    Luxurious, silky Onsen like a lotion

    I had always wanted to visit Kasansouen, which often comes up when searching for an Onsen with excellent water quality, and I decided to go there on the second day of my Tohoku trip. Although it is a large Ryokan, it was very quiet during my stay, and I could enjoy the Onsen in the large public bath almost all to myself. In the room, there was no noise from the hallway or upper floors; I enjoyed a tranquil time soaking in the silky private bath while admiring the natural scenery from the window. The large public bath provided towels and other amenities, allowing me to go empty-handed and alternate between enjoying both my room's Onsen and the public one multiple times with ease. The staff maintained a perfect balance of attentiveness without being intrusive; they were well-trained and created a warm atmosphere with their hospitality. In particular, our assigned attendant brought us a pamphlet filled with sightseeing spots in Iwate Prefecture for our next day's plans—it was incredibly helpful! We even changed our itinerary to visit Miyako on that day where we got to enjoy fresh sea urchin for the first time. Since we visited during peak cherry blossom season this time, I would love to return again during another season at this wonderful accommodation.

    Stay After Cherry Blossom Viewing

    The hospitality, facilities, rooms, and baths were all clean, quiet, and comfortable. The meals were also delicious. It felt like a ryokan for adults, and I was extremely satisfied.

    The best Onsen accommodation I revisited in the shortest time.

    I stayed here last week and had such a comfortable experience that I decided to stay again during my business trip to Mizusawa-Esashi the following week. Although it was not a multiple night stay, I was touched by the thoughtful gesture of serving different dishes for breakfast and dinner compared to my previous visit. To be honest, the first impression from last week was so overwhelming that I found the previous menu more delicious. However, the rice was exceptionally tasty, and I enjoyed asking for seconds during breakfast. Thank you for the wonderful meal! I overheard an elegant couple who seemed to be on a multiple night stay saying, "Yesterday's meal was delicious, but today's is just as delightful," which made me dream of experiencing a multiple night stay myself someday. The demeanor of guests staying at an accommodation reflects its image directly. During my visit, all other guests were refined and calm, making it very pleasant to share the same space with them. The staff members were also impressive; those serving in the restaurant carried out their duties gracefully and quietly—something I truly admired. Even taxi drivers or locals familiar with Tohoku would exclaim with delight when they heard I stayed at Kashoen: "At THAT Kashoen!? It's such a high-grade place! How wonderful!" Their reactions made me feel genuinely happy about my choice of accommodation. The onsen was incredibly relaxing no matter how many times I entered it—I even woke up in the middle of the night at 3:30 AM just to enjoy another soak after using a massage chair to unwind completely before taking another nap in blissful comfort (note: bath cleaning hours are from 1 AM–3 AM). Since this trip was for business purposes, unfortunately, I couldn't explore Hanamaki Onsen's attractions at all this time around. Next time though, I'd love to take walks or try out baths at other hotels nearby as well! This is definitely a place worth visiting across different seasons!

    Exquisite and attentive hospitality

    This was our first time staying as a family of six. It was a long-awaited trip with my daughter and her husband, who returned from the U.S., and we are glad we chose Kasuien. The staff's smiles and attentive service were wonderful. Since my elderly mother joined us, they arranged for a private dining room, and when we informed them in advance about my son-in-law's food preferences, the chef kindly accommodated us, making every dish delicious. The meals featured seasonal ingredients with exquisite presentation and taste, allowing us to fully enjoy the essence of spring. The leftover sakura shrimp rice was even made into rice balls for us to enjoy as a late-night snack—truly delightful! We were deeply moved by the meticulous hospitality that is uniquely Japanese. However, I must mention one disappointment: despite informing them in advance about two family members' birthdays, there were no surprises prepared for the occasion. That aside, we had an amazing time together as a family and left completely satisfied. We would love to stay here again!

    Extremely comfortable with excellent Onsen! A delicious Onsen Accommodation!

    I chose this accommodation for my business trip because of its highly-rated reviews. The shuttle service to the accommodation passed through a quiet countryside residential area, making me wonder, "Is there really an onsen resort here?" Upon arrival, I was greeted by a spacious lobby that marked the beginning of an extraordinary experience. As I was traveling alone, I stayed in a single room. The room size was standard, but the bed's mattress was soft and comfortable. The TV allowed access to YouTube as well. A coffee machine capable of brewing coffee, tea, and Japanese tea—usually found in premium rooms at other hotels—was provided as a standard amenity here. To my surprise, drinks and snacks like salami in the room's refrigerator were complimentary! There were also yukata with various patterns to choose from; however, I found the samue (traditional Japanese loungewear) very comfortable to wear. The heated flooring in the changing area of the bathhouse amazed me again! Free water bottles were available near both the changing area and sauna entrance. The silky smooth onsen water truly lived up to its reputation—it felt luxurious. Next to the large communal bath was a relaxation room where complimentary Calpis drinks were offered—a delightful touch! Two massage chairs were available along with fresh bath towels provided as part of their facilities. Everything you could wish for during your stay seemed thoughtfully prepared—it felt like they had written "the ultimate hospitality guidebook" based on their exceptional facilities. Even before mentioning meals, I already felt completely satisfied—but then came dinner! It was elegantly presented and absolutely delicious with generous portions that left nothing more to desire. Breakfast too exceeded expectations with its wonderful flavors. Inspired by how good everything tasted under their head chef’s care—I decided to purchase some souvenirs such as frozen motsunabe (offal hot pot) or gyutan chili oil from their shop; these are bound not disappoint either! They even offer Osechi (New Year’s dishes), which I'll definitely order for year-end celebrations. Having stayed at numerous hotels and ryokans over time—this onsen accommodation stands out among all others as one-of-a-kind perfection! Next time around—I plan bringing along family members so they can enjoy it too! This is truly an exceptional place worth traveling all way down Hanamaki just experience staying here—you won’t need pajamas nor bottled water since everything necessary already awaits guests upon arrival!

    It was somewhat unsatisfactory.

    Passing through the large gate and past the towering group of large Ryokans, we found Kasuien at the very end. The Onsen in the room and the public bath were as expected—silky smooth and very relaxing. However, the bathroom in our room felt cramped; while the bathtub was large, it made the washing area feel tight and a bit claustrophobic. The window only opened about 20 centimeters, so it didn’t quite feel like a semi-open-air bath. As for meals, there wasn’t anything particularly outstanding (though Maesawa beef was delicious), so they felt average overall. We had high expectations due to good reviews but were slightly disappointed; however, all of the staff members, including our attendant, provided excellent service. Thank you very much!

    We had a wonderful trip.

    We stayed as a group of four women on a family trip. Despite the increase in accommodations with reduced services since COVID, our luggage was carried to the room, and tea was even prepared for us. The room felt a bit old but was clean and well-maintained. The meals, late-night rice balls, bath, post-bath drinks, unlimited towels, ReFa hairdryer—everything exceeded our expectations. However, one disappointment was the room's refrigerator. The complimentary beer we had after bathing wasn’t cold. We were looking forward to enjoying chilled beer after the bath, so it was a bit of a letdown. Still, everything else was excellent. Next time we plan to stay for two nights and relax more. Thank you very much!

    The smooth Onsen was amazing!

    I was impressed by the silky texture of the Onsen water that seemed to soak into my skin. I enjoyed a very relaxing time, taking multiple baths in both the large public bath and the semi-open-air bath in the room. The attentiveness of the staff who guided us to our room and served meals there was truly wonderful—thank you so much. As someone who takes monthly Onsen trips, one small regret is that about 70% of Onsen Hotels offer a warm send-off when arriving at or leaving their parking lot. I felt just a tiny bit (really just a little) lonely when leaving, but please don’t worry about it!

    Onsen is the best!

    I stayed for three nights. Upon arriving at the accommodation, I was surprised to find that although I had booked a twin room with a semi-open-air bath, the bathtub in the bathroom was not filled with water, and I had to open the plug and fill it myself. While I often reserve rooms with open-air baths during my travels, this was my first time having to fill the bath myself. After a long journey, I was looking forward to soaking in an onsen right away. Filling the bath took quite some time, so I ended up going to the public bath instead. However, getting to the public bath required walking quite a distance, which was challenging for elderly guests. Additionally, in the semi-open-air bathroom, it seemed unclear whether there was proper ventilation as water droplets clung all over—on the ceiling, walls, and windows—and while soaking in the onsen water droplets would fall from above. It would have been better if there were screens on windows for ventilation. The onsen itself lived up to its reviews; it had a smooth texture and felt wonderful on my skin. Meals were served in-room so we could enjoy them at our own pace. The food itself felt average—not particularly outstanding but not disappointing either. The staff members were all very kind and pleasant. A special thanks goes out to one staff member who attended us throughout our three-day stay—thank you so much! Your constant smile and willingness to accommodate our requests without hesitation were greatly appreciated. Wishing you continued health and success!

    I fully enjoyed a relaxing time at the Onsen.

    I have visited several times, and once again, I was able to relax thoroughly. Above all, the hot spring water is excellent. The temperature of the open-air bath was just right. It seems the head chef changed a few years ago, and the cuisine has improved significantly. The use of tableware is also impressive. Additionally, I truly enjoyed my conversation with the attendant who took care of us. I received warm and thoughtful hospitality. I look forward to visiting again.

    A Highly Satisfying Onsen Trip

    The silky smooth Onsen (PH 9.0) is exceptional, surrounded by ancient red pine forests offering complete tranquility and satisfaction. The guest rooms are clean, and the Facility, hospitality, and service are impeccable. Meals over the three days—both breakfast and lunch—were outstanding in quality, quantity, taste, and presentation; truly the pinnacle of luxury. Having traveled to numerous Onsen across the whole country, giving an all-5 rating for everything is extremely rare. Please continue this excellence!

    I will visit again if there is a machine.

    The bath and hot water were great, but the meals were truly delicious. Often, when the price goes up, beef tends to be overly fatty and less enjoyable. However, the shabu-shabu beef here had just the right amount of marbling and was incredibly tasty. From appetizers to rice and dessert, every dish had a unique touch that impressed me. I would love to stay here again if I have the chance.

    The most wonderful Ryokan I have ever stayed at.

    I stayed here once about 60 years ago, and now the building has been renovated into a wonderful Ryokan. True to its name, it is surrounded by a beautiful red pine forest, offering a very tranquil atmosphere with modern facilities. The food was delicious and thoughtfully prepared, and the temperature of the Onsen bath was perfect. I was surprised by how the dressing room lockers were arranged—not tightly packed but spaced out alternately. Who came up with such an idea? Unfortunately, as I only stayed for one night, I didn’t have time to take a walk around the area. I believe staying for two or more nights would allow you to appreciate its charm even more.

    First stay in Iwate.

    We stayed here for our visit to Chusonji Temple, and everything was exceptional, as expected from a luxury Ryokan—room, cuisine, Onsen, and hospitality. Complimentary coffee in the lobby, Calpis in the post-bath salon, free beverages in the refrigerator, and Shuttle Service to sister facilities and the bakery were all delightful touches. Next time, we plan to explore the world of Kenji Miyazawa.

    Everything is excellent.

    The cuisine, hot springs, Facility, and meticulous cleaning were all excellent, but what stood out the most was the thoughtful care of each staff member. It wasn’t the “manualized hospitality” often felt at major luxury chains but rather the subtle and natural attentiveness that comes from true professionals. I felt truly comforted by this and look forward to visiting again with my family next time.

    A great accommodation for my first visit to Tohoku.

    First trip to Tohoku. While searching for accommodation in Hanamaki, we chose this place because it allows small children, offers spacious rooms, and serves dinner in the room. During the taxi ride there, the driver mentioned that this is a special place among Hanamaki Onsen accommodations, which made us a bit nervous as we checked in. Although it was just a one-night stay, we were delighted with the delicious meals that exceeded our expectations, the soothing onsen water, and the kind staff who made our stay very comfortable. The courtyard bonfire amidst the snow was magical—an atmosphere like no other. The service was exceptional: complimentary water as well as alcoholic and soft drinks in the room; water and soft drinks available at the onsen; coffee served at the lounge—every corner of this facility offered thoughtful hospitality. The onsen provided various types of shampoo and body soap to choose from according to preference. The hairdryer was Refa brand. Baby chairs and baby baths were also available for families with children to use comfortably. Guests could select their preferred yukata design along with their own pair of sandals—a truly personalized experience filled with attention to detail. It was an incredibly satisfying stay overall. I would love to visit Hanamaki again just so I can stay here once more!

    It was excellent.

    I stayed for two nights with my mother and a friend from Morioka. Everything was perfect, and the thoughtful touches throughout made this accommodation truly wonderful. We also tried the baths at a related hotel, each with its own charm, but the bath at Kasuien was our favorite, so we used it multiple times. The amenities, towels, and beverages were plentiful. The service from all staff members was exceptional. The staff member in charge of our room had an adorable smile and provided kind and pleasant service. The highlight of our stay was definitely the food. Both mornings and evenings featured completely different menus over two days, each dish delicious enough to enjoy even when full without getting tired of it. From appetizers to desserts, every dish was outstanding and left us deeply impressed—the presentation, flavors, and even the tableware were exquisite. This is the first time I’ve experienced such amazing meals at an accommodation. I would love to return in another season to try more dishes by the head chef. The facility itself is beautiful—quiet yet bright—and the view from the windows looked like a painting. From start to finish, we had an incredibly pleasant time here. We will definitely visit again someday! Thank you very much!

    A wonderful accommodation offering attentive services to soothe both body and mind.

    I stayed with my husband in a Western-style room with a semi-open-air bath for one night. It was my first time experiencing in-room dining in a Western-style room, but we were able to enjoy delicious meals leisurely at the table in the room. The variety of amenities provided in the room and large public bath was impressive, and thoughtful services like complimentary drinks available in the lobby, large public bath, and the refrigerator inside the guest rooms were delightful. Above all, the staff's hospitality was truly outstanding. Soaking in the silky Onsen not only healed my body but also brought peace to my mind through the beautifully arranged flowers subtly placed throughout the rooms and hallways. Although we had planned to visit "Kamabuchi Waterfall" during our morning walk but had to cancel due to snow accumulation, we instead enjoyed breathtaking snowy views from both the courtyard and large public bath. While it is not inexpensive, I found it highly satisfying and would love to revisit this wonderful accommodation if given another opportunity.

    Silky Smooth Onsen

    Meals are served in the room, allowing you to enjoy your food at a relaxed pace. Breakfast is served in the dining area, but the spacious setting ensures privacy and comfort. The Onsen features silky smooth water that you can enjoy as many times as you'd like. Complimentary water and juice were also available, which was much appreciated.

    The quality of the Onsen, the cuisine, and the air conditioning—everything was simply excellent. I had completely forgotten that the Onsen here has a different water quality compared to other facilities on the same premises, and I hadn't visited for a while. Yes! When this place first opened, I tried the Onsen and realized it was unique here... but somehow forgot about it. Even when invited with praises of how delicious the cuisine is, I used to decline—how regretful! Now, I want to visit every month and fully enjoy it! The comfortable sleeping experience is also a big plus.

    With my father and mother

    My mother, who has difficulty walking, expressed her desire to visit an onsen with a room bath, and after researching online, we found Kasyouen. Although it was a bit pricey, it was a satisfying property. The 24-hour flowing onsen bath is excellent. If I had to say something, I think the price for the third person (which is me) could be a little cheaper.

    It was excellent.

    The Room was spacious, and the bath made my skin smooth. Dinner was served in the Room, and it was very delicious with a wide variety of dishes. Breakfast was taken in the dining hall, and it was also delicious. The service was good, and I recommend it.

    Healing

    I really love the quality of the spring water. It was slightly alkaline and made my skin smooth. I was happy with the showerhead, and it was nice to be able to choose my favorite shampoo and other items. As for the food, it could have had a bit more seasonal feel. The local dish "Hittsumi" was thick, lacked smoothness, and the broth was cloudy, so I didn't find it very tasty. It was quite disappointing. In the dining area, there were people coughing which made me very concerned. With influenza going around, I think some consideration like having separate rooms would have been good. The room was very dry with static electricity being a big concern for me. The humidification from the air purifier wasn't nearly enough at all. I've written various things but I'm looking forward to my next stay at Stays.

    We stayed for one ni...

    We stayed for one night and two days. The room was spacious with three rooms, and having two toilets was appreciated. The room had a wide variety of drinks, and the amenities were well-stocked. It was helpful to have showers in both the indoor bath and the semi-open-air bath. The meals were delicious, especially the dinner, which featured many local ingredients. The breakfast was a typical Japanese meal and felt a bit lacking. It was nice to have coffee in the lounge in the morning, but it would have been even better if we could have had drinks in the lounge at night. We went to the bar at night, but we were a bit surprised by the table charge and service fee, which were unexpectedly high (the cost of one drink per person). It can't be helped given the limited seating... We often go to bars at other properties, but there were no additional costs besides the drinks, or there was free alcohol provided in the first place... Aside from the bar, we were very satisfied and had an enjoyable stay. Thank you very much.

    The large screen view of the autumn leaves from the public bath is superb. The cuisine was elegant and delicious. Despite being a long-established property, it was clean and felt like a new building.

    The property had a wonderful onsen.

    It was my first solo trip to Tono and Hanamaki. The nature and the history of the area were wonderful, and I entered the property with high expectations. The onsen water exceeded my expectations. The atmosphere of the property was also charming, and I was able to truly relax even on a solo trip. Next time, I would like to take a little more time to visit this area and this property.
