    Anyway, the food is outstanding.

    This was our first stay here. The open-air bath in the Room had a great view, the indoor bath had a jacuzzi, and we also found the large public bath relaxing and very enjoyable. The food was outstanding and delicious. We have stayed at many places, but this was the best we have ever had. There were so many dishes that we wondered if we could finish them all, but everything—from kaiseki with French-inspired touches to the dessert—was thoughtfully prepared and a pleasure to enjoy.

    Amazing food!

    We had some unexpected free time and stayed here as a couple. This is our third visit, as it’s an Accommodation where you can relax in luxury. The Room, service, and Onsen were consistently satisfying as always, but the cuisine felt like it had reached a new level. Not only was everything delicious, each course brought surprise after surprise. Nothing—even the dessert—felt ordinary, and we were truly delighted. Perhaps due to the impact of the Kumamoto earthquakes, it seems a bit easier to make a Reservation right now. We’d love to return again.

    About the Bathroom

    Many small insects appeared in the bathroom, which was very bothersome. They also got into the washroom area, which was unpleasant. The Facility is new and functional, but it was disappointing. I even had to remove the insects myself (cleaning?). There was a notice in the Room, but instead of just leaving insect spray, I think more fundamental measures should be taken. This is a fairly expensive Room for ordinary people. The very good impression when I entered and the disappointment when I left were exactly inversely proportional.

    This is my second stay.

    This was our second stay. We came back because the food last time was so delicious, and once again every dish was truly wonderful. My daughter has many allergies, but the staff carefully confirmed everything with us, so she could enjoy the meal safely and deliciously. Thank you very much. We also enjoyed the open-air bath in our Room, as well as the open-air bath and lying-down bath in the large public bath area. This time we also used the hot stone spa and bedrock sauna, and we had such a lovely time that it felt like there wasn’t enough time. We were sad to leave. We will definitely come back again.

    We left the Accommodation feeling truly grateful for the thoughtful, understated gesture to celebrate our special occasion, and telling ourselves we’d work hard so we could come back again. The food in particular was outstanding—although we’ve stayed at many Ryokan, this was top-tier.

    It was very relaxing.

    It felt wonderful to walk barefoot on the tatami mats and wooden hallways. The Onsen’s stone sauna and hot stone bath were also very relaxing. We were very satisfied with the delicious meals.

    Exceptional hospitality

    I stayed here with my parents in their 80s, who are a little unsteady on their feet. We arrived early, but a staff member who was tending to the grounds kindly took the time to show us around, and we were delighted by the warm welcome from the moment we arrived. From the moment we entered, they showed thoughtful care for my elderly parents, and throughout our stay we were truly grateful for every staff member’s smiles and heartfelt hospitality. The meals were not only beautifully presented but also tasted even better than expected, and we enjoyed them together with the wonderful views. From arrival to checkout, thank you very much for your consistently warm words and attentive service.

    The ultimate digital detox accommodation, soothed by nature

    This was my first time staying here. The surrounding area is rich in nature and felt like the perfect place to unwind from everyday fatigue. Both the large public bath and the open-air bath offered different views, and I enjoyed them to the fullest. The meals also came with thoughtful explanations and were very delicious.     Disappointing, especially given our high expectations.

    After watching videos and reading Reviews, I had long wanted to stay here, drawn by the Onsen and spectacular views. However, I was left with a slightly disappointing impression. First, I appreciated being welcomed on arrival, but I was surprised that my suitcase was dragged loudly from the parking area into the building. I had never experienced this before, and it made me sad because it felt like my luggage wasn’t being handled with care. I don’t expect you to carry something heavy the entire time. When it seemed you were carrying it at times, I said it was fine to set it down on the ground, but since it continued to be dragged as if that were normal, I wished someone had said a quick word about it. I understand there is no drop-off area and that this may make things difficult for you, but starting off feeling upset lowered my mood and didn’t leave me feeling good. As for dinner, everything was lukewarm, which reduced how enjoyable it was and gave me the impression we weren’t truly being welcomed. It was disappointing because the food could have been wonderful. That said, all of the staff were kind and welcoming with warm smiles, so overall we were able to spend our time comfortably. Also, the Room was clean, and the private open-air bath in the guest room had an incredible view—it was excellent. These are two points that disappointed me this time; I would appreciate improvements if possible. I would also like to visit again during cherry blossom season when they are likely in full bloom.

    It’s a great accommodation.

    This is my second stay. Above all, the open-air bath on the balcony is outstanding; soaking in it while taking in the majestic mountains spread out before you makes this Room worth staying in for that alone. The amount and quality of the meals were also excellent, and I would like to visit again during the autumn foliage season.

    Relaxing Accommodation

    This was my third stay. Taking off your shoes at the entrance and walking on tatami makes it feel like coming home. There is a large public bath, an open-air bath, a sauna, a stone spa, and a newly added bedrock bath, so there’s plenty to enjoy. All the staff were kind and shared lots of local information with us. The meals are delicious as well. Above all, the gorge right in front offers wonderful views from the Room and the large public bath. It’s an Accommodation where you can truly relax—and every time I visit, it makes me want to come back again.

    I had another very satisfying stay. I was able to stay in the Room with a great view that I’d been wanting to book for some time, and I could truly relax. The staff’s courteous and warm hospitality was just as wonderful as always, and I’d love to stay again next time.

    An Accommodation where you can truly appreciate the chef’s craftsmanship at both dinner and breakfast

    The Room, bath, hospitality, meals, and cleanliness—everything at this Accommodation was nearly perfect. The cuisine in particular was outstanding, easily exceeding the Accommodation Fee. Dinner was uniquely structured rather than formulaic: after the appetizers, the meal built umami with dashi and warm dishes before moving on to sashimi. It let me enjoy great fish with sake after a beer. The scallop shinjo centered on rich scallop flavor, lifted by the fresh aroma of Japanese pepper leaf buds, and finished beautifully with a clear dashi that went down cleanly. The burdock dumpling was bound not with a typical thick sauce but with a vegetable-based sauce—rooted in Japanese flavors yet carrying a subtle Western sensibility. Even the sashimi wasn’t just an assorted platter; it felt thoughtfully composed down to fat content, sweetness, aroma, and seasoning—especially memorable were the river seaweed and ume salt pairing. I was also surprised by the Onsen egg and mushroom soup palate cleanser. Despite its Western elements, it felt completely natural: deep mushroom umami, the roundness of cream, and the silky Onsen egg texture—all while staying true to a Japanese foundation. The hot pot wasn’t a standard beef hot pot or pork shabu-shabu; it was seafood and spring vegetables in a soup-style broth where the star was clearly the soup itself. It didn’t rely on richness from fat—instead it layered umami into something so drinkable I ended up finishing every last drop. Only one small point: some appetizers felt slightly pre-made overall, especially where fried items had lost their lightness. Still, as the meal progressed you could really see the chef’s philosophy and design come through. Rather than leaning on flashy luxury ingredients, it was refined and distinctive cuisine that impressed through dashi depth, aroma, temperature control, and lingering finish. Breakfast left an equally strong impression. This wasn’t a typical pre-made Ryokan breakfast—Accommodations that serve breakfast at this level are rare. The fried squid shumai with pickled plum and the small black soybean natto were excellent as well; above all though، grilled lotus root black sesame tofu stood out for its deep sesame richness and toastiness paired with lotus root texture—a truly polished dish. I would gladly stay again just for the food. Thank you very much.

    Very good.

    It was a wonderful Accommodation in a peaceful mountain setting. Everyone was cheerful and courteous, with just the right sense of distance. The meals were thoughtfully prepared, and the hospitality was attentive. It was very comfortable, and we were able to relax and take our time.

    We had an amazing time.

    Traveling by plane from Tokyo to Kyushu with our 10-month-old baby! We stayed here on the very last day of our trip, because we wanted to board the flight home still feeling happy. In a word: this was the best Accommodation and hospitality we’ve ever experienced. - Dinner was served in a private room, which was wonderful. On top of that, the staff member who looked after us was so considerate of our child that it made us happy too—they even brought toys. - Above all, every staff member provided genuinely pleasant service. This time we stayed in an annex, and everyone was outstanding. - Every dish was carefully crafted; the wagyu sukiyaki and grilled domestic beef were on another level. My wife and I ended up getting seconds of rice twice each. - There is a kids’ room, so our child had fun playing. - We chose a Room with an open-air bath, and it was fantastic as well. - The Earl Grey umeshu (plum liqueur) was smooth and delicious. This is an Accommodation we truly want to return to. Next time, we’d like to plan our trip around staying here. I don’t usually write a Review, but I hope this helps anyone considering a stay.

    It was very relaxing.

    I had been hoping to stay here for some time, but never had the chance—until this visit, when I was finally able to make a Reservation for a scenic Room in the main building with an open-air bath. The bedrock sauna and stone sauna in the large public bath were as relaxing as rumored, and I was able to unwind at my own pace with almost no one else around. The meals were also delicious. What impressed me most was how easy it was to get around the spacious property without needing slippers or sandals anywhere. The terrace seating next to the main dining area is truly spectacular. The columnar-jointed gorge is stunning, and enjoying tea there made me feel that traveling all this way was well worth it. Lastly, I was very happy with the Diamond Member gift. I heard this item is also used on JR Kyushu’s Seven Stars train, which made it an even more memorable keepsake. Thank you very much.

    The meals were very delicious. We stayed for 3 days and 2 nights, and the menu was different each time; every dish was excellent. The view from the Onsen was wonderful, and thanks to the kind staff, we were able to relax and enjoy a peaceful stay. We also really liked Hita town, so we would love to stay again.

    Perfect for a Special Anniversary Stay

    I gave my wife an Onsen trip as a birthday present. It was our first stay, but the hospitality and service, the Room amenities and atmosphere, and the location were all more than satisfying. The meals were also excellent—great variety and generous portions, and every plum wine we tried was delicious. My wife loved it so much she even said she wants to come every year. She was also thrilled with the birthday gift you kindly gave us. We would definitely like to stay again next season. We look forward to seeing you then.

    Always a great stay, no matter when you visit.

    The meals were especially delicious this time. The hot spring water was clear and very pleasant. The coffee milk after the bath was exceptional.     The meals were especially good.

    The Room was a comfortable, well-sized space. I was told to contact the front desk to adjust the temperature of the in-room bath, but it was just right and very pleasant. I also used the large public bath and was very satisfied to be able to enjoy the hot stone sauna as well. The hallways and Room were comfortably warm with underfloor heating, and the staff were kind, making for a relaxing stay. It was a wonderful Accommodation where I would definitely like to stay again.

    It was truly a disappointing Hotel.

    I had reserved the Bettei Oushuku Suite Room. Upon entering the room, there was an overwhelming ammonia smell. I immediately opened all the windows and set the air purifier to MAX, but after waiting for a few minutes, I started feeling unwell and nauseous, so I contacted staff. Unfortunately, no other suites were available, so I had to move to a standard room. We waited about 40 minutes in the lobby while they prepared the new room. The new room had no strange odors and was normal. During dinner, when the general manager came to apologize, I asked if that smell was normal and was told it was "as usual." I decided to leave this review as feedback for improvement seems unlikely and hope it helps others considering staying here. While waiting in the lobby with my one-year-old child who became fussy, a staff member commented that my child seemed "unpleasant," which shocked me... While it may be inexpensive accommodation, this hotel left a very negative impression on me overall.

The view from my room was stunning, allowing me to enjoy peaceful moments surrounded by nature. The onsen provided deep relaxation, soothing both body and mind. Each dish served during meals was carefully prepared with great attention to detail, offering both visual appeal and exquisite taste—truly satisfying in every way. This is an accommodation I would wholeheartedly want to visit again someday. It’s perfect for celebrating special occasions with loved ones or taking time to care for yourself in peace.     This is the perfect Reservation for families with children.

    We used this for our daughter's 2nd birthday. We were worried about disturbing others if she got fussy during meals, but the private room Plan was well soundproofed, and the staff were kind and child-friendly, making it a very comfortable experience. The meals exceeded expectations for the price. The kids' menu was luxurious, and our daughter was absolutely thrilled. As someone who enjoys drinking, an all-inclusive option would have been even better—but I guess that's asking too much! We will definitely use this service again.

    The view of the valley from the Room during the autumn foliage season was stunning and truly moving.     It was a wonderful accommodation.

    This was my first stay at this accommodation. The room was spacious with a great view, and the staff were very kind. The bath had both a stone sauna and an active bath, allowing me to relax and lose track of time. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, with the mushroom hot pot at dinner being especially outstanding. I highly recommend this accommodation, and I plan to visit again in a different season.

    The room was on the first floor. The room was clean and comfortable to stay in. It would be nice if indoor slippers were provided in advance, although they can be brought upon request at the front desk. While using the open-air Onsen, a male staff member walked along what seemed to be a staff-only path, which made it uncomfortable as it was fully visible. This ruined the Onsen experience. There were various types of pillows available to choose from, allowing for a good night's sleep. The food was delicious.
