From the Three Mountains of Dewa to the Shonai Plain, and onward to the Sea of Japan. The Shonai region of Yamagata Prefecture is a land blessed with abundant natural beauty. Inspired by the rice fields that symbolize this landscape, SUIDEN TERRASSE was born. Designed by world-renowned architect Shigeru Ban, the Hotel features a design that allows you to feel the presence of the rice fields wherever you are. It appears to float on the rice paddies, blending seamlessly with the surrounding mountain ranges and rural scenery. Inside the Facility, you will find a restaurant/bar, shop, library, natural Onsen, fitness Facility, and more, offering a variety of ways to enjoy your stay. Spend your time in a simple, cozy space that embraces the warmth of wood, and experience the tranquility of a life in harmony with nature.

  • The meals are delicious.

    This was my second visit. Last time I came in winter, so there were no rice plants and the paddies were muddy. I wanted to return during the lush green season.Bathing and dining while looking out over the rice fields and the distant mountains was truly refreshing.Both dinner and breakfast featured plenty of local ingredients, and everything was delicious. I will definitely visit again.

  • A breathtaking view of rice ears swaying in the breeze, paired with meals that make the most of fresh local ingredients.

    The view from the Room was outstanding. A breathtaking panorama of lush green rice fields spread out beyond the window. Moonlight enjoyed from the soothing open-air bath, and the pairing of Yamagata ingredients with wine was exceptional. From amuse-bouche to dessert, everything was deeply satisfying.After breakfast, we took a walk around the rice paddies and breathed in deeply as the breeze swept through the countryside. It was truly healing for both body and mind. Next time, I’d love to come back to see the golden fields.

About 5 minutes by car from Tsuruoka Station and about 20 minutes by car from Shonai Airport. A free outdoor parking lot with space for 150 cars is available directly across the road from the Hotel.
From Shonai Airport, take the access bus bound for Tsuruoka Station and get off at the “Science Park” bus stop. The Hotel is right in front of the stop.
