Satisfied with the rock bath in the Room, enjoyed it multiple times.

The public bath and dining area might be a bit challenging to access in rainy weather due to the ups and downs, requiring an umbrella and careful footing. However, we were fortunate to have good weather and enjoyed our stay without any issues. The public bath had a slight chlorine smell, which was a bit disappointing, but the in-room rock bath was spacious and excellent, making it unnecessary to visit the public bath. Unlimited drinking water is available, along with vending machines for convenience. The meals were slightly insufficient in quantity for our family but simple and delicious.

    The cypress bath is exceptional.

The hinoki bath was my first experience, and the fragrance was amazing, completely relieving my fatigue. However, there were no grab bars or places to hold onto in the bathroom, which are necessary for elderly guests; I hope these can be installed. The meals were satisfying, and the staff's service was excellent, allowing me to enjoy a very comfortable stay at the accommodation.

    A peaceful Onsen town

Surrounded by nature, just a 5-minute walk to the panoramic park with stunning views of Mt. Fuji. Highly recommended for its peaceful atmosphere and charming old Onsen town, perfect for those who prefer to avoid crowded places. The room is spacious with an amazing private open-air bath. Delicious meals and outstanding service from the staff make this accommodation worth revisiting. Being a small-scale accommodation, the personalized attention is truly impressive, showcasing Japanese hospitality. Although it is an older accommodation, it is well-maintained. The room may feel slightly humid due to the private open-air bath, but everything else offers a five-star experience or more. Thank you very much!

All rooms are detached, offering a highly satisfying Onsen accommodation.

The staff's hospitality was exceptional, allowing us to experience the meticulous service unique to Japanese Onsen. The property, spanning 2,000 tsubo, features detached-style guest rooms, offering a sense of charm and exclusivity with a truly wonderful concept. Unique services such as foot baths and drinkable Onsen, along with thoughtful touches in the lobby facility, provided enjoyable experiences beyond just the guest rooms and Onsen. Located about two hours from central Tokyo, with excellent access to tourist spots like Shuzenji, it is an ideal destination for a weekend trip. The complimentary Shuttle Service to the station was also incredibly helpful.

Enjoy the open-air bath in your Room.

After retiring, I switched to working half the month and started a journey to enjoy Onsen at accommodations with open-air baths near the Kanto region. Three years have passed since then. This time, I chose Ishinoya to fully experience the soft waters of Izu Nagaoka Onsen. The open-air bath was more spacious than expected, set at 40 degrees Celsius. During my stay, I bathed four times and found it neither too lukewarm nor too hot, allowing me to stretch out and relax in the water comfortably. My skin also felt smoother afterward. The meals were made with gentle ingredients for the body, served in just the right portions, and were deliciously satisfying. If given another opportunity, I would love to visit again!

    Considering the price

A long-awaited trip with my mother. We chose a Room Dining Plan to relax, but the sound of placing dishes during serving, footsteps in the room, and conversations between staff were not very pleasant. The food also had fish bones in the sashimi and grilled dishes several times, and there were long hairs scattered around the room. Considering the price, I felt the service was not satisfactory.

    A Last-Minute Accommodation

Suddenly wanting to visit an Onsen, we made a last-minute decision. We went as a family of three, and although our son has allergies, they accommodated us even on such short notice. We were very grateful for this. The Onsen felt almost like a private experience, allowing us to relax at our own pace. We also enjoyed the hot water in the Room. Since we couldn’t make it in time for dinner, we didn’t have it, but breakfast was very delicious. There were no amenities in the bath area; however, when I asked at the lobby if they had hair ties as I spontaneously decided to stop by the Onsen before heading back home, they kindly provided me with a shower cap too. This was very helpful since I washed my hair in the Room. In our Room, we watched "Jumanji" on DVD borrowed from the lobby. Although I fell asleep halfway through, my son loved it so much that he watched its sequel after returning home! The bed was soft and comfortable for a good night’s sleep. At the lobby, we enjoyed iced coffee and also purchased some ice cream there. You can drink Onsen water near the footbath just outside of the lobby entrance; we tried it several times during our stay. While I’ve never done an Onsen water tasting before and can’t compare flavors well, it had a pleasant taste that was easy to drink!

    It was a fantastic stay.

The private open-air bath in the guest room was absolutely amazing. The spacious open-air bath felt as relaxing as a large public bath. Of course, the meals were also incredibly delicious. For dinner, the rice we couldn't finish was kindly made into rice balls for us. The seaweed paired perfectly with the rice. I hope to visit again within this year. Thank you!

    It was a relaxing accommodation.

I stayed in a room with a semi-open-air rock bath. There were no complaints, so I will only comment on the points I found particularly good. - The semi-open-air bath in the room allows for water adjustment. - There are three air purifiers in the room. - In addition to yukata, there are samue outfits available. - There is a footbath. - A Yogibo is placed in the room. - The heart-finding activity was fun (find all four hearts within the facility and receive sweets). - Bottled water is available even in the dressing area of the large public bath. - Towels are everywhere: at the footbath, large public bath, and plenty in the room as well. - Amenities are well-stocked. - High-end hair dryers (Dyson, ReFa) are provided. - For breakfast grilled fish, you can choose between horse mackerel or mackerel; horse mackerel was large. It was a one-night stay this time, but it’s an accommodation where I’d like to relax for two nights next time!

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

It was a very lovely accommodation! The meals, especially the fish, were incredibly delicious and satisfying. The room and the large public bath were clean and provided a relaxing atmosphere. However, during the initial guidance, I felt slightly uncomfortable when the hotel staff entered the room. Also, the shuttle service was delayed because they waited for someone who was late for check-out, causing me to miss my train. I hope this can be improved in such situations. Overall though, it was a great experience, and I would love to stay again!

    Expect improvements in accommodation operations.

The hot spring, meals, and customer service were excellent (the natural hot spring was especially amazing, and the staff serving meals provided great service!). Up until the shuttle service departure time, everything was perfect, and I was fully planning to return soon. However!! What happened afterward was very disappointing. I am writing this review in hopes that improvements can be made in the future. We were waiting in the lobby 10 minutes before the scheduled shuttle bus departure time... but even when it was time to leave, there were no signs of departure. Feeling uneasy, we asked about it and were told that "another group is running late with their check-out; please wait." We explained that we would miss our train if delayed further but ended up waiting for about 20 minutes (and indeed missed our intended train). To make matters worse, it turned out that this other group did not even require a shuttle! We were left wondering why we had been made to wait at all. When the bus finally departed, this same group requested help carrying their luggage outside. The driver (who also worked as reception staff) had to step out of the vehicle to assist them... leaving us utterly dumbfounded! It became clear during our conversation on board that "reception and shuttle services are managed by one person," which explained why things couldn't proceed smoothly. However, such details should have been communicated earlier when delays occurred. In similar situations at other accommodations I've stayed at before, they would arrange a taxi at their expense as a courtesy for guests affected by delays like these. If having only one person manage both roles is unavoidable due to staffing constraints, perhaps granting them more discretion or authority could help address such issues better in real-time. While I understand this situation may have been unexpected for your team—and sympathize with those involved—I believe addressing these concerns will allow your accommodation to handle similar cases more flexibly moving forward. As they say: "All's well that ends well." It would be wonderful if every detail could be taken care of until guests' final moments with you so they leave completely satisfied. Thank you very much for hosting us during our stay!

    Solo travel.

Stayed on the 2nd floor "Kasama." Honestly, I was torn between this and the spacious room with an open-air bath on the 1st floor. Opening the window of the private bath in the 2nd-floor Room, gazing at the blue sky, and soaking in lukewarm water adjusted to my preference was absolutely wonderful! The staff were all warm and welcoming, which made me very happy. Thank you so much!

The open-air bath in the Room is excellent.

The guest rooms are located within a spacious property. Please note that you will need to use stone stairs for access. Elderly guests are recommended to request a Room near the front desk. Surrounded by nature, the open-air baths are equipped with fine mesh nets to prevent insects, ensuring a comfortable experience.

Spacious indoor Onsen with open-air bath (Hinoki wood) was very satisfying. The garden is splendid, but the stairs to move from the Room to the large public bath and dining area might be challenging for elderly guests. I would like to visit again while I am still physically fit.

    Had too high expectations.

This was my first stay. The building felt like stepping back into the Showa era, and upon entering the room, I thought it was a bit dim. There was also a smell of dampness. The bathroom in the guest room was spacious, allowing for a relaxing bath. What I found disappointing: Only green tea teabags were provided in the guest room. It would be much more convenient if Japanese tea or a coffee machine were available. As for meals: The content felt insufficient and quite underwhelming. Although it was served in-room, the selection of alcoholic beverages seemed limited; certain drinks could only be ordered if dining at the restaurant instead of in-room service. Additionally, there appeared to be many options such as seafood or Western-style dishes that could be ordered from outside sources, which seemed popular among other guests. What surprised me: Neither dinner nor breakfast included even one serving of tea; at least some tea would have been appreciated. This is the first accommodation I've stayed at where no tea was served with meals. For both dinner and breakfast: Miso soup came in a pot but wasn’t enough for two servings per person. Rice came in an insulated container but didn’t include extra portions for refills either. Additionally, one foreign staff member clearing tables hummed while working?? It also seemed like they didn’t sweep tables after clearing them. While having individual rooms per building is nice: There are many stairs throughout, making it challenging for those with mobility issues—especially if it's raining outside. Overall: I felt that everything did not match up to its price point this time around. I hope hospitality services can improve moving forward. I had high expectations due to good reviews but ended up disappointed overall.

    Two nights with my grandchild

We stayed for 2 nights with our grandchild and daughter’s family, making a group of five. The meals were delicious and the portions were sufficient. The bath in the room was an Onsen, and although the public bath was small, it was clean. The Onsen warmed us to the core. The room was well-cleaned and comfortable, though slightly dim. The stone stairs outside might be a bit challenging for elderly guests. All the staff were friendly. We would love to stay here again!

    It was a good accommodation.

This was my first time staying at this accommodation in Nagaoka after a long time. The attention to detail and customer service were outstanding. While the aging of the building itself is unavoidable, everything else about this accommodation was excellent. Dinner was very satisfying in both quantity and taste, and the dried fish served at breakfast was exceptional. I requested fatty horse mackerel and mackerel, and both were absolutely delicious. In a way, breakfast might have been the most memorable part of my stay. If I may suggest one improvement: I stayed on the first floor this time, but the footsteps from guests on the second floor were quite loud and distracting. That’s my only concern!

    Bedding, Bedroom

The room was comfortable, but there were cobwebs in the bedroom. When we woke up in the morning, both my spouse and I had insect bites (possibly mites?). My eyelids were severely swollen, and I also had multiple bites on my cheeks, arms, and neck. My spouse had multiple bites on his legs, arms, and hands. The itching was unbearable, so we ended up going to the hospital. Considering the accommodation fee was quite high, it was a bit disappointing; however, everything other than the bedding was excellent. The food was incredibly delicious!

An open-air bath tucked away in a corner of the garden.

The open-air bath, built by partially removing the old (stone garden), was poorly constructed and disappointing. Despite being labeled as "open-air," there was no view of the garden or sky, offering no sense of openness and resembling a large indoor bath (in addition to a smaller indoor bath). The dark wallpaper (almost black) and dim lighting seemed to be used to hide the room's wear and tear, with minimal effort put into maintaining the interior. The food tasted decent but lacked volume considering the price. The coffee and snack service corner in the lobby appeared to be a trendy addition but felt cramped and uncomfortable due to its forced placement in a small space. Lastly, regarding the garden that is supposed to be a highlight, it was disappointing that the closed-off walls around the open-air baths near guest rooms disrupted the scenic beauty created by ancient trees and large rocks surrounding it.

    It's not ideal.

This was my second stay. The building is old, but the cleaning and amenities were fine. Although it doesn't have a resort feel, I chose it because the room has a private open-air bath, is spacious, and reasonably priced. I received an email about ordering meals for an additional fee and understood that steak needed to be pre-ordered while simmered golden-eye snapper could be ordered on the day. However, it turned out both required a Reservation in advance. The response on the day was disappointing—they asked to see the email or said same-day orders were not possible. While I admit my misunderstanding, I found their attitude rude. At least they could have shown some understanding of customers willing to pay extra for meals or apologized for any confusion caused by unclear emails with words encouraging me to return next time. Instead, pointing out "it’s your mistake" left me disappointed. The taste this time was also less impressive than before; the meat was overcooked and mediocre at best. Additionally, the pathway from the indoor bath to the open-air bath in this Room felt unsafe and inconvenient. Unfortunately, there won’t be a next time for me—very disappointing overall.

    Onsen is amazing.

I made a same-day reservation on a whim and visited. The onsen in the room exceeded my expectations and was absolutely amazing. The open-air bath was great, but the indoor bath with its natural hot spring water was also wonderful. I was advised that instead of using cold water to adjust the temperature, it’s better to let it cool down naturally before entering. I’ll visit again!

The dining area is a semi-private space, perfect for solo travelers, and I enjoyed a delicious breakfast, especially the grilled mackerel. The staff greeted me warmly, making my stay very comfortable. The room's hinoki bath and the Onsen in the large public bath were also satisfying. It would be even better if hand towels and fabric freshener were provided in the room. I would definitely like to stay at this Hotel again!

An old but comfortable Onsen accommodation.

We stayed for a one-night family trip. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the room was spacious with a nostalgic feel of a traditional Onsen Ryokan. We enjoyed relaxing while taking in the view from the veranda. The meals were healthy and delicious, highlighting the natural flavors of the ingredients, and it was wonderful to have them delivered to our room for both breakfast and dinner. The private open-air bath in our room was spacious enough to fit about four adults at once. However, there were some downsides: the private open-air bath seemed to lose heat quickly (40°C upon check-in, 37°C at night, and 33°C by morning), there was a slight musty smell likely due to the age of the room, and we found a previous guest's sock next to the towel shelf in the bathroom. Other than these issues, everything else was excellent, making it a refreshing stay overall.

In addition to the large public bath, the room features both an open-air and indoor bath. You can hear the sounds of wild birds, and the spring quality is pleasantly soothing. The meals were delicious, especially the freshly grated wasabi, which was mildly spicy with a fragrant aroma—unlike anything I've tasted elsewhere. For breakfast, you could choose from various grilled fish options; I opted for grilled golden eye snapper as an extra option. It was tasty but slightly too much in portion size. The staff's hospitality left a lasting impression. This accommodation is ideal for a multiple night stay (and indeed there seemed to be guests staying multiple nights). It might be best to visit during colder seasons. I look forward to experiencing their hospitality again!

    It’s inspiring.

I usually don't pay much attention to reviews or write them myself, as I believe evaluations can vary depending on the season, timing, and personal compatibility. However, this time I had such a memorable experience that I felt compelled to share it. We visited your accommodation to celebrate my wife's birthday. My wife is left-handed, but we did not mention this in advance. During dinner, everything was naturally set up for right-handed use, which was expected and not an issue at all. We didn’t even discuss it during the meal. The surprise came the next morning at breakfast. The meal was served in a semi-private dining room (the same private room as dinner), and when we sat in the same seating arrangement as the night before, we noticed that only my wife's breakfast setting had been adjusted for left-handed use. She was deeply moved by this thoughtful gesture. For someone who has lived her life adapting to a world designed for right-handed people, this small act of consideration resonated profoundly with her. It’s true that the building itself is old and there are some inconveniences stemming from its age—such as having to climb stairs through the garden to reach our room—but these minor inconveniences are far outweighed by the exceptional hospitality offered here. Experiencing such thoughtful service alone makes staying here worthwhile. Thank you so much for taking care of us during our stay. We will definitely visit again when we travel to Izu! Looking forward to seeing you again soon!

Relax and enjoy Izu's cuisine, Onsen, and sauna in a private space.

The entire property is a large mansion with all rooms designed as separate units, allowing guests to enjoy a private space with Onsen and sauna. Meals were served in a separate building, which made for a pleasant walk through the garden within the premises. The interior was beautifully decorated with various trees and stones accompanied by explanations, creating an incredibly charming atmosphere.

One of the most comfortable Onsen Ryokan experiences in Japan. The room was spacious, the facilities were well-equipped, the Onsen was excellent, and the meals were delicious and delicate. A relaxing and nice accommodation, but please be cautious if you are bringing someone with leg or back pain. Accessing the baths and open-air baths can be challenging. There are no heartful facilities available. For those in good health, there are no issues at all.
