The in-room Onsen is very good.

I made a Reservation for a Room with a rock bath. The Room is a bit dated, but it was spacious enough and I was able to relax comfortably. A highly responsive thermometer was installed in the bath, making it easy to adjust the temperature, so I could set it to my liking and enjoy a very comfortable soak. Meals were served in semi-private dining, so I could take my time and enjoy them. The service was also just right—not too close or too distant—and very good. If I had one request, I would have liked coffee in the Room.

A Guestroom Semi-Open-Air Rock Bath That Will Surprise You with Its Size

I have visited the Izu Nagaoka Onsen many times because of its excellent water quality, but this was my first stay at Ishinoya. I was really looking forward to it because I had heard the rock bath in the guest Room was very large. When I actually saw it, I was surprised—it was as big as a public bath. I love the Onsen in Izu Nagaoka because they always leave my skin feeling smooth. All of the meals were delicious and beautifully presented, and the service was wonderful. We were able to dine calmly in a private room. The portions felt slightly small for me since I don’t drink alcohol. All of the staff were friendly and welcoming with warm smiles. The Room had beds, chairs and a table, plus a sofa, and the air conditioning worked well so it was very comfortable. The amenities were more than sufficient, and we lacked nothing. The courtyard was also lovely, with a pond where impressive koi swam, a footbath, and an area for drinking Onsen water. The plants were well cared for too. Going up and down the stone steps didn’t bother us since we had good weather. We also appreciated the complimentary drinks in the lobby and having coffee served after breakfast rather than self-service. There are many wonderful Accommodation options in the Izu Nagaoka area, but this one has become a favorite for us as a couple. Thank you very much for everything.

    Thank you for your support.

This was my first stay at Ishinoya. The Room was in a detached-style layout, and when moving to the large public bath and other areas, I could forget everyday life while watching the koi—truly a wonderful time. Thank you very much. Thank you as well to all the staff for your kindness. Breakfast and dinner were both delicious, and I was very satisfied. Each dish was carefully prepared, with perfect presentation and flavor—five stars. Thank you, Chef. I would love to visit again.

Choosing the right Room is important for a comfortable stay.

I stayed in the Aizu Room. Although it’s described as an old building, it dates from the 1970s and feels like an older private home. There was a distinctive smell like when visiting a grandmother’s house. The walls and ceiling are painted black, so the lighting is dim and it’s hard to see details. There were no insects or mice, and there were air purifiers in each room, but the smell bothered me. My wife didn’t mind it at all, so I may just be sensitive. The hospitality was very good. The meals were good as well, and the service during dining was also excellent.

It was my first time visiting Izunagaoka.

This was my first time visiting Izunagaoka. The Hotel is set within a garden, and the atmosphere was pleasant. However, the garden could not be seen at all from the Room, and because the open-air bath was enclosed by walls, there was no view to enjoy. First, the woman handling arrivals at the driveway was far too businesslike and left a poor impression. The foreign staff were helpful. The younger staff during meals explained the dishes accurately and politely, but conversation did not go beyond that, and everything felt rather matter-of-fact. We could only choose a 17:30 dinner time slot, which was too early. Izunagaoka itself felt completely run-down and not like a place where you could enjoy an Onsen town atmosphere.

The bath and the meals were both excellent.

This was my repeat stay, and this time I chose the rock bath. It was spacious and the water was absolutely wonderful. As always, the meals were outstanding—perhaps on the smaller side, but just the right amount for me. I was also surprised that the female staff member during dinner understood Japanese culture even better than many Japanese people. I’d love to come back and see you again. On the other hand, compared with before, it’s a shame that the front desk service seems weaker now. Is it due to that day’s staffing rotation? Or perhaps a labor shortage? Every industry needs more staff these days, but I’ll be back again—please keep up the good work.

Delicious meals and a relaxing Onsen

I decided to visit on short notice. The building is old, but it has been renovated and, above all, felt very clean. Perhaps because some Rooms have a bathroom with Onsen water, the large public bath was quiet; I was able to enjoy the open-air bath all to myself and relax. I also enjoyed the Onsen in my Room even late at night. And the meals! Beautiful to look at and delicious—truly satisfying. The staff were wonderful as well, making it a comfortable and pleasant one-night, two-day stay.

We had a wonderful family trip.

We’ve visited Izu countless times as a couple, but this was our first stay at a Ryokan with a child under two. Having an open-air bath in the Room was also a deciding factor. There were some areas where the staff seemed inexperienced (for example, despite traveling with a child, at check-in we were told dinner was only available in the second seating starting at 7:00 p.m., even though we checked in before 4:00 p.m.). However, they responded properly afterward by moving the time earlier. Since they had the information in advance, I think it would have been better if they had contacted us beforehand by phone or email. The meals aren’t at the level of an Accommodation that prides itself on cuisine, but they were more than sufficient. They also prepared plenty of food for our child. The beef dishes were especially delicious, and the fish was good as well. They also served coffee in the morning. The open-air bath attached to the Room uses a circulation system, and adjusting the temperature takes a bit of time. It can’t really be helped. The indoor bath was fed directly from the hot spring source. The Room was thoroughly cleaned, and there were no unhygienic issues like some Reviews mention—at least we didn’t notice any. They provided plenty of yukata and other items, including for children. There are some ups and downs when moving around inside the building, and since reception is up on a slope, it is indeed slightly inconvenient to drive up once with your family and luggage and then go back down to park. Still, it wasn’t bothersome enough to matter much. There’s also a convenience store nearby. Above all, this place has an excellent location close to Sea Paradise and Mentaiko Park. When traveling with kids you have to be mindful about getting around, so being able to save time on travel is a big plus.

Shower water pressure in the Room bathroom

The staff provided very courteous and attentive service.\n The meals were delicious, with an appropriate portion size, and the dishes were explained clearly and in good timing.\n If I had to mention one thing, having some of the food already set out before we sat down gave it a banquet-style impression. It may be extra work, but I think it would be better to serve everything after guests are seated—especially since the quality of the cuisine is high.\n Regarding dessert, serving a Mont Blanc cake in a monaka wafer might suit something with more moisture inside, such as ice cream. Even with just a small bite of the filling and wafer together, it felt quite dry; eating it “in one big bite,” as recommended, seemed rather difficult.\n Also, the shower in the in-room bathroom had extremely weak water pressure—more like a watering can. The hot spring source water and regular water used to fill the bathtub had stronger pressure. Even if there is a public bath, many guests choose this property specifically to enjoy Onsen in their Room baths. In particular here, reaching the public bath requires walking through an outdoor garden path with steps.\n It seems to have been about 10 years since rebranding, but signs of wear are noticeable throughout the interior. Replacing walls or tatami would be a major project; however, items like broken blinds on the bath window should be easy to replace.\n Finally, the bed was unusually soft. Both the springs and the mattress topper were so soft that my body sank excessively.\n I think switching to firmer bedding would be better.

    Bathroom

From the photos on the website, I couldn’t tell how large the Room’s open-air bath was, but I was surprised at how big it was. It felt almost too spacious for two people.

    Thank you very much.

Our previous stay in the Mino Room was wonderful. Since our main purpose was the private open-air bath in the guest room, it was truly perfect. We couldn’t finish all of our dinner, so they kindly made rice balls for us, which we enjoyed later as a late-night snack. The 12:00 check-out Plan also allowed us to relax and enjoy the Onsen after breakfast, and it was incredibly soothing. We would love to stay again. Thank you very much.

    What’s so good about it...?

I’m not sure why, but why was there no support on the uphill slope from the parking lot to the entrance? There was no greeting, and even though it was raining when we left, once we checked out that was it. They seemed indifferent even as I walked down the slippery slope in the rain holding an umbrella and carrying luggage, so it felt like business-hotel-level service. The meals were also uninspiring across the board. The staff explanations were matter-of-fact as well. The tea soba served at breakfast in particular lacked care. I heard staff telling guests on both sides during breakfast service, “Refills of miso soup and coffee service,” but I wasn’t told—was that due to a difference in Plan? Since there were many inbound travelers, do they consider “good enough” Japanese food acceptable? Even at the front desk, I wish they had handled things more calmly. Overall, this stay left me with low satisfaction.

We stayed here to celebrate my son’s birthday. Overall, we were satisfied and had no issues with the Room quality. However, although we informed you in advance about food allergies, there was no explanation or guidance regarding allergens—neither for the aosana seaweed rice crackers provided in the Room nor during meals. I noticed some items only by checking the food myself. Is it your standard practice not to provide much explanation or support regarding allergies? I ate the aosana seaweed rice crackers in the Room without checking the ingredient label on the back. After returning from the Ryokan, I had a sore throat. When I checked the ingredients afterward to confirm what I had eaten, shrimp was listed. This made me wonder why there was no explanation, so I decided to leave this Review. I made this Reservation believing you would provide service appropriate for the price, so I was disappointed. I would appreciate it if you could address this properly.

    This was my second s...

This was my second stay. This time I chose the “Arida” guest room (with an open-air rock bath) and a Plan that includes kaiseki served in the Room. As with my previous visit, the service, Facility, and hospitality made me want to return again. The morning rock bath was especially memorable. The in-room rock bath is enclosed with wooden panels, but sunlight streams through the gaps in thin beams, and the Onsen steam creates a gently shimmering mosaic in that light. I have been staying at Onsen Accommodations for over 40 years, and I have never seen anything like it—an outstanding design, with truly radiant morning light. It even made me feel this would be a good year (in fact, despite major transportation disruptions caused by this season’s strongest cold wave starting from my stay—somehow I got through them all; especially the next day on the JR Utsunomiya Line, which was in terrible shape—yet everything worked out). Last time I came by public transportation from Izunokuni-Nagaoka; this time I came from Numazu. When using public transportation there are time constraints, so on both trips I had to leave about two hours before check-out. Next time I’d like to come by car and enjoy as much time at the Accommodation as possible.

    Thank you very much.

This was my second visit. This time, I enjoyed a different open-air rock bath. The previous one was great, but this one was even better! The large open-air bath was perfect for this cold season. With the Plan available until 12:00, I could relax and enjoy my bath time thoroughly. Thank you very much!

    A Relaxing Accommodation

Even with the building rattling all night due to strong winds, and sirens from emergency transports to the nearby university hospital sounding throughout the night, this Ryokan offers a beautiful seasonal garden, spacious rooms with open-air baths, indoor baths filled with the scent of cypress, and delicious meals. It's a place where you can relax, read books at your leisure, and enjoy countless DVDs even late into the night. One of my favorite Ryokans that I would love to visit during significant milestones in my life. I hope to visit again in different seasons I haven't experienced yet. For our 30th wedding anniversary and birthday celebration, we chose this accommodation because we didn't want any disappointments. Although I embarrassingly mentioned it during the Reservation process, none of the staff acknowledged it (;_;) If you're planning a commemorative trip, another accommodation might be better suited for such occasions. The next day at another first-time accommodation we stayed at, they greeted us warmly with celebratory words that almost brought tears of joy to my eyes.

    Accommodation with Thoughtful Hospitality

Our family stayed at Ishinoya for the first time. One of our members used a cane, but we were deeply touched by the thoughtful care provided from check-in throughout our stay, making it a very pleasant and comfortable experience. We are truly grateful for the exceptional hospitality. With gardens featuring various types of stone and a wide range of room styles, I believe this accommodation can be enjoyed multiple times without losing its charm. The meals were delicious; however, on the second day of our multiple night stay, we felt that the dishes could have been more creative or special. The whole blackthroat seaperch dish was visually underwhelming and lacked flavor, which was slightly disappointing. Above all else, what left the strongest impression was how every staff member—especially our assigned attendant—went out of their way to ensure we had an excellent stay. Thanks to their efforts, we had a wonderful time. Thank you very much!

    Completely Satisfied

I visited again following my stay in September. The baths and meals here are exceptional, making it impossible not to return. Dinner is kaiseki-style with a French twist, offering delightful variations each time. For breakfast, the grilled mackerel was so delicious that I ended up eating too much rice. I used to visit Hakone often in the past, but since discovering this place, I've been coming back almost every year. Next time, I hope to visit in spring!

    Relax in a Japanese Garden

I sometimes visit Izunokuni City in winter to buy strawberries, and this time I stayed at Ishinoya in Izu-Nagaoka Onsen as well. The Japanese garden that opens up after check-in at the front desk was especially impressive. The Room also had a private Onsen, and the spacious tatami Room was very comfortable. Some Reviews mentioned an unpleasant smell, but it didn’t bother us that much. The Onsen was free-flowing from the source, towels were provided in the large public bath, the staff were courteous, and the food was delicious. However, getting from our Room to the large public bath and dining area involved a lot of stairs up and down, which my mother found inconvenient, and she also wished there had been at least one dish that really stood out in her memory. Although the building is old-fashioned, it was well cleaned throughout, and we appreciated how they accommodated our requests. I hope to visit again someday.

    Perfect for a private retreat.

The staff were all cheerful and welcoming, making my stay very pleasant. Thank you. The food was delicious, and the large public bath was clean and well-maintained. Additionally, I appreciated the thoughtful touch of having both cold and room-temperature bottled water available in the changing area of the public bath. The rock bath in the Room was absolutely amazing. It was very spacious, allowing me to relax fully and feel completely rejuvenated. I spent most of my time in the Room enjoying the rock bath. I would love to stay here again.

The indoor bath in the room had a soothing scent of cypress, and the open-air bath was spacious and amazing! Girls' Trip

We stayed with four friends. Since we couldn't reserve one room for four people, we booked two rooms, but meals were served in the same room as in-room dining. The room had a private hot spring bath, and we also used the large public bath. We hardly encountered other guests and were able to relax very much. The amenities were of high quality, which was very satisfying. We would love to stay again if we have the chance!

Satisfied with the rock bath in the Room, enjoyed it multiple times.

The public bath and dining area might be a bit challenging to access in rainy weather due to the ups and downs, requiring an umbrella and careful footing. However, we were fortunate to have good weather and enjoyed our stay without any issues. The public bath had a slight chlorine smell, which was a bit disappointing, but the in-room rock bath was spacious and excellent, making it unnecessary to visit the public bath. Unlimited drinking water is available, along with vending machines for convenience. The meals were slightly insufficient in quantity for our family but simple and delicious.

    The cypress bath is exceptional.

The hinoki bath was my first experience, and the fragrance was amazing, completely relieving my fatigue. However, there were no grab bars or places to hold onto in the bathroom, which are necessary for elderly guests; I hope these can be installed. The meals were satisfying, and the staff's service was excellent, allowing me to enjoy a very comfortable stay at the accommodation.

    A peaceful Onsen town

Surrounded by nature, just a 5-minute walk to the panoramic park with stunning views of Mt. Fuji. Highly recommended for its peaceful atmosphere and charming old Onsen town, perfect for those who prefer to avoid crowded places. The room is spacious with an amazing private open-air bath. Delicious meals and outstanding service from the staff make this accommodation worth revisiting. Being a small-scale accommodation, the personalized attention is truly impressive, showcasing Japanese hospitality. Although it is an older accommodation, it is well-maintained. The room may feel slightly humid due to the private open-air bath, but everything else offers a five-star experience or more. Thank you very much!

All rooms are detached, offering a highly satisfying Onsen accommodation.

The staff's hospitality was exceptional, allowing us to experience the meticulous service unique to Japanese Onsen. The property, spanning 2,000 tsubo, features detached-style guest rooms, offering a sense of charm and exclusivity with a truly wonderful concept. Unique services such as foot baths and drinkable Onsen, along with thoughtful touches in the lobby facility, provided enjoyable experiences beyond just the guest rooms and Onsen. Located about two hours from central Tokyo, with excellent access to tourist spots like Shuzenji, it is an ideal destination for a weekend trip. The complimentary Shuttle Service to the station was also incredibly helpful.
