    Great value for money!

    The room's bath and the open-air bath were very relaxing. The food was excellent. Compared to another Ryokan under the same management, this one offers great value for money. I had a reservation for November but also made a reservation for August.

    Guests should be cautious when staying here. During my multiple night stay, I did not request cleaning, so no one was supposed to enter the room. However, someone entered without permission during dinner time. The room I reserved had a bed, and there was no need for [laying out futons]. Yet, during dinner service, a staff member asked if they could enter. I confirmed that it wasn’t necessary since it was a bedroom with a bed. However, upon returning to the room, it was clear that things had been moved around—someone had entered. Why don’t the staff properly confirm whether: - The room is a bedroom or requires futons? - It’s reserved for multiple nights? - Cleaning is requested during multiple night stays? The first night was excellent; however, the intrusion on the second night left me disappointed. There was an air purifier in the room that didn’t work properly and emitted an unpleasant smell. I ended up buying room fragrance from the shop to manage this issue. There were stains on the comforter—was it even cleaned? Between the entrance of my room and the bedroom area, there was a small space where I found teacups. This wasn’t explained at check-in; all that was provided were tea bags. Where’s the kettle? The private open-air bath in my guestroom had no lighting at all—it was pitch dark. When being guided to my guestroom upon arrival, explanations were given robotically and too quickly as if following a manual rather than genuinely trying to communicate with guests. There seemed to be welcome sweets available for guests; however, this wasn’t mentioned during my check-in experience. Additionally on my second night's dinner service—I believe due to some misunderstanding—I was spoken to in another language as though assumed foreign. Even menus provided were catered towards foreigners despite this being my second day of stay here! Used dishes weren’t cleared promptly but left out in hallways which felt inconsiderate especially when walking back through those areas later-on seeing them still unattended-to! Initially impressed enough thinking perhaps returning again wintertime yet after such experiences now decided never making reservations again instead trusting low-rated reviews previously dismissed earlier regarding SANSUIROU establishment overall disappointing realization indeed!

    The meals were delicious.

    The meals were plentiful and varied, providing a high level of satisfaction. The menu was thoughtfully detailed, including tidbits about the ingredients and dishes, making it an enjoyable read.     We visited during the busiest time of the holiday season. Despite the busy period, all staff members provided service with a smile, allowing us to have a pleasant stay. **What We Liked:** ◯ The rooftop open-air onsen was fantastic. As described as an "observatory open-air bath," we enjoyed lush green mountains during the day and a star-filled sky at night. During the day, we felt surrounded by nature with nearby mountains, and at night, it was peaceful and relaxing under the moonlight. The rooftop experience was truly exceptional. ◯ The meals were crafted to highlight fresh ingredients, and we could feel the chef's thoughtfulness through both taste and presentation while reading about each dish in detail from its description card. Even non-Japanese staff members served us with smiles, making our dining experience enjoyable. **What Could Be Improved:** ◯ Our room was located at the farthest end with no view—just a wall next door (understandable but disappointing). We booked two rooms for two people each; however, it seemed like one room could accommodate four people comfortably. It would have been helpful if details about bed arrangements or futons were clearer on your website—we might have called to confirm beforehand if so. ◯ While cleaning was thorough, there was a musty smell in our room due to its age that lingered even on our clothes after returning home (though washing removed it). ◯ The welcome drinks were delightful with mini cakes available during daytime hours (although my husband mentioned that beer tasted weak; coffee was excellent). However—as noted in other reviews—only two bottles of water were provided per room. For those wanting to relax longer inside their rooms without heading back-and-forth from distant lounges—it would be nice if tea bags or coffee options could also be included. Overall: Although accommodation costs more than double during holidays—we managed reservations successfully while enjoying delicious meals alongside relaxing onsens which left us satisfied overall! Near lounge areas where incense seemed present—the scent felt refined & elegant; perhaps extending this feature across floors may help reduce mustiness elsewhere too? If given another chance someday—we’d love returning again soon! Thank you kindly for hosting us!

    IKYU Exclusive On-site Use Ticket

    At check-in, I was informed that IKYU users would receive a 3,000 yen voucher for use within the facility. Based on this, I ordered two alcoholic drinks and a kamameshi during my meal. I was told it could be used at checkout, but in the end, it wasn't applied. I understand it's a busy period, but providing some kind of ticket or notice would make things clearer. Other than that, it's an ordinary Ryokan with reasonable prices.

    It was a wonderful accommodation!

    The staff's hospitality was excellent, and the Room was spacious and clean. The open-air bath under the vast sky offered great views, and at night, the stars were beautifully visible. Complimentary beer in the evening and ice pops at night were a nice touch, and the dinner was delicious, making it a truly relaxing experience. Thank you for your hospitality.

    I had high expectations due to the moderate price of the accommodation, but honestly, I was disappointed. Here are some points I noticed: 【Facility & Others】 ○ While the facility being old did not bother me, all three chairs in the powder corner of the observation bath were damaged on their seats, leaving a disappointing impression. The bath itself was good, and having towels provided was convenient. ○ The corners of the guideboard in the room were frayed. Since this is something that can be easily replaced, not noticing it gave me an impression that guests are not valued. ○ The guide handed at check-in included guest names written in katakana, which did not feel pleasant to me. ○ At check-in, I was assigned a meal time of 5:30 PM but asked if it could be changed to 6:00 PM. After some hesitation and being told by a male staff member that "it will be crowded at that time" in an unfriendly manner, it eventually got changed to 6:00 PM. Normally there should be options presented first with advice about crowding as additional information for better consideration towards guests' preferences. ○ The carpet at the entrance of Tokiwa-dai's fourth-floor dining hall was laid out unevenly and looked untidy. 【Meals】 ○ To put it bluntly—it wasn’t tasty at all; especially the initial appetizers left quite a negative impression on me. If proper dishes cannot be served within traditional kaiseki style settings perhaps simplifying into something like bento boxes while focusing more effort on quality might work better? ○ Using plastic bowls for soup is unacceptable. ○ Staff explaining dishes sounded like they were just reciting memorized lines without much care or engagement—this felt unnecessary noise rather than helpful context; instead prioritizing proper training around serving etiquette would make greater impact overall! ○ Rice cooked inside unglazed clay pots resulted sticking residue making presentation appear less clean visually speaking too unfortunately… ○ Lastly signing receipts over minor drink orders seemed excessive given trust-based interactions should suffice under normal circumstances unless dealing w/ unusually large amounts involved otherwise! Overall employees appeared visibly fatigued across various areas observed throughout stay experience here sadly enough though… These remarks reflect personal opinions only so feel free disregard them entirely if preferred however sincerely hope constructive feedback shared above proves useful somehow toward future improvements made ahead accordingly!

    I want to visit again.

    We stayed as a family. The staff were very polite and accommodating, even when our check-in was delayed. They greeted us with smiles and handled everything calmly. The timing of the meals was excellent. Our family tends to eat quickly, so we often end up waiting for the next dish, but they perfectly matched our pace. The dishes were creative, plentiful, and thoroughly enjoyable. It seems the menu changes with the seasons, and the fresh greenery in spring was stunning. We look forward to visiting again in a different season, perhaps in autumn!

    Although I arrived early, I was able to relax in the lounge. The food was creative and very delicious. The open-air bath is surrounded by nature, so there were many fallen leaves floating, which was unfortunate but understandable. Since the large public bath is available 24 hours, I visited after 11 PM; however, it had not been cleaned and the changing area was untidy. For some reason, only the second-floor lamp of the elevator kept blinking late at night, which felt unsettling. I was startled to find a large centipede carcass in the hallway. The Room was too spacious for effective air conditioning; even at a 30°C setting, it felt cold. Overall, I feel there might not be enough staff members available.

    It was excellent.

    The building shows its age, and there were some areas where the tatami felt uneven, but the meals and baths were excellent. The staff members were of very high quality. I was particularly impressed by the foreign staff who had thoroughly learned Japanese cuisine menus, customs, and etiquette—it was truly remarkable.

    Highly satisfied.

    This was my first time staying here. The staff's very courteous service, the calm atmosphere of the accommodation, and the well-prepared services such as welcome drinks made me feel the spirit of hospitality everywhere.     Both mind and body were rejuvenated.

    We had been interested in this place for a while and finally decided to visit after finding a last-minute plan. Although we checked some critical reviews beforehand, we had an absolutely wonderful time that suited us perfectly. The guest room was spacious, clean, and full of historical charm. The view of the fresh greenery was stunning, and the bed was so comfortable that we slept soundly. The open-air bath with a view was exceptional as expected, and the large public bath offered a calm atmosphere where we enjoyed Onsen five times. Towels were plentiful and pleasant to use. The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the meals—both dinner and breakfast were outstanding. Each dish showcased carefully selected ingredients prepared with expert craftsmanship, leaving no room for criticism. Reading through the poetic menu before eating enhanced both the flavors and our appreciation for each dish. From the sashimi platter to freshly cooked rice to dessert—everything exceeded expectations! The lounge's free drinks brought out childlike excitement even in adults; the coffee was delicious, and the large flower arrangement at its center was truly impressive to admire. Many young staff members assisted us during our stay; their earnest efforts left a very positive impression on us. We would love to visit again during another season—thank you so much!

    It was a very pleasant stay.

    I previously stayed with my sister and had a satisfying experience, so this time I revisited to celebrate my husband's birthday. The rooftop open-air bath is truly delightful. During the day, we enjoyed the fresh greenery, and at night, the starry sky. The meals, both dinner and breakfast, were thoughtfully crafted with just the right portions and were absolutely delicious. This is an accommodation where you can stay with peace of mind. I would love to visit again!

The meals were a bit strongly seasoned for my taste.     Staying at Sansuirou for a birthday was wonderful!

    I stayed at Sansuirou for a birthday celebration, and it was absolutely amazing! First of all, the dinner was incredibly luxurious and delicious! There were so many dishes made with local ingredients that I couldn’t even finish them all. Plus, they served red rice to celebrate my birthday, which made me really happy. The attentive service was truly touching! The room was spacious and comfortable, and best of all, it came with a private Onsen. Soaking in the Onsen helped me relax completely. Also, I highly recommend the private bath "Mikan-yu." The sweet aroma of floating mandarins in the bath was so soothing that I enjoyed every minute of the 50-minute session. All the staff were friendly and provided excellent hospitality. It’s such a wonderful Ryokan that I’d love to visit again!

    This was my first st...

    This was my first stay at the accommodation. The staff's service was excellent, and the onsen was wonderful. However, it rained on the day of my stay, so I couldn't enjoy the scenic bath I had been looking forward to, which was very disappointing. The food was beautifully presented and delicious, especially the way the rice was cooked—it was outstanding and satisfying! I hope to visit again in a different season.

    Thank you very much.

    It was a very nice Ryokan with a traditional atmosphere and thoughtful touches throughout. The fresh flowers displayed in various places were lovely and soothing. The meals were delicious, especially the rice cooked in an iron pot, which was exceptionally tasty. However, there seemed to be a bit too much rice left over, which felt slightly wasteful.

    The amount of food was changed for me.

    This was my first time using the service. I informed them in advance that there would be elderly people, and asked if it was possible to change the portion size of the meals. They adjusted the portions, allowing us to enjoy everything including dessert. Thank you very much. Kaho-san (I forgot the kanji) who served us at the dining area responded flexibly, allowing us to enjoy all of our desserts. Thank you very much. The Room was a new one in Tokiwadai and we had a very comfortable stay. However, for an elderly couple, it seemed challenging due to its spaciousness without handrails and steps like those at the bed or entrance raised floor. If possible for future consideration, it would be great if your website could mention that handrails or tension rods can be installed upon request when necessary guests are staying or clearly indicate rooms with universal design features.

    The welcome draft beer and snacks were very good. It would be helpful if the outdoor bath shower had some measures to prevent it from getting cold in winter. I felt that the number and quantity of dinner dishes were less than those at other similar Ryokans I recently visited. The desserts were similar, and each portion was large. How about offering a choice or downsizing? Breakfast also seemed slightly lacking. Recently, I've often been directed to a free drink corner on another floor after meals, but it always feels disappointing. Is there a staff shortage?

    I expected a traditional Ryokan, but was disappointed with the Hotel format. The Room, service, and Facility were good, and dinner was delicious; however, breakfast was disappointing and I felt it did not offer good value for money.

    It was amazing!

    I visited with my parents. The Room was clean, the meals were delicious, and the Onsen was fantastic—everything was absolutely satisfying. My elderly father usually doesn't eat much, but he said both dinner and breakfast here were delicious and finished everything. I planned this trip to see his happy face, and thanks to Sansuirou, I was able to achieve that goal. Thank you very much. I will visit again while my father is still in good health.

    Enjoyed the Yugawara Onsen

    It was a long-awaited Onsen trip for our family of three. The building had some historical charm, but the renovated bath and room were very clean and comfortable. The quality of the Onsen in the open-air bath with a view and the large public bath suited me well, allowing for a relaxing time. The meals were very delicious, varied, and enjoyable. It was also nice that the dining area was semi-private. However, the hallway and dining area were a bit cold. The complimentary offerings of draft beer and coffee in the lobby were delightful and lifted our spirits. Overall, the attentiveness and service of the staff were excellent, and I felt that everyone was making efforts to carry on the legacy of a good Ryokan. I would like to visit again if I have the opportunity.

    The open-air bath in the room and the meals (especially breakfast) were good, but the customer service could use some improvement. Additionally, the facilities are aging, which affects the level of satisfaction. Details below: - Indoor open-air bath: The greenery spread out in front was very relaxing. However, there is a concern about security as people at the bus stop can be seen (which means they might be able to see us too?). - Meals: Breakfast was particularly good. As for dinner, some dishes had a vague taste (not too bland or too strong). Also, the specialty yuba was placed before we were seated, so it had hardened, and its quality was not apparent. - Customer service: There were many new staff members, and despite the shortage of personnel, I thought the company was making efforts amid hiring difficulties. However, the explanation from the person who guided us to the room was unclear (lacking objects, making it hard to understand what they were talking about), they asked about things we had already mentioned, and there were many mutterings like "um" and "is this okay?" which made us uneasy. I think it would be better if they received sufficient training before working on-site. - Facilities: It can't be helped, but the water facilities, in particular, felt quite aged, and we refrained from using the indoor bath. Not limited to Yugawara, there are many Onsen Ryokan and Hotels within a similar price range that can be reached in about two hours from Tokyo, and I think the competition is tough. I hope they continue to do their best in the future.

    It was a disappointing stay.

    This was my third stay. The meals and Onsen were wonderful. However, people on the same floor were noisy until late at night. I contacted for improvement twice, but it was not resolved, and on the third attempt, no one answered the phone. In the end, the party? did not end until after 2 a.m., and I could not sleep. I am extremely disappointed.

    We used it as a three-generation family. It is a large, old Ryokan, but the service is good, and both the food and the bath are very satisfying. Since there are three buildings, it is a bit disappointing that the distance from the Room to the dining area and the large bath is far, and the hallway in between is cold.

    I visited during the New Year.

    At first, I didn't feel it was a luxury stay. The interior has the feel of an old-fashioned onsen property and is quite worn out. It's nostalgic, but compared to recent properties, it feels a bit disappointing. For customer service, we were attended by a foreign staff member. They guided us through the property carefully, but their Japanese was still lacking, and we couldn't understand more than half of what was said. This reflects the current labor shortage in Japan, but there was an undeniable mismatch with the purely Japanese-style ryokan. The onsen was good. Both the open-air bath with a view and the large bath on the first floor had a comfortable temperature and were pleasant to enter. The meals were not bad, but there were no dishes that left a strong impression or made me think "delicious!" Overall I felt that the long-established ryokan was making a sincere effort to catch up with the current trendy ryokans, but there are still areas for improvement. Unfortunately, I don't feel like repeating my stay, but I don't have a bad impression. Thank you very much.

    A wonderful traditional Ryokan

    I had visited before with my parents, and this time I stayed with my children using the last-minute room assignment plan. The food and service were excellent, and we had a pleasant stay. In the lounge, we enjoyed beer in the evening and sweet red bean soup and mandarins in the morning. Since we made the reservation at the last minute, only the room assignment plan was available, and we had a room with two beds and futons. My son was bitten by an insect on the futon he slept on. I had read about this before, so I checked the futons in the closet, but they didn't seem to be properly maintained. It might be due to a shortage of staff, but it's disappointing. However, it is a wonderful ryokan that makes you want to visit again for the food. All the staff were excellent. I hope for the revival of in-room dining.
