    Enjoyable even for one person

    I had requested a memory foam pillow in advance, but a few days before my stay, I was informed by phone that it was unavailable and that a lower pillow would be provided instead. While the pillow didn’t quite suit me, I appreciated the effort to accommodate my request. Upon getting off the shuttle bus, staff members greeted each group warmly, reminiscent of the hospitality at a ryokan, which made me very happy. The front desk staff were extremely friendly—perhaps too casual for my taste—but everyone was very polite and attentive in their service. Both dinner and breakfast were buffet-style with a wide variety of delicious options. It had been a while since I enjoyed such an abundant meal! The all-you-can-drink alcohol selection included Dassai sake, which pleasantly surprised me. If I were younger, I might have eaten even more! You can also enjoy free projection mapping and fountain shows; however, my top recommendation is the open-air bath at Sora-kan. Relaxing in the bath while taking in views of either the nightscape or morning sunlight was truly satisfying.

    Walk. (lol)

    Meals and baths require quite a bit of walking. However, the meals are diverse, and the baths are spacious, so it was very enjoyable. The disappointing part was finding trash on the floor immediately after entering the Room. It was evident that no vacuuming had been done as there was noticeable debris on the floor.

    The perfect accommodation where everything is "just right"

    Beppu offers a range of accommodations, from casual options with simple or bicarbonate springs to luxurious or older accommodations with sulfur springs. However, Suginoi Hotel stands out as a large-scale accommodation with clean rooms and an abundance of sulfate onsen water featuring mineral deposits and a pleasant sulfur aroma. The Tanayu bath area is lively, while the Sora Yu section provides a more relaxed atmosphere where you can enjoy both the onsen and Beppu's scenic views. The sauna also offers the delightful fragrance of cypress wood. For dining, the buffet at Sora-kan is highly recommended. It features authentic Japanese, Western, and Chinese dishes that are all delicious. The staff's hospitality was exceptional. Although we arrived well before check-in time, we were able to enjoy services like Tanayu baths and room amenities in advance, making our stay at Suginoi Hotel truly enjoyable. It strikes the perfect balance between affordability and luxury—our top recommendation for accommodations in Beppu!

    The price and the atmosphere of the Hotel do not match...

    I stayed at the Accommodation "Chukan." While it is a fairly expensive Hotel, there were several cost-cutting measures such as no guidance to the Room, minimal amenities, and no pajamas provided. The Room was reasonably spacious but lacked space to place luggage, making it difficult to open suitcases. Since there is a pool, it would be better if there were drying racks in the bathroom. Additionally, although there was a lovely balcony, access was restricted without sufficient prior explanation. The Aqua Garden looked beautiful in photos but appeared quite aged in reality. The Onsen was warm and the nighttime shows were creative; however, overall maintenance seems necessary. The nearby Tana-yu next to Aqua Garden also looked great in pictures but was overcrowded with families and felt like a public pool. I disliked having to carry slippers into lockers. There were even newborn-like babies or children clearly wearing diapers entering the baths freely—this seemed unhygienic. While diaper swimwear is required at Aqua Garden, why are there no restrictions for large communal baths? With people swimming or treating Tana-yu like a pool area, I didn’t enter even once. Sora-yu was slightly better but still extremely crowded with families from early evening until late night; queues formed for washing areas as well. Although the outdoor bath had more space and wasn’t as packed, both changing rooms and hairdryer stations were fully occupied—it ended up being exhausting rather than relaxing. This place is not recommended for adults seeking a quiet getaway. The buffet at Chukan should have been of higher quality given its grade level; however, it did not feature particularly luxurious ingredients. Moreover, during Multiple Night Stays menus remained exactly identical each day which became monotonous over time. For those who enjoy lively Hotels filled with activity though—it might be suitable!

    Enjoy an Onsen and room with a view of Beppu Bay, along with a delicious buffet that includes alcoholic beverages.

    We enjoyed both the Tanayu and Chukan baths. However, at Tanayu, many guests left the door to the outside open despite the cold weather, and I had to close it multiple times. Even though there was a clear sign saying "Please close the door," it seems an almost automatic closing door like in Chukan might be necessary. We had made a reservation for dining at Cedar Palace, but one of our companions with limited mobility decided they didn’t want to go anymore. So, we switched our second night’s stay to Chukan 1F. In the end, we got to try four different buffets—Cedar Palace was great for family fun, while Chukan 1F offered indulgent options like unlimited fine drinks, fluffy omelets with fresh honeycomb honey, professional Chinese cuisine, and delicious eel bowls made with high-quality unagi. The shuttle bus service to the station was very helpful. There are still many public baths in Beppu that we haven’t visited yet. More importantly, there’s so much more of Suginoi Hotel left for us to explore! Although it’s far away from home, we definitely want to visit again.

    We stayed here again...

    We stayed here again this year following our visit last year. Last year, unfortunately, the weather didn’t allow us to fully enjoy the view from the open-air bath on the top floor, but this time we were able to enjoy both the night view and sunrise twice. We chose a plan that included a dinner and breakfast buffet, which offered Japanese, Western, and Chinese dishes with excellent quality and quantity—very satisfying. After dinner, I enjoyed bowling with my son, which brought back memories of visiting here as a child with my parents and younger brother. One disappointing aspect was during our time at the large public bath in Chukan when one of the younger staff members was loudly cleaning up buckets and chairs while saying "It's so hot." While I understand that work can be tough at times, displaying such behavior in front of guests is unprofessional. This kind of attitude could affect not only his own evaluation but also that of other hardworking staff members and even the hotel's overall reputation. I would love to stay here again in the future, so I hope this issue will be addressed for improvement.

    We recommend Chukan.

    It was my second visit in 30 years. I decided to stay after being drawn to the shelf bath featured in the commercial. Accommodation: Sora Building, Sora Buffet, Deluxe Twin (Ocean View) 【Good Points】 - There were few small children or large inbound groups, allowing for a calm and relaxing stay. - The Sora Bath is not open for day-use visitors, so it had a peaceful atmosphere. It was convenient that towels were provided. The shelf bath in the annex can also be used before check-in and after check-out. - Although I reserved a casual twin room with a mountain view, it was upgraded to a deluxe ocean-view room at no extra charge. The room was spacious with great views, making for an enjoyable stay. - Meals were well-organized with guided seating and no crowding despite being buffet-style. The menu offered Japanese, Western, Chinese dishes as well as desserts—all delicious—and all drinks including alcohol were free-flowing, which was very satisfying! The hamburger steak is highly recommended. 【Disappointing Points】 - Moving between buildings involved long distances and stairs; accessing the shelf bath or souvenir shop felt cumbersome and seemed unsuitable for wheelchair users or elderly guests. - The shelf bath's changing area became overcrowded with families returning from the pool, making it hard to relax. - Dinner buffet time was limited to 100 minutes; I felt slightly rushed and couldn't drink enough. - Considering movement between buildings, yukata easily comes undone—separate top-and-bottom style loungewear like samue might be more practical. Overall: Great value for money!

    Business Hotel?

    The Hotel is quite practical, almost like a large Business Hotel. Amenities are placed near the elevator, which is understandable given the current times, but the lack of tabi socks was disappointing. There was insufficient explanation for everything and a lack of kindness overall. The food was terrible; if it's a buffet style, there should be more variety and better presentation of prepared dishes. I expected to enjoy alcohol in the lounge, but it was closed. Everything about this Hotel was disappointing.

    New Star Pavilion

    Speaking of Beppu, we have used Suginoi Hotel many times as a family. We have stayed at Niji-kan and Sora-kan, and decided to make a reservation at the newly renovated Hoshi-kan to enjoy Tanayu. The shuttle service from Beppu Station was smooth, and we arrived at the entrance of Hoshi-kan and were able to check in. We were worried about the crowd at 3 PM, but we were able to enter the room immediately. The room is simple, with a sofa bed by the window, so the view of the sea is about half blocked. Since it was originally Hana-kan, it takes about 6 minutes to get to Tanayu, and it was cold outside due to the strong wind that day. In that regard, Sora-kan was better. The buffet at Hoshi-kan is on the 13th floor, with a wonderful view and a wide variety of dishes. The sashimi and sushi ingredients were fresh and good. Depending on the time, it overlaps with groups, so lines form, so it's better to go early. Also, since the dishes are lined up in a row, it seems difficult to get them depending on the seat. Well, if you take your time, you can enjoy your meal while looking at the scenery. There is only a shower in the room, so it was a bit disappointing for my elderly mother as she couldn't warm up in the room. We will visit again in a different season.

    It was wonderful.

    I visited with high expectations, and it exceeded them. The buffet, rumored to be delicious no matter what you eat, was truly tasty. Since I went a bit later, it wasn't too crowded, and I could enjoy my meal leisurely. All the staff were smiling and working briskly, which was pleasant to see. The room was very spacious and impeccably clean. The bed was comfortable as well. The rooftop observation bath, Sora-yu, was extremely spacious, allowing for a wide personal space to relax and bathe. I made a reservation for a massage in advance by phone and received the treatment right next to Sora-yu. It was convenient not having to go all the way to the shelf bath in the cold. Being able to settle the checkout bill using the tablet in the room was very convenient for a busy morning. Next time, I plan to stay with my son, who will come from Tokyo, and meet at the location. Thank you very much.

    The best travel

    I stayed at Suginoi Hotel on a long-awaited trip. It was not an old-fashioned hotel, but it had been renovated and turned into a very wonderful hotel. The room, food, and bath were very good. The Japanese staff were giving precise instructions to the (other country staff), and they were very wonderful personnel. The best part was that the children were the happiest. To everyone at Suginoi Hotel, I will visit again soon.

    Stayed at the Stays. The large public bath was also very good. Meals are buffet style and alcohol is free. There were many types and items, and I was satisfied that the grade did not drop no matter when I went. By the way, this is my third stay.

    Stay at the lower floor of the Chukan

    This time, we stayed on a lower floor in the Chukan with 5 people. There was no view from the window, but the room was clean and spacious enough for 5 people with 5 beds, which was very nice. The onsen on the top floor had a great view, and the night view was very beautiful. I would definitely like to stay again.

    Satisfied.

    We stayed with my family and a friend's family, totaling six people. Since it was my friend's child's birthday, a surprise birthday cake was prepared for dinner, and they even sang the Happy Birthday song. Both the child and the parents were delighted. The onsen was pleasant and relaxing. If possible, weekdays are recommended.

    I wanted nightwear.

    I stayed at the property. Unfortunately, there was no sleepwear provided for guests. It was very disappointing that there was only a yukata to wear inside the facility. I didn't expect that even at an Orix Resort, there would be no nightwear or bathrobes. Since it is a facility for "stays," I wish there was more attention to "sleeping." Additionally, the yukata was the only item with pockets, and it was hard to even notice that. It would have been nice to have something like the "pochette" offered at other hotels in the group, even if it was made of disposable non-woven fabric.

    The meals, Onsen, room, and service were perfect! The only slight downside was having to go outside to move around the facility. However, I was very satisfied!

    Hmm, not quite there!

    I stayed at Chukan this time. It was quite sad that there was no welcome service at all, and we had to carry our heavy luggage to the Room ourselves! The view from the Chuyu is spectacular, but the open-air bath is too cold in the strong winter winds. It's quite far to Tanayu and Cedar Palace, and it's cold, making it tough for the elderly and those with children. The service and food quality at Cedar Palace have definitely declined compared to before, and empty dishes were not cleared away promptly, so I ended up clearing them myself. Around 8 a.m., a foreign staff member told me there was no more mochi, with no explanation about whether more would be served later. What kind of staff training do they have? When leaving, there were no greetings or smiles, and overall, the Hotel's customer service was disappointing. I will not stay here again, nor will I recommend it to others.

    I want to visit again.

    We stayed at the Chukan with my family and mother, making a group of four. The bath had an outstanding view. The meals were buffet-style with a wide variety, and we enjoyed them very much. The staff were pleasant, and we were extremely satisfied. My 85-year-old mother also seemed to have taken a liking to it and said she would like to visit again.

    The best view

    I stayed at Stays Kan. With many staff members available, it was a hospitable space where you could get help immediately if needed. Utilizing the bus from the station made for a stress-free trip. The buffet was also satisfying with a wide selection and quality. The free-flowing alcohol allowed for plenty of enjoyment. The view from the bath offers a spectacular panorama of Beppu's mountains and sea. However, the men's bath mostly overlooks the mountains and city, and since there is no switch between morning and night, only the women's bath offers the wonderful view. I hope they consider alternating the views.

    I think I prefer Tanayu over Chuyou.

    Stayed at the Sora Building of Suginoi Hotel with my family of four for the first time in 10 years. We stayed several times when the children were young, but this stay was to celebrate them becoming high school and university students. There was a connecting room with two beds, not extra beds, and we stayed separately for boys and girls. Upon inquiry, we found out that this type of room is only on the mountain side, not the sea side, and only has a shower, but since we were just sleeping, it was okay. When we arrived around 2 PM, the front desk was empty, and we checked in smoothly. We recommend arriving a little early. You can't enter the room until 3 PM, but they will hold your luggage at the cloakroom. We enjoyed bowling until it was time. By around 3:30 PM, there was quite a line for check-in. Around 4 PM before dinner, we entered the Tanayu bath, and it was empty. We went to the Sora-yu bath at 6:45 AM to see the sunrise and were surprised by the crowd! Watching the sunrise from the open-air bath was the best. It's understandable why there were so many people. The men's bath is on the west side, so they couldn't quite see the sunrise. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious with a variety of buffets, and we ate too much. There was no crab or Peking duck. It's nice to be able to take coffee to go. All the staff were very pleasant, maintaining a good distance, and even the young staff seemed well-trained. One thing that bothered me. Dinner time was crowded, so I thought it was inevitable that we were guided to an inside seat instead of a terrace seat, but at breakfast, we were initially guided to a terrace seat and felt lucky, only to be suddenly moved to an inside seat. The staff who guided us seemed to be receiving some instructions through an intercom. It wasn't that crowded, and we came at a slightly different time... I was disappointed thinking, "What, there are plenty of terrace seats available." Was there a reason we couldn't be guided to a terrace seat? Priority for suite rooms? Because it was a cheap room? What? I had breakfast with a lingering feeling of unease, but people who came later were guided to the terrace seats... It still bothers me! I would like to know for future reference. Ah, I wanted to have breakfast while looking at Beppu Bay. That's the only thing that was very disappointing.

    It was a very satisfying stay.

    It was a stay to coincide with my child's birthday. Thanks to making the reservation early, we were provided with a high floor and were able to enjoy the view of Beppu and the beautiful sunrise. The dinner and breakfast buffets incorporated local cuisine and were all satisfying. Thank you to the restaurant staff for reaching out to us. The view from the Sora-yu was also very nice. Thank you for taking care of us.

    I want to visit again!

    The Onsen on the top floor of Chukan offers a panoramic view of the city of Beppu. The nighttime view is truly spectacular, making you realize what a breathtaking sight it is. Additionally, the dinner buffet at Chukan is delicious no matter what you choose to eat, and what surprised me the most was the all-you-can-drink alcohol. With a wide variety of dishes and drinks, it was the best buffet I've ever experienced. Furthermore, the breakfast buffet was also extremely satisfying, with a rich menu and deliciousness that made it the best I've ever had. The bed in the room was comfortable, and there was a Shuttle Service between Beppu Station and the Hotel (with a bus waiting area at Beppu Station), making for a completely satisfying stay. From the moment I stayed, I felt like I wanted to come back again next time! It was a Hotel that left a lasting impression.

    The Onsen is also wonderful and very satisfying.

    When I arrived at the hotel early and wondered how to kill time, I consulted with the front desk and was informed that although I couldn't enter the room until 3 PM, I could use the onsen. Thanks to that, I was able to relax in the open-air bath and make good use of my time. The buffet was also rich in variety and delicious. The dessert and alcohol corner were well-stocked, and I was very satisfied with the offerings. Despite being a large hotel, the service was attentive and I was very satisfied. Thank you very much.

    No.1 for Kids

    The main reason for choosing this place was the abundance of pool slides. We visited every day during our stay and never got bored. Staying at the Chukan was a great decision. The bath and dinner at the Chukan were more luxurious and enjoyable. The sauna in the women's bath was a mist sauna, so a dry sauna would be appreciated. Please consider it. There were also various entertainments such as bowling and karaoke, making it a fun trip.
