about the room where it would take place. However, even as the scheduled time approached, there was no contact. In the end, I had to call the front desk myself. What should have been a relaxing trip turned into an exhausting experience. We specifically planned our trip to Hiroshima just to stay at this accommodation, but it ended up being disappointing.

    The Onsen was absolutely amazing!

    The quality of the Onsen and the room was excellent, and the atmosphere was perfect. However, the French dinner was the worst I’ve ever had at any restaurant; there wasn’t a single dish that was edible. The breakfast, on the other hand, was warm and delicious, made by local island mothers! I’d like to visit again, but I will definitely not have dinner there. It mentioned being part of "Top 100 French Restaurants," but what kind of ranking could that have been?

    I had a relaxing time.

    The interior furniture, indirect lighting, and room design were very tasteful and captivating. I thoroughly enjoyed a relaxing stay by soaking in the footbath, strolling along the beach in front of the Hotel, and unwinding in the lounge. At the post-bath area, I had a great time chatting with the bartender and enjoyed delicious cocktails after a long time. However, while meals might have been locally sourced, I felt they could use more creativity and impact. Breakfast was ordinary—perhaps that’s the concept—but it would have been nice to see some unique touches in at least one dish. Unfortunately, the rice served at breakfast was cold, which was disappointing. The miso soup also needed significant reheating to be enjoyable; this too was regrettable. On a positive note, having drinks available for an extended period at the lounge was fantastic! The staff were excellent as well—I left very satisfied overall. Thank you!

    A wonderful accommodation where you can enjoy a relaxing and luxurious time.

    The hotel staff, all locals as I heard, were incredibly kind with wonderful smiles and provided excellent service. When I mentioned that I couldn't eat oysters, a local specialty, they kindly offered an alternative dish—truly attentive service. The lounge offerings and late-night snacks were delightful and delicious. Unfortunately, I forgot to mention my dislike for raw seafood; the large piece of raw amberjack carpaccio was too much for me to eat, and I felt bad leaving it behind. This is definitely an accommodation I'd love to visit again!

    I was healed by the nature of Setouchi.

    I slowly enjoyed the welcome drink and was shown to the Room. The island and beach, accessible during low tide, allowed me to experience the nature of Setouchi, and the footbath on the terrace was also nice. Throughout the day, it was so quiet that I couldn't hear the sound of the waves, and I was able to relax in my favorite spot within the facility. The rare glass pens were enjoyable, with a wide selection of ink colors to choose from. The meals were just the right amount and delicious. Although there was a vending machine for drinks, it would have been nice to have drinks in the room's refrigerator for an additional charge so I could enjoy them at my leisure. The amenities and room wear were well-stocked, and above all, the service was courteous, making my stay very pleasant.

    Meals!!

    Thank you very much. I enjoyed my 2 Multiple Night Stay. However, I was disappointed with the meals. Recently, there have been many similar Reviews, which reassured me.

    Disappointing

    This was my second night at a five-star hotel on Iki Island, Nagasaki. I chose this hotel for the second night to enjoy French cuisine, having had kaiseki on the first night. However, the meal was not delicious at all. I've dined at various places, but the quality here was very low. Additionally, the staff lacked a sense of hospitality. They simply delivered the dishes and briefly explained them without any effort to engage in conversation and improve the atmosphere, which was disappointing. My seat was next to the span door, which felt very cramped, despite the fact that there were plenty of available seats around at my 19:30 reservation. Moreover, the lighting made all the dishes on my table cast shadows, making it impossible to see the colors of the ingredients, forcing me to lean back in my chair to eat, which was an unacceptable situation. I felt sorry for anyone who had to dine at this seat regularly. If the person in charge had been observing the scene, this wouldn't have happened. The food was served late and lacked volume, so I filled up on bread. The dishes for the warm food were cold, and just touching them revealed the quality. There was a curry night snack service at the lounge at 10 PM after dinner, but when I went, all the seats were full, and a long line formed once the service started. Everyone was eating heaps of curry, and some even went for seconds. I believe this was because the dinner lacked volume and left people hungry. During dinner, the staff's fatigue was apparent to the guests, and it made me feel tired instead. Although this review is quite harsh, I had high expectations because I previously worked in the travel and hotel industry, and the Etajima Hotel had won awards in three categories at the World Luxury Hotel Awards 2024. I stayed with a professional eye to observe various aspects, but there were too many disappointments. Firstly, there are too few staff members. Their tiredness is evident in their actions. You can tell a lot about a hotel from the staff's behavior, and I felt very sorry for them. Lastly, there is always a response from the general manager to every review. However, many replies end with "Please take care of yourself in these times." If they are responding to each guest individually, wouldn't the wording be different? I hope the hotel becomes worthy of the awards it has received.

    Meals!!

    Thank you very much. I enjoyed my 2-night stay. However, the meals were boring. I was relieved to see many similar reviews recently.

    I was able to spend my time comfortably!

    The sea can be seen right in front of the room, and when I went to the coast, I was amazed by the clarity of the water. I was able to relax while looking at the calm Seto Inland Sea. The amenities were thoughtfully arranged down to the details and were wonderful. The slippers were the same easy-to-walk-in ones my grandmother used to buy, and I was nostalgic and happy to wear them again after a long time. I also thought the jacket to wear over was stylish. As for the food, the seasoning of the carpaccio at the beginning of dinner was a bit lacking, but this might be a matter of personal preference. Everything else was delicious, and the portions were just right. It was a bit disappointing that the ozoni soup at breakfast was slightly lukewarm. The rice was very delicious! I enjoyed my stay as I could have coffee anytime on the first floor and see the beautiful sea just by taking a walk nearby. It was my first time in Etajima, but I didn't expect the sea to be so beautiful. I was able to relax in the Onsen, so I would love to visit again.

    It was the ultimate relaxation.

    I stayed for the first time. It was truly a wonderful hotel, just as the reviews said, or even better. The staff and the guests were lovely! There was a bath in the room, but I didn't use it as there was a large public bath, family bath, and foot bath, which were very satisfying. It was a hotel I wanted to visit every season. Thank you very much.

    Everything except dinner was wonderful.

    I went by car with a friend. Although it's a bit of a distance from Kure City, the location is great with a calm sea right in front, and the building is beautiful with stylish interiors. The Onsen is clean, and while the open-air bath doesn't offer a sea view, it has a small garden setting that feels spacious and wasn't crowded, allowing for a relaxing experience. The staff are all cheerful and provide courteous service. As it promotes digital detox, there are books available, opportunities to draw with glass pens, and analog games for borrowing, making it enjoyable. Since it was the weekend before Christmas, we could enjoy a free marimba performance with a complimentary drink in the Onsen building's lounge, making for a wonderful evening. However, the French course dinner was disappointing. Despite using local ingredients, the seasoning was unsatisfactory. I'm not particularly picky about taste and usually find most meals delicious, but I would decline if offered this dinner again for free. It's a real shame because everything else was excellent, so I can't recommend it to my friends.

    Relaxing

    The concept of this Hotel seems to be themed around the extraordinary, and there was no TV in the Room. I was surprised and disappointed because I made the Reservation and stayed without knowing this. (Watching the news in the morning and evening is one of my daily pleasures.) I thought that what constitutes the extraordinary might differ for each person. The Onsen was very nice, and I could see the full moon and stars in the night sky, providing an experience away from the usual daily life where I rarely look up at the night sky. I could imagine beachgoers relaxing on the coast in front of me during the summer, and I had time to relax in the Room. Revisiting just for the bath might be a good idea. It would have been nice if the meals included a bit more vegetables.

    This is a truly wonderful Hotel, except for the meals...

    We stayed on the all-inclusive Plan. The Room, the surrounding environment, and the staff were all wonderful, and it was a very satisfying holiday (except for the meals). We were impressed by the thoughtful touches and services throughout the Hotel (a glasses stand in the sauna, blankets at the footbath, sandals, lanterns provided, etc.). The pajamas were also made of a very comfortable fabric. However, for a Hotel of this class (and especially one that has recently received an award), the dinner was far too shabby. The taste was mediocre as well; it felt like half-baked French cuisine and did not seem at all like dishes prepared by a top-class chef. Since Etajima surely has great ingredients, it might be better to serve them simply—such as as sashimi—rather than adding sauces that are not tasty. I believe improving the meals is an urgent issue. After receiving an award, I expect more well-traveled guests seeking luxury will visit with higher expectations. I hope you will provide meals that do not disappoint them.

    Thank you very much for your hospitality this time as well. Following last year, I was able to participate in the project a little. I look forward to the activity report. During my stay, it was refreshing to see the artist's works displayed in the lobby. I enjoyed the original cocktail "First Love" at the bar in the Onsen's post-bath area. It was bittersweet and delicious. Both breakfast and dinner were very tasty. The menu was considered for our Multiple Night Stay, and the portions were just right for us as a couple, leaving us very satisfied. The only slight disappointment was that the rice in the breakfast pot was too much, and we ended up leaving some each time. There are still many places I want to visit in Etajima, so I would like to visit again. Thank you very much.

    Great satisfaction

    We stayed in 2 rooms for 4 people to celebrate my mother's 88th birthday and my sister and her husband's 60th birthday. We had reserved two Japanese-Western style rooms with balconies, but one room was upgraded to the largest room for free, and we were moved the moment we entered the room. The lobby's drink and snack service was also excellent, and we enjoyed a little sake and wine before and after dinner. Of course, we also had the late-night curry. However, it was a bit disappointing that we couldn't have the snacks available until 5 PM due to our late check-in. Dinner and breakfast were different in style but both featured healthy dishes using ingredients from Etajima, and the taste was very good with just the right amount. The Onsen was almost private both at night and in the morning, allowing us to relax. The in-house wear and bedding seemed to be carefully selected and were very comfortable. It was truly a great Property to forget the daily routine and relax, and one night was not enough to fully enjoy it, so I definitely want to visit again. My mother and sister and her husband were very pleased. All the staff were very pleasant, and it was clear that they worked with dedication, pride, and a spirit of hospitality. Thank you very much for taking care of us this time.

    It's not all-inclusive, is it?

    At the time of reservation, it was mentioned that we could have a beer after the bath, but we were told it was not available on weekdays. It was something I was looking forward to, so it's disappointing. I would like it to be stated in the reservation information that it is not available on weekdays.

    The spa is excellent!!

    I use this service once or twice every two months. I enjoy taking a bath, having all-you-can-drink alcohol in the lounge, and receiving a 90-minute spa (lymphatic massage), which is my blissful time. The spa (lymphatic massage) is very pleasant, and I feel refreshed all over after it's done! It blows away my fatigue! I will use it again.

    A lovely Hotel, but reconsider the meals.

    I read an article about winning the WORLD LUXURY HOTEL AWARDS 2024, and after staying for two nights at Dogo Onsen, I visited with great expectations by boat. The exterior of the building was simple, and I felt somewhat uneasy stepping inside, but the interior was very stylish, and I was impressed by the view of the Seto Inland Sea from the atrium lounge, feeling it was worth the boat trip. The bath also had a sense of openness, and I experienced the cold Onsen. The dinner, which was said to use ingredients from the island, seemed to have too few servers for the large number of guests, including group customers, and it felt like a conveyor belt service, as if having lunch at a cheap restaurant. The presentation of each dish was poor, and gradually, the excitement and anticipation for the next dish faded away. There were few dishes, and I imagined they might be trying to fill us up with a late-night snack. I had expectations for breakfast, but when guided to my seat, all the dishes, including miso soup, were already set and were all cold. Even though it was supposed to be a homemade breakfast, there was a large amount of okara, which I didn't feel like eating, so I had coffee and a few snacks in the lounge for breakfast. The female staff were very friendly and provided wonderful service.

    I was able to spend a leisurely island time elegantly.

    The onsen features a hot spring source flowing directly into the bath, allowing you to alternate between warm onsen and hot onsen for hours. It also left my skin feeling smooth, making it a very pleasant onsen experience. Both breakfast and dinner were served in refined flavors and portions that were just right for us in our 50s, without being too heavy. Additionally, the lounge was a very lovely space where we could fully enjoy an extraordinary experience, such as soaking our feet in the footbath while gazing at the sea or drawing pictures with a glass pen, something we don't usually do. The room offered a wonderful view just as shown in the photos, allowing us to spend our time elegantly. We definitely want to stay again.

    I am very satisfied this time as well.

    Following September, we had another girls' night stay in October. I was delighted that everyone enjoyed it. We had Japanese cuisine, which was very delicious. The curry for the late-night snack was also tasty. We were lucky to have a live performance of the erhu. The surprise presentation was also very moving. Thank you very much.
