Nice to meet you—we’re Potel. Not “Hotel,” but “Potel.” Located next to the lush Umekoji Park, Kyoto Aquarium, and the Kyoto Railway Museum, we offer an exceptionally convenient base for sightseeing. In our guest-only space, “Awai no Ma,” you’ll find a curated selection of books and records chosen especially for Potel, along with board games. Plus, with a café and restaurant connected directly to the park, and in the alleys of “Umekoji Yokocho,” there are plenty of places to unwind—like a nostalgic public bathhouse and a fermentation brewery where you can enjoy standing drinks. Whether you’re staying overnight or visiting for the day, spend a relaxing moment at Umekoji Potel Kyoto.

    I was extremely satisfied with everything, including the Hotel’s cleanliness, service, and baths. Just as the Reviews said, drinks and nuts are truly available to enjoy freely. What’s more, they are high-quality drinks and nuts. Breakfast is also of excellent quality. I also thought it was wonderful that containers are provided so you can take items back to your Room; however, since there are plenty of containers available, some guests may end up using more than necessary, so it might be worth adding a small limit on how they are used. Other than that, I think it’s perfect. I will definitely stay again.

  • I discovered this pl...

    I discovered this place on YouTube and got interested, so I traveled from Osaka just to stay overnight. Since it was raining during my stay, I didn’t go out onto the terrace or up to the rooftop, but I really enjoyed the beer and wine at cocktail time starting at 3:00 PM. The next morning I also took on the “unlimited breakfast,” but I couldn’t eat an unlimited amount (lol). After checkout, I went to Umekoji Fermentation Lab, and it seems that if you’re staying at the Hotel you can drink alcohol there as well… so I’ve decided to come back for a retry. For now, I had a three-sake tasting set and then headed to the aquarium! It’s close to the Railway Museum and Kyoto Aquarium, and inside the Hotel there are table tennis, games, and more—so much like an amusement park that we had plenty of fun even in the rain. Thank you very much. I think we’ll be back again!

The wall-to-wall bookshelves are lined with a wide variety of titles selected by Atsushi Horibe, a book sommelier and the owner of Seikosha, a bookstore in Kyoto. Enjoy discovering books you wouldn’t normally pick up and getting so absorbed in reading that you lose track of time.

A curated selection of board games to suit your stay at Potel. From children to adults, and sometimes even across language barriers, enjoy fun moments playing with new friends and losing track of time.

The record shelves lined with countless album covers may feel nostalgic to some listeners, yet fresh and new to others. Why not choose a track, and lose yourself in the sound, the lyrics behind the song, and memories from that time? We offer a selection of records curated for each season.

A “PoMap,” themed “Guiding you to an unseen Kyoto” and created as a spin-off of Po Magazine under the supervision of Kyoto-based editor bank to, is available at the front desk. “PoMap, made with you” includes a space where guests can share recommended spots with one another.

2F: We offer soft drinks, beer, wine, highballs, chuhai, and light snacks. 3F: Enjoy hand-drip coffee made with carefully selected beans supervised by Hiroshi Makino of Coffeebase—ground fresh on site.
