    An Accommodation you’ll want to stay at again

    My first trip to Nara since my junior high school trip. I wasn’t sure where to stay, but chose Asukaso based on its great reviews—and it truly lived up to them. Not only is it conveniently located for visiting shrines and temples, but the thoughtful, caring words from the staff were genuinely comforting. Coming back to the Accommodation in the heat, I was greeted with “Welcome back,” which made it feel like coming home, and I could refresh myself in the lobby with tea and ice cream. This time they also upgraded me, and I was able to use a Room with a washing machine, which was incredibly helpful. The food was delicious; the sashimi was very fresh and paired perfectly with sake. I also visited the rooftop bar. Although Kofuku-ji’s five-story pagoda was under restoration, the view was still wonderful, and I could relax while looking out over Sarusawa Pond. It’s rare to find an Accommodation that makes you want to return, but I’d love to stay here again next time.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    I stayed at this Accommodation in Nara while visiting the Prison Museum. It was a weekday and not crowded, so I was able to relax and take it easy. The staff kept a comfortable, respectful distance. The Room was spacious and comfortable. The bath was almost private. The food was also very satisfying. Next time, I’ll visit when I can see Kofuku-ji’s five-story pagoda.

    Stay at a UNESCO World Heritage Site

    I visited a World Heritage site right in the middle of the Obon holidays. I wasn’t sure where to stay, but I remembered looking up at Kofuku-ji from Sarusawa Pond on a school trip years ago and thinking, “This really is an ancient capital,” so I looked for somewhere close to Todai-ji Temple and Nara Park. Since I also love Onsen and the Reviews praised how you can enjoy meals at a relaxed pace, I chose Asukaso. The food was wonderfully delicate and delicious, with perfect portions and timing—truly worthy of a cuisine-focused Ryokan. There was also a great selection of alcohol. I usually prefer a breakfast buffet, but the rolled omelet was outstanding. The staff were very polite and made me feel comfortable. It happened to be during Tokae, and when I stepped outside after dinner, Kofuku-ji seen from Sarusawa Pond by candlelight felt truly mystical. I do wish the open-air bath didn’t block so much of the view with fencing—given the location, I wanted to enjoy the scenery from both the large public bath and outdoors. The main reason to choose this place is definitely the view, so I hope they prioritize that most. If the baths were kept in even better condition as well, it would be perfect.

    The Five-Story Pagoda is currently under restoration.

    I understand that the property is undergoing a large-scale, long-term preservation and restoration project for about 10 years, from 2023 to around 2033. However, both from the Room and from the bath, the view is completely different from the photos provided by IKYU—only gray temporary fencing is visible. It may be my fault for making a Reservation without carefully noticing the property’s hidden notice on IKYU’s site. Still, I book around 20 nights a year through IKYU and have relied on it regularly. If the view from the Room and bath will be significantly different for as long as 10 years, shouldn’t the photos be updated? I was disappointed because I trusted and used IKYU’s travel site. The food was very delicious.

    A Very Comfortable Stay

    I have stayed here many times. Although it is an older Accommodation, the Room and baths are always kept very clean, which makes for a very pleasant stay. The staff are attentive and considerate while maintaining a comfortable sense of distance—truly a wonderful Accommodation. The early-summer dishes this time were also delicious. They looked refreshing and beautifully presented. I would love to visit again in winter. Thank you very much.

    Five female colleagu...

    Five female colleagues from the company we joined as new graduates 30 years ago got together for a one-night, two-day trip and stayed here. The Room was very spacious and clean, and we were able to relax comfortably. We were a little worried whether five women in our 60s could finish dinner, but we enjoyed small portions of delicious dishes and everyone finished everything. The seasoning was refined, and the seasonal menu was just right for us, though it might feel a bit light for younger guests. Because dinner was served in the Room, we could talk to our hearts’ content without worrying about other guests. The coffee in the lounge after dinner and the complimentary ice cream service were also wonderful. We also requested a change to our breakfast time on the morning of our stay, and you kindly accommodated us—thank you very much. Since it was our first reunion in a long time, when we were taking photos, a staff member offered to help and took pictures for us, which became many great memories. At Asukaso, all of the staff were full of hospitality, and we had a very comfortable stay. Thank you very much. If I have another chance to visit Nara, I would love to stay again.

    I was satisfied with everything.

    Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, and the dishes were served at just the right times, so we were truly satisfied. They also upgraded us to a larger, higher-grade Room, which allowed us to relax. On the second day, they kindly kept our car for us while we went sightseeing in Nara, which was very helpful. This is a Hotel we would like to stay at again. Thank you very much.

    Every staff member is polite and kind!

    I stayed here first with friends and this time with my family. Every staff member is polite and speaks kindly, so I always have a comfortable stay. It’s also convenient being close to Naramachi and other sightseeing spots, and it was very helpful that they let us keep our car parked for a while after check-out. Breakfast was delicious, including the tea rice porridge! I’d love to stay again.

    A welcoming Ryokan with delicious meals

    We stayed with five people, and the Room was very spacious and comfortable. We were also able to have a friend who couldn’t stay overnight relax in the Room until late in the evening. Since we booked well in advance, we were able to stay at a very reasonable rate, and breakfast was served in a private room—an attentive and delicious meal starting with tea rice porridge. We had previously stayed with five people at a Ryokan in Ako and were disappointed for the price, but everyone was very happy here. It was unfortunate that we couldn’t see Kofuku-ji’s pagoda due to Reiwa-era restoration work, but we said we’d like to come again once the repairs are finished if everyone is still doing well. Thank you very much.

    Healing Accommodation

    Once again, it was a wonderful stay that helped melt away the fatigue of everyday life. From the moment you step into the Accommodation, a calm atmosphere welcomes you, allowing you to spend time at a relaxed pace. This time, thanks to your kindness, our Room was upgraded, and we thoroughly enjoyed the spacious guest room and large bath. The meals were full of seasonal flavors—beautifully presented and truly satisfying in taste. At the rooftop lounge, we were able to spend a peaceful time while taking in the views of Nara. It was a little disappointing that restoration work is underway on the five-story pagoda, but spending time gazing at the roof of Hokuen-do Hall and reflecting on the statues of Muchaku and Seshin was exceptional—and above all, Nara’s signature tranquility was simply wonderful. The staff’s thoughtful yet unobtrusive hospitality was also very comforting, and we had another pleasant stay. This is an Accommodation I would gladly recommend to my younger brother and his wife, who love traveling. It was a stay that reminded us once again of the charm of historic Nara. We would love to return. Thank you very much.

    It’s difficult to evaluate.

    As it was priced at a holiday rate, I felt the cost performance was not very good in terms of the guest room, Facility, and bath. The staff were generally polite, but there was a clear contrast between those who worked with genuine enthusiasm and those who did not. There was one mishap that made me question whether this is acceptable for the hospitality industry; some staff offered a courteous apology while others were unfriendly, which makes it difficult to judge whether my stay was comfortable.

    We were very satisfied.

    We stayed as a family and were able to relax and enjoy a comfortable stay. The meals were delicious, and we could take our time in both the large public bath and the open-air bath. The staff were courteous and attentive, which made our stay very pleasant. Thank you very much.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    Since we head out early for trekking, breakfast included can sometimes go uneaten, so this time we stayed in a Room with a kitchen and washing machine, without meals. For dinner, the front desk made a Reservation for us and recommended a great restaurant. The trekking also worked out well with clear weather between rain showers, so it was a relaxing and enjoyable trip.

    A Welcoming Accommodation

    I was deeply moved by the hospitality of the Ryokan staff. In an age where efficiency and cost performance are often prioritized, their service showed that they truly value heartfelt hospitality and take pride in their Ryokan. It was a pity that the baths were separated, but we visited as three generations and it became a memorable trip.

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

    First, the Accommodation’s location, surrounded by Nara’s famous sights, is outstanding. Next, the Room and bath Facilities are functional and very clean. The thoughtful design and maintenance, along with the staff’s attentive care, reflect high-quality management. Finally, the meals. They were high-quality in a traditional Nara-style Japanese cuisine, exactly as expected. It was a pity that Kofuku-ji Temple’s five-story pagoda—normally visible from the bath—was sadly covered by a temporary protective roof. Once the restoration work is finished, I’d like to visit again. Thank you very much.

    The meals are delicious.

    Both dinner and breakfast were very delicious. The Room was spacious and clean. In the morning, I woke up to the sound of the bell at Kofuku-ji Temple. It was a great Accommodation in a convenient location for getting anywhere. The service was excellent and I would like to give 5 stars, but it was disappointing that the open-air bath felt closed off, perhaps due to privacy screens. The selection of souvenirs had great taste.

    Excellent!!

    It’s an excellent location for sightseeing—you can relax with a drink while watching deer walk by from your Room, or take a stroll around Sanjo Street and the surrounding area. The Room was very clean, and it was a wonderfully luxurious stay.

    They were very kind.

    Thank you for taking care of us for three days. We really appreciated you kindly looking up information about the Omizutori ceremony and the rental bicycles. Thank you very much. We enjoyed exploring Nara so much that we didn’t spend much time at the Hotel, which was a bit of a shame. Next time, we’d like to stay again and enjoy a trip where we can relax and take it easy in the Room, while staying healthy and well. Thank you very much.

    A perfectly balanced accommodation.

    I chose this Accommodation because it’s just a few minutes’ walk from Kofuku-ji Temple and Naramachi, and it offers parking as well as a large public bath and an open-air bath. They kindly allowed me to park even before check-in (free during my stay), and also recommended the complimentary lobby drink service, so I could take a break before heading out sightseeing. The staff’s smiles, fresh flowers arranged in the hallways and restrooms, and the complimentary ice cream were all thoughtful touches! It’s not flashy, but it’s clean and well-balanced in many ways. If I had to mention one downside, perhaps due to renovation work on Kofuku-ji’s five-story pagoda, privacy netting blocked the view from the open-air bath.

    I stayed in a Room that was renovated in 2025. The Room was very spacious and clean, and I had a very comfortable stay. The Room had a ReFa hair dryer, and there were two washbasins, which was great. Unfortunately, since Kofuku-ji’s five-story pagoda is under construction, there was no view from the open-air bath in the large public bath. All of the staff provided very pleasant service. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    All of the staff were very kind.

    Both the Room and the food were wonderful, and every staff member we met was incredibly kind. Even those we don’t usually have the chance to meet, such as the housekeeping team, greeted us warmly and made us feel energized as well. My elderly father was traveling with us, so we moved at a slower pace and our meal also took longer than usual, but the staff kindly adjusted to our timing and spoke to us gently, which helped my father relax and enjoy his meal. We’re already checking our schedule to see when we can visit again. Thank you in advance for your continued hospitality.

    Perfect for solo travelers, girls’ trips, group getaways, and family vacations—highly recommended for everyone!!

    It was a wonderful trip to Nara!! The hotel is close to the station, and as soon as you step outside, there’s Sarusawa Pond and adorable deer. They really do just wander around… haha… Kofuku-ji Temple (a World Heritage site) is right nearby! Gango-ji, Naramachi for street food, Todai-ji, and more. We could even walk to the Nara Rurie illumination—absolutely satisfying. The location is unbeatable!! After arriving, we left our luggage and relaxed in the lobby with a drink. There were also Nara guidebooks available. We were lucky enough to receive a Room upgrade—thank you so much. I highly recommend the Residence Room. Perfect not only for couples, but especially for Multiple Night Stay guests, group trips, and family travel! A spacious sofa, two large TVs, and a clean Room. A ReFa hair dryer and Simmons bed as well—I think you can truly relax in comfort. The meals were outstanding too. A delicate and delicious dinner that makes you want sake. A gentle breakfast of tea porridge served in beautiful dishes. The fluffy rolled omelet had such a mild flavor—everything was delicious!! After all that walking, Onsen beats an in-room bath every time! It’s a bit small, but Onsen really is essential. So soothing. Above all, the staff were kind and smiling; their perfect sense of distance made our stay comfortable and pleasant. Asukaso… I want to recommend it to everyone. Thank you very much for everything.

    A calm, relaxing atmosphere

    I wasn’t familiar with Nara, but the location was excellent and very convenient for getting anywhere. This time, our Room had a terrace with a direct view of the five-story pagoda right in front of us, but it was under renovation at the moment, which was a bit disappointing. The Room was clean, spacious, and very comfortable. All of the staff were also very kind and helpful. We only had breakfast, but it was carefully prepared Japanese cuisine and everything was delicious. Next time, I’d like to try dinner as well. Nara is a wonderful city too, so I’d love to visit again. Thank you very much.

    A Pleasant Hotel

    This Hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of Kintetsu Nara Station, right in front of Kofuku-ji Temple. The staff were cheerful, very pleasant, and kind, making our stay comfortable. It was also a nice surprise to find out the bath was an Onsen, which we didn’t know at the time of Reservation. From our Room we could see Kofuku-ji Temple straight ahead, but the pagoda was covered for repairs, which was the only disappointment. We heard the cover will be removed in 2034, so we’ll be back.

    This is an Accommodation I would like to visit again.

    A great location facing Sarusawa Pond, convenient for sightseeing in Nara, wonderful hospitality from the staff, and a delicious chagayu (tea porridge) breakfast—everything was excellent. We stayed in one of the new Rooms; it was more than spacious enough, and the Facility was convenient and very comfortable. Since it was winter, the large public bath felt a bit cold, but the bath in our Room was comfortable so it didn’t bother us. We used it for a family trip, and my parents were delighted as well. We would love to visit again. Thank you for taking such good care of us.

    It was cold, though...

    We stayed here with my mother, sister, and daughter (four of us) to celebrate my retirement. Thank you very much for upgrading us to a larger Room! There were chairs as well, so we could relax comfortably. The meals were just as the Reviews said—everything was delicious, and each piece of tableware was beautiful, making the dishes look wonderful too. The brown sugar pudding for dessert was unbelievably good. Breakfast also offered a variety of small dishes, and we were completely full. Of course, it was delicious. The women’s large public bath was smaller than I expected, but some guests happened to be leaving at the right time, so the four of us had it all to ourselves! We could really unwind. The hot water felt great. Everything was wonderful overall, but if I had to mention one thing, the heater noise bothered me during the night and woke me up a few times. Since it was a cold day, it was hard to adjust the temperature. The service was also excellent. It’s close to the shopping street and there’s even a Starbucks (lol), so it turned into a great trip.     A Satisfying Accommodation

    I started looking for an Accommodation because I wanted to see the Wakakusa Mountain Yamayaki and fireworks at least once. I chose this place right away because it’s within walking distance from the station, near Sarusawa Pond, and has a great reputation for delicious meals. On the day, the staff gave us disposable hand warmers, and we were able to enjoy the event from the rooftop—an unforgettable memory. The Room had a balcony, but unfortunately it was too cold to use it. It’s an Accommodation that makes me want to come back—I’d love to stay again during cherry blossom season. Thank you for your hospitality.
