    Very good accommodation.

    We stayed here in both August and September. The service, meals, Onsen, and room were all excellent. In August, we brought our young grandchild along, and the staff member in charge of our room provided exceptional care. Having visited various Onsen across the whole country, this place stands out for its warm and personable hospitality. We hope you continue to maintain this level of service! We look forward to visiting again within the year!

    The staff's hospitality is outstanding!!

    Due to a typhoon, the Shinkansen was delayed, and our arrival at the accommodation was late. However, the staff were incredibly kind and attentive, even saving dinner for us. The onsen was wonderfully soothing, the food was delicious, and the room was clean and peaceful. The large public bath had towels and amenities available, with Calpis in the rest area and mineral water provided after using the sauna. There is a rose garden nearby as well as group hotels where you can spend your time meaningfully. We look forward to visiting again. Thank you very much!

    I enjoyed a peaceful...

    I enjoyed a peaceful and spacious stay at this wonderful Ryokan. One thing I noticed was the strong flavor of the meals. While it might be perfect for those who enjoy alcohol, for non-drinkers, combinations like simmered dishes and seasoned rice felt slightly too rich.

    The Onsen and the room were excellent.

    I have been traveling across the whole country and staying at various ryokans, but to be honest, I feel this one was a bit below its price point. Good Points: - The hot spring water was silky and smooth, truly amazing. - The room cleaning was thorough. - Despite being surrounded by nature, insect prevention measures were well done, making it comfortable. - Amenities were abundant, with plenty of towels readily available in the room for convenience. - Meal intervals and portions were adjusted perfectly so even those with small appetites could finish their meals. - Diamond member benefits were very worthwhile. - The woman who saw us off upon departure was very polite. Bad Points: - Although I informed them of my food preferences over the phone, they got it reversed between male and female guests. Also, during the call, their responses like "uh-huh" felt odd—perhaps due to dialect—but it left an impression of discomfort. Even on internal hotel calls, their tone made me feel slightly mocked due to intonation issues perhaps? - While this might be attributed to local characteristics, customer service felt gloomy & awkward at times; there were too many things unclear unless we asked ourselves—it came across as a bit unfriendly overall! Explanations about dishes or serving methods seemed somewhat careless too; for instance not noticing beef fat included on plates leading us accidentally grilling directly without realizing beforehand etc., plus lack clarity regarding room-service timing info either verbally nor written anywhere made understanding difficult unnecessarily so! - Breakfast served wasn’t warm anymore which disappointed greatly unfortunately

    It's amazing how well-maintained and clean it is.

    I stayed here 20 years ago, and I was amazed at how well-maintained and beautiful the accommodation still is. While it’s natural for some wear to occur over time, it’s clear that proper repairs have been made, which is truly impressive. From the entrance, the building appears to be a single-story structure, but it’s cleverly designed with the entrance on the fourth floor by utilizing the slope of the land—a testament to thoughtful architecture. In the courtyard, there are four bonfires surrounded by carefully arranged stones that maintain their pattern without disruption. It seems they are lit daily with great care. Twenty years ago, we were young and felt nervous staying here as if we were reaching beyond our means. Now, after all these years, we can enjoy an authentic stay that feels just right for us. Reflecting on this after returning home fills me with joy. The staff were kind-hearted and genuine people. The beautifully arranged flowers remain a charming touch that hasn’t changed over time. We stayed for two nights; dinner on the second night was absolutely delicious! I would love to visit again someday.

    It was a wonderful time.

    I was initially hesitant about staying at a large ryokan, but the staff member in charge of our room was incredibly charming, and we had a wonderful time. Although young, they were well-trained, had a lovely smile, and provided excellent meal service. The in-room dining was carefully prepared and both enjoyable and delicious. As this stay was part of our journey from Chūson-ji Temple and I am not an onsen enthusiast, I only used the private bath in the room. I was surprised that each time I wanted to bathe, I needed to prepare the bath myself since my impression of indoor onsen baths is usually free-flowing hot spring water. However, this might be unavoidable for such a large facility. The staff member left such a positive impression that it defined my entire experience at the ryokan. Thank you very much for your excellent service! Please keep up the great work!

    Family Trip

    We visited with three generations of our family. My mother uses a wheelchair, so we wanted a room with a private open-air bath, but unfortunately, it was fully booked. However, the large public bath had a shower chair available, which was incredibly helpful. My mother thoroughly enjoyed the spacious bath and open-air onsen, making it a very enjoyable trip for all of us. The water was silky smooth and felt amazing as well. Next time, I’ll bring my husband along! Thank you for your hospitality.

    An accommodation you would want to visit again.

    In 2023, I stayed at this accommodation with friends and thought it was wonderful, so this time I stayed with my husband for our 25th wedding anniversary trip. We were delighted to receive a pair of chopsticks as a silver wedding anniversary gift. Thank you very much. We chose a room with an open-air bath, and the spacious room and bath allowed us to enjoy a luxurious experience. The food was delicious, and the bonfire in the courtyard was magical and beautiful. We would love to visit again!

    We had an incredibly luxurious experience!

    I had always wanted to visit Kashoen, and we stayed there for a long-awaited trip as a couple. The high quality of the silky Onsen water and the abundance of amenities made it a wonderful experience that soothed both body and mind. Dinner was served in our room, while breakfast was enjoyed at the dining area. The dishes incorporated many ingredients from Iwate, each with an elegant taste that left us very satisfied. My wife was delighted as well! At the bar, sipping whiskey while watching the garden's bonfire became a moment of pure bliss. The charm and elegance of this Ryokan, along with the warm hospitality and smiles from all staff members, as well as the well-maintained rooms, Onsen, and facilities overall, made this trip truly satisfying. Lastly, I realized at Shin-Hanamaki Station that I had forgotten my phone charging cable in our room. Despite causing trouble for them, they responded kindly and promptly sent it to me. Seeing it arrive by courier when we got home brought another smile to my face. For those looking to spend peaceful time surrounded by nature, this is an exceptional Ryokan. I look forward to visiting again in another season. Thank you so much!

    Highly Recommended

    I have visited various Onsen Ryokans, but Kasatsuen is one of the most highly recommended. Surrounded by lush greenery, it feels like a different world that refreshes your spirit. Both the Onsen and meals were excellent, and the attentive hospitality was simply outstanding.

    It was an absolutely wonderful stay.

    I stayed here with my parents for a trip. The cuisine, Onsen, and the hospitality of the staff were exceptionally wonderful, making this the best Ryokan I have ever visited. The attention to detail truly made our stay enjoyable and relaxing. I would love to visit this Ryokan again if I have the chance. Thank you very much!

    The Onsen is excellent.

    We arrived late at night but were warmly welcomed. The onsen was excellent, and we enjoyed multiple baths. The water left our skin smooth and hydrated, which was amazing. After bathing, orange juice and water were provided, along with a massage chair for relaxation. The breakfast was delicious, making it a wonderful ryokan overall. This was our second stay here, and we look forward to visiting this ryokan again.

    Family Trip

    I visited with my son and his spouse. The entrance was very clean, and the spacious lobby was impressive. The meals served in the room were all delicious, and we were very satisfied. The bath we had been looking forward to was also excellent; the changing area was well-maintained, and everything from shampoo to body soap was provided, so there was no need to bring anything. If I have the chance to visit Iwate again, I would love to stay here. Thank you very much!

    I visit regularly.

    I regularly visit either alone or with my family. Every time I come, the quality is truly worthy of a "reward trip." The meals are exquisite, both visually and in taste. I am captivated by the Onsen water and end up bathing five times during a one-night stay. Whether it's thoughtful consideration or coincidence, I've never encountered families with small children here. Perhaps the floors are separated? I feel the same about the breakfast venue. Small children can sometimes make things noisy, but thanks to this thoughtfulness, I can always enjoy my meals quietly and peacefully. This was the first reason why I became fond of Kashoen. The design and ambiance of this accommodation suit my preferences perfectly. It’s truly a place where I can relax alone, and I don’t even want to look for another option—Kashoen is my only choice. I have already made a reservation for year-end as well. Just like last year, I'll be spending the end of this year here. I look forward to continuing our long relationship in the future!

    Enjoy a Relaxing Journey in Your Golden Years

    I was delighted to find complimentary beer and water in the refrigerator. It was convenient not having to go back to the Room for my wallet or wander around looking for a vending machine after a bath. Additionally, the unexpected Oni Kenbai performance at night became a memorable part of my trip.

    The Room and schedul...

    The Room and schedule I wanted didn’t match, so it had been a while since my last visit to Kashoen... but as always, the hot spring was amazing. I ended up soaking in it multiple times. I planned to take a bath right after check-in, but unfortunately, there was no water in the tub at that time. It’s been some time since my last visit, so I’m not sure when it changed, but I was impressed that the hairdryer is now ReFa. It was wonderful! The staff in charge of our Room were very pleasant, and we enjoyed our meal thoroughly. The food was delicious; however, for me personally, the portion size felt slightly too much... If there is a Plan with smaller portions for this Room type available next time, I would like to choose that option. I look forward to visiting again and spending another relaxing stay!

    The hot water and meals were excellent.

    We stayed as sisters and had an exceptional experience at this accommodation. Due to our misunderstanding, we didn’t realize that meals were typically served in the room, which caused some inconvenience. However, the staff kindly prepared a separate room for us to enjoy our meal at ease. We usually avoid in-room dining because it can be uncomfortable with cold dishes and having to wait while futons are being laid out afterward. Thanks to their thoughtful arrangement, we could savor the chef’s deliciously seasoned dishes served in beautiful tableware in a separate space. The bath was incredibly smooth and allowed us to fully enjoy its skin-beautifying properties. The preparation of coffee and water was also impeccable—everything about this accommodation was perfect.     A traditional yet modernly equipped Onsen Ryokan, providing a comfortable stay. The staff's hospitality, the silky-smooth Onsen, and the cuisine were all absolutely satisfying. The room was equipped with an air purifier and impeccably clean. Drinks in the refrigerator were complimentary, and plenty of delicious water was provided. The aroma throughout the facility created a relaxing atmosphere, making it a wonderful accommodation worth revisiting. During our stay, we enjoyed the Hanamaki Onsen Rose Festival with shuttle service provided to admire the breathtaking full-bloom roses.

    It was a wonderful R...

    It was a wonderful Ryokan. The building was spacious and relaxing considering the number of rooms, and the view from inside during the fresh green season was excellent. The Room was well-cleaned, making our stay very comfortable. The large public bath was spacious, with silky smooth water, and the view from the window was stunning. However, I deducted some points for service because when we arrived at the entrance by car, there was no one to greet us. We had to go to the parking lot ourselves and roll our suitcase back to the entrance. It wasn't until halfway that an older male staff member appeared, only asked for our name without offering to carry our luggage. This surprised me as it left a poor first impression despite being such a great Ryokan overall.

    A long-awaited trip ...

    A long-awaited trip with a friend. Although it rained on the day of arrival, we were able to relax by soaking in the Onsen and enjoying delicious meals. We were fortunate to visit during the rose bath season, and we had an almost private experience surrounded by the fragrance of roses, making for a luxurious time. The spa treatments for both of us together were also very satisfying. These days, meals are often served in dining areas, but having them in our Room felt more private and comfortable. If I may suggest one improvement, it would be great if there was a slightly later departure option for transportation back to the station.

    A Safe and Comfortable Stay

    I stayed at the accommodation again this year following last year. Kasansouen offers reliable and consistent service. Regarding customer service, a trainee was in charge during meal service, so I rated it 4 with encouragement for their future efforts. The meals were delightful, featuring intricately crafted appetizers and delicious meat in the hot pot. While I understand it's Japanese cuisine, during a trip to Tohoku where seafood and Japanese dishes are common, it might be nice to have one Western-style dish included if visiting multiple times. In the pleasant season of May, a trip to lush Iwate Prefecture is refreshing for both body and mind. I look forward to visiting again!

    Comfort at its best

    I have always loved Onsen and often visit with family, friends, or even alone. This time, I had a business trip to Mizusawa-Esashi and decided to take a short detour to Hanamaki Onsen. The soft and silky spring water was incredibly soothing, and I slept soundly after bathing. The building's design allows views of greenery and gardens from everywhere, creating a relaxing atmosphere surrounded by nature. The meals were also delicious, especially the Maesawa beef with sansho hot pot. The bamboo shoot rice made with "Ginga no Shizuku" (a type of rice) cooked in a traditional pot was exceptional as well; they even made the leftovers into rice balls for me to enjoy in my room, which was such a thoughtful gesture. Above all, the staff's hospitality was outstanding, making it an incredibly comfortable accommodation. I will definitely visit again—thank you very much!

    A very lovely Ryokan.

    This was one of the Ryokans I had always wanted to visit. I finally got to go, and it was just as wonderful as I had imagined. The staff welcomed us with warm smiles, making it a very comfortable and relaxing accommodation. The large public bath was always clean and well-maintained by the attentive staff, making it easy to use. It was my first time experiencing the thick Onsen water, and it was incredibly warming and soothing. The meals were served in just the right portions, and everything tasted delicious. I would love to visit this Ryokan again!

    Was it just a series of unfortunate events?

    I chose this accommodation because it had higher ratings compared to the InterContinental. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. I made a reservation through IKYU.com for my newly turned 3-year-old twins under "Child Sharing Existing Bedding." However, when I inquired about preparing simple meals before arrival and mentioned their age, I was told there would be an additional charge of approximately ¥160,000 for two nights. After discussing with the front desk, we agreed on an additional charge of ¥66,000 for meals (breakfast and dinner) for two 3-year-olds over two nights since this information was not listed on IKYU's website. While they explained that this fee covered meal costs, considering the content of the meals provided, paying ¥16,500 per child per meal seemed excessive. Additionally, a souvenir sold at a nearby shop within the same group cost around ¥700 but was priced at ¥1,900 during dinner service—a discovery that left me somewhat taken aback later on. The staff were very attentive and accommodating; having in-room dining was especially helpful as it allowed us to enjoy our meals without worrying about disturbing others with children present. After breakfast on our last day during checkout time, they kindly offered to carry our luggage if we called them beforehand—a thoughtful gesture indeed—but when I called reception during checkout time (twice), no one answered even after about 20 rings each time. In the end, I carried my own luggage down myself. Checkout itself went smoothly afterward; however purchasing items from their shop required calling someone over since it doubled as part of reception—likely due to limited staffing hours. When leaving the hotel premises entirely post-checkout though—not expecting much—it felt odd nobody came outside nor assisted carrying bags into vehicles personally despite being charged such premium rates overall. That said: - The food portions were just right & deliciously prepared! - Onsen facilities included sauna options albeit slightly lower temperature-wise than expected yet thoughtfully equipped w/ water stations nearby too! - Spacious rooms featuring private onsens ensured utmost comfort throughout stay duration alongside complimentary fully-stocked fridges replenished daily unlike some places where multiple-night stays lack refills altogether!
