A lakeside resort on the shores of Lake Ashi in Hakone, where you can enjoy a blissful stay in a building designed by Togo Murano.

The concept is “Relaxation & Nature.” In spring, delicate cherry blossoms softly veil the mountains in a poetic haze; in early summer, a fresh green breeze sweeps across the sparkling lake; and in autumn, the mountains are beautifully dyed in fiery reds and golds. Nestled quietly on the shores of Lake Ashi in scenic Hakone through all four seasons, The Prince Hakone Lake Ashinoko offers a comfortable resort stay. Enjoy a relaxing resort experience to your heart’s content with Onsen at Takogawa Onsen “Hakone Kohan no Yu,” the “Hakone Prince Shopping Plaza” featuring popular fashion brands, and a variety of Facilities tailored to your group size and purpose.

  • Now in my 40s and with my parents in their 70s, I stayed here for a special parent-and-child trip. Unfortunately, it rained, but in the end we had an extremely satisfying stay. The sense of history, the tasteful architecture and furnishings, the staff’s hospitality, the wonderful meals (we dined at Le Trianon for both dinner and breakfast), and the cleanliness of the large public bath—plus the stunning view from the open-air bath—were all outstanding. My parents were truly delighted as well. In particular, Le Trianon’s breakfast course was the best we have ever had on any trip! Each dish—from the egg dishes to the smoothies—was carefully explained to us, making it a memorable experience (I was especially impressed that they used eggs from my hometown).Recently I stayed at newer luxury hotels in Karuizawa and Atami in a similar price range to this Hotel, but this historic Hotel clearly stands apart in terms of service and atmosphere. I hope to return with my family someday. Thank you very much.

  • We stayed here for a birthday. The fridge was stocked with plenty of drinks, along with snacks and chocolate—it made us very happy. When we arrived and checked in at the front desk, the staff’s explanation of the facilities was very easy to understand. The building felt unnecessarily large, and it was like a maze for us. That was the only downside—everything else was a very satisfying stay. Thank you very much.

Room

The organically shaped balconies, designed by Togo Murano and extending outward in a radial form from each Room, offer a different view from every Room. The top-floor suite Rooms—only two in the entire building—are a truly special scenic spot. Right before you, Lake Ashi and Hakone’s fresh greenery spread out, and on clear days you can even see Mt. Fuji. Waking up to a picture-perfect view is another elegant moment to add to your journey.

The Prince Hakone Lake Ashinoko – Main Building
The Main Building of The Prince Hakone Lake Ashinoko, designed by architectural master Togo Murano.

■Overlooking Lake Ashi, this property is located within Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. To preserve the natural environment, many regulations were imposed during construction. The two Accommodation wings, divided into east and west, are circular in form and fit seamlessly among the trees. Designed to let architecture and nature coexist with an almost imperceptible boundary, the buildings appear as if they are growing from the earth. ■Rooms are arranged along the circle, and the view varies by location. From Rooms facing the lakeshore, enjoy views of Mt. Fuji and Lake Ashi; from garden-side Rooms, take in Hakone’s natural scenery... In every season, a variety of landscapes awaits. ■Step out into the Hotel courtyard to find Lake Ashi spreading out before you. On clear days, Mt. Fuji comes into view. In spring, cherry blossoms dance in the air; in summer, sway gently in a hammock as evening cools settles in. Autumn brings mountains tinted red and gold, while winter offers crisp, crystal-clear air. As each season layers onto an unchanging presence, a one-of-a-kind escape is created.

Lobby

The lobby is filled with thoughtful details throughout.

■The lobby’s soft, welcoming atmosphere is shaped by thoughtfully crafted details—such as the smooth silhouette of the “Swan” chair, an acrylic display case, and a ceiling inlaid with the iridescent inner layer of Akoya pearl oyster shells. ■A striking curved “spiral staircase” connects the first floor and the lobby. The handrail—designed with the idea that “just touching it brings a sense of comfort”—is also made up of gentle curves and rounded edges. (Left photo) ■Overhead in the lobby, you’ll find graceful curves that highlight cherry wood, with cherry blossom motifs applied to the ceiling as well. (Center photo) ■Chairs designed exclusively for The Prince Hakone Lake Ashinoko blend seamlessly into the lobby scenery. (Right photo)
