    The Ryokan rankings have changed.

    I stayed here on short notice, and it was a wonderful Accommodation unlike anything I’ve experienced before. The Room was exceptional, with amenities and complimentary drinks I had never seen before. Both dinner and breakfast featured plenty of local ingredients, and I was very satisfied. Most notably, the Onsen water quality was excellent—silky smooth.

    I think the Onsen is great.

    The Onsen was nice, but the Room was inconvenient. After relaxing in the Onsen and returning to the tatami-mat Room, there was only a low table for sitting on the floor, and meals were served in the Room. So there wasn’t really a comfortable place to sit. The food wasn’t anything special either. I don’t think it was worth 100,000 yen.

    Next time, we’ll come with the whole family.

    Thank you very much for accommodating my daughter’s allergies and picky eating. At her earnest request, this was our first mother-and-daughter trip to Hanamaki to experience the world of Kenji Miyazawa. I’m always concerned about her meals, but we were able to relax and enjoy our stay with complete peace of mind. It was a wonderful Ryokan—24 hours in a day didn’t feel like enough. Next time, we would love to return with my husband, our other daughter, and the whole family. Thank you again.

    I stayed here because I was drawn to the Onsen.

    Many Reviews praised the quality of the hot spring, so we decided to stay here as a stopover on our way to Hakodate. The Shuttle Service was provided, and we were able to relax and enjoy our meals served in our Room. The amenities and loungewear were also more than satisfactory, making for a wonderful sisters’ trip. If I had to mention one thing, the smell in the Room bothered me a little. Other than that, we were very satisfied. Thank you for taking care of us.

    A relaxing Accommodation where you can unwind and recharge

    We stayed here on our way back from visiting family in Aomori. We relaxed in the silky Onsen and enjoyed delicious meals. Even though we arrived by car after 4:00 p.m., you kindly accommodated my husband’s dietary preferences—thank you very much. We also appreciated that you were able to serve dinner at our preferred time. Since we were tired, it was a shame we couldn’t join the evening event. We would love to stay again.

    About Extension Fees

    When I asked to extend checkout by just 30 minutes because I wasn’t feeling well, I was shocked to be told it would cost 5,500 yen per person. After spending a wonderful birthday here, it was disappointing to end the day on that note. I understand it may be your policy, but I wish the terms were a little more accommodating.

    The Onsen was excellent.

    We arrived at the Ryokan in about 30 minutes by Shuttle Service from the Shinkansen station, so access was excellent—it felt much closer than you’d expect for a station one stop before Morioka. The Onsen was just as highly rated by others, and it was wonderful. Their bear-safety measures were thorough, so we felt safe and relaxed. The meals were also delicious. They also provided free car Shuttle Service from the Ryokan to the rose garden in the Hanamaki Onsen grounds, and to a bakery where we wanted to buy lunch for our return Shinkansen trip (since my mother is elderly), which was a huge help. As expected, the famous curry bread and sweet red bean bun—plus the loaf bread—were all delicious! We had a very pleasant stay.

    A quiet, welcoming Onsen Ryokan

    The women’s large public bath was well stocked with amenities, and I appreciated the thoughtful attention to detail. However, I was a bit disappointed that the performance event at Koyokan felt somewhat underwhelming and boring. Also, having to go all the way to the lobby just to drink breakfast coffee felt a little inconvenient.

    Exceptionally silky, wonderfully comfortable hot water

    This Accommodation has outstanding Onsen. I visited this time because I wanted to relax quietly and simply soak in the Onsen. The hinoki indoor bath in the Room also had an amazing fragrance. It isn’t an Onsen, but I ended up using it several times—it was such a soothing bath thanks to the hinoki scent. And above all, the large public bath Onsen. The three Hotels next door—“Senkyukaku,” “Hanamaki,” and “Koyokan”—offer a fun hot-spring hopping experience across all three. However, I was told that “Kashoen” uses a different source spring from those three Hotels. It truly was different—the water is wonderfully silky. Really. It was such pleasant water that you won’t regret trying even once. There’s no need to bring towels from your Room, so there’s no bath basket provided—but everything is available at the baths: towels, amenities, and more. There are also free massage chairs in the post-bath lounge area, and even towels prepared for placing on the chair seats—this Accommodation offers attentive service down to the smallest details. The Room is comfortable as well, and at night torches are lit in the garden, creating a lovely atmosphere. I would definitely like to stay again.

    Quiet and relaxing

    We stayed as a family of four to celebrate my mother’s 92nd birthday. The positive Reviews were the deciding factor.\n This Accommodation is tucked away beyond Hanamaki Onsen, with a beautiful garden surrounded by trees.\n Unfortunately it rained during our stay, but the sight of the rain-soaked greenery was charming and atmospheric.\n The building also felt very well maintained, and we appreciated the quiet, relaxing ambiance.\n Our Room was clean, and the fresh spring greenery outside the window was wonderful. The Facilities were just right—nothing excessive or lacking. We did notice a slight odor in the toilet, but a deodorizer was provided.\n Dinner was served in our Room, so we could enjoy it at a leisurely pace.\n Buffets are common these days, but they can be noisy and require waiting in line, which can be difficult for older guests. Having dinner in the Room meant we didn’t have to worry about others or watch the time. The carefully prepared dishes were more than we could finish.\n Breakfast was served in the dining area, where we enjoyed delicious food in a bright and quiet setting. There were so many side dishes that we left completely full. Afterward, coffee was served in the lounge—not self-service—and staff brought it to us with proper cups and saucers.\n With so many places being self-service these days, it felt like a real luxury.\n The bath water was silky-smooth and left our skin feeling soft. The open-air bath in particular was excellent—spotlessly clean with no fallen leaves drifting in.\n My mother was delighted—not only by the delicious meals and relaxing baths, but also by how wonderful all of the staff were.\n We enjoyed an indulgent stay with attentive service throughout.\n We would love to return if we have another opportunity.

    I’ve been a repeat guest for nearly nine years. This is my first review.

    My wife and I stay here every year—twice a year, in spring and autumn. Why did I decide to write this time? I’ve been seeing various news stories about Iwate Prefecture lately, but the silky-smooth Onsen at Hanamaki Onsen “Kashoen” is simply outstanding—needless to say. This time, we were especially impressed by the meals (we’re impressed every time!), so I’d like to share one highlight: the grilled dancing abalone. It was amazing—an entire large abalone is grilled whole, and you cut it yourself and enjoy it. It’s a bit sad, but it really does “dance.” We each had one and thoroughly enjoyed it. There were no earthquakes or bears. We fully enjoyed our three days and two nights. Thank you very much to everyone at Kashoen. We’ll be back again in autumn.

    The silky Onsen was wonderfully relaxing. We also enjoyed exploring the area. This is an Accommodation we’d love to stay at again—highly recommended.

    It was an accommodation experience worthy of the town of Ihatov.

    Hanamaki was a wonderful town, free of signboards and overhead wires, with beautiful colors. It was a premium accommodation experience worthy of such a place. The Room, meals, and Onsen were all the best I have ever experienced. I will visit again in autumn.

    I enjoy visiting Ons...

    I enjoy visiting Onsen about once a month. This time, I stayed at an Onsen Ryokan to fully enjoy the experience. The Onsen water was silky, the food was delicious, and the Room and service were attentive down to every detail. I was impressed by the wonderful spirit of hospitality at a traditional Japanese inn. The only disappointment was that some of the front desk service felt condescending, which left me uncomfortable. However, perhaps the young proprietress showed kind consideration toward elderly guests, which created a warm atmosphere. Thank you very much.

    It was a wonderful Accommodation, and we enjoyed spring in the Tohoku region.

    On our first couple’s trip to Hanamaki to enjoy the cherry blossoms, we stayed at this wonderful Accommodation. We were both very satisfied, and it became a great memory thanks to the service and meals! The Room was spacious and tastefully designed with a calm atmosphere. The large public Onsen bath was also roomy and relaxing. For dinner, we chose a smaller portion featuring seasonal spring ingredients, and it was just the right amount—we felt perfectly full. The flavors were excellent, everything was delicious, and we also enjoyed the beautiful tableware. The Onsen water felt silky-smooth on the skin and seemed very soothing. The cherry blossoms at Hanamaki Onsen were in full bloom, so we had a lovely walk around the area, and we bought some of the famous anpan to take home. We stayed for one night this time, but we’d love to return in another season.

    The Accommodation was quiet and relaxing, and the hospitality was excellent.

    The Onsen water was silky and left my skin feeling moisturized. The meals were very delicious. The Room was quiet, and I was able to relax comfortably. The Hotel staff provided excellent hospitality, making the stay very pleasant.

    A place you’ll want to come back to again and again!

    Last time, I stayed for just one night with my family, and it felt like such a waste to spend only one night at this wonderful Accommodation—so this time I invited friends and enjoyed a longer stay. My friends, staying here for the first time, were extremely satisfied, and by the last day they were saying they didn’t want to go home and wanted to stay even longer! Every meal was delicious from start to finish, and both my friends and I are big fans of the head chef. We would love to stay again.

    It was very good.

    We visited on a family trip. Lately, we often feel dissatisfied with the service at many Accommodations, but at this Accommodation we had a truly pleasant stay—thank you very much. All of the staff were wonderful, and we felt that attention to detail was evident in many ways. The shampoo bar in the bath was well stocked, with options that were easy for children to use as well as ReFa shampoo. I knew the hair dryer was ReFa, but I didn’t realize you also had ReFa shampoo—I tried it for the first time (and my hair felt so smooth!). The meals were delicious—so much so that I couldn’t understand why they aren’t rated more highly in Reviews. In addition to the flavor, there were thoughtful touches—for example, broad beans had a small slit so they were easier to peel—which made us happy. We were satisfied with both presentation and taste, and even though it was more than we usually finish, it was so good that we ate everything. However, since we stayed two nights, I was disappointed with breakfast on the second morning and lowered my rating by one. There were many small dishes with sweet-and-salty seasoning and a flavor profile that seemed geared toward older guests. The ingredients may have been good, but it looked plain; after being satisfied with breakfast on the first morning, it was a shame. That said, everything else was excellent. Being able to drink bottled water anytime—and freely help ourselves to tea, cola, and even Aquarius—was very appealing. The bath water was silky-smooth; we could relax and were very satisfied! Thank you very much. Iwate is far for us, but this is an Accommodation we would like to visit again. We felt healed by the staff’s smiles and the thoughtful details behind your concept.

    A Solo Trip After a Long Time

    I stayed at this Ryokan because I was planning to visit Hiraizumi and Shin-Hanamaki. I usually choose a Hotel when traveling solo, but this time I wanted to relax in an Onsen, so I chose a Ryokan—and choosing Kashoen was absolutely the right decision. The Onsen, which was my main goal, had wonderful water that really helped my body unwind. I went in three times in total, and since I visited midweek on a weekday, there were few other guests at any time, so I could soak comfortably and freely. I was also happy with how well-stocked the amenities were. There is a sauna in the large public bath area, and I was surprised to find bottles of I LOHAS water prepared near the entrance. I didn’t use them so I didn’t check closely, but it also seemed like there were many types of shampoo available. I’ve stayed at many Ryokan and Hotels before, but it’s rare to find amenities this extensive at this price range. As for the meals, the soup served toward the end was the most delicious. There is also a bar—I was interested, but didn’t have the courage to go alone (lol). The Shuttle Service to and from Hanamaki Station was also very helpful. It seemed to be coordinated in partnership with nearby Ryokan. I’m not sure when I’ll be back in Iwate next time, but if I have another chance to visit, I’d love to stay at Kashoen again.

    Almost perfect.

    I stayed for one night starting 3/14, and the first thing that surprised me was how spacious the Room was! The open, airy space made it easy to relax. As for the meals, we invited local relatives and had dinner with seven people. They carefully accommodated one person’s allergies and disliked ingredients (including at breakfast), so everyone enjoyed a delicious meal together, and our relatives were truly delighted—we were very happy with the experience. Just one thing: The Onsen water quality was excellent, but as Onsen lovers, we were a little disappointed that there was only one large public bath. That said, I rarely write a Review, but everything else considered, it was such a great stay overall that I decided to post this.

    This Accommodation feels designed for adults. With no flashy decorations, it creates a calm atmosphere. The courtyard torches were lit, and in the falling snow it felt truly magical. The Onsen water is silky and thick, like a rich facial lotion.

    It was a wonderful stay.

    We stayed for one night and two days with my wife and our young child. Overall, it was a very satisfying stay for our family. The Onsen lived up to its reputation, and the Facility was clean and well maintained. The Calpis in the post-bath lounge had the same rich taste I remember drinking at a well-off friend’s house as a child, bringing back nostalgia after decades. Every meal was delicious. We also ordered a children’s dinner (5,000 yen), and it was something adults could enjoy as well; it seemed like too much for a toddler, so I ended up finishing it. One small issue was that the height of the desk in our Room didn’t match the height of the child’s chair. I’d like to write more about what happened after dinner, but my child woke up, so I’ll stop here. It was disappointing that the seafood pickles sold at the shop weren’t served at breakfast (we sent them as souvenirs to my parents and my in-laws).

    Staff Service

    No matter when we visit, the staff are always wonderful. Not only the Room attendants, but everyone truly embodies the spirit of hospitality. Even at checkout the next day, when we passed staff in the hallway changing linens for other rooms, they stopped what they were doing and bowed. You don’t see that at other Hotels. I consider Hanamaki Onsen to be among the highest-class properties, and it’s clear that staff training is excellent. The amenities also feel a grade above. Even the bath towels are noticeably thicker than those at typical Hotels. The water is silky-smooth and genuinely relaxing. My wife and I talked about how satisfied we were, feeling truly fulfilled—like we had really been to an Onsen.

    Delicious meals, a great Onsen, and excellent service

    The monthly changing menu featured dishes that truly captured the feeling of spring. Each time a course was served—and each time I opened the lid of a bowl—I was amazed by its beauty, and every bite was pure bliss. I was completely satisfied. The Onsen had a rich, lotion-like texture, and I felt it would be especially appreciated by women. Even for men, it works wonderfully on dry winter skin. Both the attendants and the front desk staff were extremely attentive, making my stay very comfortable. Thank you very much.

    The hospitality could be improved.

    We chose a Room with an open-air bath. As others have mentioned, we were confused by the style of entering the living area with shoes on. It’s clear that a lot has been invested in the Facility, but we’ve stayed elsewhere at the same price with a more atmospheric open-air bath and were very satisfied, so this was disappointing. Also, despite the Facility, the Hotel staff’s lack of professionalism stood out. From start to finish, explanations from the Room attendant, front desk, and breakfast venue staff were insufficient and vague. There was no proactive guidance on essential information such as Shuttle Service times or when bedding would be laid out; for many other things as well, nothing was explained unless we asked. Explanations also contradicted each other—when we asked to confirm something because it didn’t seem right, we were casually told, “Oh yes, you’re right—that was wrong,” and it was simply reversed. The overall carelessness was unpleasant. On top of that, while there was no proactive or thoughtful hospitality, they were quick to call if breakfast or checkout ran late. It felt like they only became proactive when it came to rushing guests. At checkout, even though we weren’t driving and had already missed the Shuttle Service time, there wasn’t even a brief word about public transportation options; they quickly disappeared into the back. We ended up leaving from an unattended entrance. You could call it “keeping an appropriate distance,” but it clearly felt like they weren’t thinking about guests at all—just that many staff members lacked attentiveness and had a different idea of hospitality. The food isn’t bad, but it’s average. When a server brought a new dish and noticed my tray was full with nowhere to place it, she used fingers from the same hand holding the new dish to push my finished plate off my tray with a loud clatter to make space before setting down the next dish. I was genuinely shocked by such poor manners. Why not use her other hand or clear empty plates first? It made me realize what level of Accommodation this is. It doesn’t match the price point, and I won’t be returning.

    It was wonderful.

    It was a spacious, clean Ryokan where we could relax and unwind. These days it’s rare, but all the staff were Japanese, and everyone was very kind. The in-room meals were delicious, and the hot spring water had a silky texture that left our skin smooth. The Accommodation’s service and thoughtful hospitality were excellent, and we could see why it has such high Reviews.

    I visit a few times a year, either alone or with my family. Recently, I stayed in a new type of Room for the first time, but it was too spacious for just one person. As always, I was very satisfied with the visually delightful meals. I look forward to visiting again around spring. Thank you!
