    The meals were excellent.

    This was my second visit. While the building shows its age, I appreciated experiencing the historical architecture. However, the Room I stayed in this time was slightly different from the photos, which made me reflect on my choice. What stood out as excellent were the staff, the bath, and the teppanyaki experience. Although it ended up being a private dining experience, I thoroughly enjoyed delicious fish and meat after a long time. Conversations with a wonderful female chef made it even more delightful. Thank you very much!

    As expected, excellent.

    My elderly mother always said, "When it comes to Atami, it's Daikanso," so I had always wanted to stay there if given the chance. Finally, I was able to fulfill my dream and stay at the renowned Daikanso. The staff were all courteous and displayed exceptional hospitality. The room and facilities were well-maintained, allowing for a very pleasant stay. The highlight was the "Sanno no Yu" bath; it was so wonderful that I found myself enjoying a long soak while gazing at the sea. The kaiseki cuisine served in a private room was beautifully presented in seasonal dishes and absolutely delicious. This accommodation truly pays attention to its guests with subtle yet thoughtful service. I look forward to staying here again someday and will work hard in my daily life until then! Thank you for taking care of us during our stay!

    An inspiring accommodation you'll want to visit again.

    I felt truly healed and glad I visited. The meals were plentiful and delicious, served in seasonal and beautifully shaped dishes, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The view from the Onsen was wonderful, and since it wasn’t crowded with others, I could relax comfortably. The massage chair in the room was incredibly useful. The staff's attentiveness was much appreciated; they kindly responded to even small requests or questions we had. When taking a commemorative photo at the entrance upon departure, their thoughtful gesture of quickly closing the door for a better shot was also very considerate. I had a trip where I could enjoy delicious food and relax as I wished. I would highly recommend this place to others!

    The meals are delicious.

    We had a baby with us and may have caused some inconvenience, but the service was excellent. Above all, the dinner was truly delicious!! There were three Onsen baths, and even the indoor bath was an Onsen, which was amazing. The view from the room was also stunning, truly befitting a luxury Ryokan.

    It was a wonderful meal.

    The meals were focused on quality ingredients in small portions, but the quantity was sufficient and very satisfying. The ocean view from Sanno's hot spring was also beautiful. I would love to visit again during the autumn foliage season. Since the building is long and spacious, depending on your Room location, the distance to the bath might feel a bit far.

    It was an accommodation beyond my expectations, and I became a fan.

    I made a last-minute reservation for the most affordable standard room plan without any prior research, and I was pleasantly surprised by the spacious room. It offered a view of the sea through the garden trees, had a massage chair, and even featured an onsen bath directly accessible from the faucet. The welcome drink was a monthly special cocktail prepared by a bartender, which I enjoyed in the historic "Daikan Room" while admiring the garden. The three unique baths all included saunas and alternated between men and women daily. Among them, "Sanno no Yu," with its expansive ocean view, is highly recommended to use when available. Meals were served in private dining rooms instead of communal spaces. A staff member explained each dish of delicious seasonal Kyoto-style kaiseki cuisine served on beautiful tableware. Both dinner and breakfast were luxurious, leaving me feeling satisfied both emotionally and physically. The outdoor corridors overlooking gardens and ponds were impeccably clean (no insects spotted), maintaining an elegant atmosphere without feeling outdated. Seasonal decorations like paintings or flowers adorned areas such as alcoves, while coffee and tea were freely available in a serene Western-style lounge near the lobby. Each bath also provided towels for immediate use on-site. Despite some older architectural elements throughout the accommodation, thoughtful services ensured comfort during my stay. Access was convenient as well; although I switched from driving to taking public transportation at short notice, I could easily board a shuttle service from Atami Station without prior reservation. However, since the building is situated on a slope with many stairs, elevators, and long hallways involved in getting around, those with mobility concerns should consult with staff beforehand. This accommodation offers an ideal retreat for adults seeking relaxation in Atami—I would love to stay here again!

    First Accommodation Stay with Friends During Obon Holidays

    I stayed here with a friend I hadn't seen in a long time. As mentioned in the reviews, the facility is spacious and complex, so it's easy to understand how one could get lost. Thanks to the map, signboards, and staff guidance, we managed just fine. Our room was far from the front desk, so it took some time to get to the bath and dining areas. The meals were delicious for both breakfast and dinner. Even though we ate slowly, it seemed like they adjusted their service pace to match ours. They also kindly replaced ingredients we didn't prefer with alternatives, which was much appreciated. The welcome drink was served in a glass with a large round ice cube and freshly prepared upon order—it was very tasty and allowed us to enjoy a relaxing moment. The smallest bath area got crowded at times with no available washing spaces when other guests overlapped there; however, other baths were spacious enough depending on timing. One concern I had was the smell in our room—a unique damp odor that persisted even when running an air purifier at full capacity—so I had to deduct points for that aspect of the room. Staff members passing by often greeted us warmly or offered assistance as needed; combined with how spacious everything felt overall made for an incredibly peaceful stay experience. I loved having access along hallways where tea dispensers (including coffee options) were conveniently placed! Unfortunately due lack of time only spent about ten minutes enjoying footbath but found stones beneath feet soothing nonetheless! Since this visit didn’t coincide w/fireworks event happening nearby next-time plan return during such occasion catch display firsthand!

    Completely satisfied in every way!!

    We stayed for one night on a family trip to Atami, looking for a unique Ryokan-style accommodation with distinctive cuisine rather than a large-scale hotel. We were drawn to the fact that it was once frequented by Yokoyama Taikan (possibly as his villa?) and decided to stay here. The surrounding environment and garden are well-maintained, and the interior has an elegant atmosphere where you can walk through hallways overlooking the garden. The staff's service was not overly intrusive but thoughtful, such as arranging the futon while we were out enjoying the Onsen after asking about our schedule. Above all, the quality of ingredients during meals stood out, with dishes prepared in a way that naturally enhanced their flavors rather than being overly elaborate. Everything about our stay was absolutely satisfying.

    Accommodation with the best Onsen

    We used the accommodation for a family birthday celebration, and we were very satisfied with the excellent service, delicious meals, clean room, and above all, the amazing onsen. The accommodation is spacious, so it’s easy to get a little lost. However, it was such a wonderful place that we would love to come back again.

    I would love to visit again.

    We stayed as sisters and thoroughly enjoyed the bath and meals. Beautiful flowers were elegantly arranged everywhere, creating a lovely atmosphere. The welcome drink, a chilled watermelon cocktail, was refreshing and delicious. The Shuttle Service driver was kind and very helpful. However, one disappointing point was the lack of clear explanation during payment at the front desk. It would be great if it could be explained more clearly for those unfamiliar with the process. Other than that, it is an excellent place, and we would love to visit again!

    A Wonderful Anniversary

    We stayed as a family of four to celebrate my father's 88th birthday. The celebratory meal was delicious and beautifully presented, which deeply moved my father. We enjoyed the magnificent garden and three distinct Onsen at a leisurely pace, and the staff were very kind to us. It was such a wonderful accommodation that we would love to stay again.

    We stayed here for our first trip to Atami as a couple. Both in our 30s, we chose this accommodation for relaxation and were extremely satisfied. From the warm hospitality and thoughtful care of the staff to the seasonal cuisine with perfectly balanced flavors that highlighted the ingredients, everything was delightful. The traditional decor of the ryokan, the soothing onsen, and every aspect exceeded our expectations. Although we often visit various onsen destinations, this stay was exceptionally satisfying. This ryokan is highly recommended for anyone who wants to enjoy sightseeing while also relaxing and unwinding at their accommodation regardless of age. We would love to return again in the future.     We stayed for 2 nights and 3 days to celebrate our wedding anniversary. From the confirmation call the day before, to the specially prepared celebratory meal considering my wife's preferences, and even a commemorative gift, we received heartfelt hospitality. The staff kindly interacted with us, allowing us to take many photos together. The attendant assigned to us was very pleasant and considerate, even waving goodbye warmly as we left—such kindness was truly appreciated. It turned out to be a wonderful wedding anniversary; thank you very much. The room was spacious and comfortable with a bedroom, Japanese-style room, sofa, massage chair, a large balcony with chairs overlooking the sea—it had everything we needed. However, since the Ryokan's premises were so vast that getting to the public bath felt like navigating a maze, it was challenging for my wife who has hip issues; hence I deducted one star for this reason. Fortunately, our room had its own private Onsen sourced from natural hot springs which sufficed perfectly. This was our first time staying at this Ryokan but not our first visit to Atami; therefore we enjoyed relaxing in our room with Onsen baths and using the massage chair without venturing outside anywhere else. Having welcome drinks in a room associated with Yokoyama Taikan-sensei added an emotional touch as well. While yukata were provided but unfamiliar for us wearers—having samue available instead proved helpful too! Additionally though located outside rooms—a free coffee station alongside roasted green tea became frequently utilized by ourselves during stay duration!     Accommodation as an Art Museum

    Revisited for our 35th wedding anniversary! This is truly the Ryokan loved by the great master Yokoyama Taikan! The Japanese welcome drink served in the room where Taikan stayed was delightful, and this Ryokan perfectly blends traditional charm with modern convenience, cleanliness, and comfort. You can feel the essence of the master's sensibilities here. Although it was a cloudy day before the rainy season, we enjoyed a stunning view of Hatsushima and Oshima (a rare sight) from our top-floor room. We repeatedly opened the doors to soak in our private bath, sipped beer on the deck, and indulged in an extraordinary experience that left us feeling refreshed. Of course!! The food was exceptional!! The historical tableware unique to this accommodation added charm to every dish. Fresh sashimi with its perfect texture, beautifully presented dishes, tender abalone, sweet aftertaste of beef—everything was flawless! Last time we had sukiyaki; this time it was shabu-shabu—both were beyond words! Every dish reflected seasonal elegance and meticulous preparation; we ate until we were completely satisfied. The architecture of this Ryokan is intricate enough to get lost at times but adorned with paintings and fresh flowers everywhere—it felt like stepping into a timeless art museum where every corner offered new discoveries and joy. We were deeply touched by all the thoughtful gestures for our special occasion—thank you so much to all staff members at this Ryokan! We look forward to visiting again during another season!

    Relax and unwind.

    I had another relaxing and leisurely stay this time. The welcome drink, which started this year, could be enjoyed at any time, so I sipped it while admiring the garden after a bath. I am grateful for the thoughtful consideration in accommodating my food preferences. The menu was even adjusted with alternative dishes, and I am always impressed by such attentive service. Regarding the yukata size in the Room, perhaps based on past records? It was perfectly prepared without any size request from me. The staff always provide a comfortable experience—neither too close nor too distant. Although I cannot visit on my actual birthday, I look forward to celebrating during my birth month in July!

    Excellent service.

    During my stay, I didn't realize it, but two weeks later when I stayed at another Ryokan in the same price range, there were many moments where I thought, "Daikanso would have done this for me," such as providing a napkin to protect my clothes when dining in casual attire. I was truly impressed by the subtle and exceptional service at Daikanso. The interior felt like a maze, but there were multiple routes back to the Room, making it enjoyable to explore while finding my way around.

    A relaxing trip with my daughter to unwind from daily fatigue. This was my second visit to Atami, while it was my daughter's fourth. Atami is convenient for sightseeing and food tours around the station, and it's easily accessible from Tokyo. Since I’m not fond of large hotels, I stayed at a ryokan slightly away from the station last time. This time, I chose Daikanso for its similar atmosphere. The room was spacious, very quiet, and perfect for a leisurely stay. The garden was beautiful with flowers arranged throughout the property, which was truly soothing. The meals were delicious as well; thank you for accommodating our request regarding shellfish allergies. However, I found the amenities slightly disappointing—while having two sinks in the bathroom is helpful, there seemed to be fewer towels than expected. Other than that minor issue, we were very satisfied and had an enjoyable stay overall! Thank you so much!

    60th Birthday Celebration Trip

    We visited for a 60th birthday celebration trip with friends. From the historical Japanese-style entrance to the Western-style welcome drink, our excitement for the accommodation grew. The onsen temperature was perfect, and we enjoyed all three onsens. The footbath in the breeze was also incredibly relaxing. Every dish in the meal was thoughtfully prepared and absolutely delicious. We were also deeply touched by your thoughtful gesture for our celebration. The courteous phone call before our stay, room upgrade, and warm greetings and service from all staff members made us feel very welcomed. After deciding on Atami Onsen as our destination for this memorable trip, we researched various accommodations together. Choosing this place turned out to be an excellent decision.     Perfect Accommodation for Special Occasions

    We stayed for one night in March to celebrate a special occasion with my parents. I inquired about additional orders beforehand, and the staff responded kindly, which made my mother very happy—I’m glad I asked. Choosing an accommodation that suits both my mother’s and father’s preferences can be challenging, but everything from the room to the onsen and meals was excellent! The massage chair in the room was a hit; we all took turns using it, and it kept my father entertained as well. My father loves alcohol, so he got really excited about the welcome drink. Having stayed at many accommodations before, this unique style at Daikanso felt special and was truly delightful—it tasted amazing too! One suggestion would be to offer larger portions of sake during meals; most were served as 180ml (1 go), so having 300ml or bottle options would have been even better.

    The food was especially delicious. The building itself is old, but it is clean, well-maintained, and has a nice atmosphere. The garden is also beautiful. Free koi fish food was provided as well. All the staff were very pleasant and welcoming with smiles. They offered both yukata and jinbei (separate top and bottom), which was a nice touch. I would love to visit again if I have the chance!

    Named after Yokoyama Taikan, a renowned artist who loved this accommodation. It was a dream to stay here, and I finally made it happen. Located on a small hill near Atami Station in a famous tourist area, the scenic beauty is truly the privilege of this long-established accommodation—exactly the view that captivated Taikan. Many artists, including Masuo Ikeda, once had studios in Atami as well. This accommodation has an old-fashioned charm in the best way possible. It is well-maintained and clean, which adds to its appeal. The sloped grounds feature a beautifully tended garden that would impress any Japanese guest with its meticulous care. While service quality can vary depending on staff members—some greet guests warmly while others do not—I hope for further improvement as an organization overall. That said, the shuttle service driver provided exceptional hospitality; their courteous driving and consideration for pedestrians and locals made me feel genuinely happy during the ride. The Onsen water was excellent as well. Although the Onsen facility itself is old, I personally found it atmospheric and full of character. Meals were prepared to highlight natural ingredients without unnecessary embellishments—a refined dining experience that left me deeply satisfied with perfect fullness. I hope this accommodation continues to stay true to its timeless concept without being swayed by fleeting trends. Cost Performance: ★4/5

    We stayed at the accommodation during Golden Week with three generations of our family. The room on the top floor, named "Fuji," offered an absolutely stunning view. My mother was delighted by the beautiful flowers arranged in a vase, and there were also several flower arrangements throughout the facility, which added a warm touch of hospitality. The meals were seasoned to highlight the natural flavors of the ingredients, making them enjoyable until the very last bite without feeling repetitive. The portions were just right, so we didn’t feel overly full. The private bath in our room was our favorite. With a cypress tub filled with hot spring water and an open window offering breathtaking views, it felt like an outdoor bath—truly exceptional. While the public bath was clean and allowed for a relaxing soak, we did notice a chlorine smell that was slightly disappointing. The Simmons bedding provided us with an incredibly comfortable night's sleep. Both the staff who assisted us during our stay and those at reception were exceptionally kind and attentive. After checking out, they contacted us about forgotten items and even brought them to us when we returned so that we didn’t have to get out of our taxi—they even saw us off afterward. Our taxi driver mentioned that this accommodation values its employees highly as a workplace. Perhaps this positive work environment contributes to their excellent hospitality toward guests. We are glad to have stayed at such a wonderful accommodation. Thank you very much!

    Thanks to the warm hospitality of the Ryokan staff, three generations of our family—mother, daughter, and grandmother—enjoyed a delightful 1-night, 2-day stay. The meals were carefully prepared from the appetizers to the final rice dish, and it was evident in every bite. Even my mother, who is recovering from an illness, had a good appetite. My daughter particularly enjoyed feeding the koi fish and exploring the garden. Thank you very much!

    The meals, service, and Facility were all excellent. There are multiple large baths, but one of them was slightly old. Considering it is a historic Ryokan, this is understandable but still noticeable. The meals, both dinner and breakfast, were great. Warm dishes were served warm and cold dishes cold. Especially the grilled dried fish at breakfast was warm and very satisfying. The service by the young male staff was efficient and pleasant. Even for a traditional Ryokan, I think it's fine not to have women in kimono serving guests. This was my third stay here, and I would like to visit again.

    The accommodation is priced on the higher side, but it offers an experience worth the cost. While some signs of aging can be seen in the facility, the interior is well-maintained and provides a comfortable atmosphere throughout.     Thank you for your hospitality the other day. The meals were delicious, and the staff were very pleasant. The Onsen was also excellent. However, the layout of the facility felt like a maze, and I got lost several times trying to find the bath. The view from the room was also a bit disappointing.
