    It was a wonderful stay.

    We stayed for one night and two days with my wife and our young child. Overall, it was a very satisfying stay for our family. The Onsen lived up to its reputation, and the Facility was clean and well maintained. The Calpis in the post-bath lounge had the same rich taste I remember drinking at a well-off friend’s house as a child, bringing back nostalgia after decades. Every meal was delicious. We also ordered a children’s dinner (5,000 yen), and it was something adults could enjoy as well; it seemed like too much for a toddler, so I ended up finishing it. One small issue was that the height of the desk in our Room didn’t match the height of the child’s chair. I’d like to write more about what happened after dinner, but my child woke up, so I’ll stop here. It was disappointing that the seafood pickles sold at the shop weren’t served at breakfast (we sent them as souvenirs to my parents and my in-laws).

    Staff Service

    No matter when we visit, the staff are always wonderful. Not only the Room attendants, but everyone truly embodies the spirit of hospitality. Even at checkout the next day, when we passed staff in the hallway changing linens for other rooms, they stopped what they were doing and bowed. You don’t see that at other Hotels. I consider Hanamaki Onsen to be among the highest-class properties, and it’s clear that staff training is excellent. The amenities also feel a grade above. Even the bath towels are noticeably thicker than those at typical Hotels. The water is silky-smooth and genuinely relaxing. My wife and I talked about how satisfied we were, feeling truly fulfilled—like we had really been to an Onsen.

    Delicious meals, a great Onsen, and excellent service

    The monthly changing menu featured dishes that truly captured the feeling of spring. Each time a course was served—and each time I opened the lid of a bowl—I was amazed by its beauty, and every bite was pure bliss. I was completely satisfied. The Onsen had a rich, lotion-like texture, and I felt it would be especially appreciated by women. Even for men, it works wonderfully on dry winter skin. Both the attendants and the front desk staff were extremely attentive, making my stay very comfortable. Thank you very much.

    The hospitality could be improved.

    We chose a Room with an open-air bath. As others have mentioned, we were confused by the style of entering the living area with shoes on. It’s clear that a lot has been invested in the Facility, but we’ve stayed elsewhere at the same price with a more atmospheric open-air bath and were very satisfied, so this was disappointing. Also, despite the Facility, the Hotel staff’s lack of professionalism stood out. From start to finish, explanations from the Room attendant, front desk, and breakfast venue staff were insufficient and vague. There was no proactive guidance on essential information such as Shuttle Service times or when bedding would be laid out; for many other things as well, nothing was explained unless we asked. Explanations also contradicted each other—when we asked to confirm something because it didn’t seem right, we were casually told, “Oh yes, you’re right—that was wrong,” and it was simply reversed. The overall carelessness was unpleasant. On top of that, while there was no proactive or thoughtful hospitality, they were quick to call if breakfast or checkout ran late. It felt like they only became proactive when it came to rushing guests. At checkout, even though we weren’t driving and had already missed the Shuttle Service time, there wasn’t even a brief word about public transportation options; they quickly disappeared into the back. We ended up leaving from an unattended entrance. You could call it “keeping an appropriate distance,” but it clearly felt like they weren’t thinking about guests at all—just that many staff members lacked attentiveness and had a different idea of hospitality. The food isn’t bad, but it’s average. When a server brought a new dish and noticed my tray was full with nowhere to place it, she used fingers from the same hand holding the new dish to push my finished plate off my tray with a loud clatter to make space before setting down the next dish. I was genuinely shocked by such poor manners. Why not use her other hand or clear empty plates first? It made me realize what level of Accommodation this is. It doesn’t match the price point, and I won’t be returning.

    It was wonderful.

    It was a spacious, clean Ryokan where we could relax and unwind. These days it’s rare, but all the staff were Japanese, and everyone was very kind. The in-room meals were delicious, and the hot spring water had a silky texture that left our skin smooth. The Accommodation’s service and thoughtful hospitality were excellent, and we could see why it has such high Reviews.

    I visit a few times a year, either alone or with my family. Recently, I stayed in a new type of Room for the first time, but it was too spacious for just one person. As always, I was very satisfied with the visually delightful meals. I look forward to visiting again around spring. Thank you!

    Perfect for solo travelers!

    I managed to take some time off and was looking for an onsen accommodation in Tohoku. I found a place with great reviews and cost performance that seemed perfect for a solo trip, so I made a reservation. As the reviews mentioned, a young female staff member kindly guided me through the facility and introduced the yukata options. The silky smooth onsen water that can be enjoyed hands-free was exceptional. Additionally, the meals featuring ingredients from Hanamaki and Sanriku were absolutely delicious. Highly recommended for solo travelers who want to relax and enjoy onsen and meals at their own pace!

    The meals, bath, and service were all excellent.

    This was my second stay. During my previous visit, I was deeply impressed by the dinner and knew I wanted to return. Once again, the dishes were visually stunning and delicious, and having them served in the room allowed me to enjoy a relaxing and leisurely meal. The seasoning and presentation were truly exceptional. The silky Onsen in the large public bath was soothing without causing dizziness even after a long soak. The private hinoki bath in the room was spacious, allowing me to enjoy it at my own pace without worrying about others. The staff, including the attendant assigned to our room, were all incredibly kind and cheerful, making our stay very comfortable. During my last visit during the pandemic, some activities were unavailable; however, this time I had the chance to watch traditional performing arts from Iwate at Matsuri Square. It was held nearby at Hotel Koyokan with shuttle service provided by this hotel—something we greatly appreciated. Watching Oni Kenbai up close left a lasting impression; though I'd seen it on TV before, experiencing it live was far more powerful. Everything—from the exquisite meals to warm hospitality, unique experiences, and relaxing Onsen—was wonderful. I would love to stay here again. Thank you very much!

    The silky smooth hot spring was absolutely amazing.

    The smooth texture of the Onsen was absolutely amazing. The meals, from rice to meat, were so delicious that I was completely overwhelmed. Moreover, everything was impeccably clean. After making the reservation, there were daily news reports about bears and earthquake warnings, and on the day of my trip, there were forecasts of severe weather in the Tohoku region. I debated canceling multiple times. On top of that, flights were being canceled one after another on the day itself! I almost gave up and considered heading back home from the airport. Despite all this, I managed to reach this incredible Onsen by plane—it truly is a wonderful place. Early that morning, I checked out Hanamaki Airport's live camera feed and saw several snowplows clearing heavy snow. That sight made me determined to go no matter what!

    It became the best memory!

    We stayed at this accommodation for the first time during our family trip, and it became an unforgettable experience for all of us! The room was functional, quiet, and very comfortable to stay in. The private bath in the room was spacious and perfect for relaxation. The meals were exceptional; although we initially opted for in-room dining, they kindly accommodated us with venue dining instead and even took care of allergies. Everything was absolutely delicious, leaving us completely satisfied. As for the onsen, the quality of the water was excellent with a silky texture that made bathing enjoyable. After soaking in the onsen, our skin felt smooth and warm throughout our bodies. Even my severe back and shoulder pain eased significantly. This time we stayed only one night, but we are determined to return for a multiple-night stay next time!

    A Memorable Onsen Ryokan

    I stayed at this accommodation for the first time in nine years. During my previous trip to Iwate, I had packed my schedule from early morning, and by the time I arrived at the ryokan, I was completely exhausted. Although I had planned to enjoy the bonfire and onsen after dinner, fatigue got the better of me, and I ended up falling asleep without experiencing them. As a result, my memories of that stay were almost nonexistent. Even though I only entered the onsen once during that visit, its silky smooth quality left a lasting impression on me. I've always wanted to return just to experience that wonderful onsen again. However, since it's quite far from Saitama, it took some time before I could revisit—and finally this time, it happened! For this trip, my main focus was to relax and enjoy my stay at the ryokan. From meals to the onsen and simply unwinding within its premises—everything exceeded expectations and left lasting memories for me. I won't go into too much detail as it might lessen others' excitement when they visit themselves; however, this ryokan is incredibly thoughtful in every aspect—even down to small details you wouldn't expect! For instance: when traveling overnight somewhere new like here—I usually bring comfortable loungewear because sleeping solely wearing yukata feels difficult personally—but surprisingly soft fabric samue (traditional Japanese-style clothing) provided made things easier instead while reducing luggage weight overall too! Not only does their exceptional hospitality shine through but also meticulous attention-to-detail throughout entire experience makes returning worthwhile repeatedly over again someday soon hopefully!

    The head chef seems ...

    The head chef seems to have changed, and the taste has significantly declined compared to before. The sashimi, for example, is not only oversized but also lacks finesse. However, the baths were excellent. I used to think of this as an accommodation with great food, but it was a bit disappointing this time.

    The hot spring water is silky and exceptional.

    The onsen features spacious baths and silky-smooth water, making it exceptional. The service was attentive, allowing for a relaxing stay. Breakfast included locally sourced milk from nearby, and morning newspapers were delivered to each room, reflecting a sense of local contribution. The kaiseki dinner was satisfying with large abalone and a variety of dishes. The drink menu was extensive, including my favorite Yebisu draft beer, which made me indulge more than usual. The room had been renovated and was comfortable; however, the toilet was slightly inconvenient to use. Dinner was served in the room, but some food smells lingered afterward—private dining rooms would have been preferable in this regard. I would love to stay at this accommodation again if I have the chance!

    Silky Smooth Hot Springs

    I stayed during the peak of the autumn foliage. The food was simple but delicious. It was my first time eating sukiyaki with grated yam. The Onsen's water quality is among the top three I've experienced so far. The silky smooth water is truly as advertised. The private bath in the room, also using Onsen water, was excellent. Additionally, a young and charming staff member with a constant smile provided a soothing experience. I would love to visit again during cherry blossom season next time.

    It was a relaxing accommodation.

    I visited Hanamaki in the deepening autumn for a one-night stay. The autumn leaves were about halfway through their peak. This accommodation was well-maintained, and the staff provided pleasant service. The garden was beautifully cared for and enjoyable to look at without getting bored. The onsen was of good quality, allowing me to relax thoroughly. However, I felt that the meals could use a bit more creativity. It was an accommodation where I could unwind comfortably. It’s one of the places I’d like to visit again when I have the chance. Thank you very much!

    Disappointing

    I had high expectations due to the high Review ratings. I specifically chose the Plan called "Authentic and New Japanese Cuisine, Bringing a Smile with Every Bite," which promised an upgraded dining experience. However, upon entering the Room for dining, most of the dishes were already set up and covered with cellophane. Naturally, the sashimi was slightly dry, and none of the dishes were particularly impressive or made use of premium ingredients. The only seemingly luxurious item was matsutake mushroom dobin-mushi, but even that lacked flavor in both broth and seasoning. Overall, there was no sense of seasonal presentation or refinement; it felt like a meal worth around 7-8 thousand yen at best. The staff member who guided us to our Room spoke in a mechanical manner without much response when spoken to. Additionally, the spa seemed to be located next to a banquet hall as we could constantly hear loud voices from intoxicated guests nearby, and even the aroma oil smelled oxidized. We paid approximately 160,000 yen for two people for one night but felt that the service did not justify this price point.

    Healing Accommodation

    This stay was wonderful as always. It was my first time staying in a single room, but it was not cramped and I had a very comfortable time. The room was conveniently close to the large public bath, which was very helpful. The meals were just the right amount, beautifully presented, and delicious. I could feel the chef's excellent sense of taste in every dish. I look forward to staying again to enjoy the cuisine. I also love the onsen; thoughtful touches like selectable shampoos made me very happy. This time I traveled by train, so unfortunately, the shuttle service schedule being earlier than the 11:00 AM checkout time meant I couldn't relax as much as I'd hoped. If possible, I would appreciate some consideration for this in the future. That said, this is still my favorite accommodation at Hanamaki Onsen! I look forward to visiting again for relaxation and healing moments. Thank you!

    Simply outstanding.

    I visited 10 years ago and had such a wonderful experience that I wanted to confirm it again this time. As expected, from the moment I entered, being guided to the Room, enjoying the bath, and having meals—it was all simply amazing. What stood out most was the staff assigned to our Room; they were always smiling and so pleasant, which made me feel even more delighted. Breakfast was impeccable as well. The morning bath was fantastic too. As expected, everything about Kasuien is just perfect. The price is high, but it’s worth every penny!

    Enjoy a luxurious stay.

    I stayed in a room with an open-air bath. Since the water was from the same hot spring as the large public bath, I could enjoy it multiple times without worry. My skin became smooth, and I felt thoroughly warmed to the core. Meals were served in the room, allowing for a calm and relaxed dining experience. Every dish was delicious, but I especially enjoyed the kamameshi and ended up eating a lot of it. The nights were quiet, allowing for a restful sleep. I would love to stay here again if given the chance.

    It was excellent.

    I visited Hanamaki to see the monument featuring the handprints of Yusei Kikuchi and Shohei Ohtani, located near the ground of their alma mater, Hanamaki Higashi High School. I stayed at an accommodation less than a 10-minute drive from there, surrounded by attractions like a rose garden and a large waterfall, making the trip enjoyable with just the local sightseeing. This historical ryokan is impeccably clean and well-maintained, so it doesn’t feel old at all. The large public bath includes an indoor bath with a view of trees through the windows and a spacious barrel bath. The onsen water is alkaline, leaving my skin smooth. I had a similar experience with the alkaline water when I stayed at Hanamaki Minami Onsen on the other side of the mountain, so it seems the onsen in this area might all share this quality. The room I stayed in also had an onsen bath, with a large tub where I could stretch my legs comfortably. The meals were traditional Japanese cuisine, with each dish carefully prepared. Although the portions were generous, everything was so delicious that I finished it all. The staff were polite and friendly, making my stay pleasant from check-in to check-out. While it is slightly more expensive than other accommodations in the area, I believe it’s worth the price for this refined and relaxing adult retreat.

    The silky Onsen was very relaxing.

    The Onsen was silky and very relaxing. The cuisine was a kaiseki meal inspired by autumn. Contrary to the expectation that Tohoku flavors might be strong, the dishes were quite mild and delicious. After dinner, we enjoyed the "Kasuga-style Deer Dance" held at the affiliated Momijikan Festival Hall, making it a truly satisfying day. Additionally, our Room was upgraded, and we luxuriously enjoyed a 2-room, 1-bedroom setup. Thank you very much!

    Points of Improvement and Highlights

    Since we stayed during a high-price period like a three-day weekend, it was somewhat expected, but the accommodation felt not quite worth the cost. That said, I would like to share my thoughts on the meals and service during dining. For example, there were two types of sauces provided as alternatives to soy sauce for sashimi, but since I didn’t like either, I requested regular soy sauce. However, the same sauces were served with subsequent dishes without any adjustment or notice. Additionally, when asking questions about the menu, I was told to refer to the written menu in a way that felt dismissive. These experiences left me feeling that the service was slightly lacking in kindness and attentiveness. On a positive note, the onsen had wonderfully silky water and was very enjoyable. The room was also clean and comfortable, which made those aspects satisfying overall.

    Exceeded expectations.

    I stayed in a room with an open-air bath. The open-air bath made of cypress was wonderful, and I was thrilled to find the indoor bath was also a cypress bath. Meals were served at a table in the Western-style room adjacent to our room, contrary to my expectation of sitting on tatami mats. The kaiseki cuisine was the most delicious I've ever had at any accommodation, and I felt it could easily be worth around 20,000 yen per meal due to its intricate presentation. The seasonal ice bowl used for serving dishes added a delightful touch. The room was all-inclusive with complimentary drinks in the refrigerator, and morning coffee at the hotel the next day was also free of charge. The large public bath was spacious with beautiful views. Both men’s and women’s yukata were available for selection, which I appreciated. Additionally, walking inside the hotel in personalized straw sandals that could be taken home as souvenirs added charm to our stay. Every night there is a 30-minute event at the neighboring hotel; during my visit, it featured traditional folk songs which were very enjoyable. Even the futon provided wasn’t ordinary but came with trendy memory foam mattresses that offered great comfort—showing thoughtful consideration by the hotel. Nearby attractions included a waterfall and rose garden that made for an excellent morning walk. If I may add one wish—it would have been perfect if there had been a Noh stage in the stone garden where performances could take place! Overall though, this is an exceptional hotel that left me highly satisfied. I would love to stay here again!

    Very good accommodation.

    We stayed here in both August and September. The service, meals, Onsen, and room were all excellent. In August, we brought our young grandchild along, and the staff member in charge of our room provided exceptional care. Having visited various Onsen across the whole country, this place stands out for its warm and personable hospitality. We hope you continue to maintain this level of service! We look forward to visiting again within the year!
