An accommodation you'll want to return to.

From the warm welcome upon arrival to the heartfelt farewell at departure, my stay was incredibly comfortable. The staff were all smiles and provided exceptional service. The building itself exudes history, but rather than feeling old, it offers a charming and beautifully maintained interior. Early in the morning, I happened to glance at the entrance and noticed a male staff member cleaning even hard-to-reach areas, which made me truly appreciate their attention to detail. The meals were absolutely delicious, with cooking that enhanced the quality of each ingredient. Even dishes I usually avoid turned out to be so tasty that I found myself saying, "Wow! What is this?" I ended up finishing everything on my plate with great satisfaction during both dinner and breakfast. Oh, how I wish I could have that crème brûlée dessert again! The most delightful treat was undoubtedly the view. Blessed with good weather, the sight of Ichinokurasawa in Mount Tanigawa from the lounge looked like a perfectly framed photograph; only the drifting white clouds marked time passing by. It was mesmerizing—I could have gazed at it forever. The view from our Room's private bath also offered a serene moment of beauty as we soaked in its warm waters and felt completely refreshed. Checking out felt bittersweet—it truly captured what it means to leave reluctantly behind such an unforgettable experience. I can’t wait for another chance to return!

    The private bath in ...

The private bath in the guest room was excellent. Great view, great Onsen, and spacious. However, I wondered why no one helped with carrying luggage... The water pressure of the shower and bidet was too weak. For dinner, while the main dish was unclear, both quantity and taste were good. For breakfast, the miso-grilled pork felt too heavy for a morning meal—it seemed more suitable for dinner. Even though it tasted good, it's not something I'd want to eat in the morning. The building is old, and walking alone in the hallways at night felt like being in a haunted house... but that made it fun!

    Private Onsen is excellent.

I stayed for one night and two days, but it was such a wonderful accommodation that I wanted to extend my stay. The onsen was truly amazing, allowing for a long, relaxing soak while enjoying the view. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. The building seemed old, but it was well-maintained and clean. It would be nice to have a simple map or guide for exploring the surrounding area. I would love to visit again if I have the chance.

    A Gift for Parents

We always use IKYU for family trips, but this time, I made a reservation just for my parents. After they returned, they told me it was an accommodation with a stunning view and that they had a wonderful time. They also mentioned the onsen in their room was very relaxing, and they enjoyed it multiple times. The retro-style interior and the mountain scenery created an amazing atmosphere at the ryokan, leaving them completely satisfied. As my parents are elderly, they regretted not being able to finish all the food due to its abundance but said, "Thank you for booking such a lovely accommodation," with joy. Thank you to all the staff!

Discover the charm of Minakami Onsen and experience the excellence of Hinoki no Accommodation Minakami Sansou!

Experience the unparalleled view of Tanigawa-dake's lingering snow and fresh greenery right from your room bath. The large, openable accordion-style window folds beautifully to one side, offering a breathtaking panorama like a painting. The delicate design of privacy panels ensures an unobstructed view of the clear Tanigawa stream below, making this one of the most memorable room baths among accommodations. The Onsen features natural flowing hot spring water at a soothing temperature that relaxes both body and mind. Rare and drinkable natural Onsen water enhances its value with every visit. During our stay, we were deeply impressed by the hospitality. Instead of pre-prepared yukata in the room, staff carefully selected sizes based on each guest’s physique and gender before delivering them personally. When assisting with luggage, they provided detailed explanations about both the facility and rooms, showcasing thoughtful care throughout. In the spacious hall with panoramic views of Tanigawa-dake, guests can enjoy drip coffee, tea, or rooibos tea served directly to their seats by attentive staff. The arrangement of sofas and tables is thoughtfully designed to create a serene space where other guests' presence does not intrude. Dinner featured "Shikisai Kaiseki," highlighting premium Joshu Wagyu beef and seasonal ingredients sourced from across Japan. Each dish was visually stunning and delightful in taste. A wide selection of local craft beers and sake complemented this uncompromising culinary experience. This accommodation offers different charms depending on the season—whether it’s autumn foliage or snowy landscapes—and I am eager to return during those times as well. A truly unforgettable place that I wholeheartedly recommend!

    Snow of Mount Tanigawa

The view of Mount Tanigawa was absolutely stunning. The staff's service and the food were excellent. However, the Onsen was slightly lukewarm, which was a bit disappointing. But the water tasted great and seemed beneficial for digestion. Thank you for offering such a rare and reasonable price setting these days. The breakfast spread was overwhelming, but I managed to enjoy everything! The desserts were also very delicious. Please keep up the great work—I definitely want to visit again!

Unfortunately, this time didn't work out.

During my previous stay with a friend, we loved this accommodation so much that we said we'd definitely come back again. The woman who guided us to our room and the one who served dinner were very kind and provided excellent service. Dinner was delicious, but the male staff member at the dining area had such a bad attitude that it ruined the mood. I was shocked because I’ve never experienced such poor treatment at a ryokan before. In the morning, I called the front desk to borrow scissors. When I greeted them with "Good morning," all I got in return was "Front desk." This staff member was also male—wouldn't it be nice if they could at least return a greeting? The male staff's behavior completely ruined my mood... And then breakfast... The same unpleasant male staff member from last night was in charge, making for an awful start to the day... Even though the food should have been enjoyable, all that remained was disappointment. If I were rating only based on the female staff's service, I'd give 5 stars for hospitality and service. However, because of how terrible the male staff were, I'm giving just 1 star this time. It’s really disappointing since this used to be one of my favorite accommodations.

It was a wonderful accommodation, just as the reviews said.

It was my first time using this accommodation. Before making the reservation, I read reviews from other guests and was drawn to the kind and thoughtful comments that were unlike those for other accommodations or hotels. It turned out to be exactly as described—a refined and wonderful accommodation. From the shuttle service to check-in/check-out, the hospitality was impeccable. The beautifully presented dishes with high-quality ingredients brought a sense of joy, and staff members kindly explained each detail about the ingredients and preparation process. The bath had a gentle feel on the skin, the view from the lobby was stunning, and both seasonal decorations inside the facility and thoughtful touches in every corner created a perfect balance of comfort without excess or deficiency. I felt truly relaxed by this quiet yet attentive hospitality. I also appreciated experiencing beauty and comfort that are hard to find these days. My companion has become sensitive to artificial scents recently, but we were pleased that there were no synthetic fragrances commonly used nowadays; instead, there was a subtle natural lavender scent adding freshness while maintaining cleanliness throughout both public spaces and rooms. Thank you very much for such an exceptional experience! I would love to visit again in the future.

I want to visit again soon!

I was praised by my family for finding such a great accommodation! The building is old, but it has a nostalgic charm that makes you realize new isn't always better. You can see the care and attention given to the place in many details. A few days ago, my mother injured her knee, and we considered canceling the trip, but she was deeply impressed by the private open-air rock bath in our room. She was grateful we came as she could enjoy a spacious bath with abundant hot water and a soothing view without needing to go to the public bath. The meals were not overly extravagant but incredibly delicious, showcasing the chef's skill. The tableware was also beautiful and captivating. Considering today's rising costs of living, I think this accommodation is very reasonably priced and thoughtful. The staff were all kind and pleasant as well. I will definitely return with other family members next time! Thank you so much!

    Thank you for your patronage.

We stayed at Minakami Sansou to honor my late father in a place full of memories. The special request for the symbolic meal was thoughtfully prepared, and we truly appreciated it. My elderly mother seemed completely rejuvenated by the Onsen and delicious cuisine. The hospitality was perfectly balanced, allowing us to relax and enjoy our time fully. The only concern we had was that the water flow at the sink in the dressing area of our room's private bath was quite weak. Overall, it was a truly wonderful trip. Thank you very much!

A wonderful accommodation with excellent Onsen and cuisine

A wonderful accommodation located in the onsen area of Minakami, Gunma. The ryokan is not overly large, offering a serene and traditional atmosphere. From the lobby, you can enjoy breathtaking views of Mount Tanigawa, still covered in snow—a truly spectacular sight. The room may not be the most modern but is clean and provides a comfortable stay. The highlights were definitely the onsen and cuisine! The onsen boasts one of Japan's top-quality spring waters, which can even be consumed. The open-air bath offers magnificent views of mountains and rivers, creating an unparalleled luxurious space for relaxation that other ryokans cannot replicate. As for the food, it was absolutely delicious! Initially hesitant about creative Japanese cuisine, I was pleasantly surprised by how every dish exceeded expectations—so much so that I would return just for the meals alone. This is truly a gourmet accommodation worth visiting again. If you're looking for accommodation in Minakami, I highly recommend this place!

    It was great.

As everyone has rated, it was a very good accommodation. The food was especially excellent. Unlike typical ryokan cuisine, it was very creative, and each dish was incredibly delicious. I would love to visit again if I have the chance.

    It was a relaxing experience.

I was looking for a quiet Onsen accommodation about an hour's drive from home. After working until noon and having lunch, I headed to the accommodation. The calm atmosphere was very relaxing. The meals were also great. My only wish is that the lounge on the first floor could be opened around 6 a.m., as I wanted to work on my computer without waking up my partner who was still sleeping. I will use this place again.

    Second Visit

After about two and a half years, we returned to Minakami Sansou. This time, we visited as a family of four. On our previous visit, I was unable to stay due to a sudden illness, so this was a "revenge" stay. I had heard from my family about the wonderful onsen and how delicious the meals were for both breakfast and dinner, and this accommodation truly lived up to those expectations. The rice at breakfast was slightly firm, but everything else—from the scenic view from our room to the quality of the onsen water, the private dining area’s excellence, and the staff's hospitality—made me feel that staying here was absolutely worth it. I look forward to visiting again someday. It was truly rejuvenating being surrounded by nature!

    Enjoy Minakami to the Fullest

After 9 years, I visited Minakami Town again. Last time was for rafting, so this was my first time experiencing Minakami Onsen. I arrived early but was promptly shown to my room. Although the building is old, it is well-maintained and provided a comfortable stay. The quality of the Onsen water was excellent—slightly lukewarm but left me feeling warm and with smooth skin after each soak. I enjoyed it multiple times. The meals were high-quality with a sufficient variety of dishes. For children, we used the toddler meal option, which compared favorably to other Ryokans we've stayed at. We spent an entire day relaxing in the Ryokan and had a wonderful holiday. We also enjoyed nearby attractions like the Tanigawadake Ropeway and Doai Station, Japan's deepest underground station.

Upon entering, I was overwhelmed by the stunning view of Mount Tanigawa right in front of the lobby. The Room was spacious and impeccably clean. From the bath in the Room, you could also enjoy a breathtaking view of Mount Tanigawa. It is said that Minakami Sansou even appeared in Sazae-san. The illustrations and handwritten messages from the hostess were heartwarming and lovely. All the staff provided warm hospitality, reflecting the high quality of this Ryokan. Next time, I would love to visit again during autumn foliage season with my family who couldn't join this time!

An exceptional accommodation that exceeds all expectations

I chose this accommodation for my first onsen trip with my best friend from middle school (50 years ago). The reviews looked very promising, so I visited with some expectations, but the quality far exceeded them, making it a truly satisfying stay. The building is old but meticulously maintained, exuding a warmth that new structures lack and showcasing the dignity of an accommodation that has welcomed many travelers over the years. The bath was exceptional, featuring natural flowing onsen water without heating or added water, maintaining an ideal temperature of around 41°C. I enjoyed long soaks multiple times. From the open-air bath, you can admire the majestic view of Mount Tanigawa. Even just this would have been enough to satisfy me; however, I was amazed by the high quality of the cuisine. Both breakfast and dinner were carefully prepared using local ingredients with great attention to detail in presentation and tableware. The locally branded rice was also incredibly delicious. In these times when prices are rising everywhere, I deeply respect how they maintain such high quality at this price point. Moreover, I was genuinely comforted by the warm service provided by all staff members. From arrival to departure, every staff member throughout the facility was kind-hearted, friendly, and attentive to details. It’s clear that everyone takes great pride in working at this ryokan. Although it was just a one-night stay, both their soft services and hard facilities offered impeccable hospitality for which I am truly grateful. I will definitely visit again!

    Highly recommended.

We stayed in a standard Room, which felt well-maintained and thoroughly cared for. The meals were thoughtfully prepared and very delicious. The bath had a pH of around 8.6, offering gentle water that provided excellent relaxation—a wonderful Onsen experience.

    Overall satisfied, but...

Overall, I was satisfied, but there were a few points that caught my attention... The temperature of the open-air bath was low, which made it a bit chilly and disappointing. Additionally, the Room Wi-Fi was not connected to the internet, which was inconvenient. (Suzuran) There were stink bugs in the Room as well; while this might be unavoidable, it was concerning. The bath was absolutely amazing. Despite the unfortunate snowy weather, the open-air bath with a view of the snow-covered landscape had a wonderful atmosphere. The next morning, bathing under clear skies while gazing at the white rock walls of Mt. Tanigawa was an indescribable pleasure. With its pH 8.6 lukewarm water, I enjoyed a long and relaxing soak. The Room's private bath also featured free-flowing hot spring water, showcasing the abundance of the source. The Room itself was comfortable after renovation; however, the bed sheets felt cold for winter, and having pillows with adjustable heights would have improved my sleep quality. While the building shows its age, both the Rooms and lobby have been beautifully renovated and maintained. The meals were innovative for a mountain Ryokan and seemed to embrace new challenges; however, I personally preferred dishes prepared by the previous head chef who retired about five years ago—his classic yet well-balanced flavors were more to my taste.

    An accommodation with outstanding satisfaction.

I have been visiting this accommodation occasionally for many years, and I always leave satisfied. Satisfaction 1: The quality of the Onsen water. The essence of an Onsen is its water quality. Nowadays, it’s rare to find a genuine free-flowing hot spring without circulation, but this accommodation offers exactly that. The temperature of the spring adjusts perfectly with each season, allowing you to soak comfortably for as long as you like. Satisfaction 2: The meals. It is said to be a "culinary accommodation." Dishes are carefully prepared by the head chef using mainly local ingredients. Chef O is very passionate about his craft, and every visit brings new culinary innovations to enjoy. Despite rising costs in recent times, there’s no compromise in the quality or presentation of the meals here. Detailed explanations about ingredients are provided on the back of the menu as well. Satisfaction 3: The exceptional hospitality from all staff members. They are always smiling and respond quickly whenever assistance is needed. Satisfaction 4: The location of the accommodation itself offers stunning views of Mount Tanigawa directly from both the lobby and rooms—and even from outdoor baths! In winter, you’re greeted by pristine snow-covered landscapes while enjoying warm baths with breathtaking views of icy peaks that seem untouchable by humans—a truly unique experience! Satisfaction 5: Other thoughtful touches throughout your stay include fresh flowers subtly placed around entrances and hallways—creating an inviting atmosphere that feels personal thanks to what must be heartfelt efforts by Okami-san (the proprietress). Additionally, after breakfast at the lounge area comes complimentary coffee service; each cup freshly brewed by attentive staff members while offering panoramic views through large glass windows overlooking snowy Mount Tanigawa beyond—a perfect way to start your day!

    It was a relaxing experience.

At first glance, the Hotel seemed small and old, which was disappointing, but the service was excellent, the meals were delicious both in the morning and evening, and the Onsen was amazing. It was the best among all the hotels I have recently stayed at. I will definitely return. Thank you very much!

An inn with good Onsen for everyone.

I stayed at the Japanese-style Room Katakuri. The Room's rock bath Onsen was nice and calming. The snow open-air bath in the large public bath was also good, and although I can't find the words to describe it, the quality of the water felt great. The breakfast and dinner were simply wonderful. Each dish, whether meat, fish, or vegetables, was of high quality with a focus on local ingredients. The deliciousness and overall balance of the course made me feel the kindness of those who prepared it. If asked what was the most delicious dish? My answer would be all of them. The morning trout sashimi (with wasabi) was outstanding. Rice, eggs, pork too. I bought four bottles of Junmai Sake Tanigawadake. Oh my, it was delicious. The water was also great. I would like to visit again during Tanigawadake's snowy season. Thank you to everyone at the Property.

    Scenery unique to this place

The silver world visible from the sunken kotatsu and the open-air bath in the room. It was a spectacular view!! And when you open the window at night, a sky full of stars. The best part was the highest quality hot spring water. After leaving the Onsen, my skin was smooth and silky. Even my hair became shiny!! The meals didn't quite suit our taste, but we still had an overwhelmingly wonderful time. Thank you very much!!

    Slowly, leisurely

There were various large baths, and I was able to relax. I drank Onsen water because my stomach is weak. The Room was spacious and comfortable, but one thing that bothered me was that when I got into the bathtub in the Room, the overflowing water went to the washroom beyond the door, which made me panic. My clothes got wet. It might be better to review the drainage. The dinner felt a bit lacking, but maybe that's because we usually eat a lot. The service was kind, friendly, and pleasant.

This was my 41st stay. The onsen in the room is fresh, with perfectly adjusted temperature, and the meals are delicious. The warm smiles of everyone make me feel at ease. A property with a comfortable onsen.

I stayed with my daughter. The onsen temperature and environment were wonderful at this property. There are two bathtubs with different temperatures inside and outside, allowing for a long soak. The long soak in the outdoor bath was especially great given the season. The meals were well-prepared, and both the taste and quantity were good. The room was clean, but I was concerned about the damage on the ceiling when lying on the bed. Unfortunately, the coffee in the lounge was not very tasty.
