    View of Mount Hiei

    I had a Multiple Night Stay in early August on a hot day. Although the room on the club floor was far from the elevator, the view from the room was amazing and truly relaxing. It seemed relatively uncrowded, so I had no issues using the club lounge, and not only was breakfast not crowded, but its quality was also excellent. I had a very relaxing time.

    It was quiet and relaxing.

    My elderly mother wanted a change of pace, so we enjoyed a relaxing stay at the Hotel. Since we stayed on the Club Floor, welcome drinks and sweets were prepared in the Room, and juices in the refrigerator were complimentary, making it very cost-effective. The Room was spacious, and the quiet atmosphere throughout the Hotel was impressive. With the Diamond benefit, check-out was at 12 PM, allowing us to have a leisurely morning. We would love to stay again if given the opportunity. Thank you very much!

    Traveling Grandma

    I stayed at this Hotel for two nights. I chose the dinner-included option, and it was an incredibly enjoyable dining experience. The dinner, in particular, featured completely unique dishes that deeply impressed me. These two days left me with such a pleasant memory that I want to return again. Perhaps because of this, I spent a relaxing time without visiting the lounge much. Being located away from busy areas, it is a wonderful Hotel where you can enjoy very quiet and comfortable moments. Additionally, the tea room in the garden was open for viewing, which was delightful. I thought it would be amazing if they offered a morning porridge menu here as an option—of course as an additional charge event—and hope they might consider this idea. At night, the view of Mount Hiei was absolutely stunning.

    The hospitality at the Hotel was exceptional.

    It was a bit far from Kyoto Station, so I had been wanting to visit but couldn't until now. This time, since it was a car trip, I decided to make the Reservation, and it was truly wonderful! The elegant and delicious time spent on the club floor was especially amazing! The dinner at Itozakura was also incredibly delicious and impressive. It is definitely a Hotel I would love to visit again.

    The room was renovated, spacious, and well-equipped. Complimentary soft drinks and sparkling wine were provided in the room, along with a welcome dessert! It was very comfortable to spend time in the room. The view from the room was surrounded by mountains, allowing us to keep the curtains open without concern. We even spotted a deer family, which seems uncommon in this area. However, at the club lounge, there were some issues that should have been addressed on-site. The draft beer had an unusual smell, and we found a strand of hair inside the lasagna—not something that fell from us but clearly embedded within it. This raised concerns about how food hygiene is managed at the lounge dining area.

    Lacking attention to detail

    Despite staying in a suite room, the furniture doors were poorly fitted and did not close properly. Additionally, the drainage in the bathroom was poor, causing water to flow very slowly and leaving water stagnant in the sink, which was unpleasant. For three people, only one 2-liter bottle of water was provided, which was highly inconvenient. The Hotel did not live up to its high price and left me disappointed. The breakfast lacked both taste and presentation quality.

    Much better than the previous visit.

    Over 10 years ago, I occasionally used this Hotel for conferences, but this time stayed for two nights. With other options becoming too expensive, the reasonable pricing here felt appealing. The parking and elevator security were smartly designed. Dinner was a full course with a Japanese touch, perfectly paired with sake—especially memorable was the bitter taste of young sweetfish pâté cooked at low temperature in oil. This is an excellent Hotel where international guests can truly enjoy Japan. As an IKYU member, I appreciated benefits like room upgrades to the top floor and free parking. The treetop views were stunning, and the natural ambiance of the courtyard was delightful. It was a relaxing stay!

    Arrived earlier than...

    Arrived earlier than planned. I thought of leaving my luggage and going out, but they kindly checked if the room was ready, and I was able to check in. I relaxed in the room for a bit before heading out. The front desk and doorman provided warm and courteous service, making me look forward to my stay. However, the dining experience at Ito Sakura for both breakfast and dinner was very disappointing. Despite being a pre-reserved course meal, the serving time was excessively slow—waiting over 10 minutes between dishes after finishing one course felt unnecessarily prolonged. I've never experienced such delays with a course meal before. Regular customers, male guests, or those ordering à la carte seemed to be served smoothly... When asked if I would like more bread or butter and responding "Yes," it never arrived—it seemed forgotten entirely... If that's the case, please don't ask in the first place! Is this an old establishment? The service felt outdated as if from another era—what time period are we in? The food itself didn't feel particularly special either; everything fell short of expectations. It turned into a stressful stay. It's unfortunate because the front desk and doorman's hospitality were so pleasant.

    I visited Kyoto to tour the Kyoto State Guest House. From the warm welcome to the farewell, I experienced exceptional hospitality and spent my time feeling enriched. However, two drawbacks were the lack of a large public bath and the fact that parking was not free.

    4th Stay

    This is a hotel I stay at about once a year. While the center of Kyoto is bustling with people, stepping off the subway at Kokusaikaikan Station where the hotel is located feels like arriving in a serene and different town. Surrounded by the greenery of Takaragaike Park, this hotel offers a relaxing atmosphere. Guests can enjoy its courtyard, koi pond, and traditional Japanese house that can be visited for free. Dining on the hotel's delicious French cuisine for dinner makes for an incredibly soothing stay. Upon checkout, it’s always a place that makes you think, "I’ll come back again."

    Stayed to celebrate both Mother's Day and my mother's 77th birthday, and she was delighted with the sweets in the room's bento box and the shower booth. Thank you very much. There was only one skincare set in the room, but when I called, they promptly brought another one. I also requested a phone charger, which they quickly delivered together—very helpful. The lounge food was delicious at all times of day; however, perhaps due to fewer guests this time, there were fewer options during cocktail hour and no new items were served, which was a bit disappointing. The sake was too sweet for my taste, but other alcoholic beverages were enjoyable. The gym had a wide variety of professional equipment that my mother had never seen before; she thoroughly enjoyed it. However, the bathroom ventilation in the room seemed poor. After returning home, we tried Hotel's original individually wrapped chocolate biscuits—they were incredibly delicious! I wish I had bought some to take home. Although small, the souvenir shop offered a diverse selection of items that we enjoyed browsing through.

    After the Golden Wee...

    After the Golden Week, the accommodation was calm on weekdays, allowing me to relax and enjoy time with my wife. The hospitality of the staff, including those at the front desk, was excellent.     A resort-like atmosphere you wouldn't expect in Kyoto City

    We stayed with a plan that included two meals. It was our first visit, but despite being an older hotel, it was well-maintained and felt neither outdated in the room nor in public areas. Dinner was a course menu, very delicious, and the service was excellent. We were extremely satisfied with everything. When we went to the same restaurant for breakfast, the woman at reception greeted us saying, "Thank you for last night," recognizing us immediately by face. We were deeply touched by her attentiveness. This is how hospitality should be! The front desk staff who handled our check-in also explained everything efficiently and made us feel welcome throughout our stay at this hotel. The only slight inconvenience might be that the bathroom did not have a separate washing area as seen in more modern hotels; however, considering the time and cost required for such renovations, it’s understandable that this would be challenging to implement. Overall, we found this hotel to be highly satisfying and would love to visit again if given another opportunity!

    There are no dining options near the Hotel.

    By train: 25 minutes from Kyoto Station to "Kokusaikaikan-mae" on the Karasuma Subway Line. A 10-minute walk through a dim underground passage, with few people around, cold weather outside, and a somewhat lonely atmosphere. The reason for the free shuttle service for suitcases from the hotel counter at Kyoto Station (charged starting in April) became clear. I used this service both ways, and it was very helpful. Impressions of a two-night stay with Club Lounge access: **Pros:** Spacious room (though the sink area and hairdryer are slightly dated). Sparkling wine and sweets provided in the room. The Club Lounge area is relatively large. **Cons:** The offerings at the Club Lounge were underwhelming in terms of variety, quality, presentation method, and timing. Afternoon tea consisted only of small cut cakes and sweet bread-like items. During cocktail time, I couldn't bring myself to try just potatoes and nuggets (felt like a family restaurant?). Many hotel restaurants were closed, and there was no bonfire event in the courtyard either. There are also no nearby dining options outside the hotel, which was inconvenient. Several large buses arrived during my stay; perhaps this hotel mainly caters to group tourists? While the building itself is lovely, next time I would prefer accommodation more convenient for exploring Kyoto.

    Club Floor

    Stayed on the Club Floor for two nights from March 11, but unfortunately, it was disappointing and felt that many aspects need improvement. The Club Lounge is small and located next to the Hotel's main entrance, which can make it noisy at times. The breakfast counter is cramped, and the breakfast offerings are far below what one would expect from a Club Floor. There were fewer Western food options compared to Japanese dishes. Additionally, there were no knives or forks available, so international guests had to use small cake forks and butter knives for their meals. Afternoon tea, cocktail time, and nightcap services were of similarly low standards. During the nightcap service, spilled food left by guests was not cleaned up from the counter as there seemed to be no staff attending to cleanliness. The Room was spacious and comfortable; however, I felt that the bathroom interior needs renovation. The vinyl-like flooring may be functional but gives off a cheap impression. When your Hotel first opened, it was considered a luxury hotel; however, with ultra-luxury hotels opening one after another in today's Kyoto market, I believe you need to reassess what makes your Hotel attractive and set a clear direction moving forward. Otherwise—unfortunately—it seems like it's already becoming more of a three-star hotel catering mainly to group tourists. It’s in an excellent location with kind and dedicated staff members; I sincerely hope for improvements in the future!

    Close to the subway station, offering a slightly suburban feel, the Hotel staff were kind and very accommodating. The lounge had a wide variety of drinks, making it a relaxing experience. I would love to stay here again.

    The club lounge staff were disappointing.

    The busing service at the club lounge during breakfast was unsatisfactory. A male staff member suddenly asked from right behind me if he could clear my plate while I was looking at my phone, and a female staff member tried to clear my plate and cup by gathering kiwi peels and other waste from the plate into the cup right next to me before taking them away. I've never experienced having waste consolidated in front of me like that, let alone into a cup, especially while still eating—it was unpleasant. It’s hard to believe they didn’t realize how uncomfortable this would be. I almost wanted to call for a manager. This needs improvement. During my previous stay, the club lounge was quiet and relaxing, leaving a good impression. That’s why I made this Reservation for this time as well as for celebrating Mother’s Day in May. However, this time the club lounge was always full, and the staff were unpleasant, making me worried about bringing my mother here in May. The Room had some noticeable dust in places which was disappointing. On a positive note, there were plenty of welcome sweets, sparkling wine, soft drinks available; the bathroom was spacious with bath salts provided; and it allowed us to relax comfortably in our Room.

    The room includes welcome sweets and sparkling wine, which is wonderful. However, during cocktail time at the expected Club Lounge, perhaps consider serving fried chicken cartilage instead of nuggets as it is a commonly appreciated dish. While there is an international-style simmered dish available, it lacks any Kyoto-style seasoning, which is disappointing. Even with fewer options, I would like to enjoy flavors unique to Kyoto in the Club Lounge and hope for more effort in this regard. It would be helpful if there were a notice indicating that the hot water machine cannot be used when placed next to coffee equipment. Although a pot seems to be provided nearby, the water quickly becomes lukewarm; perhaps switching to a kettle would be better. Good tea gets ruined by mixing with coffee flavors. I frequently use Club Lounges in Kobe, Osaka, and Kyoto but have higher expectations moving forward. In Room 760, the shower booth had poor drainage causing water buildup and one of the glasses in the drawer was already broken before use—unfortunately leading me not to return again.

    I checked in in time...

    I checked in in time for afternoon tea, but since it was close to the end time, there was only one type of dessert available. During cocktail time, a few appetizers were served, but I was disappointed with the potatoes and nuggets. I have used club lounges at several hotels before, but I have never seen anything like this elsewhere. I did not visit for the nightcap. The room was spacious, and the welcome sweets were excellent, which made the lounge experience even more disappointing. The breakfast at the lounge also had a limited selection and no live kitchen; something unique or Kyoto-inspired would have been nice. The luggage shuttle service between Kyoto Station and the hotel was very convenient and helpful.

    We enjoyed a delicious dinner.

    Last time we stayed on the club floor, but this time we chose a dinner and breakfast plan for the first time. The dinner was a casual one, so I didn't have high expectations, but on the first day we had a beef stew set, and on the second day we were served local chicken or sea bream and shrimp without repetition. Everything was delicious with soup and salad added for volume. I'm glad I chose this plan as it allowed us to enjoy our meals in a quieter and more relaxed setting than the club lounge, providing my wife and me with a satisfying experience. Additionally, the staff's service was very pleasant. For breakfast, we could choose between Japanese or Western sets, both of which exceeded our expectations in taste. If there is another good plan available, I would like to use it immediately again.

    Luxury Hotel

    I stayed in a room with club lounge access, and there were welcome sweets and sparkling wine in the room, and the sweets were very delicious.     A serene space for adults, free from the hustle and bustle.

    It was a quiet, adult space, so detached from overtourism that you could forget the daily hustle and bustle. I used it for a trip to celebrate my mother's birthday, and thanks to the warm hospitality of the staff, it became a memorable trip. It has become my favorite place where I can refresh my mind. It is a Hotel I definitely want to visit again.

    Stays after 18 years

    I was looking forward to staying after a long time, and while the staff service was good, it was inconvenient that there was no washing area in the bathroom. The food felt bland or tasteless. Also, the usage time of the club floor is too short. If it closes at 8:30 PM, it cannot be used after dinner, which defeats the purpose of the club floor. I'm a bit disappointed. I visit Kyoto (Kyouto) about twice a year for a short trip, and I was disappointed because I had high expectations.

    A hotel where you can relax amidst greenery.

    The rooms are spacious and allow for a relaxing stay at the hotel. Rooms with shower booths are very convenient. Although it is away from tourist spots, you can reach Kyoto Station or Shijo by subway, so you won't feel any inconvenience.

    Stayed on New Year's...

    Stayed on New Year's Eve. The prior communication was courteous, and they kindly provided a diaper bin for our child, which was helpful. Our child enjoyed playing table tennis on the same floor as the banquet hall before dinner. The roast beef at dinner was delicious, and the breakfast included New Year's dishes and ozoni, allowing us to enjoy the New Year's atmosphere (it would have been nice if there was a spoon where the chestnut kinton was placed at the buffet, as everyone seemed to have difficulty putting it on their plates). On New Year's Day, we were conveniently taken to Shimogamo Shrine by shuttle bus. The room had soft pillows, and it was a bit challenging to adjust the indirect lighting, but there was coffee available, and the elevator could only be used with a key card, which was good. The IKYU reservation was not eligible for Prince points, but the additional payment for the child's meal was eligible for the Prince member discount and member points. We would like to stay again during the New Year holidays.
