Club Room
This was my first stay in a Club Room in two years. Previously, welcome tea was prepared in the lounge and brought to the Room. I especially liked the matcha and a sweet called “Midori” from before. Soft drinks in the refrigerator are complimentary, but unfortunately I can’t drink anything with sugar. Breakfast in the club lounge also had a limited selection. At breakfast, an overseas guest was struggling with the toaster settings, but a young male staff member nearby—who seemed to be monitoring the food—did nothing. Even though two female staff were at reception, they didn’t notice either. I felt that the attentive service of the club lounge has declined.

I always stay here for work. My schedule was uncertain, so I made a Reservation one night at a time, but you treated it as a Multiple Night Stay, which was very helpful. You also assigned me a Room with a great view, and as always, it was very comfortable. Dinner was delicious too. I will continue to stay here regularly.

Is this a Club Floor room?
Because it has been in business for 40 years and was very affordable during the Obon holidays, I stayed here again for the first time in two years. I honestly wondered whether the club lounge was really providing “club lounge” level service. Given the price, I understand to some extent, but it felt quite disappointing. I would prefer to pay a bit more for better service. You can’t deny the age of the property. I wish there were power outlets on both sides of the bed—when you think about charging your phone, you end up choosing a newer Hotel. It used to be a place I wanted to stay at, and I feel like I often came for lunch as well. It may be time for a full renovation of the rooms while keeping the overall style as it is.

My Favorite Hotel
This was my repeat stay. This time, after a while, I stayed in a Club Room and was able to relax in the calm interior. Cute sweets were prepared in the Room, which delighted me. The refrigerator was also stocked with plenty of complimentary drinks. The club lounge offers a relaxing atmosphere with views of a flowing waterfall and a beautiful courtyard. I’ve used many club lounges, but this is my favorite. Breakfast was also served in the club lounge buffet-style. The selection is small, but everything was very delicious. In the past it was served as a set breakfast, which I loved for both its taste and presentation, but this buffet style wasn’t bad either. When a small child tried to toast bread alone, Hotel staff quickly stayed close by to help. I had been watching with concern about possible burns, but they ensured the child’s safety while also being considerate so as not to disturb other guests—truly impressive. I will definitely stay again.

A highly satisfying Hotel where you can fully enjoy the architectural beauty of Togo Murano and the natural scenery of northern Kyoto.
It was a wonderful stay, and I was very satisfied, with the unique aesthetic of architect Togo Murano felt throughout. The Hotel is surrounded by lush nature, making it pleasant to enjoy a relaxing walk. At the same time, taking the subway gets you to the city center in about 15 minutes, so access is very convenient. The breakfast I had been looking forward to offered just the right variety for both Western and Japanese options, and everything was delicious. Although I don’t usually wear provided pajamas, they matched the Hotel’s refined atmosphere perfectly, so I enjoyed wearing them this time. The walk from the elevator to my room was a bit long, but being able to stroll while admiring the beautiful courtyard view through the windows made even that travel time feel like a relaxing moment.

The staff’s courteous service was truly outstanding.
Compared with staying in the city center, it was a quiet environment and felt a little cooler. I also appreciated the paid luggage delivery service between Kyoto Station and the Hotel. I only had breakfast, but I was satisfied with Kyoto specialties such as bubuzuke and herring soba. However, the bath faucet was an older type, so extremely hot water came out and it was difficult to adjust. I was a bit worried that someone might get burned.

We highly recommend the Club Room.
We stayed in a Club Room. Welcome sweets and sparkling wine were prepared in the Room, and it was also helpful that the drinks in the refrigerator were free. The sparkling wine was a full bottle, but I think a half bottle would be enough. The lounge food felt a little lacking compared with other Hotels, but considering the Accommodation rate, I think it was sufficient. The garden visible from the lounge was very pleasant, and I would like to stay again during the autumn foliage season. Takaragaike Park is perfect for a short walk, so if you have time, I recommend taking a stroll. Also, you can tour the tea room in the morning, which I recommend as well.

I expected more from the Prince Hotel, but the dining options were disappointing.
After a long time, I made a Reservation through IKYU and visited Takaragaike in its fresh spring greenery. On top of that, there was an incredibly good-value Plan at the Prince Hotel, which only raised my expectations further. The service was truly Prince-grade—attentive and thoughtful in every detail—and the concierge’s tour of the Hotel (despite it being outside regular hours) was especially memorable. Their explanations drew on deep knowledge, delivered with refined grace, and every word conveyed genuine love for the Hotel. When I returned to my Room afterward, the calm, relaxing atmosphere felt even more pronounced and welcoming. The amenities and Facility also reflected the considerate touches typical of Japanese hotels—such as a scale, a reading light(?), and nightwear. I also smiled at the Karako-pattern cup, as it happens to be a motif I love and collect. The disappointing part was dinner in the main dining room. The kaiseki-style course itself was fine, and there were some Kyoto-like elements—such as dashi used in the bread or soup—but neither the ingredients nor cooking methods left any lasting impression, and I didn’t feel much creativity in either presentation or plating. The dessert in particular tasted overly monotonous and heavy, so I ended up leaving it. There were also petit fours served together with what was described as sesame dumplings; to be honest they seemed no different from something sold at an ordinary supermarket—perhaps that’s too harsh. Although there appeared to be space by the windows, my seat was tucked behind a pillar; more importantly, even though my Reservation was for 5:30 p.m. (and this happened around dessert), carts clearly being prepared for tomorrow’s breakfast were passing behind me, which made it hard to relax. For this course at JPY 20,000 per person—I couldn’t help but question it. With drinks included (Service Fee included), it cost more than twice as much as my stay. It remains an experience that still leaves me unsure whether it was truly worth it or not. Everything else was wonderful enough that I’d like to return in another season—but I’m conflicted.

A calm and relaxing atmosphere
I switched from another Hotel to stay here to see the Gion Festival. I have stayed here several times and like the calm atmosphere. The staff are also very courteous. Breakfast had been changed to a buffet style. I would like to stay here again if I have the opportunity.

I’ve known about this Hotel since it opened 40 years ago, and I’d always wanted to stay someday. The Room size was average. I had hoped for a view of the International Conference Center from the Room, but it was completely blocked by trees and I couldn’t see anything, which was disappointing. I don’t need welcome sweets or sparkling wine, so I’d rather have the price reduced accordingly. The bathroom has the toilet right next to it, making me wonder where I’m supposed to wash my body—it’s an awkward and inconvenient layout. Even in summer, if you wash yourself in the tub without filling it first to warm up, you end up getting chilled. It would be impossible in winter. I had high expectations for the club lounge, but the coffee was bad, and there was hardly anything substantial during cocktail time. Breakfast was average, but the area where the food is set out is far too cramped. There weren’t many options either, so it felt lacking. The only good point was that with a last-minute discount, I could stay relatively cheaply compared with other Hotels in Kyoto these days. I wanted to visit the tea room as well, but it was closed—another disappointment.

It was a Hotel in a quiet, nature-filled setting—perfect for switching off and relaxing at ease. Since I stayed on a weekday, the club lounge wasn’t very crowded, and I was able to enjoy drinks slowly while looking out over the garden. Time passed gently, and I spent the stay feeling truly elegant and at peace. They also provided in-Room services such as welcome sweets and sparkling wine. Although the bathroom was a unit bath, the bathtub was spacious, and they even prepared bath salts, which made me feel that the entire Hotel was a place where you can genuinely unwind. This time I accidentally forgot to visit the tea lounge, and it was also a bit disappointing that the lobby staircase was under construction—but I’ll take that as something to look forward to next time. It’s a Hotel I would definitely love to visit again.

The spacious 79 m² guest room is comfortable. The Facility is well equipped, and the location depends on your purpose.
I kept emotional language to a minimum and summarized the facts briefly. First stay in 15 years. Last time was right after the earthquake, so I could not choose a Room and ended up in a smoking Room with a tobacco smell, which left a poor impression; this time was completely different. The building has been renovated and now has an upscale atmosphere. The guest Room is spacious at 79 m² and very comfortable. The welcome drinks in the refrigerator and the boxed mineral water were sufficient, and plenty of towels were provided. The bathroom area is practical, with a double-sink vanity and a bath with a washing area. However, the amenities were placed densely, so it would have looked cleaner if they had been stored out of sight. The location is by Takaragaike, so it is far from downtown. It was convenient for this trip because my destination was nearby, but it may feel inconvenient if you plan to focus on sightseeing in the city by train. Many guests seemed to be traveling by car. Possibly due to its partnership with Marriott, there were many international guests. Access to the lounge was good, but it would be better if the restaurant options were more extensive.

Great value for money
Although it is a bit far from the city and the station, the Room was spacious, and the lounge service and welcome service were excellent. The gym has a wide variety of machines, and it was great that there were so many. We also saw a few fireflies by the river next to the Hotel. Since it was before the firefly event, I wondered if they were living there naturally. The fresh greenery and fireflies made for a refreshing early summer stay.

Convenient for using the International Conference Center. Also convenient for sightseeing.
This is the only Hotel within walking distance of the Kyoto International Conference Center. It’s not directly connected, so you will get wet in the rain. The Hotel’s service is courteous, the Facility is well equipped with everything you need, and it’s quiet and relaxing. Above all, all the hotel staff are polite and make you feel at ease. Hot water comes out quickly in the shower. There was also an electric kettle and a coffee maker. If you arrive late at night, note that the nearest subway exit may be closed, forcing you to take a dark detour. From Kokusaikaikan Station (the nearest station), there are buses heading north; if you’re up for it, it’s possible to make a 2–3 hour round trip to Kibune Shrine or Mount Hiei. Next time I’d like to visit Sanzen-in as well.

Enjoy the fresh early-summer greenery at Takaragaike Prince Hotel
Our annual mother-and-daughters trip to Kyoto has become a tradition, and this was our third stay at The Prince Kyoto Takaragaike. Last time, we stayed to celebrate my mother’s 88th birthday and left saying, “Let’s come again.” Thankfully she has stayed healthy, reached her 90th birthday, and the three of us were able to return together this year. When making the Reservation, I requested a Room near the elevator due to her age. Not only was our request met, but we were also upgraded and even given a celebratory gift—what a wonderful surprise. It made our commemorative trip even more special. This was our first visit during the season of fresh green maple leaves. The approach to the Hotel entrance, the courtyard, and the greenery visible from our Room were all beautiful, and we enjoyed a refreshing early-summer atmosphere throughout our stay. Even though it’s a bit far from Kyoto Station, we choose this Hotel because it offers abundant nature, spacious grounds, and a calm ambiance that you won’t find in city-center hotels. Highly recommended for adult travelers who want to value their time at the Hotel as much as sightseeing. When we visited again after two and a half years away, general service at the lobby lounge had ended, and both the Japanese and Chinese restaurants had closed. It was slightly disappointing that there were fewer breakfast options than before; however, given today’s labor shortages, these changes are understandable. The buffet-style breakfast used quality ingredients with a nice Kyoto touch—we enjoyed it very much. My mother—now 90—still says “next time” (laugh), so we hope she stays well and that we can make it back for our fourth visit. Thank you very much to all of your staff.

I stayed for two nights on a Plan with access to the Club Lounge. It was a beautiful season of fresh greenery, so I enjoyed strolling around Takaragaike Park and relaxing in the Club Lounge, and was able to spend my time at a leisurely pace between sightseeing. This is an Accommodation I would like to use again.

It was very comfortable!
I stayed at the Prince for the first time in several years, and since this time I booked a Room with lounge access, I was able to relax and take it easy. The Room was as spacious as ever, and it seemed to have been renovated—it was clean and well maintained. There were also snacks and drinks in the Room, which made my stay comfortable. The lounge wasn’t luxurious, but it was a pleasant place to unwind. It would be even better if the food and beverage options were a bit more substantial.

Fall in love with it all over again.
Thank you very much for this stay. About 24 years ago, I stayed here with my mother. It was our first mother-and-daughter Hotel stay, at what was then the Takaragaike Prince Hotel. My mother recently passed away after a long illness, and I chose this stay to immerse myself in those memories. Back then, we happened to see a couple holding their wedding ceremony in the courtyard. My mother and I called out “Congratulations,” and as I admired the beauty of the courtyard and the bride’s happy smile, I was a high school student who began aspiring to work in the bridal industry. This is a Hotel filled with precious memories for me. A wonderful Hotel that has not changed since then. A quiet, nature-rich, truly charming Hotel. All of your staff were so polished and welcoming with their smiles that it made me smile as well. The Hotel itself is not overly formal—yet the chandeliers are gorgeous. The contrast between the fresh greenery and the Hotel was perfect. After finishing my mother’s wake and funeral, just as I was about to truly face the loneliness of losing her, the General Manager’s words—“Please relax and enjoy your stay”—felt incredibly comforting. Thank you. The Hotel that moved me so deeply when I was in high school is still just as wonderful as it was that day. Next time, I will stay again with my daughter (a junior high school student). I’m already looking forward to making new memories. To the General Manager; everyone at Reception; those at the Club Lounge; and everyone at the Restaurant: Thank you very much for your wonderful service. And to Housekeeping: Although we did not meet face-to-face, thank you for such a comfortable and impeccably clean Room. I am truly grateful.

Although it’s an older building, that’s part of its charm, offering a nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere.
I stayed here once over 30 years ago. The rooms have been nicely renovated and were comfortable. The front desk service was also good. A couple of requests: (1) the entrance sign from the road and directions through the parking area are not very clear, and (2) I would appreciate it if in-room loungewear (pajamas) could be provided.

I have stayed here several times. I think it offers great value for money in Kyoto. Impressions will vary depending on what you prioritize. This time, as a solo trip with a Reservation made months in advance, I expected some kind of preferential treatment, but it was the opposite. With dinner included and traveling alone, I assumed I would be seated somewhere quiet where I could enjoy my meal at a relaxed pace, but I was placed next to a table of eight. It may be considered a prime seat with a view of the courtyard, but as expected, it did not make for a calm dinner time. From the restaurant’s perspective, seating me near the courtyard may have been considerate; however, it was difficult to dine comfortably next to such a large group. If that was the case, I would have preferred to buy something at a convenience store and eat quietly in my Room. Since only my party and the group next to me were there for an early dinner, why was this seating arrangement chosen? That was very disappointing. As for the dinner menu as well, I changed it last time and again this time because it wasn’t satisfactory; I paid an additional fee to switch. If this continues to be something that requires repeated changes just to be acceptable, I probably won’t choose dinner in the future. I hope you can offer menus that most guests can find reasonably satisfying. That said, the beef braised in red wine (?) that I switched to was very delicious—although perhaps because it was belly cut meat, about one-third was fat and I left some. Thank you for upgrading my Room and providing Diamond member benefits as well.

We thoroughly enjoyed an extraordinary, out-of-the-ordinary stay.
I have vivid memories of staying here during the pandemic with a friend, and I was happy to return again on a solo trip. Above all, the location is truly wonderful—although it’s in the city, it still feels like you’ve come to a resort, letting you enjoy an extraordinary escape. The staff are consistently friendly and attentive, and you can really feel hospitality rooted in tradition. The entire beautiful building is charming, and it’s lovely to see how carefully it’s maintained. I’d love to stay again.

This is always my go-to Hotel when I visit Kyoto. With its quiet setting, elegant exterior, and spacious Room, I can truly relax. I stay for three nights each time and enjoy taking the train to explore different places. It was disappointing that the casual Chinese restaurant has closed, but with staff shortages everywhere these days, it can’t be helped. Kyoto sightseeing has become harder to do casually lately because it’s so crowded, but I’m looking forward to my next visit.

We had a relaxing stay.
We used the lounge, and it was pleasantly uncrowded, so we could relax. The Room had body lotion and other amenities, which was helpful. We couldn’t finish the welcome dessert and took it back with us. The Room was spacious and easy to use. The only downside is that the toilet and bath are in the same room, which makes it difficult when staying with friends.

Because it is away from central Kyoto, this Hotel is recommended for those who want a quiet stay. The Room is also spacious enough. It felt like many guests were trying to use the club lounge cocktail time as a substitute for dinner, perhaps because there are few restaurants nearby. The selection was neither too large nor too small. However, none of the dishes were very good. I’m sorry to say this, but I took one bite of the chicken and left it. I think it would be better to cut the number of items in half and serve tastier food. The illuminated Japanese garden seen from the lounge was stunning and made me glad I stayed at this Hotel—truly what you would expect from Prince. Overall my impression was positive up to that point, but my rating dropped sharply at the end due to how staff handled luggage pickup at Kyoto Station. Even though they came out from behind the counter and stood near the door to hand over suitcases, they just stood there absentmindedly and watched us leave. I was surprised that guests had to open the door themselves while carrying suitcases and duffel bags. If it were me, I would hold the door even for someone just passing by if they had heavy luggage. Are these counter staff not Hotel staff? If so, then perhaps it can’t be helped—but still.

A Hotel that is inconvenient for smokers
Stayed with club lounge access. The Room was spacious and comfortable, but the bathroom is combined with the toilet. This cuts the sense of relaxation when bathing in half. However, the complimentary items in the Room’s freezer and the staff’s service were very courteous. That said, there is no smoking room anywhere inside this vast Hotel; it is only available outside next to where large buses stop. It was very difficult at night, and thinking about midwinter or midsummer was chilling. Also, I was traveling with an elderly person with limited mobility and borrowed a wheelchair, but it could only be used inside the Hotel; we couldn’t even take a walk in the nature-rich park around the Hotel. This made me question the Hotel’s basic approach—shouldn’t they provide outdoor wheelchairs for guests, even for a fee?

Disappointed with the dinner service.
We chose a Plan that included the Hotel’s dinner course. Drinks could be ordered for an additional fee, and we did order some. However, one older male staff member served us in a way that made it feel like he assumed we were young and didn’t have money. He seemed to think we hadn’t ordered any drinks, and as we were leaving he said, “You didn’t order anything, right?” Normally the extra charges are settled at the end, but when it wasn’t done, he called out from behind and told us to come back. We were made to return and pay, yet even though it was their mistake, there wasn’t a single apology. It was an unpleasant dining experience from start to finish. It was my first time having a course meal, and I was shocked to feel judged by appearances.

This is a Hotel I would like to stay at again.
I stayed here because I am interested in the architecture of Togo Murano. According to Google Maps, it was about 20 minutes by subway from Kyoto Station to the nearest station plus an 11-minute walk, so I was a bit concerned that the final walk might feel long in the rain when I arrived at Kokusaikaikan Station. However, the route from the station to the Hotel goes through an underground passage first, and there is a roof above ground as well, so there was nothing to worry about. It snowed on my checkout day, but I only got wet for a brief moment while crossing the road. This time I used the club floor. The lounge also has hours when alcohol is served, and it was very relaxing. My only regret is that I didn’t fully understand the difference between cocktail time and nightcap time, so I arrived late and couldn’t enjoy enough hors d’oeuvres. I also used the fitness facilities, and they were excellent with a great selection of machines. I visited the tea room as well; there were thoughtful details everywhere, and I really enjoyed Murano’s work. It wasn’t a day with a Hotel tour this time, so I would like to come back again. From the carpet flooring and wallpaper to the tableware in my Room, everything had a Kyoto feel and reminded me of what makes Japan special. In particular, I really loved the “Ikannin” tableware. All staff members were pleasant, and thank you for helping me have such a meaningful stay. Next time, I’d like to visit in a different season.
