  The view from the Room is stunning.

  A renovated older Hotel that feels cozy and welcoming. The building is old and some parts of the Room still show their age, but the meals and service are attentive. What I especially enjoyed was watching the Omizutori ceremony at Nigatsudo. They called several times to encourage me to join, so I went almost on a whim, but it turned out to be a rare and valuable experience. They provided Shuttle Service by bus to the site, and it seems they also offer a stargazing tour in other seasons. I think it’s an excellent service. Dinner was creative with many dishes. Breakfast was not a buffet; instead, it was a Japanese set meal served in a large box. I could eat calmly while enjoying the view from the restaurant. There were many young female staff members; service varies by person, but overall they were polite and attentive. Next time, I’d like to stay during the season when the stargazing tour is available.

  The hospitality was excellent.

  I stayed in a separate Room with a visually impaired guest. Even though we hadn’t requested it in advance, the staff kindly provided Shuttle Service by car several times and showed great consideration. They also accompanied us when we went to get water. Thank you very much for your help. This is a Hotel I would like to visit again. The food was also beautifully presented.

  A Healing Accommodation Surrounded by Nature

  We stayed as three generations with our 4-year-old grandchild. After check-in, we enjoyed the firewood-splitting experience, and it was great that we were guided to reserve the private scenic open-air bath at the time of our Reservation. Getting from our Room to the main building required climbing stairs or an uphill path, which was a bit tough for the grandparents, but we met deer from Mt. Wakakusa along the way and our grandchild was thrilled. The meals were wonderful—not only delicious, but also thoughtfully presented with appealing aromas. We truly enjoyed local Nara ingredients, including Yamato vegetables. At night, we joined a stargazing tour at the summit of Mt. Wakakusa. Unfortunately it was cloudy and we couldn’t see the stars, but the night view—known as one of Japan’s New Three Great Night Views—is a must-see. A staff member took photos for us, making it a great memory. Roasting marshmallows by the fireplace and relaxing to the flickering flames and crackling firewood was very soothing. This is an Accommodation we’d love to visit again as each season changes.

  A Disappointing Trip

  Because I value the dining experience, I always request guaranteed window-side seats with a good view for both dinner and breakfast. When I applied via IKYU, I also wrote this in the comments section and added, “Please be sure to respond.” Since I did not receive any reply from the Hotel, I called and was told, “We cannot guarantee it.” So I said, “I’m making an unreasonable request, so I booked a higher-priced Room. If it’s still not possible, I will Cancel the Reservation.” Then I was told, “Since you reserved a higher-grade Room, we will properly arrange it.” To be safe, I asked for an email reply and received an email stating: “We will prepare window-side seats for both dinner and breakfast on both days.” At check-in, I asked again about the dining seats and was told that window-side seats would be arranged for both dinner and breakfast on both days. Dinner on the first night was indeed at a window-side seat. However, at breakfast on the first morning, we were guided to a seat that was not by the window. I explained that this had been guaranteed in advance, but nothing was done. With no other choice, I said we would come back later and informed the female manager at the front desk that they were not honoring the guaranteed seating arrangement. The female manager did not offer any apology. Afterward, my companion told me she had asked the female manager to call us when a window-side seat became available. Even after nearly 30 minutes back in our Room there was no contact; by then breakfast hours had passed. So I called the front desk and told the female manager: “You confirmed that I received an email guaranteeing this arrangement. Because your response has been far from sincere, we have decided to cancel after one night. Please refund us for the second night’s stay as well as for breakfast on the first morning. Also please come to collect our luggage close to checkout time.” The female manager only said she had “confirmed” it and again offered no apology at all. The same female manager came to collect our luggage; when I asked whether there would be any apology whatsoever, she only said “I’m sorry,” without anything further. For me and my companion—given how this Hotel is promoted as having beautiful night views—we were truly looking forward to our stay there including our dining experience. To put it bluntly regarding seating arrangements for meals, we feel deceived. In addition, we were deeply shocked by what felt like an indifferent response from the female manager throughout this situation.

Hospitality only has meaning when it is truly felt. We will share this matter thoroughly among our staff, as there is still much for us to learn. To ensure this does not happen again, we will make full use of your valuable feedback and continue working hard to provide better hospitality for all guests.

  Birthday trip~

  We stayed to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Even though we were traveling with our one-year-old child, the staff’s hospitality made it a wonderful stay. Thank you very much. The atmosphere was great, the view from the bath was beautiful, and the food was delicious! We also joined the stargazing tour, and it was nice to see such a beautiful night view. However, the Room walls were far too thin, and we could clearly hear voices from the next Room. At night and late at night, we heard things that really weren’t suitable for a family trip, and it honestly made us very uncomfortable. The Hotel itself was excellent, and I’d like to stay again. But it’s disappointing that I can’t quite say it became an unforgettable, truly wonderful birthday trip. To be honest, I just want to forget that part as soon as possible…

  A gourmet accommodation with panoramic views of the ancient city of Nara

  Three friends and I visited in February. As we climbed Mount Wakakusa, a lovely noren curtain welcomed us. We arrived early, but they kindly stored our luggage and recommended a place where we could enjoy a delicious lunch. The welcome sweet cheesecake was excellent. The front desk smelled wonderfully of aroma, and I meant to buy it as a souvenir but forgot. The Room was very clean and had large windows with a panoramic view over Nara from Mount Wakakusa. It would probably be more colorful outside of winter, but the winter scenery was beautiful too. Dinner was truly outstanding—an incredibly delicious meal that felt like the best of both Japanese cuisine and French cuisine combined. After that, we planned to use the open-air 전망露天風呂 bath with a view, but it was so cold that we gave up. We moved to the large public bath instead, but it was also too cold, so the bathing experience was a bit disappointing. Overall, the staff were very kind, and for this price I felt it offered great value. I would definitely like to visit again when it’s warmer. Thank you very much for everything.

  It was the best accommodation for a one-night trip to Nara.

  Before our stay, the Hotel contacted us to let us know that an event called Nara Rurie would be held near Nara Park during our stay, and suggested that we could choose a dinner time to match the Shuttle Service schedule. That was wonderful. I wasn’t aware of the event until then, but being able to attend made it an unforgettable experience. Thank you for the thoughtful suggestion.

  It was absolutely amazing!

  Anyway, the food was seriously delicious!! The private open-air bath was amazing too! The Room was clean and nice, but there was a stink bug in the bedroom, which was a bit of a letdown. Luckily, there was an insect spray in the Room, so it wasn’t a big issue! lol Since it’s a Hotel in the mountains, I guess it can’t be helped! I’d love to go again.

  I visited this time ...

  I visited this time with friends. Both the food and the service were excellent, and everyone was delighted! Even in the cold weather, the rooftop open-air bath felt amazing, and we also made a Reservation for the open-air bath the next morning, enjoying the view and making the most of our stay right up until check-out. My friends were very happy as well, and I’m glad I recommended ANDO to them. (For reference, I’m a repeat guest.)

  The view from Mount Wakakusa is spectacular.

  We arrived a little before check-in time, but they let us check in. The first thing you notice when you enter the Room is the breathtaking view through the large window. The view from the private open-air bath was also stunning. We had dinner at the restaurant; it was very creative and tasted excellent. I would be happier if alcohol were a bit cheaper. Compared with dinner, breakfast could use some improvement—the fish dish wasn’t served hot, which made it feel like it didn’t do justice to the other dishes. I think the view from Mt. Wakakusa and the dinner are worth paying for, but overall it still felt a bit expensive. There were some Reviews saying the service wasn’t very good, but we had no particular issues.

  Second time.

  I had such a wonderful stay when I visited five years ago that I wanted to bring my mother this time, so we stayed again. I especially recommend the stargazing tour, the private open-air bath, and the delicious meals! All of the staff were very kind, and when I accidentally got my in-house wear wet, they quickly prepared a replacement. Thank you for your wonderful hospitality.

  The penthouse is amazing!

  We stayed here as a family just after the New Year, visiting Nara for worship. I love Nara for its rich history, and this Hotel is said to be a renovation of an old inn. The moment we stepped inside, we were overwhelmed by the lobby that still retains a Showa-era atmosphere. Everywhere you look in the building feels nostalgic and wonderful. There were many international guests, but I think Japanese guests will also find the traditional Japanese ambiance very soothing. This time we stayed in the penthouse, and everything had been beautifully renovated. In particular, the breathtaking view from the large window placed at the corner of the Room was incredible. I’m a bit of a germaphobe and usually bring my own slippers, but it was so clean that I felt comfortable using what the Hotel provided and could truly relax. At both dinner and breakfast, the dining staff chatted with us in a friendly way, which made it easy to enjoy our meals without feeling tense even with children—something we really appreciated. Of course, both the food and drinks were delicious. We could use the open-air bath anytime, and being able to enjoy sunset, night views, and sunrise from such a spectacular tub made for a truly luxurious time. My family loved it too, and we’re already talking about coming back again. Personally, I love watching campfire videos on YouTube all the time, so having a fire pit in our Room was amazing! It was too cold to use much this season, so I’d love to visit again when it’s warmer.

  I rediscovered what makes Nara so special.

  We started with an early check-in as a Diamond member perk. Access to the Room was a little inconvenient, but it was spacious and very clean. The bathtub in the Room seems best suited for couples, or if you have small children. Instead, we enjoyed the large public bath and the private open-air bath. It was right around sunset, so we could soak while enjoying the changing scenery. And dinner was truly outstanding. It featured plenty of ingredients from Nara with a French-inspired twist, and every dish looked beautiful and tasted delicious. The staff kept just the right level of attentiveness, and it was heartwarming to see experienced team members quietly supporting those who were still getting used to things. We also joined the night tour that was offered to us—the night view was absolutely stunning and even better than expected. It wasn’t available this time, but next time we definitely want to stay in the penthouse!!

  The location is exce...

  The location is excellent. I had a wonderful time and made great memories. Thank you. The food was also very delicious. However, the staff's explanations were not very clear, which was disappointing. It's not about their attitude but rather their skills (presentation ability) that need improvement. When I used the restaurant before, the service quality also felt lacking, and I thought it might be because it was close to the opening and they were still getting used to things... Please work on leveling up a bit more. One more thing, the construction of the Room felt a bit rough in some areas. I look forward to using your services again, so please take care of these points!

  A Hotel with Stunning Views of Nara City

  In mid-December, I stayed for one night as a birthday treat for myself. The welcome drink, Japanese black tea (Tsukinokaori from Tsukigase), and the cheesecake were delicious. As I was traveling alone, I chose a standard double bed room, but the tatami-floored Japanese-style room was very spacious and comfortable. What left the biggest impression on me was the breathtaking view of Nara City. The views from the lobby and restaurant were stunning, and the winter fireplace added a warm touch to the atmosphere. By the fireplace, roasted sweet potatoes, marshmallows, and cookies were provided; even though I was full, I enjoyed roasting sweet potatoes over the fire one by one. As it is a Japanese-style auberge, meals were meticulously prepared with attention to detail that delighted all five senses. Dinner portions might feel slightly small for men but were just right for me in my 50s in such a calm setting. As an IKYU Diamond Member benefit service, breakfast included tea porridge along with an upgrade using a ¥2,000 coupon to enjoy yudofu—a truly satisfying breakfast! I also indulged in the reserved open-air bath with panoramic views both in the evening and again in the morning. The thoughtful provision of towels and water at the bath area made this service even more delightful. Additionally, young staff members kindly drove us up Mount Wakakusa's summit for their stargazing night tour—though rare seasonal mist created an ethereal scene instead of stars—it became an unforgettable winter night experience. All staff members were incredibly kind and engaging; thank you so much! Next time I'd love to bring my family along for a multiple-night stay!

  I often travel to Ky...

  I often travel to Kyoto and Nara, but this was my first time staying in Nara. I chose this hotel for the view, and I was satisfied with not only the view but also the meals, service, and shuttle service. Please continue maintaining this high level of quality!

  I reserved the Terra...

  I reserved the Terrace Suite. Although I was initially concerned due to some reviews mentioning poor layout, I checked the room on the accommodation's website before my stay. The photos of the room and a note about slopes and stairs leading to it were helpful in preparing for my visit. Thanks to this information, I enjoyed a quiet environment and a lovely room with a sense of privacy without feeling any inconvenience on the day of my stay. Walking up and down also served as light exercise before and after meals, which was nice. The room allowed me to feel close to nature, and thanks to thin curtains, I woke up pleasantly in the morning with gentle natural light. From making the reservation through check-out during my stay, all staff provided attentive service with great care. Regarding the open-air bath: although some reviews mentioned it being too cold to use, I decided to try it anyway. Once there, enjoying beautiful scenery while soaking made me forget about any coldness—it turned out to be an amazing experience! It did take a bit of courage stepping outside initially. The meals featured seasonal ingredients from Nara among other local specialties—everything was delightful! The staff explained each dish with warm smiles throughout dinner service. Since we ordered pairing drinks, we were able to enjoy beverages that perfectly complemented our meal. I would love to visit again someday. Thank you for your hospitality!

  The staff are courteous, and all the hospitality is warm and welcoming.

  I had a pleasant stay. Perhaps due to the characteristics of the renovated building, the route to the guest rooms was a bit long, and at first, I almost got confused about which way to turn. However, this added a sense of exclusivity when heading to the special room in the back, which was nice. The small confusion was completely outweighed by how warm and attentive the staff were; their hospitality made my stay very comfortable. The location is also excellent—close to Nara Park and surrounded by many other attractions. A morning walk in this area was truly exceptional. Both dinner and breakfast featured plenty of local Nara ingredients with numerous dishes that left me highly satisfied. I also enjoyed participating in the nighttime stargazing tour, which became a wonderful memory for me. Despite some complexity in navigation within the building, this Hotel excelled overwhelmingly with its hospitality, location, and dining experience. I would love to stay here again when visiting Nara!

  What a place!

  I usually stay in accommodations in the city, but this was my first time experiencing such a mountain location. I thoroughly enjoyed the view from the room and the open-air bath. The meals were not only delicious but also visually appealing and full of stories to enjoy. The only downside was that some children from multi-generational families were a bit noisy during meals (though I understand their excitement). Perhaps having private rooms or separate spaces would make it more comfortable for everyone. The night view of Nara from Mount Wakakusa was stunning, and the staff provided just the right level of attentive service. I'd love to visit again in a different season!

  Exceptional hospitality in every detail

  Check-in is relaxing with tea and sweets while seated on a sofa. The restaurant view is absolutely stunning. You can feel the spirit of hospitality in many aspects. The night view tour of Mount Wakakusa was also wonderful. It has become a Hotel I want to visit again.

  First of all, there ...

  First of all, there seems to be an issue with hospitality. While deciding whether to have the welcome drink upon arrival, another guest arrived, and an employee stood silently holding the guest's suitcase as if urging us to vacate the seat quickly. After explaining about the accommodation, when I turned around, the employee's facial expression completely changed. The worst part was that there was no key for the room safe! When I contacted the front desk, they responded by saying, "Recently some foreigners seem to have taken it home; you can either manage it yourself or leave it at the front desk." I decided to leave it at the front desk but was only handed a single paper bag and had to request tape myself. It seems urgent measures should have been taken regarding providing keys for room safes. The only positive points were that dinner was delicious and there was an explanation from what seemed like a sommelier when ordering alcohol. Since hospitality is crucial in this business, I hope proper training will be implemented moving forward and look forward to improvements during my next stay.
