    Excellent location

We visited Etajima for the first time as a couple during our summer vacation and stayed at this highly rated Accommodation. The Room offered a panoramic ocean view, and it was a wonderful location where you could step out from the lobby to the beach right away for a stroll. The meals, tea service in the lobby, and late-night snack service all exceeded our expectations. However, regarding breakfast time: after dinner we were asked for our preferred time, so we requested 8:00, but were told that all slots around 8:00 were already full and only 7:00 or 9:00 was available. 9:00 would have disrupted our plans for the next day, and it was disappointing to have to wake up before 7:00 for breakfast even though we came to enjoy a relaxing holiday. In the first place, at check-in I said we had plans and wanted to confirm breakfast time, but was told they would ask for our preference after dinner. In the end, after explaining the situation to the person in charge, they accommodated us with 7:30; however, I ended up apologizing for making an unreasonable request myself, which left me feeling unsettled. I understand it was crowded during the Obon holidays, but I hope they can find ways to handle this better.

The staff member who welcomed us was outstanding, and the drinks and light snacks in the lobby were excellent, giving us the immediate impression that this was a top-class Hotel. The meals were delicious and high quality, and we were very satisfied with the thorough explanations and attentive service despite how busy it seemed. The location is great, with beautiful views of the Seto Inland Sea and a well-maintained building; it was comfortable, and because it faces west we could enjoy the scenery throughout without worrying about direct sunlight. The private bath was also spacious, clean, and comfortable. The late-night curry service was perfectly timed when we felt a bit hungry, which increased our satisfaction even more. If I had to mention anything, aside from the person who first assisted us and the staff member who served us at dinner, some others—while doing their best—seemed inexperienced; also, the building felt somewhat like a retreat facility rather than having more distinctive character.

A Relaxing Getaway in the Setouchi Region

This is a small Hotel on a quiet, intimate beach, and every Facility was clean and comfortable. Right in front of the Hotel, you can enjoy swimming, SUP, and walks along the shore. The Onsen does not have a beach view, but the water is pleasantly warm and perfect for a relaxing soak. The Room also offers views of the beach, making it ideal for unwinding at your own pace. In the evening, there was also a mini concert in the lobby, which we enjoyed with drinks such as alcohol or tea.

    The location was ver...

The location was very appealing, with the ocean right in front of us and easy access to go straight into the sea. The food was delicious, and overall we had a comfortable stay. On the other hand, there was nowhere to hang swimsuits after swimming, so they still hadn’t dried by the next day, which was a bit inconvenient. It would be helpful to have a drying area or rack. Also, I unexpectedly started my period and asked at the front desk if sanitary products were available, but they weren’t. I was told to walk about 10 minutes from the Hotel to buy them at a shop. When I asked another staff member, they arranged Shuttle Service by car; however, since this can happen suddenly, having even a small supply available for purchase or provided at the front desk would help female guests feel more at ease.

Satisfied with my first stay at Etajimaso

This was my first stay at Etajimaso. As it is a member of the Japan Association for the Protection of Secluded Hot Springs and offers free-flowing natural Onsen, I chose this place to relax in the Onsen while also celebrating my birthday. I felt soothed from the very first welcome drink—sparkling wine. At the sunny counter, Hiroshima sake, wine, soft drinks, coffee, and tea were available, so you can unwind at your own pace with a drink whenever you like. There were also snacks such as cookies and chocolates, as well as fresh local vegetables, which was wonderful. There was even miso; I enjoyed it with cucumber sticks—it was delicious. After bathing, I poured some into a shot glass and enjoyed it outside in the garden while taking in the fresh air. The baths are salt-spring water, and alternating between the hot bath and the lukewarm bath (cold spring) is said to be effective. Since it was already a hot day, the lukewarm bath (cold spring / almost like water) felt especially refreshing. Although it’s a salt spring, it didn’t feel sticky. The open-air bath was also very pleasant—true to a seaside salt spring—and I even saw crabs walking around in the courtyard in front of it. Towels are provided in the changing area as well, so you don’t need to bring towels from your Room, which I personally really appreciated. There is no TV in the Room, creating a space where you can truly relax at ease. From the large window in my Room, I could see the coastline stretching out before me and a small island offshore with a red torii gate floating nearby. Apparently you can cross over only when the tide is out; if timing works out next time, I’d love to go. This time I chose a Room with a shower as well—but honestly didn’t need it (lol). Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. At dinner dessert came with a message on the dessert plate—I really appreciated that thoughtful touch. And of course I also enjoyed the staff meal served from 10:00 p.m.; it was hearty beef hayashi rice with generous pieces of meat. I’ll be back when I feel like slowing down again. Thank you very much.

We thoroughly enjoyed both the Onsen and the meals.

We decided to take a family trip after seeing a YouTuber’s video. When you open the Room door, straight ahead is a fixed center window with an unobstructed ocean view. It’s a refreshing scene where the blue sea and blue sky feel as if they blend into one. For three of us, the staff prepared two beds plus a futon in the tatami corner. We rested very comfortably. The Onsen information explained that the source water is lukewarm, and that alternating between the mist sauna and the regular-temperature Onsen is effective, so we tried it. Dinner was a course meal. Because we made an all-inclusive Reservation, it applied during meals as well—we enjoyed wine and beer, of course, and even the apple juice was delicious. The presentation was beautiful, and we had freshly baked bread with olive oil. Breakfast was titled “Mom’s Breakfast,” and in the kitchen all of the women were working energetically. Having freshly cooked rice served straight from the pot was especially delicious. There was also a morning yoga class, which we joined. Even though it was mostly gentle poses, I sweated an incredible amount during the lesson. And after loosening up comfortably, it was time for another dip in the lukewarm source Onsen! The lounge offered sake tasting and a coffee machine as well, and for late-night snacks we had curry. There’s actually no TV in the Room, but we didn’t miss it at all. An aroma set with a wood-themed design was provided in our Room too, which also felt very relaxing. The Facility throughout the building was spotless. You can choose from samue loungewear, pajamas, or T-shirts for indoor wear—many guests paired pajama bottoms with a T-shirt as their outfit around the property. I kept thinking “I want to go again!” but since it takes five hours by car from our home, we won’t be able to visit for a while. Still, this is an Accommodation I’d love to return to. I hope this helps others.

    It was good, but

We visited to relax. The food was delicious and the bath was very pleasant, but the front desk service was disappointing. I understand it may have been our fault for arriving earlier than check-in due to bad weather, but even after we explained and filled out the form, no one came to assist us. Other guests were offered a welcome drink, but we were not. At checkout as well, the response felt like a casual “oh, thanks,” which was unfortunate.

Perfect Accommodation for a Solo Refresh Trip to Do Nothing

This was my second stay, and I was glad to see that the French dinner—which had been quite poor last time—has improved a lot. The complimentary lounge offerings are appreciated, but the afternoon tea consisted only of bite-sized pound cake and cookies, and they ran out quickly, so I hope you can offer something with a bit more volume. Also, if the coffee and tea cups could be changed to slightly larger mugs, it would help avoid wasting tea bags—please consider it. This time I stayed in a Room with a balcony, but the balcony chairs were fixed in place. I wanted to move them into the shade depending on the time of day, but couldn’t, which was quite frustrating. I was told this is for safety in case children stand on them and fall; if so, I would appreciate measures such as not allowing children to stay in balcony Rooms or providing stable chairs that won’t tip over. Other than that, there were many thoughtful amenities both in the Room and in the lounge, which was excellent. Etajima is truly a wonderful place, and I’d like to visit again. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    I’ll definitely stay here again!

It was the perfect reward getaway! On the ferry ride home, we promised ourselves we’d definitely come back (lol). This was actually our second visit, and it was an even more fulfilling stay than last year. From relaxing time at the bar to the footbath under the night sky and morning yoga, it was packed with fun...

My first time in Etajima, and it was a wonderful stay!

I spent my first stay on Etajima at Etajima Sou. It was a relaxing, fulfilling escape from everyday life. This is a wonderful Hotel filled with the unique character of Etajima throughout. I felt soothed from the very first welcome drink. In the lobby, guests each spend their time as they like. At the sunny counter, there is a tasteful sake-tasting corner that any guest can use free of charge. Hiroshima sake and wine are available, and you can pour a shot glass and enjoy it on the sofa while gazing at the sea, or step out into the garden and savor it with fresh air. Coffee and tea are also provided, so you can unwind anytime with a drink in hand. The shifu (paper-woven textile) used for the wallpaper was also beautiful. I heard that one of only two shifu weaving mills in Japan is Tsushima Textile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. here on Etajima. The linen bedding was also wonderfully soft and comfortable against the skin. The footbath on Nagi Terrace while looking out over the sea was delightful, and after sunset I enjoyed the garden with a lantern in hand. It was my first time experiencing an Onsen that tastes salty when you lick it. The water was clear, light, and refreshing—and left my skin glowing. I also liked that there was no TV in the Room. With a TV, I tend to turn it on without thinking, but without one you can truly notice the scenery and subtle changes in nature. It felt as if my mind became calmer—and even more sensitive to small details. From the large window in my Room, I could see the coastline stretching out before me and Shōryūsha’s red torii gate on a small island offshore. Apparently, only at low tide does a path appear from the beach to the island so you can walk across. If timing works out next time, I would love to try walking over. The Room aroma was lovely as well. It’s too bad I forgot to buy an aroma wood-and-oil set to take home—I had planned to! I was also intrigued by the set for enjoying herbal tea that was provided in the Room; next time I’d love to pick herbs myself and enjoy them. On my first night I stayed with No Meals Included due to scheduling, but on my second night I enjoyed both dinner and breakfast as well. Every dish—made with carefully selected ingredients from Etajima—was excellent, and at dinner they paired Hiroshima sparkling sake “Mitani Haru” for me. Thank you for always responding flexibly to my various requests and adjustments—it helped me greatly. I will stay again this autumn. I’m looking forward to it.

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

We stayed during Golden Week. The Accommodation (including the bath) was very clean, and the view was just as great as in the photos—overall, we were very satisfied. However, there were two things that concerned us: 1) The meal service was too fast We had dinner, but the dishes were brought out faster than we could eat, so several plates ended up on the table at once. The food was delicious, which made this a bit disappointing. 2) Toilet paper ran out in a shared restroom The toilet paper in the shared restroom on the first floor had run out, which was unsettling... Other than that, it was a very satisfying stay. Thank you!

    A Long-Awaited Return Visit

The service and location are outstanding. The Room feels a bit small. I hesitate to choose a larger Room because it costs more. However, the bedding was excellent—apparently thanks to the manager’s attention to detail—and the mattress was great as well. The Onsen is small, but I like the water quality and atmosphere. It would be perfect if the pleasant lounge had a few more snacks to go with drinks. As for meals, dinner was much better than before. Breakfast is a simple “island mom” style breakfast and hasn’t changed from before. I’d be happy if there were a few more distinctive Etajima ingredients. Overall, this stay was very satisfying, and I’d like to visit again.

    It exceeded my expectations.

I’d heard there was a wonderful auberge with an Onsen on Etajima, and I’d been interested for some time. Etajima is a special place for me. More than 40 years ago, after graduating from university, I enrolled in an officer training school across the water and spent time there as a KJ officer. After about eight hours of driving from the Kansai area (including breaks), we arrived to find a spacious parking lot—much appreciated, as even a large SUV could park with ease. The lobby was bright and open, making it very pleasant. Our room was a standard type on the 3rd floor without a balcony. Since it was still chilly and not really the season to relax outside, the view through the large window was more than enough. After the long drive, the slightly salty Onsen soothed my tired body. The reclining bath with a bamboo pillow felt especially wonderful—perhaps because of the salt content, my body floated lightly, and that buoyant sensation was incredibly relaxing. Because we were on a Multiple Night Stay, they kindly prepared different dinner menus for us. It turned into an even more enjoyable trip than I had imagined. As I’m getting older now, next time it might be better to take the Shinkansen to Hiroshima and come via Ujina Port.

    We had a wonderful time.

I saw this Hotel featured on JAL’s agora plus and immediately thought, “I want to go!” so I made a Reservation right away. It was my first visit, and I truly enjoyed a relaxing, elegant stay. The staff’s hospitality was wonderful, and the Room had an ocean view with a tatami area as well, which made it very comfortable. I was genuinely impressed by how relaxing it felt without a TV. The bed and sheets were so soft, and I don’t think I’ve ever slept this soundly at a Hotel. Dinner was absolutely delicious—I was moved from the very first bite, and it never disappointed all the way to the end. When the meat dish came out, I even thought, “It’s going to be over soon…” This time my mother and daughter and I were celebrating something small, so I mentioned it when making the Reservation, and they wrote a message on the dessert plate for us—it meant so much. I would love to come again for some rest and healing. Thank you very much.

This Accommodation truly embodies the spirit of Etajima. The hospitality, cuisine, and amenities are all naturally warm and gentle. The service was attentive in every detail. The free-flowing natural hot spring water was also outstanding. I wished I could have stayed longer to fully enjoy Etajima. If time allows, a Multiple Night Stay is recommended.

This is an Accommodation where you’ll want to enjoy a Multiple Night Stay.

I was a bit disappointed that I arrived late after getting the ferry time wrong, but the lobby was spacious and well stocked with drinks and snacks. After taking a short break, I headed to my Room and was shown to a bright Room with large windows facing the sea. It really raised my expectations for a comfortable stay. The meals were delicious, and I thoroughly enjoyed the Onsen with excellent water quality. They also seem to pay attention to the bedding—it was very comfortable, and I slept well. I wished I could have stayed one more night. Thank you very much to all the staff.

    The Facility, settin...

The Facility, setting, and Onsen are outstanding. Service at check-in felt a little inattentive in places, but overall everyone seemed to be doing their best—good enough. In particular, having a bar in the post-bath lounge where you can enjoy cocktails made by an experienced bartender after the Onsen is something I’ve never seen at other Onsen, and it was excellent. My only real complaint is the food. Breakfast is a simple Japanese set and very good, but the French dinner course—while not bad—felt more like banquet catering at a city Hotel. I understand that dinner starts are fixed to two time slots, which means many dishes must be served at once; however, as a result it doesn’t feel freshly cooked to order. That’s fine for dishes meant to be served cold, but it was disappointing for roasted items that should have been hot. I can also see the chef’s commitment to ingredients from Etajima in the menu, but it felt constrained by a standard full-course format (three appetizers, fish, meat, dessert). Since this is a Resort Hotel in the Setouchi area where fresh seafood should be readily available from the sea nearby, I felt guest satisfaction would improve if—even while serving French cuisine—the menu shifted more toward seafood-focused Southern French Mediterranean or Greek-style dishes. Meat doesn’t seem essential as a required course item. Of course, I understand Hiroshima oysters were disastrously scarce this year and also out of season timing-wise. The Accommodation itself is top-class on the hardware side, so I hope for improvements in service details and especially dining.

    It was very relaxing.

I was exhausted from the busy season and just wanted to go somewhere relaxing, so I was looking for a place to travel. I originally had plans in Hiroshima and searched for a convenient location with easy access to Hiroshima Station, but because this Accommodation has an Onsen and ocean views, I made a last-minute Reservation the day before. It was absolutely the right choice. The ocean view from the Room, traveling by boat to the island, and walks around the area—all with beautiful scenery. The Onsen was also unique for me: a strongly salty spring that I hadn’t experienced much before. Even though it was only one night, I went four times including the private bath, and also enjoyed the footbath separately. From Hiroshima Station it’s 30 minutes by bus and 30 minutes by high-speed ferry—if you can enjoy those views and that Onsen, it’s more than worth it. This is an Accommodation I definitely want to visit again, so here are three requests: The basic information said there would be a tablet in the guest room, but there wasn’t one. When I asked at the front desk, they said they no longer provide them. Since there’s no TV either, it felt like a nice digital detox—so I’m fine without it as long as the listing is updated accordingly. I wanted a stamp book from “Hitou wo Mamoru Kai,” but I was told it only applies when booking through your official website or through their website. It would be helpful if this could be clearly stated somewhere in advance. About the room wear: I understand there’s a reason for what you provide (as explained in-room), but unfortunately it doesn’t absorb sweat well. After bathing or upon waking up, it felt uncomfortable because of that. There are T-shirts available separately in the changing area, but using them means extra laundry as well. Would it be possible to switch at least the top to a more sweat-absorbing material? Please consider this if you can.

You’ll be completely satisfied no matter how many times you visit.

Due to scheduling, we stayed again after a two-week gap, and they thoughtfully ensured that neither dinner nor breakfast repeated the previous menus. Since opening, the range of dishes has expanded and the portions have increased as well, so I think guests of any age or gender will be very satisfied. This time, the oyster gratin was especially delicious, and enjoying their farm-to-table menu featuring local Etajima specialties is always the highlight of our stay. We also tried a banana juice at the post-bath lounge we’d been curious about for a while, and had a lovely chat with the wonderful master—such an enjoyable time. Unfortunately it rained, but they held a small Sunday morning market in the lobby, so we had fun buying mandarins and fresh vegetables. It’s a truly wonderful Accommodation that never gets old no matter how many times you stay. Once you stay here, you’ll want to come back again.

    The Room and lounge ...

The Room and lounge are wonderful. It’s also great that you can access the beach right from the Hotel. However, we were tired upon arrival and wanted to get to our Room quickly, but we had to wait 20 minutes for check-in. Even when we went to the restaurant at our Reservation time, we were kept waiting. The tables on both sides of us that had been vacated remained piled with leftover food from the time we sat down until we left, and the staff also seemed inexperienced in how meals were served. I assumed it was due to understaffing, and I felt sorry for them as well. The next day, when we rented bicycles, the woman who assisted us was considerate of my elderly mother and handled things flexibly, so we left the Accommodation feeling good. It’s a very good Accommodation, so if staffing increases and training improves—allowing you to fully demonstrate Etajima-style hospitality—I think it will become an even more wonderful Hotel. We’re cheering you on.

I was finally able to stay at Etajimaso for two nights, a place I had wanted to visit for years. There were so many wonderful things—the ocean and views from the Room and lounge, the delicious meals, the bedding, and more. No matter how many times you visit, you’ll want to stay again.

This is my sixth stay. There’s no TV and nothing around, so I always bring my favorite magazines with me. I planned to relax, but by chance there was an erhu concert this time, so the stay flew by unexpectedly—yet it was a truly wonderful time. This time I used the private bath; the tub was spacious and towels were fully provided, so I recommend it for families with small children and for older guests. Dinner features a different menu each time I stay, and I was satisfied both visually and in taste. As always, the linens feel amazing against the skin, and I sleep very well. I had heard there would be a donut shop, but unfortunately they weren’t available at the Hotel. It might be nice to offer them to guests as a perk with priority access. It’s an Accommodation that makes you want to come back again. (I’m planning to stay again next month.)

An accommodation with excellent hot water and a relaxing atmosphere

The Onsen certified by the Japan Association of Secluded Hot Spring Inns is wonderful. The alternating baths between the natural 31°C water (which feels like room temperature) and warm water are refreshing, and the footbath with an ocean view is delightful. The water warms you thoroughly, and even my sensitive skin didn’t feel dry. Despite staying on a Saturday in mid-January, it wasn’t crowded, allowing for a relaxing experience everywhere. The accommodation is clean with a sleek design, and the hospitality is warm. It was also nice to enjoy coffee, tea, and small snacks anytime in the lounge (lobby). One issue was that the indoor wear provided doesn’t absorb moisture well, causing sweat to accumulate after bathing. Without wearing something underneath, it felt uncomfortable as post-bath sweat couldn’t be managed properly—this could even lead to catching a cold. In this sense, these indoor clothes don’t function like traditional yukata. Additionally, dinner at the restaurant was served at a window-side table where it felt cold. While hallways were warm for some reason only inside the restaurant did it feel chilly. I had to return to my room mid-course to grab socks because I couldn’t stay warm enough; my companion stayed barefoot in their indoor wear but mentioned feeling cold by the end of dinner too. Typically such restaurants or banquet halls maintain temperatures comfortable for light clothing; however here there were no extra layers provided which caused inconvenience. The French course dinner featured lightly seasoned dishes that highlighted fresh ingredients—it was delicious! Breakfast offered simple yet carefully prepared dishes with excellent flavors and balance. Overall though this accommodation was exceptional! Borrowing local books from their mini-library made for enjoyable reading moments while sipping juice or alcohol at their post-bath bar accompanied by records playing softly added charm. Nearby there’s a Maritime Self-Defense Force school (formerly Naval Academy), where we explored historical buildings along with exhibits—an educational visit full of intrigue! I would love another visit someday soon—thank you very much! (The room included a shower.)

I had a peaceful and relaxing time by the sea. The room was spacious, clean, and had a great view! The Onsen was also very pleasant. It was convenient that coffee and other drinks were always available in the lounge, and I could take them back to my room. Overall, I am satisfied, but one thing that bothered me was that there was no one at the front desk when I checked in, and no staff greeted me. At the very least, it would have been nice to have a sign or someone informing us to wait for our turn with guidance like "Please wait here as we are assisting guests in order."

Breakfast was traditional New Year dishes, but since it was January 2nd, the menu was the same as what I had at home on January 1st: black beans, sweet chestnuts, red and white pickled vegetables, teriyaki yellowtail, simmered dishes, and herring roe. It would have been nice to try something different since I had the opportunity to stay here.
