    Overall, it was great.

    The bathroom offers Albion and Mikimoto shampoos, and you can use DIOR and CHANEL lotions and creams in the dressing room, which is a delight for women. The service provided by the staff was minimal yet sufficient, which was appreciated. Meals were generous in portion size, and they kindly accommodated individual dietary needs. The room was clean with no noticeable dirt or stains. Although it was old, it didn’t bother me. However, some furniture like shelves with unclear purposes might be better removed for safety reasons. Since I rarely visit Nikko, I made a last-minute reservation the day before without much information about the accommodation but felt it turned out to be a great choice. This experience made me think I wouldn’t mind visiting Nikko again!

    The meals and Onsen ...

    The meals and Onsen were excellent. We opted for in-room dining to avoid disturbing others as our one-year-old son tends to get noisy. However, the door was left open the entire time until all the dishes were served, and I believe my son's voice echoed down the hallway. Even though I asked several times to close the door, it was dismissed with comments like "it's difficult while serving food." Despite this, when bringing in dishes, staff repeatedly made remarks such as "his lovely voice echoed through the hallway," which we found very unpleasant. Additionally, water flow in the sink and bathroom was poor, and the hot water was excessively hot, making temperature adjustment challenging. Bathing our son or even washing our hands became a struggle. Overall, we felt dissatisfied with both room quality and staff hospitality.

    Accommodation you'd want to visit again

    We enjoyed a great deal by staying during the off-peak Golden Week period. The attentive and pleasant service, delicious meals, and drinks made our stay very satisfying. The Onsen offering towels and a selection of shampoos was also very appealing. The shuttle service from the station to the accommodation was much appreciated. Although we were initially concerned about staying in a smoking-permitted room, there was no smell at all, and it was very comfortable.

    I think it is a good accommodation.

    Overall, I think it was a good accommodation. I enjoyed my two-night stay. If I had to point out some issues, there were discrepancies in the service explanation upon arrival, the staff seemed unsteady when bringing beer to the room and almost spilled it, the price of a drink not on the menu was unknown until checkout and turned out to be higher than expected, and there was noticeable dirt in the water tank of the toilet in the room. However, their dedication to hospitality and ensuring a pleasant stay made for a very comfortable two days.

    Beyond expectations

    Corner Room with Japanese-Western style, offering exceptional comfort for two guests. The amenities in the women's bath were impressively well-stocked, a great point for those with dry skin. Meals were beautifully presented on elegant dishes, showcasing thoughtful attention to detail. It was slightly disappointing that the room amenities did not include lotion or moisturizer, but everything else was satisfying!

    A Long-Awaited Visit to Kinugawa Onsen

    We enjoyed a relaxing stay as a couple at Kinugawa Onsen after many years. The warm welcome upon arrival, matcha and sweets in the lobby, and the courteous guidance to our room were all excellent. Dinner was perfect in both quantity and taste, with a seasonal touch that made for a satisfying experience. Breakfast was also hearty yet delicious, and we especially loved the fresh eggs, which allowed us to enjoy egg-over-rice like never before. Although the building feels old, the room was impeccably clean, and the spacious bath let us fully enjoy the Onsen atmosphere.

    Hand-held?

    We stayed here to celebrate a family occasion. The staff were very kind and accommodating over the phone prior to our visit, which left a positive impression. As mentioned in the reviews, we were promptly picked up from the station after calling, and both the room and bath were impeccably clean, allowing us to enjoy a comfortable stay. Towels are provided at the bath area, so you can go empty-handed and enjoy the onsen every time. On our first evening, dinner was served by a male staff member who provided detailed explanations of each dish with great care and politeness. His exceptional service left us extremely satisfied, and we even discussed staying here again when visiting Kinugawa in the future. However, on the second evening, dinner was served by an older female staff member whose service was drastically different from that of the previous day—it felt like an entirely different accommodation. There were no explanations about any of the dishes; when we asked what type of sashimi was being served, her response was simply "seasonal sashimi" or "a treat," which gave us the impression that no effort had been made to provide proper information compared to before. The most shocking incident occurred when my father was enjoying his appetizer with some sake—she seemed eager to clear it away quickly and used her bare hands to move leftover appetizers directly onto a paper placemat in front of him. We were stunned into silence by this unimaginable behavior. Having stayed at many accommodations before, this level of unprofessionalism far exceeded anything we could have anticipated. Aside from this incident, everything else about our stay met or exceeded expectations; however, it is deeply regrettable that such an important family celebration ended on such a disappointing note due to this experience.

    Nikko Kinugawa Trip

    This was my first time staying at Sanraku, and it was a very comfortable experience as mentioned in the reviews. Since it was also my mother's birthday, we ordered a fruit platter at the end of dinner. It was very luxurious, and my mother was delighted. Although I originally wanted to order a cake, it couldn't be arranged due to the holiday, which was unfortunate, but we were still very satisfied with the fruit platter. The room was spacious with both beds and a Japanese-style area, which was convenient for my elderly mother. Having meals in a private dining room allowed us to relax and enjoy our time. The drinks after bathing were also delicious. I am truly glad that we stayed at such a wonderful hotel this time. The staff's smiles were lovely as well. Thank you so much! I would love to stay again!

    Very satisfied!

    We stayed here for a three-generation family trip. The meals were delicious, and the portions for upper elementary school children were generous, leaving them full and satisfied. The baths were convenient as towels and other amenities were provided in the large communal bath area, allowing us to enjoy them multiple times without carrying anything. In the women's bath, there was a variety of shampoos and conditioners available, along with skincare products from brands like Chanel and Christian Dior. It was exciting to try out products I had always wanted to use. We would definitely love to stay here again!

    Traditional Ryokan are the best.

    Visited Kinugawa Onsen for the first time in 10 years. Due to high gas prices and my husband wanting to relax with a drink while riding the train, we took the limited express Kinu-gawa. I was surprised by how developed and attractive the shops around Kinugawa Onsen Station have become. The Ryokan was about a 10-minute walk away. Although there was Shuttle Service available, we decided to walk as a stroll, but the cold wave made the chilly wind quite piercing. Upon arrival, we headed straight to the large public bath. It was spacious, clean, and very relaxing. After bathing, we enjoyed complimentary beer along with pickles and shallots—absolutely perfect! Thanks to IKYU's time sale and points, our stay was very affordable; moreover, as Diamond Members, drinks in the fridge were free of charge. The meals were delicious too! It had been a while since we had Room dining—it was great being able to chat freely with family while watching TV without worrying about others around us. One downside: The faucet in the washroom seemed old and wouldn’t stop running at one point—this caused some panic! Still, I’d love to stay at Sanraku again when visiting Kinugawa Onsen next time!

    I felt the thoughtfulness and hospitality.

    The building is old, but the Room was very spacious and allowed for a relaxing stay. The staff were all very kind, and choosing from various yukatas and hanten was enjoyable. We were also satisfied with complimentary beer or juice after bathing. The food was delicious and filling. When we requested private dining, meals were served in a Room on the same floor, making it very convenient for my elderly mother to move around. Additionally, the amenity bags were adorable Japanese-style drawstring pouches with different patterns prepared for us, which made deciding who would use which one a fun experience. We would definitely like to stay here again!

    A property where time flows richly

    The room was very spacious, and we were able to relax. All the staff members were Japanese, which is rare these days, so I felt reassured. The property matched our family's image of an onsen property (luxurious meals, drink service after bathing, etc.) with many other services available. The Koshihikari rice was delicious, and thank you for accommodating our requests for refills in the ohitsu. It's a property we'd like to visit again someday.

    Disappointing Property

    It was a one-night stay. It seemed like there were fewer staff around, possibly due to the off-peak season. The staff were friendly and pleasant, so when I ordered a drink on the rocks at dinner and it was served as a mizuwari (watered down), it felt like just a minor quirk. I thought it might be inevitable that the dishes came out randomly rather than in the order of the menu. What was terrible was the toilet in the Room. It had an ammonia smell like a public restroom. Even service areas these days are better than this. The odor did not disappear even with deodorant; it's unclear whether it's due to sloppy cleaning or years of accumulation splattered on wallpaper, but it was terrible regardless. Combined with stains on the ceiling, it made for quite a miserable stay at this Property. It's disappointing

    I had a relaxing time.

    I was delighted to find a baby crib already prepared when we were shown to our Room. Also, being able to dine in the Room allowed us to enjoy our stay even with a baby. The women's bath had luxurious shampoos and treatments like L'Occitane, which made my wife very happy. It was a Hotel I would love to visit again.

    A Thoughtful Accommodation

    This was our annual trip to visit Nikko Rinnoji Temple with grandparents, parents, and grandchildren. We were most concerned about whether the toddler would disturb other guests (especially during meals), but we were grateful for the private dining room next to our accommodation and the warm hospitality of the staff. The welcome upon arrival reflected the true spirit of Japanese hospitality. The room, which is often a concern in ryokans (especially regarding bathroom odors), was completely odor-free and refreshing. The scenic view of Kinugawa from our room was also magnificent. We look forward to visiting again in a different season!

    Traveling with a 3-Year-Old

    I traveled alone with my 3-year-old son for the first time, and to sum it up, I was extremely satisfied!! I love Nikko and Kinugawa, and I've also visited places like Fufu and Kanaya in Kinugawa. The food here was the most delicious. Even though they don't use obvious luxury ingredients, every little dish was incredibly tasty and impressive. The dobin-mushi used shiitake mushrooms instead of matsutake, but somehow it tasted even better than matsutake—it left me momentarily confused! As for the dessert at the end, I initially thought "just mitarashi dango?" but then I was surprised by how delicious it was! The building is old but doesn't feel unpleasant at all. It felt very calming. The room was spacious enough for my child to run around and play hide-and-seek—it was so much fun! The shuttle service staff were very considerate; even though it was just me and my son, they promptly provided transportation for us. Next time, I definitely want to visit again with my husband or mother. There’s nothing negative about this place at all; however, as a suggestion: having loungewear in addition to yukata would make sleeping much more comfortable. Many accommodations now provide sweatpants or pajamas as well—they are incredibly convenient when available!

    We had a relaxing time as a couple. The dinner was exceptional, featuring appetizers, Tochigi Wagyu beef, fried shrimp, and delicious white rice. The staff member who served us was very friendly and provided detailed explanations with a warm smile. The bath area was slightly chilly at the washing stations, but I enjoyed having the sauna to myself for some quiet time. The shampoo provided included L'Occitane and other high-quality products that left my hair feeling smooth. In the dressing room, I appreciated using Chanel lotion and cream as well as a facial steamer, which made my skin feel wonderfully hydrated. At checkout, we were able to take hot coffee to go. As we departed, the staff waved goodbye until we were out of sight. Thank you for making our stay so pleasant until the very end!

    A creative and innovative Onsen Ryokan

    Thank you for the ema from Nikko Toshogu Shrine and the castella from the accommodation! I had a great time participating in the New Year's mini concert and rock-paper-scissors tournament hosted by the accommodation.

    Check-in was a warm experience with matcha and traditional sweets served in the lobby. There were various drink services offered throughout the day, so it was never boring. The room was spacious, clean, and soundproof from neighboring rooms. The meals were delicious with just the right portions. The bath included a sauna, cold bath, open-air bath, and well-equipped amenities such as beauty devices. Additionally, with a late check-out time of 10:30 AM and access to the onsen until 10:00 AM, guests can enjoy bathing both before and after breakfast. This allowed us to fully enjoy the accommodation's hospitality until the very last moment of our stay. Thank you for your warm send-off with smiles and waves; all staff members were kind and attentive. Minus one point for facilities due to an older exterior appearance—that’s all!

    We stayed at this Ryokan for our annual year-end family trip. The interior had a charming and historical atmosphere. The Room was very spacious, impeccably clean, and allowed us to relax comfortably. Even in the large Room, the heating worked very well, so it wasn't cold at all. However, due to the season, the air was quite dry; having a humidifier would have made our stay even more comfortable. The selection of lotions and shampoos in the large public bath was delightful for women and made choosing products enjoyable. We will definitely stay here again. Thank you very much!

    After a long walk at...

    After a long walk at Ryuo Gorge, we returned to the station by bus and were picked up. Since our feet were tired, the check-in process on the sofa by the window along with matcha and traditional sweets was much appreciated. We enjoyed choosing yukata before heading to our room. The Japanese-Western style room was spacious and relaxing, offering a stunning view of the gorge and mountains through large windows. The Onsen water was clear but very pleasant. Unfortunately, due to privacy screens from the hotel across, we couldn't see the gorge from the windows. The bathroom had a variety of skincare products from different brands, including horse oil and hyaluronic acid, which I also used on my body. When I couldn't find paper cups for the water dispenser, a staff member kindly assisted me. The post-bath complimentary drink included beer paired with wine-pickled shallots and pickles as snacks. Dinner featured delicious dishes such as Tochigi beef grilled on a ceramic plate and taro shrimp root dishes that were delightful. We had an extremely relaxing stay overall! Upon departure, we received bottled water; however, it would have been more convenient if it had been placed in our room's refrigerator beforehand.

    The dry sweets and matcha at check-in were very delicious. The room was spacious and quiet, allowing for a relaxing stay. It would have been better if there was at least one bottle of water in the refrigerator. The in-room dining was very satisfying, although the smell of grilled meat lingered a bit. The staff's dedication was evident in their service. The bath was also clean, but I got slightly anxious about the limited number of bath towels available (though they didn't run out). I heard it used to be a recreation facility for Daiwa House; while the building is old, its solid construction compared to its surroundings made sense. There seemed to be no foreign guests or groups, making it very quiet. I took a walk but found nothing much around, so I relaxed by enjoying the onsen in my room. At checkout, they prepared coffee for us to take out on our way to Nikko; it only takes about 30 minutes to get there, which is convenient due to its proximity.

    Family trip with mother-in-law

    We used it for a family trip with my mother-in-law. The staff who assisted us was very accommodating, and we were able to relax. However, my wife mentioned that she was concerned about the smell in the Room (sewer odor).
