The parking lot is less than a 1-minute walk from the Accommodation, but cars cannot be brought right up to the entrance, so the proprietress came to our car to pick up our luggage. Dinner was the Shige-no-Ie group dining Plan; the hot pot was served with their homemade broth instead of ponzu, and it was very delicious. The soba rice porridge served at breakfast was also very tasty. However, we chose a room with an open-air bath, but perhaps due to its age, one tile had come off and there were quite a few dirty bits of sealant and debris floating in the water, which was disappointing. There were several other spots that felt loose when touched, so I think they should be repaired before more tiles come off. My husband used it and said both the Onsen and the garden were wonderful, but my daughter and I couldn’t use it because it felt unclean, which was unfortunate. All of the staff were easy to talk to and spoke to my daughter every time they saw her; everyone was very friendly and it was great.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. There was only one reason I came to Shirahama: To stay at Kuroshio Sou. When people think of Shirahama, many picture the sea and resorts. But what I found here was Wakayama itself. What moved me most at this Accommodation was not only how outstanding the food was. It was Head Chef Etani’s exceptional skill, and his deep respect for the producers who support every single dish. Fishermen. Farmers. Brewers. Roasters. And the artisans who continue to protect Japan’s fermentation culture. The moment I saw the map of producers introduced alongside the meal, I understood what this Accommodation truly values. Through the cuisine, you encounter not only ingredients, but also the people behind them and Wakayama’s climate and character. I was especially impressed by how delicious the soy sauce and Kinzanji miso were at dinner. When I asked about them, I learned they were from Horigawaya Nomura—a producer with over 350 years of history that still preserves traditional craftsmanship using firewood-heated iron kettles—making both their soy sauce and Kinzanji miso in that way today as well. I had originally planned to visit a different soy sauce brewery, but heavy rain made it impossible. Sometimes, the places you cannot reach end up guiding you to the story you were truly meant to find. For me, Kuroshio Sou was exactly that kind of place. The wonderful Onsen gently healed not only my body, but my mind as well. The quiet comfort throughout the building, Chef Etani’s cuisine, and the hospitality of all staff— together they quietly express this Accommodation’s philosophy in everything it does。 As a former chef from Tasmania, there is something I felt deeply: True hospitality is not just serving delicious food; it is helping guests connect with the people and culture that sustain a place。 I now have one more reason to return to Wakayama。 Thank you again from my heart.

Many of the staff are locals and have extensive knowledge about nearby facilities and the ingredients used in the cuisine, and they shared a lot with us. Of course, the Onsen was also wonderful, with fresh-flowing water. Thank you very much for taking such great care of us.

This was an Accommodation I’d wanted to visit for a long time. I was hoping for the riverside bath and a starry sky, but due to the river running high and cloudy weather, it didn’t happen. Still, the Accommodation was wonderful, so I was completely satisfied. At check-in, we were served delicious homemade sweets: hanamame beans with shiratama in kinako and kuromitsu. The proprietress and staff were very pleasant, and the hot spring bath—fed directly from the source—overflowed generously and felt amazing. The meals were beautifully presented using local ingredients, and we were happily full. The Room was clean and relaxing, with the sound of the river (it was quite loud this time because of the high water, but I’m sure it’s usually soothing). It was also lovely to see small wildflowers displayed throughout. It’s an Accommodation I’d love to stay at again and again. We will definitely return.

It’s a bit far from Tokyo, but I’m truly glad we stayed here! The property was very clean, and the lounge had plenty of drinks—my excitement started the moment we arrived. For dinner, we ordered horse sashimi and a three-sake tasting set separately, and it was amazing. Highly recommended. Breakfast was also delicious across the board. The Onsen was relaxing since it was always empty whenever we went (not just the private one), and we were also able to use the baths at a larger affiliated Hotel, which made us very satisfied. The Room was comfortable, and I slept soundly. Above all, the warm hospitality from all the staff made us feel at ease. We’ll definitely be back again. Thank you for taking such great care of us.

I stayed here for a concert trip this time. Because of the concert end time and traffic, I didn’t arrive until 9:00 PM, and I ended up getting to dinner very late, but you welcomed me with a smile and I had a wonderful time. Breakfast was also delicious, and since I had some time before checkout, I was able to take a walk in Kenrokuen Garden across the street. The location is excellent, and above all, every staff member was smiling and seemed genuinely happy—I would definitely like to stay here again the next time I visit Kanazawa. We were blessed with great weather on this trip—clear skies every day and stunning views of Mt. Daisen and the Sea of Japan from the mountain. Because this Facility comes so highly recommended, we arrived early to make the most of it. With the all-inclusive plan, we enjoyed a beer right away while soaking in the open-air bath on our Room’s balcony. The Room had a Western antique style, and everything—from the bed and furnishings to the tableware—was superb. The Italian dinner was outstanding and truly worthy of an auberge, and the house wine was exceptionally delicious. The hospitality was excellent as well; the owner personally greeted us, and we had a wonderful conversation. From around sunset, a sea of clouds began to spread out—so spectacular that even the owner said it was something rarely seen. We were able to fully enjoy both an incredible meal and breathtaking scenery.

Although the building and Room are not the newest, the staff’s thoughtful hospitality—clearly reflecting excellent training—felt genuinely warm rather than scripted. The food was also stylish and delicious, and we had a very comfortable stay.

The female staff member at reception during check-in impressed me with her proactive, exemplary hospitality. I stay at Hotels for a change of pace, and this Hotel made me feel at ease in every way—facilities, staff, and overall comfort—with no small discomforts. It was part of the Plan, but I gladly took them up on it and stayed for 24 hours. At reception, they said, “Please let us know if there is anything you need,” showing a positive attitude. At the restaurant as well: “Please relax and enjoy your stay.” They even asked, “Did you sleep well?” You don’t often hear that elsewhere. It had been a while since I stayed at a major international chain Hotel, and their training truly showed. The Room design is also charming. I can see why it’s popular with guests from both Japan and abroad.

About once every 1–2 months, when I come to Kanagawa on business, I stay here every time. The bed is spacious and very comfortable, the bathroom facilities are new and clean, and although it’s close to the station, it’s not noisy—those are the reasons I like it. I also appreciate that not everything is overly systematized. The relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere is great too. So thank you again for this stay. I’ll be back again.

I’d been wanting to visit for a long time, and I treated myself to a Multiple Night Stay solo to truly relax. I’m so glad I chose this place! I’ve stayed at many Hotels and Ryokans in Japan and abroad, and this has become one of my top three favorites. Everything used throughout the Hotel is carefully selected and meticulously maintained. The staff were warm and kind in such a natural way—it was genuinely soothing. And the food—absolutely unforgettable! I had all three meals here, and if only I had another stomach, I would have loved to try even more from the menu. There were plenty of fresh local vegetables; everything was truly delicious, beautifully presented with great taste, and above all, you could feel the chef’s love in every dish. It makes perfect sense that so many guests return again and again. It was hot in midsummer, but I rented an e-bike, rode to the beach, and went for a swim. Just as rumored, the water was crystal clear—the beach was stunning—and it left me feeling completely refreshed. I will definitely come back in another season. We stayed here for the first time with our dog to celebrate our daughter’s birthday. The welcome drink and dessert were very delicious! The welcome treat for dogs also seemed tasty—our pup finished it in no time! There’s also a drink bar available at certain times, which was great. They even have alcohol, which was the best!! The dog run was air-conditioned, so it was comfortable even in midsummer. Our dog ran around until completely tired out. Dinner is buffet-style, so it’s hard to decide what to eat (lol). The roast beef and sashimi served as a one-plate set at the table were amazing! Alcohol is available for an additional fee, but the food is so good you can’t help wanting a drink (lol). You can dine together with your dog, and there’s also a buffet just for dogs, so we really enjoyed the meal. Since it was our daughter’s birthday, we ordered a cake for an additional fee, and it was delicious as well! The staff celebrated with us too, and our daughter was thrilled! You can also use a private bath. We used it this time; we had 90 minutes, so we could relax without rushing. Dogs are allowed in the private bath too, which is wonderful! There were post-bath drinks and ice cream in the fridge—also fantastic! It’s well worth paying the extra fee! By the way, I also used the large public bath in the morning. The view was great, and it felt wonderful bathing while looking out over Lake Hamana! The breakfast sandwiches were filling and very tasty! They come with pudding too—again, amazing! One of the reasons this Hotel felt so good is definitely how pleasant all of the staff are!! Everyone we met was smiling; they talked to our dog and played with him too. Our pup got lots of love! If I had to mention something negative: although parts have been renovated, there were some areas where you could feel that the building itself is old and showing its age. But personally, there were far more positives than anything else. How easy it is to stay with your dog here, how great the staff service is, how delicious the food is, how relaxing the baths are—we went home satisfied as a whole family! I’m glad we chose this Hotel for our first overnight trip with our dog. We’d love to stay again!!

From the Shuttle Service from the parking lot to the attentive hospitality, meals, and everything in between, everything was perfect and made for a truly comfortable stay. While many places in recent years have reduced staff and their service feels lacking, this long-established Ryokan showed us the true essence of thoughtful hospitality—anticipating every need. As long as I am able, I would love to return again on my next opportunity.

My friend and I stayed for one night and two days. That morning, we joined a river kayaking tour, and since there were no changing facilities near the river, I asked if it would be okay to arrive still wearing our wet wetsuits. They kindly agreed, which I truly appreciated. We were dropped off by the tour staff, and the moment we arrived, the breathtaking view of a beautiful infinity pool under a clear blue sky spread out before us—I couldn’t help but shout, “Wow, amazing!” We were shown to seats by the poolside, and even before checking in my friend said, “Wow… I should’ve brought my laptop. Next time we have to bring our laptops and stay longer for a workcation.” We were then shown to our Room. When I tried to open my suitcase, it wouldn’t open—an unexpected mishap—but after speaking with the butler right away they prepared an adorable tracksuit that could be worn over swimwear and arranged a rental car for us. Thanks to that, we were able to get it opened at a local gas station we had found in advance. For dinner, they prepared a handmade welcome plate inspired by the kayaking experience and the sea turtle nesting observation tour we had done—it was moving from the moment we sat down. Every dish was something new to us and absolutely delicious; in particular, I loved the peach sorbet served by the pastry chef. We got so caught up in eating and chatting that we stayed late, yet the chef still came out with a smile to see us off all the way until we boarded the golf cart back to our Room. The next morning we joined a kokedama (moss ball) workshop and enjoyed making one while learning all kinds of things about plants. I’ve forgotten the plant’s name now, but when I mentioned that I like tea, they also wrapped large leaves that can be enjoyed as tea together with my kokedama. We were probably the noisiest guests during our stay as just two people, yet everyone treated us with kindness until the very end—I’m nothing but grateful. Next time, I plan to bring my laptop and come back for a longer workcation stay.

This trip was mainly to visit Ise Grand Shrine, Toba, and Futamiura. I was especially looking forward to visiting Futami Okitama Shrine and seeing the Meoto Iwa (Wedded Rocks), so I searched for the Accommodation closest to the shrine and chose “Oishiya.” From the very beginning, I was impressed by the exceptionally courteous and pleasant service. From arriving by taxi through check-in, being shown to my Room, dining, and even the Shuttle Service to the station after check-out, everything was handled in such a welcoming way that it made for a truly wonderful trip. To the proprietress, manager, attendants, Shuttle Service driver, and everyone at Oishiya, thank you very much. Dinner was a charcoal-grilled seafood kaiseki course. Starting with appetizers and sashimi, the main dishes featured an abundant selection including abalone, squid, turban shell, other shellfish, and vegetables. Being able to enjoy abalone both grilled and as sashimi made it an especially luxurious meal. The meal was so plentiful that I’m sorry I ended up leaving one dish unfinished. I also appreciate the attendant’s thoughtful consideration regarding dessert. The view of Futami’s sea from the panoramic bath was exceptional—I enjoyed it many times: before dinner, after dinner, and early in the morning. The location of this Accommodation is also perfect for accessing Futami Okitama Shrine. After check-in, after dinner, at sunrise time, and after check-out, I was able to visit a total of four times—it meant so much to me. Every view was wonderful, but the scenery at sunrise was truly unforgettable. Staying at “Oishiya” made this an outstanding trip. If I have another opportunity, I would love to stay again. Thank you very much.

I stayed for one night. The service, meals, and baths were all excellent. There was also a local festival that day, which gave me a special opportunity to experience the surrounding culture. The view from the bath overlooked the harbor and had a wonderful atmosphere, and I was happy there was also a sauna and cold plunge. I also truly appreciated the flexible Shuttle Service, which made my trip much more convenient.

The view from the Room was wonderful, and the meals were delicious—everything was excellent. If I had to mention one thing, I would have liked a little more time to use the bath at a relaxed pace. I will visit again in a different season. Thank you for your hospitality.

Thank you for the wonderful service—it made our stay truly exceptional. First, I accidentally made a Reservation with the wrong gender, but you quickly brought us yukata in different sizes, which was very helpful. With fewer guests staying, the attentive, personalized service really stood out. We also enjoyed the complimentary pudding—it was delicious. The Onsen was available at night as well, so we could relax and take our time. The bed felt a bit firm and slightly uncomfortable to sleep on, but other than that we had no complaints at all. Also, it was pouring rain at checkout, and you kindly handed us towels—this helped us so much. We truly appreciated your thoughtful attention to detail. We would love to stay here again when we visit Kusatsu.

As the property is relatively new, the building, Facility, and amenities were all new and spotless. The appliances were thoughtfully selected too—I liked them so much I wanted to use them at home, and I even bought some after returning. Since it is set a little back from the road, we were able to spend our time in peace and quiet. We also encountered wild rabbits and deer, which made it feel like a true getaway. Despite the typhoon’s impact, we still enjoyed a barbecue! Our dog seemed to have a great time as well. We would love to stay again.

Perched on a hill near Kawana Station, this Accommodation has a wonderful sense of charm. Even though it is upscale, the attendants were warm and approachable, making our stay truly comfortable. The Onsen baths are available both indoors and outdoors, and we could enjoy them at the same time; the water quality was excellent. The kaiseki dinner was outstanding—as expected of a renowned Ryokan—and we enjoyed it so much that we even had the late-night snack. The peaceful atmosphere, with occasional birdsong, was so soothing that we didn’t want to leave. We will definitely return.
