Unlike many modern Resort Hotels, this was a wonderful Hotel with a real sense of history. I forgot to upgrade the dinner plan, but we were still served a large abalone, and although the staff member who explained the dishes was quite young, they were very capable. The Onsen at Sanno had a great view and was excellent.

    More than satisfied beyond expectations

I stayed in Atami for the first time in 40 years. With so many Accommodations to choose from, I wasn’t sure where to stay, but although it was a bit pricey, I’m glad I chose Taikanso. The Onsen baths—three in total—each had their own unique atmosphere, and every meal was carefully prepared with a wide variety of dishes, all of them delicious. We also thoroughly enjoyed the Atami Sea Fireworks Festival with an outstanding view from the rooftop. The Accommodation has a calm ambiance, the garden is beautiful, and the staff provided attentive service. It truly feels like a luxurious getaway. It became a wonderful summer vacation memory.

    A Comfortable Accommodation

I stayed here last week. The Room offered a panoramic view of Sagami Bay—an outstanding location. I especially enjoyed the in-room hot spring bath with free-flowing source water. I’ll never forget the taste of the chilled guricha tea after bathing. Every meal was delicious, and the teppanyaki we had reserved for the next day was also excellent and truly satisfying. Above all, the staff’s warm and attentive service made our stay deeply relaxing. Thank you very much.

    Japanese Hospitality

We visited to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. This Accommodation appeared in a TV drama I watched in my twenties, and it had stayed in the back of my mind ever since—so I was finally able to visit this time. The view from the hilltop while enjoying the welcome drink was outstanding and truly lifted our spirits. The Room was spacious and spotless, and having two toilets made it very comfortable. The view from the deck of our 5th-floor Room was also wonderful—I could have looked at it forever. The meals were prepared with great care by the chef, with delicate, gentle seasoning, and we were completely satisfied. From the large public bath, the sea view from Sanno-no-Yu was spectacular. The staff’s hospitality—with warm smiles that never felt overbearing—was excellent. We were also happy to be greeted at the entrance upon arrival. Compared with more modern Onsen Ryokan or Hotels, some guests may feel the amenities are a bit limited; however, this Accommodation offers something even more valuable—a strong sense of what is special about Japan. I imagine it takes a great deal of effort to maintain this place over so many years, but I hope you will continue preserving this good old Japanese atmosphere. If I had to mention one downside personally: for someone like me with weak legs and back, moving around—such as getting to the large public bath or dining area via stairs—was quite difficult. I also found parts of the building a bit hard to navigate, so I would appreciate any improvements if possible. Thank you as well to the person who called us to confirm details the day before, and to the person who kindly came to retrieve our key after we mistakenly went straight to the station without returning it. We would love to visit again.

    A Comfortable Stay

Whenever I visit Atami, I always stay here. It’s neither too close nor too far, and your warm hospitality is truly comforting. The baths were also satisfying, with no crowds. I was able to purchase the in-Room sweets “Kogane Mochi” again this time as a souvenir (available outside of summer). Thank you for your help. They are delicious. As for the meals, this time I found the breakfast items overall a bit too salty. It certainly makes you want more rice and tea... The dried fish (kamasu) in particular was quite salty; it might have been milder with grated daikon served alongside. The salad dressing and yudofu were both soy-sauce based as well—I would have appreciated at least a slightly sweet sesame dressing for the salad. I always look forward to dining here because of the beautiful seasonal tableware, so it’s disappointing when the seasoning is too strong. It didn’t feel like this before... Still, I will visit again.

    An Accommodation with No Downsides

My spouse and I stayed for two nights. They called promptly regarding our requests and questions in advance, and responded to each one carefully. The staff’s attentiveness was truly thoughtful. After coming back from the heat outside, the chilled hand towels waiting in the refrigerator were especially appreciated. While the building does show its age, it felt very well maintained and thoroughly cleaned. We also enjoyed the welcome drink in a spacious tatami lounge while looking out over a beautiful garden—it really lifted our spirits. The meals lived up to their reputation: not flashy or novel, but we were able to savor carefully selected ingredients and dishes prepared with great care. For dinner, I highly recommend trying the teppanyaki restaurant “Shoka-an.” Being able to enjoy teppanyaki wagyu in a relaxed yukata after a bath is an experience you don’t often get. The wine selection is small but reasonably priced, and we also enjoyed chatting with the chef. Thank you very much.

We received a warm and heartfelt welcome.

We stayed as a family of four. It was the perfect place to relax. Both the historic building and the garden were wonderful, but what stayed with us most was the warm hospitality we received. The large public bath is available from early morning, and we enjoyed multiple baths, making our stay truly fulfilling.

I thoroughly enjoyed the comfort of this long-established Ryokan.

The atmosphere, the view, the beautifully maintained garden, the open-air bath with an ocean view, and the outstanding cuisine and hospitality—everything was wonderful. We were extremely satisfied. Thank you.

    We were very satisfied.

Thank you for accommodating us properly even though we contacted you at the last minute about our family celebration. Starting with the welcome drink, we were able to spend a very relaxing time. Both the meals and the Onsen were wonderful. Thank you for taking such good care of us.

    Your First Stay at Taikanso

Thank you so much for the wonderful Accommodation and the heartwarming celebratory meal to mark my recovery. I was deeply moved by the many gentle, understated dishes featuring gold leaf, as if they were made with my condition in mind. The kindness in each course seemed to sink into me, and I was able to spend a truly happy time. Thanks to you, I feel completely restored—not only physically, but emotionally as well. It reminded me once again that I need to take good care of my health so I can visit again. Thank you for such a lovely time after so long.

    An exquisite adults-only hideaway

It was our first stay in a while, and this is truly a wonderful Ryokan! From the moment we arrived, the welcome drink was delicious, and thanks to the thoughtful, kind staff, we were able to enjoy viewing the garden as well. The many dishes that let you fully savor seasonal Japanese cuisine were outstanding—especially the seafood. The three Onsen baths each have a different style, and all of them are excellent. With the Onsen and the massage chair in our Room, we felt completely refreshed—this is a superb adults-only hideaway where you can also enjoy an incredible feast. If possible, I would love to visit every month just for the料理. It’s easy to see why so many guests return again and again. Thank you for another wonderful experience.

A tranquil, traditional Accommodation for adults.

Warm hospitality from arrival to departure. Meals were served in a private room, and the cuisine was delicious and thoughtfully prepared. This is a serene Accommodation, and I truly appreciate the attentive care from the gentleman in the lounge. I also used the spa salon, which was excellent. I have stayed at many Accommodations, and this is one I can recommend. The only disappointment was the person who handled my phone inquiry about the shuttle bus.

We stayed here to celebrate my mother’s birthday.

I had a wonderful stay on my previous visit, so I came again for my mother’s birthday. However, this time the Room was difficult: to go to the restroom at night, we had to leave the living room light on, and it was too bright to sleep. That was the hardest part and very disappointing. It was also unfortunate that we ran into a large group of drunk guests, but I suppose that shows how popular this Ryokan is even on weekdays. That said, the staff’s hospitality was just as excellent as before. At dinner, they kindly repeated the same explanations right beside my mother, who has difficulty hearing. Everyone responded flexibly, politely, and with great care. These days, even luxury Ryokan often rely on manual-only service due to inbound tourism and many foreign staff members; in that sense, I feel this is a rare Ryokan where you can still experience traditional service. The inside of the Ryokan feels like a maze, but the Room is spacious and beautifully decorated with lovely flowers in the alcove area—perfect for relaxing in your Room. However, there were quite a few things that concerned me (the key wouldn’t lock properly and doors were hard to open/close), so I think some minor repairs would be helpful. I love hinoki baths in particular, but in every Onsen area I noticed a strong smell of disinfectant. The in-room Onsen had the best view; opening the window gives you an open-air bath feeling and it was wonderful. I would also appreciate it if the bath mat could be changed to a different type. The meals were also delicious, and this time you arranged various celebratory touches for us so we could truly enjoy ourselves. Even though I was full, everything tasted so good that I ended up finishing all the way through the final rice course. One more thing I love about this Ryokan is dessert featuring plenty of fruit.

    This is a wonderful accommodation.

My family and I have been visiting since I was little. The Facility has improved through renovations, yet it still has the same comforting atmosphere as ever. On our recent visit, I brought my mother, who has become a bit forgetful, but Daikanso was the one place she remembered clearly and she was truly delighted. The meals are flawless, the view from the bath is wonderful, and above all, the service is outstanding. This is an Accommodation I would love to return to again and again.

It was our first trip in a long time for the two of us, and we were very satisfied with our one-night stay—the meals, the bath, and the Room were all wonderful. Spending time while looking out at the garden filled us with calm comfort, and we are grateful that we could truly relax both body and mind. We also appreciate the thoughtful care from the staff.

    It was the best accommodation!

We stayed here as a couple, and we were able to spend a truly happy time, saying to each other that we had never been anywhere this wonderful before. From the phone call we received before our departure, we could already feel your kind hospitality, and everything—the atmosphere throughout the Ryokan, the Room, the large public bath, and the meals—was outstanding. Even though it is such a spacious Ryokan, it was impeccably clean in every corner, which genuinely impressed us. The weather was lovely as well, and we especially fell in love with the garden. Not only was the Ryokan itself wonderful, but all of the staff were exceptional too. It left a strong impression on us that everyone—from younger staff to more experienced members—greeted us with such warm smiles. This has become a Ryokan we will definitely return to. Thank you very much for everything.

    It was a wonderful Accommodation.

We stayed as a group of four in two Rooms as a reward trip for ourselves. The service, the guest Rooms (with a hinoki bath), the baths in the public bath area, and the meals were all outstanding, and we enjoyed a truly blissful time. The Ryokan felt like a maze at first and we couldn’t quite tell where we were, but that made exploring it even more fun. We fully enjoyed Atami’s fireworks, and we were very satisfied with the beautiful, spacious private dining Room and the warm hospitality. On the second day, we toured around Atami by private chartered taxi and made wonderful memories. Thank you very much.

    It was a wonderful R...

It was a wonderful Ryokan. The best part was how kind and welcoming the staff were. The garden is beautiful, and you can feed the koi. As others have mentioned, the grounds are spacious, so the layout inside can feel a bit complex. We stayed on a fireworks night, and the view from the rooftop was spectacular. Also, since we had a child with us, we really appreciated being seated in a private dining room, which allowed us to enjoy our meal without worrying about others. The Room had a massage chair, which was very relaxing. The only minor issue was that the trash bin was a little hard to find. We would definitely like to stay again.

    It was a relaxing Ryokan.

A shuttle minibus will pick you up at Atami Station. The walk is a fairly steep uphill climb, so it can be tiring. The exterior has the look of a traditional Ryokan. Inside is very clean, and the garden is wonderful. I didn’t have time to take it all in, but on a warm day you can sit on a chair and relax. There are three types of baths, and our Room also had an Onsen bath. My skin felt so smooth afterward. The staff were very kind and attentive. Meals are served in private dining rooms, so you won’t run into other guests. The food was also delicious. The grounds are very spacious, so you might even get lost on the way to the baths (in a good way). They upgraded our Room, and it was spacious with an amazing view. We had a great trip and would love to stay again.

The staff were highly professional, and I felt truly relaxed.

We stayed in two rooms. As I wrote in the Review for one of the rooms, it was a wonderful luxury Ryokan. The staff in every section were highly professional, and we felt very comfortable throughout our stay. From the entrance, the atmosphere was dignified and impressive, and my mother and uncle were delighted. The room interior was beautiful as well. The fresh flowers everywhere were tastefully arranged and really lifted our spirits. We would love to visit again. However, it was hard to find the way to the large public bath inside the Facility, so I rated only the Facility 3 stars. The Accommodation itself is clean and impressive.

It was a truly top-class Ryokan.

This was our first stay, celebrating my elderly mother, my uncle’s recovery, his 77th birthday (Kiju), and my eldest son’s birthday. Before the day of our visit, I called several times to ask about the celebratory meal and dining options, and each time I received very courteous advice, which helped us feel at ease. Although it rained that day, we were guided to an easy parking spot, and my mother—who has difficulty walking—was smoothly assisted. It truly felt professional. The tatami lounge for welcome drinks had a charming retro atmosphere that lifted our spirits. The staff’s guidance was impeccable. The route to the Room was a bit hard to follow, but a staff member accompanied us the whole way and even pushed the wheelchair for us, so it was no problem. The Room was wonderful, and the sweets were delicious—I wanted to buy them at the shop. Since my mother cannot use the large public bath, they kindly filled the in-room bath with natural hot spring water in advance. She was delighted. The cypress bath in the public area is a little difficult to reach, but once you’re in, it’s fantastic. Dinner was enjoyed in a splendid Japanese-style private room with warm hospitality and even celebratory gifts. Everything was delicious. Breakfast was also refined and tasty. When we left, everyone saw us off by the bus. We are grateful for such a fulfilling stay.

    I was satisfied.

This was my second stay. I’ve been visiting Atami for about 10 years, and it’s rare to find a Ryokan that has everything—food, baths, Room, views, and Facility—but this one was satisfying in almost every way. If I can have spiny lobster and abalone, I’m completely satisfied. The bath was spacious with a great view, making it a wonderful break.

An Accommodation You’ll Want to Return To

We were very glad we chose to stay at Daikanso. Our children were absolutely delighted as well. We booked a stay for our family of four to celebrate our children, and we were truly happy with the hospitality, which exceeded our expectations. Thanks to the attentive service, we felt that everyone working at Daikanso is highly experienced, and we were able to enjoy a comfortable and relaxing stay with complete peace of mind. In these times, it is a truly valuable Accommodation. We would like to continue staying here with care in the future. The meals were not only delicious; they also showed great attention to detail, from the tableware to selecting the right glasses for each drink, which made dining even more enjoyable. The superb abalone in particular was outstanding. Thank you very much for your thoughtful kindness during our stay.

The bath, Room, view, and meals were excellent.

We were very satisfied with this Ryokan. We drove there, and the access road is a bit tight, but that’s typical for Atami. Since I have trouble with my legs, we chose a Western-style room, but there are many stairs so it was a little challenging. It isn’t cheap, but the price felt fair.

    Highly satisfied

We visited as two women to unwind from work fatigue, and we were completely satisfied with everything—the meals, the Onsen, and the staff’s service. It is a historic Ryokan, and while the building itself shows its age, it was thoroughly cleaned and felt very fresh. There were fresh flowers arranged throughout, and above all, the hospitality from the staff was outstanding. We were first impressed by the welcome drink while looking out over the Japanese garden. The North Wing where our Room was located must have been renovated. It was a new building with a warm wooden feel, and our Room was Western-style. We used the Onsen in that wing; it was spacious with a great view overlooking the sea in Atami, and the quality of the Onsen water was excellent. The meals were also thoughtfully prepared to reflect the season, and everything was delicious. Among all the Accommodations we have stayed at so far, their attentive service is number one. More than anything else, it made for truly comfortable relaxation. If we have another chance, this is a Ryokan we would love to visit again for some healing time.

    Everything was great.

The staff were very courteous and attentive. I used the large public bath on the 4th floor, and both the changing area and the bathing area were clean and pleasant. I was able to relax in my Room, and all amenities were provided, so I had a very comfortable stay. The meals were also delicious. The price is a little high, but it is well worth staying here. I would like to stay again. Thank you for your hospitality.

This will be my go-to accommodation.

A short trip with my female friends in our 50s. From the bus driver to the staff in charge of our Room, the ladies at the dining area, and everyone at the front desk, we received such warm hospitality and had a very comfortable stay. The building is old, but it has the charm of a long-established place, which I really like. There were three large public baths as well, each with its own character, and they were all very relaxing. The meals were delicious and we were completely satisfied. An Accommodation I’d love to return to. Thank you very much.
