    About the staff at Cedar Palace

    The bath was amazing. Even if the weather is bad, it was great that you can go bowling, there are plenty of amusement facilities, and there is a convenience store. I would like to come again if I have the chance. What concerned me) I really enjoyed the atmosphere at Cedar Palace, and the food was delicious, so I was having a very pleasant time, but I was very disappointed with how some staff members responded. Since it is a buffet, I handed a staff member some dirty plates saying, “Excuse me,” but they glared at me in silence and reluctantly took them away. I mistakenly thought they were collecting dirty dishes with a cart, but later I realized that staff member was probably in charge of refilling items, and that cart was for transporting refill supplies—so maybe my dirty plates forced them to stop their work. However, as guests we cannot tell which staff are responsible for clearing dishes and which are responsible for refills, and we also do not know whether Japanese will be understood. Ignoring someone and glaring is not appropriate. In hindsight, it would have been better if there had been signage on the cart indicating it was not for clearing dishes, or if the Hotel had made roles easier to identify—for example by using different uniforms—since there are many staff members. I normally do not write things like this, but because Cedar Palace was so wonderful overall, this incident made me feel quite upset mentally and even lose my appetite, so I wanted to mention it.

    I’m a returning guest.

    As soon as I checked in and entered the Room, I found a used hair tie on the bar counter... There was also noticeable dirt on the mirror in the wash area, which made me feel the final inspection was not thorough. Since it was a three-day weekend and the price was fairly high, this was disappointing given how highly rated the meals and Onsen are.

    A stay that both 5th-grade boys and adults will love

    I stayed here with my 5th-grade son, and we had a very comfortable and enjoyable time. The outdoor pool has a great view and feels wonderfully open and refreshing! For dinner, we could try small portions of international dishes, and there was also a wide variety of desserts—there wasn’t enough room in our stomachs. I also didn’t realize an all-you-can-drink option was included, so that was a pleasant surprise. It felt like excellent value for the price. The staff were multinational and everyone was kind and helpful. Check-out was unmanned and smooth. Next time, I’d love to bring the grandparents too.

    Kid-friendly

    We stayed for 2 nights and 3 days with our child. During the day, the Onsen pool was not crowded, so we could play to our heart’s content. Overall it was good, but at checkout I was surprised that the front desk staff spoke in an overly casual manner the whole time. It was disappointing.

    I would like to stay here again. I relaxed in the Onsen and spent a leisurely time in my Room. Next time, a Japanese set meal sounds great, but I would also like to try the buffet style.

    The large rooftop public bath, “Sora-yu,” at Sora-kan was extremely satisfying.

    After being hospitalized back-to-back this summer and fall for emphysema, pneumonia, and surgery for an aortic aneurysm, my wife and I booked the Sora Building after reading Reviews of Suginoi Hotel as a way to relax. The staff’s service and support were pleasant, and although our Room faced the mountains, it was bright, clean, and very satisfying. The “SORA Buffet” offered a wide variety of dishes and was excellent. The Onsen was also wonderful—soaking in the large public bath “Sorayu,” we enjoyed the city lights at night below us, and in the morning bath we could look out over Beppu Bay while relaxing at our own pace. Next time, we would like to stay at Suginoi Hotel with our daughter and grandchild from Sapporo and take our time enjoying the town of Beppu.

    Used for our honeymoon.

    We recently stayed here for our honeymoon. We were pleasantly surprised upon entering the Room! The Room was beautifully decorated in a honeymoon theme, and both the dining area and the Room offered stunning views, making our trip to Beppu truly unforgettable. The bath was also exceptional. The temperature, view, and cleanliness were all perfect. We would love to stay here again!

    A biannual delight

    I live in the city and often stay here about twice a year for celebrations because it’s close and highly satisfying. This time, I stayed at Hoshikan and dined at Cedar Palace. The room was excellent! The staff's hospitality was also great. However, I was bothered by the cleaning of the shelf bath around 11:30 AM, which made it difficult to relax and enjoy the bath. A vacuum cleaner was used vigorously near my feet while using a hairdryer, and since the locker was right next to it, when I left it slightly open to go to the mirror for a moment, different people kept opening and closing my locker where I had stored my belongings—perhaps they wanted to clean that area. I understand cleaning is necessary before noon checkout time, but if that's the case, I'd prefer if they closed access entirely from 11:30 AM onward. It might have been because of my late bath timing this time, but unfortunately, I couldn’t prepare myself calmly on this occasion.

    Enjoyed!

    I spontaneously decided to go out after finding an available room and made a reservation. I didn't mind staying on the mountain side or on a lower floor. The room was on the 2nd floor, mountain side. I expected the room to be small, but it was a connecting room. I could hear conversations, a baby crying, and voices soothing the baby from the next room—so clearly that I could make out their words. Although I've stayed here several times before, this was my first experience with such a room. While it might be convenient for large families or groups of friends using connecting rooms together, honestly, it was challenging for me. Other than this issue, everything else met my expectations as usual. Thank you for your hospitality!

    A Wonderful Onsen Resort

    This time, we stayed in the Sora Suite. The room was spacious with an amazing view, allowing us to relax and enjoy a luxurious end-of-year experience. Both the main building's Tanayu Onsen and Sora-kan's Sorayu Onsen had their own unique charm and were delightful. As expected of Beppu Onsen! The pleasant sulfur aroma and smooth water quality helped soothe the fatigue from a busy year. Sorayu, in particular, was exceptional as we could gaze at the star-filled sky while soaking. The meals were excellent, especially dinner with its variety of dishes and high quality—it was truly delicious. Alcohol options like sake, wine, champagne, and Yamazaki whiskey were available for unlimited enjoyment as well. Among the onsen resorts we've stayed at in recent years, this one ranks highly for us. We had a wonderful holiday here—truly impressive work by Suginoi Hotel! Next time, I’d love to bring my grandchildren along to enjoy the pool facilities too. Thank you to all the staff!

    With small children

    It was a highly satisfying Hotel with exceptional hospitality. We traveled with our 0-year-old and 2-year-old children, and the buffet at Cedar Palace offered a great variety of dishes, from baby food to meals enjoyable for both toddlers and adults. We forgot to bring our stroller, but the rental service was incredibly helpful. We would love to visit again next time. Thank you very much!

    The Hotel had a very...

    The Hotel had a very bright and enjoyable atmosphere. I fully enjoyed the resort-like experience. However, I was concerned that there were no food allergy labels in the restaurant. Also, while the bath had a wonderful sulfur scent, I felt it was overshadowed by the strong fragrance of the shampoo and body soap, which seemed like a missed opportunity. Personally, I prefer amenities like charcoal soap or high-quality products with milder scents. That said, I slept soundly and absolutely loved the Onsen! I'd love to visit again!

    I had a relaxing stay.

    I stayed in a mountain-side room at the accommodation. The hotel was very clean, the meals were delicious, and I was extremely satisfied. Additionally, the bath had a wonderful view, allowing me to relax and relieve my fatigue—I'm truly grateful. However, one regret is that while I wanted to use the bath multiple times because it was so nice, it was far from my room, so I could only use it once. That is my only disappointment.

    Excellent Accommodation

    A wonderful accommodation that you will want to stay at repeatedly, no matter how many times you visit or who you go with. The facility offers a variety of onsen options, a game corner, massage services, and a gym, ensuring enjoyment even if you arrive early. The interior is impeccably clean and the soothing scent of onsen lingers throughout the premises. While the buffet is excellent, private dining rooms have recently opened, and I heard that family baths are planned for the future—making it even more exciting to visit again!

    Focused solely on providing meals, with minimal additional services.

    I was looking forward to staying at this highly ranked Hotel, which has also been advertised on TV. However, I was surprised upon arrival that there was no welcome drink service. The rooftop bath in the Sora building was decent, but the Tanayu bath, being open to all guests, was overcrowded. The view from the baths was nice. The dining experience at the Sora building's dining kitchen offered a variety of dishes with average taste. I wished they had included seasonal fish for sashimi and sushi. The desserts like soft-serve ice cream and Mont Blanc were overly sweet and not very impressive. I had high expectations due to its high Review ratings but felt disappointed overall. After bathing, only water dispensers were available for refreshment. There seemed to be a clear focus on meals rather than other services or hospitality aspects. While the food quality wasn’t comparable to luxury hotels in Tokyo and didn’t offer much of a value-for-money feel in Beppu either, it might be an enjoyable place for families with small children or groups of university students looking for fun together. The Hotel seemed crowded with international guests and had many features catering well to them. Our Room accommodated three people by combining twin beds; however, without extra bedding (which we didn’t need), it would have felt more spacious. Amenities left a disappointing impression—minimalist at best—and despite its good reputation, there wasn’t much sense of being warmly welcomed here. Overall, it left me feeling let down.

    Satisfied for the third time

    This was my third stay. I enjoyed the buffet dinner at Sora-kan, which offered a wide variety of dishes for adults and unlimited alcoholic beverages, making it truly satisfying. I don't think there's another buffet as enjoyable as this one. Every trip to get food was exciting. This time, there were more international guests than usual, to the point where I wondered if I was still in Japan. While there were a few moments where manners seemed questionable, it wasn't anything too troubling. The Sora-yu bath at Sora-kan offers breathtaking views and is very relaxing, though it can feel a bit chilly in winter. The Tana-yu bath felt more comfortable during this season. As always, my stay was pleasant and comfortable. I look forward to visiting again!

    Hot spring, Room, and dinner (Yakiniku: Ariran Rikyuu) are of the highest quality.

    During our couple's trip around Kyushu, we chose to stay at Beppu Sugiokui Hotel's Sora Building in Oita Prefecture, as Beppu Onsen is a must-visit. The room on the Beppu Bay side was very clean, with large and comfortable beds. The bath was also clean with an amazing view. For dinner, we selected the private yakiniku course at Yakiniku Ariran Rikyuu, where the staff’s attentiveness and the food were exceptional. We will definitely stay here again next time. However, there is one point I would like to mention for review: since we were traveling by rental car this time and your hotel has three separate buildings with parking located a bit far from each building, we wanted to unload our luggage at the entrance before parking. However, the guide at the hotel entrance directed us to park first and then carry our luggage back on foot. Other guests seemed able to unload their luggage at the entrance first before parking their cars. Perhaps it was due to busyness during full occupancy? I hope this guidance can be reviewed for future guests. Thank you for your hospitality during our healing journey as an elderly couple—it was truly a wonderful accommodation with excellent service!

    I had high expectations for the SORA buffet, but...

    I visited with high expectations as it was advertised as the best buffet in Japan, but the dishes lacked impact due to the absence of presentation and decoration. For visitors from across the whole country, I would rate it as above average, but there is still much room for improvement. However, the service staff did a commendable job clearing empty plates and tidying up tables. Additionally, I was disappointed by the chlorine smell in the large public bath. It made me feel uneasy, wondering if it was for bacteria prevention.

    I was amazed by the grand scale.

    This was my first stay. I stayed at Star Accommodation. The room was spacious and clean. The bath was amazing, with a great view and various water temperatures to enjoy. It was very convenient not having to bring bath towels from the room. I was also surprised by the size of the buffet venue. There were so many options, and even unlimited alcohol, which made it a series of delightful surprises. I think the accommodation cost was very reasonable. Traveling there was a bit challenging, so next time I’d like to stay at Sky Accommodation. Thank you for your hospitality!

    The quality of the meals was far beyond that of a typical buffet, leaving us truly satisfied and happy.     I was surprised by the changes as I only knew the old Suginoi Palace. However, I hesitate to bring elderly guests due to challenges with moving around the facility and dining. The restaurant staff seemed to be foreign and appeared a bit confused, which caused delays in being seated.
