    Given the luxury pri...

    Given the luxury price, I expected exceptional dining and hospitality, but it was just an ordinary Onsen Accommodation. It was not worth the price at all. The staff coordination was far from top-class. A disappointing Hotel that tarnishes the Kanaya name.

    Surrounded by Manju Buns

    I had the pleasure of staying at the Kinugawa Kanaya Hotel I’ve long admired. It was a wonderful Accommodation, just as the reviews said. Not only was the service excellent, but both breakfast and dinner were outstanding and delicious. The drink I ordered at dinner was non-alcoholic, but it was so good it made me think, “As expected—Kanaya Hotel!” The chocolate bar also had a great atmosphere and was delicious. I’d like to share what disappointed me. First, when I entered the Room and tried to sit on the floor chair, several strands of hair fell out. If it had been one or two strands, I could have overlooked it, but seeing multiple hairs really dampened my mood. Second, I was asked to choose one of three scents for the aroma diffuser, but it turned out to be a different scent from what I selected. If mistakes happen, I don’t see the point in offering a choice. Third was the late-night inari sushi. Because the meal at Kanaya Dining was so delicious, my expectations were high. The moment I put it in my mouth, there was an odd sweetness that made me regret eating it. It felt like it spoiled a palate that had been satisfied by such great food, which was very disappointing. Aside from these points, it was a very good stay overall. I’d love to go back just to eat at John Kanaya Dining again.

    It was absolutely wonderful!

    I love Onsen and always stay at a Hotel with rooms that have an open-air bath. I visit Atami, Hakone, Fukushima, and Kinugawa at least 10 times a year, but this was my first time at Kanaya Hotel. The teppanyaki meal was wonderful, and the bath was amazing! I definitely want to come again—thank you very much.

    A great Accommodation.

    This was my first visit. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed, and I was happy to see the staff member who guided us to our Room. Overall, it was a stay that made me glad we chose to stay here, but there were a few points that concerned me. First, I was disappointed with the service from the staff member in charge at dinner. After we chose our drinks and my husband said, “Beer and white wine, please,” we were asked, “Is that all?”—and then, to my surprise, both drinks were placed in front of my husband. Also, I had brought a box of tissues because my nose wasn’t feeling well, but there was no particular consideration and nowhere to dispose of used tissues, so I put them into my own bag. In contrast, at breakfast a male staff member quickly placed a trash bin by my feet and said kindly, “That must be tough.” I felt there was a noticeable difference in attentiveness depending on the staff member. The dinner appetizers looked nice visually, but after finishing them we weren’t sure where to place the dishes. The presentation involving lighting the dish on fire also didn’t feel suited to what was being served. Because the food, sauce, and dishware were similar in color tones as well, it was hard to see the sauce—there were several aspects that stood out. The food itself was delicious across the board, so I believe its appeal would come through 충분ly even without excessive presentation. Lastly, we stayed here to celebrate a birthday; however, the writing on the birthday plate was very disappointing. It looked like it had been written by a child just learning how to write for the first time—and because it was meant for a celebration occasionally special moment for us، it left us very disappointed. I won’t share names here، but it’s honestly disappointing enough that I’d like you to see it. I hope you will practice more going forward.

    We had a wonderful s...

    We had a wonderful stay thanks to the outstanding hospitality. From the entrance and dining area to the guest rooms, everything was thoughtfully designed with a calm, refined atmosphere, making it extremely comfortable. All of the staff were very kind and provided warm, attentive service. The Kanaya Hotel items in the souvenir corner were also lovely—designs like cookie tins and chocolate boxes that look great on display at home. When we visit Kinugawa again, we will definitely stay here again. Thank you very much.

    It was a wonderful Hotel.

    Not only were the Hotel and furnishings wonderful, but the staff’s warm hospitality made our stay truly comfortable. The women’s bath in the evening was clean and spacious, and it seems the men’s bath had a sauna at just the right temperature. In the dining area, we could relax without worrying about other guests, and we enjoyed each dish while being introduced to a variety of delicious foods. After dinner, we were able to choose chocolates to take back to our Room, which delighted our children. Inari sushi was also prepared as a late-night snack in the Room, and it was delicious as well. Our whole family said we would love to stay again.

    Excellent in every way!

    From the time of our Reservation, and when you kindly stored our luggage before check-in, the staff treated us naturally and courteously, setting a wonderful tone for our stay even before we arrived. Both dinner and breakfast were far from ordinary—each dish showed thoughtful creativity and careful preparation. Everything was delicious from start to finish. The Onsen and Room were excellent, and considering the outstanding food, the staff’s warm hospitality, and the flawless operation overall, we would absolutely love to return. Being able to stay on my birthday made it an especially memorable experience. We were completely satisfied.

    A Hotel with a level of elegance and tradition not found in purely Western-style Hotels.

    This was my first stay at Kanaya Hotel. It is a truly exceptional Hotel, uniquely blending the foundations of a traditional Japanese Ryokan with refined Western elegance. The smooth wooden floors and tatami—no slippers needed—create a space where guests can relax most comfortably barefoot. Every carefully prepared and thoughtfully selected dish was fresh, beautifully showcasing the ingredients in highly sophisticated creations; simply outstanding. Above all, I was impressed by the staff’s well-trained yet natural hospitality. As expected of Kanaya Hotel. I would love to visit other Kanaya Hotels as well. Thank you for taking such good care of me.

    A high-quality Hotel that meets expectations

    This was our first trip as a family of three in a while. Since we don’t live in the Kanto area, we made the long trip to Kinugawa Onsen during Golden Week. We couldn’t get a Reservation at Nikko Kanaya Hotel, so we chose this property instead, and overall it met our expectations. The Room was spacious, had an in-room open-air bath, and was very well cleaned. From the window, fresh green mountains rose close by, and we truly enjoyed the much-talked-about “villa in the valley.” The large public bath was great on day one for women—there were two areas and it felt spacious. On day two (the previous day’s men’s side), it was smaller, so I appreciated that it seemed designed with women in mind. Each dish showed real care and effort. Even sashimi in the mountains was very fresh. The broth—the foundation of Japanese cuisine—had deep flavor, and soups were especially delicious. You could tell they paid close attention to serving temperatures as well; I thought it must be tough during such a busy Golden Week period. The richness of the white miso in the beef stew was also excellent. Just one thing: we were told dinner would take about two hours, and it did feel a bit long. We wanted to finish earlier to go try their famous chocolate, so I rated it 4 stars. Breakfast was also thoughtfully prepared. My husband chose Western-style while I chose Japanese-style so we could sample both. The vegetables and mountain greens were fresh, natto was tasty, and my husband loved Kanaya Bakery’s bread. One more suggestion here would be allowing free refills of rice—our big-eating family wished they would simply leave an extra rice pot on the table for those who want more (perhaps asking guests who seem likely to eat more). I understand they may be trying to avoid food waste. Overall, the staff service was attentive throughout, and we were very satisfied.

    I had a relaxing stay. I’m very satisfied. Just one suggestion: it would be even better if hot items were served in warm dishes and cold items in chilled dishes. This is a Ryokan I’d like to visit again if I have the chance.

    We had a very relaxing stay—thank you so much.

    I previously stayed at Kanaya in Hakone, but this was my first time in Kinugawa. It had been a Hotel I’d wanted to visit for a long time, so I was truly excited. The Room had been recently renovated and was beautiful and spotless. It felt very spacious, and I was able to relax completely. Although the semi-open-air bath in the Room cannot be temperature-adjusted by hand, one call to the front desk brought it to the perfect temperature right away, so there was no inconvenience at all. Compared with Hakone’s open-air bath, which felt a bit too shallow and slightly odd to me, this was a bath I could have stayed in forever. The only slight downside was that conversations from nearby Rooms carried more loudly than expected. The staff—from younger team members to international staff—were neither overly intrusive nor too hands-off, and everyone gave me the impression of being well trained in the classical style of hospitality that I personally prefer. As for the meals, they were based on orthodox Japanese cuisine; although it shares roots with John Kanaya, it left a different impression from my previous stay in Hakone. If Hakone’s cuisine is energetic and boldly experimental—aiming to surprise guests—then here it felt calmer: dishes that let anyone enjoy the quiet depth of Japanese food along with freshness that never misses its mark (just my personal impression). Overall, it truly met my expectations—if not exceeded them—and it was a wonderful Hotel. However, if I had to mention one drawback: every dish that should have been served hot arrived “lukewarm.” The soup bowl had cooled so much that the lid wouldn’t come off easily; the extra tempura had absorbed moisture and turned soggy; even after the solid fuel burned out under the beef stew, there wasn’t any steam rising from it. If this was meant as consideration to prevent guests from getting burned, it felt like a bit too much… That said, everything else more than made up for it—the food was delicious overall, and I’m grateful for how beautifully both my eyes and palate were allowed to enjoy spring as a season—so it did feel all the more unfortunate.

    The breakfast menu could use some improvement.

    This time, we chose the teppanyaki course and selected Western and Japanese breakfasts separately. For the Western breakfast, we chose a hot sandwich, but it was essentially just cheese toast, and we didn’t feel the value of the live teppanyaki cooking. Standard items such as an egg dish, coffee, and fresh orange juice were not served at all, which was disappointing for a breakfast at this price level. The Japanese breakfast’s dried nodoguro (blackthroat seaperch) was outstanding, so choosing the Japanese option seems like the only choice here.

    Kanaya Pride

    I felt a strong sense of pride in everything—the building, the Facility, the services, and especially the staff. It was clear that what needed to be updated had been improved, while what should be preserved has been carefully maintained. Nothing felt overlooked; there was thoughtful attention to every detail, and the building itself is treated with great care. I was slightly disappointed that I couldn’t receive the member benefits mentioned at check-in, but I still had a very pleasant stay until the end. I’d love to return again as a special treat for ourselves.

    It was a cozy Hotel.

    This was our second stay. When we visited four and a half years ago, the beef stew at dinner was so delicious that my family asked to come back for it, so we decided to return. The Hotel has a calm atmosphere, and all the furnishings were wonderful—I found myself admiring them for quite a while. Unfortunately, the mist sauna in the bath was out of order, but we were given some sweets as an apology when we checked out, which was very kind of you. The meals were delicious as well, and I was happy to finally enjoy the beef stew again. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us.

    I had a very relaxing stay.

    I decided to splurge and made a Reservation this time. Above all, the Room was very quiet, and I could relax without being bothered by any surrounding noise. The bath in the Room was wonderful, and the temperature was just right—I lost count of how many times I used it (lol). The large public bath was great as well. The Hotel staff were extremely courteous, and their sense of distance was perfect. Every dish was delicious. I enjoyed the variety of sashimi, but the vinegared miso sauce—wow—was unbelievably good and went perfectly with drinks. The simmered dishes and grilled items were also excellent. The beef stew was, of course, outstanding. Also, although we added one serving of mountain vegetable tempura, they thoughtfully set up dipping sauce and salt for two people—such a nice touch. We really enjoyed that too. After dinner, there was complimentary chocolate service, which we ate in our Room. There were also inari sushi set out; even though we were full, we ended up eating them late at night (lol). For breakfast, we could choose between Japanese-style or Western-style meals. We each chose one this time, but next time I want to stay two nights and try both myself. The Western pot-au-feu & bread—and especially the rice & omelet—were particularly delicious. Bread, rice, and miso soup were all refillable free of charge. They also drove us to the station on our way back, which was very helpful. Overall, it was a very satisfying trip. I truly want to recommend this place to others—and I will definitely come again. Thank you very much!

    Enjoy a relaxing one-night stay.

    I felt very relaxed. It was my first time, and I came to unwind, so I was glad it was quiet. However, perhaps because the wind was strong, I noticed some noise from the terrace area. The bath also felt wonderful and was excellent. Thank you very much.

    The open-air bath in the Room was amazing! And as always, the Hotel staff’s hospitality was wonderful, so I could truly relax. I also enjoyed the teppanyaki—it was delicious. The person working in the teppanyaki dining area was so cheerful and fun, which made it a really great time. This was my first trip since getting sick, and I truly appreciated all your thoughtful support. I wasn’t sure where to go… but of course, Kinugawa Kanaya Hotel! I’m so glad we came. Next time, I’d like to try dining in the main restaurant.

    The Hotel had been f...

    The Hotel had been fully renovated and was very clean. It was neither too large nor too small, and the comfortable scale made it easy to get around. We also appreciated the complimentary beer, juice, and other drinks in our Room, as well as the tasty immunity drink after the Onsen. During dinner, they helped us celebrate a 60th birthday, which became a wonderful memory.

    An Accommodation You’ll Want to Visit Again

    With attentive hospitality, the interior design and lighting were also wonderful, and we had a very comfortable stay. The large public bath was clean and very pleasant. We also enjoyed the open-air bath and sauna. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. The after-meal chocolates were especially tasty. Thank you as well for the late-night snack. We headed home with chocolates and other treats as souvenirs. This was an Accommodation we were extremely satisfied with, and would love to visit again.

    The coordination amo...

    The coordination among the staff was disappointing. I chose this traditional hotel expecting excellent service, but unfortunately, it did not meet my expectations. While it may have been partly my fault for not clearly stating all my requests, the service during meals was very disappointing. Despite requesting no raw eggs due to my pregnancy, I found a raw egg when I cracked it open. The staff who guided us to our room and the Onsen were very satisfactory. Overall, the impression from the meal experience left a strong impact. As this trip was meant to be a memorable one before giving birth, it left me feeling sad. However, both the room and Onsen were excellent.

    Undoubtedly the No.1 accommodation.

    A facility that combines the best of both a hotel and a ryokan, with systems and, above all, services that anticipate what we hope for. I was amazed to discover such an accommodation exists.     It was truly amazing!

    This was my first stay, and I had a very relaxing time with excellent hospitality. The meals were especially delicious and beautifully presented—truly outstanding. However, since everything else was perfect, it was a bit disappointing to see dust accumulated on the hairdryer in the bathroom. Other than that, everything was truly wonderful, and I would love to stay again. This is an accommodation for adults.

    All the staff members are wonderful.

    The interior design and Facility are, of course, wonderful, but what truly stands out is the staff. Their attentive service and warm smiles made my stay incredibly comfortable. If I may make a suggestion: regarding the "upgraded dishes" on the dinner menu, how about including an option where guests can choose ○○ dish by adding XX yen to the main dish? It might feel more seamless if such options were available from the start, even if it increases the price slightly. This small detail slightly detracted from an otherwise fantastic experience.
