We visited for the meals and the Onsen. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. The French toast at breakfast was especially outstanding! The Cold Stone ice cream was also very tasty. Since we went on a weekday, there were many older guests, and the Hotel was very quiet. The Hotel staff were kind, and we had a very comfortable stay. They also had board games, so we’d like to come again with our family. Thank you very much.

It had been since last autumn, but this is an Accommodation that soothes me no matter when I visit. Of course, the Room and the Onsen are wonderful, as are the meals—modern French with witty, thought-provoking menus each time, and a Japanese breakfast made with carefully selected ingredients—but even more than that, I’m always delighted by the staff’s quiet attentiveness everywhere, including turndown service during both dinner and breakfast. I go outside the rear entrance to smoke each time, and there was a small bench that hadn’t been there before. Near the exit were several mats you can use on the bench. I was moved by these little touches and found myself even more captivated by Kokon. I’m already looking forward to deciding when to visit next.

I stayed here with a friend this March and was so impressed that I returned in July with my family (as a couple). The dining menu had changed to a summer menu, so we were able to enjoy it again with a fresh perspective. With only eight parties staying at a time, this is a hidden-gem Accommodation: the Rooms are spacious, yet limited to two adults per Room. It’s perfect for anyone who wants to relax and unwind in peace. On the other hand, you won’t find sweeping views of Sagami Bay like those from the balcony of a high-rise Hotel (you can see the sea and Oshima Island, but they feel distant), nor is there an expansive garden. There is also no Shuttle Service from the station, so I recommend it for guests who don’t mind that. It’s well suited for making memories as a couple or with your best friend, and for celebrating anniversaries or special occasions. The in-Room open-air bath is spacious, and after bathing you can relax on chairs on the balcony. The food is delicious and very generous in portion size—and the timing of each course being served is excellent. The bedding was comfortable and I slept soundly. Considering this level of quality and service, the Plan pricing is reasonable. I would definitely like to return again.

I stayed here for the first time in decades, bringing my parents along. The draft beer welcome drink was perfect after arriving in the heat and helped us relax right away. Our Room was spacious, bright, and very comfortable, and the pleasant music playing when we entered made us feel truly welcomed. We were able to enjoy both Onsen baths at a leisurely pace without running into many other guests. The Onsen on the lower floor in particular had excellent water quality, and the ice cream after bathing was delicious. Both dinner and breakfast featured many local ingredients, and everything—vegetables, seafood, and meat—was wonderful. I was especially impressed by the shelled gazami uni (sea urchin), which is hard to find in the Kanto area. Before dinner, we were also shown around the wooden dining building; it was outstanding, and I hope it will be carefully preserved for years to come. After dinner we had drinks at the bar, where the calm atmosphere made it easy to unwind. From check-in to being driven back to the station on departure day, everyone—including the proprietress and all staff—was courteous with just the right sense of distance. It was a truly satisfying stay, and I would love to return.

The location was excellent, and the views of Sanshiro Island and Suruga Bay from the Room, the bath, and the lobby were amazing. There were complimentary drinks and tokoroten available in the free lobby, and the private family bath was open—everything could be used without a Reservation. The night view from the rooftop was also wonderful, and we enjoyed it like a vacation home. The staff service was outstanding as well. We would love to stay again.

From the welcoming staff to the front desk team, Room guidance, and dining staff, everyone was courteous and made us feel truly comfortable. The Room was clean, and both the indoor bath and open-air bath were very relaxing. Each dish was beautifully prepared—from seasoning to presentation—and everything was delicious. Thank you for giving us such a soothing time on this trip with friends. Next time, we would love to visit again with our family.

Blessed with fine weather and feeling well, my spouse and I were thoroughly satisfied with the beautifully crafted French dishes, each like a work of art. The location was excellent, and we fully enjoyed watching Mt. Fuji change color moment by moment through the window. The Ikeda 20th Century Museum of Art is also nearby, making it a wonderful day.

First of all, the meals were outstanding. I’ve had enohara fish before, but this was the most delicious I’ve ever tasted! They paid close attention to how we were doing during the meal, and the timing of each next dish was perfect. Everyone on the staff greeted us with smiles throughout our stay, which made us feel very comfortable. Thank you very much. We’d love to visit again in a different season.

We stayed here as a couple during the Obon holidays. Even though it was the hottest time of midsummer, Tenkawa Village was wonderfully cool—a top summer retreat in Kansai where we could stay comfortable without using the Room air conditioner and without breaking a sweat. We had long admired the charm of Dorogawa Onsen and had wanted to stay there at least once, and choosing Hanaya Tokubei was absolutely the right decision. The whole town has a lovely atmosphere, but Tokubei stands out for its especially distinctive and tasteful building. Because there are few guest Rooms with private indoor baths in the area, we stayed in “Higashi no Tenku” with an indoor bath. The view is mostly of the courtyard, so if you are used to resort-style Onsen facilities it may not exceed expectations. Still, considering this is traditionally an Accommodation used by ascetics, we felt it was a true luxury and enjoyed it. The meals were delicious Japanese cuisine featuring plenty of local ingredients, with thoughtful touches throughout that kept our Multiple Night Stay from ever feeling repetitive. We were completely full but couldn’t bear to leave anything behind—and finished every last bite. Spending time on the veranda at dusk with a beer in hand while watching people pass by was simply wonderful. After sunset, strolling around the area in yukata is also great fun. Wherever you walk, the lantern lights feel magical, and Tokubei lends out portable lanterns as well. It was like stepping back into a period drama. There were also foreign staff members, and they were genuinely kind and attentive—we truly appreciated it. This is an Accommodation we would love to visit again. Highly recommended if you are sightseeing in Dorogawa Onsen.

I’d been looking forward to our stay and couldn’t wait after checking the website and YouTube beforehand. On the day, the owner couple welcomed us with warm smiles. In a cute, spotless Room, we enjoyed delicious homemade cookies, and I had a great time chatting with my son. Dinner and breakfast were just as described in the Review—fresh, tasty, and very satisfying. Our time with the cats was short, but we were truly happy. We were delighted to meet the kind owner and his wonderful wife with her lovely smile, as well as Candy, Myu, Yuki, and Haku. Sorry to our cat at home, but we’ll be back again. Thank you in advance.

We visited this Accommodation for the first time in March after it received the strongest “Absolutely!” recommendation among several options, and it was the first time in a while that we felt completely satisfied in every respect. From the courteous and accurate communication during the Reservation process, to the atmosphere, use of space, staff professionalism, and cuisine—everything met our expectations. With an Accommodation of this caliber, I wasn’t particularly worried about the food, and I had already seen photos of the interior on the website so I assumed there would be no surprises. In the end, however, what matters most is “people.” With group stays, requests often cause inconvenience and there are usually one or two small oversights on the day—but here everything was perfect. This time we came as individuals. We returned both to confirm our impressions and to be moved all over again. The entrance—still fresh in my memory as a favorite—is spacious and quiet. It harmoniously blends cutting-edge design with traditional charm despite being complete opposites. Personally, it may be my favorite part. Our Room this time was more compact than last time but more than sufficient for one night. The open-air bath is also spacious and easy to use even though it has privacy screening. The private dining room felt almost too large for just two people. The timing of each course and the staff’s warm smiles made for a truly comfortable—and delicious—meal. Overall, what stayed with me is how rare this Facility is: an excellent balance of new and old, genuine warmth from people, and employees who approach their work with sincerity—all coming together in perfect harmony. Newer Accommodations with a full resort feel are wonderful in their own way as well; however, as an Onsen Accommodation, this is a place I can confidently recommend as a distinctly Japanese stay where timeless tradition is beautifully integrated. I had a wonderfully relaxing stay at a comfortable pace. It was quiet and spotless throughout, and the Onsen was incredibly open and wonderful. Every meal was deeply delicious. The staff were also very pleasant and welcoming. I feel as if both my body and mind have been refreshed. I can hardly believe how reasonably priced it is. Thank you very much. Traveling solo as a woman, I wanted an Accommodation where I could spend time quietly and enjoy delicious meals, so I stayed here this time—and it was absolutely the right choice. Each dish was prepared with such care, and I ate in amazement at how delicious everything was. The tuna eaten with egg-yolk soy sauce and the gently sweet Glacier Rice were especially memorable; every dish stayed with me, and whenever I think back, I find myself wanting to eat them again. The proprietress was also very kind, and thanks to her thoughtful attention to detail, I was able to relax in comfort and feel completely at ease during my quiet stay. The Room has large windows, and the view of lush greenery is truly soothing. It rained throughout my stay so the weather wasn’t on my side, but the slightly dim atmosphere of the Room felt calm in its own way. Sitting by a slightly open window, listening to the rain while looking outside felt like it brought my mind back into balance. As this Accommodation hosts only five groups per day, the atmosphere inside was very peaceful. The weather made it especially quiet this time, but I really appreciated being able to enjoy the Onsen and time in my Room without worrying about others around me. With a typhoon and earthquakes occurring close together there were moments that made me uneasy, but both the proprietress and the chef checked on me with such genuine care that I could stay relaxed until the very end. The food, the Room, and everyone’s character were all wonderful—this was a warm Accommodation where even a solo traveler can truly unwind. They showed such kindness right up until departure; it became an unforgettable trip. I’m so glad I decided to go. I would love to visit again.

We stayed here to celebrate my partner’s birthday. The property was very clean, and there were so many thoughtful touches to enjoy—like the complimentary drinks corner, a small selection of toys, plenty of large public baths, and even handheld fireworks—that we couldn’t experience everything in just one day! Above all, the staff’s attentiveness was outstanding. They helped serve the birthday cake and presents, provided candles and a brazier for the fireworks, and adjusted the lighting to create a lovely atmosphere—we truly felt their care. My partner was very happy as well. We’d love to stay again!

Thank you for taking care of us for two nights and three days. I have stayed in many places around Japan, but this is the first time I’ve written a Review. It was a wonderful stay, and although I didn’t have time to properly express my thanks in person, I’d like to do so here. Work has been very busy lately, and this time I came hoping to “just relax,” and this Accommodation was exactly what I was looking for. From our Room we could look out over the sea at Matsushima, and without having to leave the Accommodation much at all, we were able to spend slow, luxurious time simply gazing at the ocean. The cheerful and courteous service from the staff in charge of our Room left a strong impression on me, and thanks to them we felt comfortable throughout our stay. At the dining venue as well, they casually checked in with us—“Are you cold?”—and even someone like me who gets cold easily was able to relax comfortably. The tea sweets provided were delicious, and the bath was extremely soothing. After bathing, it’s also a fond memory that I could unwind by reading while enjoying cold tea at “Salon Kura.” Every meal was truly delicious. In particular, the anago (conger eel) takikomi rice really stayed with me. We were told that any leftovers could be made into rice balls, but it was so easy to eat that we kept reaching for more with our chopsticks and finished it all. My partner seems especially impressed by the Sendai Kuroge Wagyu steak. Being able to grill sasa-kamaboko at breakfast also made me happy—it felt uniquely Miyagi. Even when we were leaving, you prepared sightseeing maps and gourmet information for us as well, and we felt your warm thoughtfulness right until the end. It was a truly lovely Accommodation where you can take your time enjoying both Matsushima’s scenery and how comfortable everything feels on-site. It ended up being a stay that refreshed both body and mind. We would love to visit again. Thank you very much for everything during our stay.

We were blessed with great weather this time, and the view from the in-room semi-open-air bath was wonderful. The Onsen may feel a little lukewarm, but it keeps you warm for a long time. We heard the meals had just been updated with new offerings, and everything was delicious. With all amenities provided, this Accommodation is truly appreciated for allowing us to visit lightly and casually. We would love to return again in different seasons. It was a spacious Western-style room with a modern Japanese touch. Since it’s not a large Accommodation, there were few guests and the atmosphere was very calm. Not only was the overall meal excellent, but the salt-grilled ayu was tender and delicious right down to the bones—we were completely satisfied! All of the staff were kind, and we felt Fukui’s warm hospitality. It was reasonably priced, and with the “Fukui Prefecture Accommodation Campaign,” we were able to stay at an even better value.
