    The Best Vacation

I traveled to Tottori to see a friend from junior high school, and stayed at Hakusen, which my friend recommended. The meals and the hospitality were extremely satisfying, but I felt embarrassed because the bath was clearly visible from outside. The curtain only closed about one-third, and while you could say no one was really watching, I ended up making eye contact more than once. Other than that, it was great.

    The dinner service was disappointing.

At dinner, some members who didn’t order drinks were not served water, and there was no rice paddle for serving rice, so it was hard to focus on the meal. The anniversary plate we requested at the end also didn’t feel worth the price. Since it was a special occasion, we wished we had stayed at another nearby Ryokan instead. Overall, it didn’t live up to the Reviews—did management change? The in-room bath wasn’t very clean either. There were many brown marks inside the bathtub that looked like stains or scratches.

    The spacious Room was comfortable.

The Room was spacious, and we were able to relax comfortably. The meals were the right portion size and very delicious. Each dish was carefully prepared, with refined flavors. The eel kamameshi at dinner was especially tasty. One disappointment was that the large public bath and the open-air bath were far apart, so I couldn’t make it to the open-air bath. I appreciated being able to enjoy coffee and tea freely in the lobby. I would like to stay again.

    Very affordable

I stayed here on a solo trip. There were a few minor things about the Facility that caught my attention, but with Hotel prices rising these days, I was impressed to be able to stay for about the same price as a city Hotel with No Meals Included—while still having both dinner and breakfast included (though it may be different during beach season). Using a smartphone for check-in/out and ordering drinks at the restaurant felt a bit excessive given the size of the Ryokan (and might even add extra effort for guests). Still, this is likely a system many Ryokan will adopt over time, so I think it’s great that you’re taking an advanced approach—and that it’s running smoothly without major issues. I’d love to visit again when I have the chance.

An Accommodation with Memorable Cuisine and Scenic Views

We stayed at Yukibo Hakusen. To be honest, there were a few things that concerned us about the exterior and the surrounding area. Since a love hotel was visible near the parking lot, we were a bit surprised upon arrival. On the other hand, all of the staff were very kind and greeted us with warm smiles and attentive service, which made our stay very comfortable. The young international staff also worked hard serving meals; their Japanese was excellent and they left a great impression. We had been slightly worried after reading some Reviews in advance, but the meal portions were just right. The flavors were pleasantly light overall and easy to enjoy, and everything was delicious. What we liked most was the location from the open-air bath in our Room. The view was wonderful, and it was truly relaxing. A couple of points to note: since three of us stayed, one person slept on a futon, but it felt a bit simple. Also, there was no changing space by the open-air bath, which made getting changed slightly inconvenient. On departure we received an Inaba no Shirousagi souvenir gift, which made us very happy. While there were some minor concerns, this Accommodation left us with strong impressions thanks to the staff’s warm hospitality, the food, and the view from our Room.

We stayed here as a family during Golden Week.

We stayed here as a family during the Golden Week holidays. The operations were well organized, and we had a stress-free stay. Overall, the quality was high and everything felt very clean. The meals were delicious, though they could perhaps use a bit more creativity. That said, considering the price, it still offers excellent value. We were told there is a sandy beach right in front where you can swim, so we’d like to come back in summer.

    Highly recommended Accommodation.

The experienced female staff member who served us at dinner and breakfast was truly wonderful, and her service was very courteous. She had a name tag on her obi, but I couldn’t see her name—thank you very much. The Room and the in-room jacuzzi were great, but it was a bit inconvenient that the large public bath and the open-air bath were separated; that was the only disappointing point.

    24-hour drink bar

24-hour drink bar I used the coffee service early in the morning, but the lights were off and it was almost dark, so I had to feel my way around. I would have appreciated it if at least some of the lights had been turned on.

    A great-value Hotel that’s easy to visit.

Following my stay last November, I visited again in March to celebrate my birthday. I gave a very high rating last time, and this stay was just as wonderful as expected—an excellent one-night stay. The weather was beautiful that day, and Mt. Daisen with its remaining snow looked stunning. They have clearly made thoughtful efforts to keep costs down, and despite the very reasonable price, the Room was clean, the Onsen was great, and the food was delicious—overall a truly satisfying Hotel. I would definitely like to stay again during the autumn foliage season.

It turned out to be a disappointing trip.

This year, I heard on the news that snow crab was being caught in abundance, so I invited some friends and came to enjoy delicious winter crab from the Sea of Japan. While looking at photos of the Accommodation’s crab kaiseki on the plane, we were saying how we were most looking forward to the crab miso from boiled crab, and as soon as we arrived by taxi we went straight to the dining area. I was very disappointed and felt like our precious time had been wasted. In this day and age, I hope both the Accommodation and the travel booking site will stop doing things like this. The Room itself is old, but the view was outstanding. My friends also said they felt soothed by gazing absentmindedly at the sea from the jacuzzi.

    The food was disappointing.

This was our second Reservation because the food was great last time. The rooms had been renovated, so we came with high expectations and were looking forward to the meals. We stayed for two nights, but the food was either too bland or too salty, and I can’t say it was delicious. Replacement towels were left on the floor in a plastic bag in front of our door, and when I picked it up, the contents slipped out. At the very least, they should be placed in a laundry-style bag and hung on the doorknob—leaving them on the floor is unhygienic. The bag also contained tea and snacks (probably because of our Multiple Night Stay). We were told there would be an additional charge for bed making, but I have stayed at many accommodations and hotels, and this was the first time I’ve ever been told that. Seeing those towels left on the floor made it even more disappointing. The meal explanations from foreign staff were hard to understand; if they are just reading what is written on the menu, no explanation is necessary. Service was slow—they didn’t come right away, didn’t serve rice properly, and said they couldn’t come because they were busy. It didn’t seem that busy. We ended up serving ourselves since it was mixed rice anyway. When asked what we liked best, nothing stood out or left an impression. Disappointing overall.

    It was very comfortable!

This was my second stay, and once again I chose a Room with an open-air bath. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t great, but I was still able to relax and enjoy the hot water at a leisurely pace. Not only are the views of the Sea of Japan from the Room and the sound of the waves wonderful, but the staff’s attentive yet unobtrusive service—during check-in/out and at meals—made everything very comfortable. The breakfast and dinner also incorporate local ingredients in creative ways, which I look forward to every time. I’d love to stay again in a different season.

    Thank you for your support.

To everyone at Hakusen, Thank you very much for your help the other day. To be frank… wonderful and warm—those are the only words I need. Even though our flight arrived late due to bad weather, you responded flexibly. I was also impressed by how you guided a staff member on their first day on the job, while politely informing guests—your attentive care felt almost like that of a parent. At check-out as well, your staff kept clearing snow and guiding cars in the cold. It was truly excellent. There were a few areas showing wear due to the building’s age, but I feel your staff more than made up for it. Because of my work and hobbies, I often stay at a Ryokan, and this was the best Accommodation I’ve had in recent years. I’m really glad we chose Hakusen! We hope to return again soon for a relaxing stay…

    The entire facility ...

The entire facility is mostly covered with tatami mats, which was greatly appreciated as it allowed me to spend time without using slippers, especially with my concerns about my legs. Check-in at the front desk was simple, and holding a welcome drink in hand while enjoying the view of the Sea of Japan from the spacious lobby was something I could do for hours. The meals were delicious, and the staff's attentiveness was excellent. I would definitely like to stay here again. One concern: The floor (was it tiles?) of the jacuzzi bath in the Room felt slippery and lacked handrails, which made me a bit uneasy. Thank you for your hospitality!

Just one step away from perfection!

I stayed here with my parents for the first time during our trip back home. First of all, thank you for the wonderful hospitality. My elderly parents were very pleased. Based on my experience as a local, I would like to share some points that could help this ryokan continue to be a preferred accommodation for many tourists in the future. ■ Free Drinks at the Lobby Lounge The coffee was honestly not very impressive. Even though it is complimentary, it is one of the first services guests receive upon arrival, so I hope this can be improved. Additionally, offering options like café latte or locally sourced milk such as Shirabara Milk would especially delight families traveling from afar. ■ Amenities in the Large Public Bath I felt there was a slight lack of variety in cosmetics provided, which made it feel a bit underwhelming. Even just adding slightly higher-quality products could leave a better impression. Also, more accommodations nowadays provide water dispensers or ice pops in their changing rooms; I hope to see similar additions here in the future. ■ Air Conditioning There were moments when I felt cold (especially during meals). A little more attention to temperature control would be appreciated. Although I've mentioned several points above, there were hardly any other noticeable flaws overall. Compared to so-called "luxury ryokans" in other prefectures, this place holds up remarkably well. I look forward to visiting again!

The meals were satisfying, with an abundance of crab to enjoy. Breakfast was also delicious, featuring local ingredients such as rice and clam miso soup. However, the outdoor bath felt small and insufficient since the indoor cypress bath was under maintenance. It would be better if both the indoor and outdoor baths were more spacious and divided by gender rather than just separating large baths from open-air ones. The service was simplified with fewer interactions, but it left a positive impression as it was pleasant and comfortable. I would love to visit again if the bathing facilities are improved.

I wanted a larger instruction guide for the Room (there was a smaller one, but the small text was hard to read). I would prefer pants-style loungewear and slippers for walking around inside. Walking barefoot or in socks feels uncomfortable. Overall, I am satisfied.

    The crab was delicious!

Reservation with the Crab Kaiseki Plan. The room was a newly renovated 60-square-meter space with a stunning ocean view right in front, very spacious and relaxing. The jacuzzi also offered an ocean view, which was incredibly pleasant. The meals were delicious and enjoyable. At the dining venue, all the staff had wonderful smiles, making it a pleasant experience to dine there. My wife mentioned that the venue felt slightly cold, causing the dishes to cool quickly. Here are my honest impressions: ① A modern trend perhaps—completing everything via smartphone through smart services. While convenient for some, as someone with more traditional preferences, I found the lack of a front desk made the lobby feel lifeless and somewhat bland. I understand this might be due to cost-saving measures like reducing labor expenses. ② When I wanted an extra pillow for sleeping and opened the closet where futons were stored, I found unfolded futons and pillows messily piled up inside. It looked untidy and unclean, so I decided not to use that pillow after all—quite disappointing. ③ In the open-air bath area, there was a cleaning hose left conspicuously on one of the rocks—it ruined part of my experience. Please store such items out of sight (I moved it out of sight myself). Also, I felt that lighting in the changing area was slightly dim. ④ During checkout payment processing, we were overcharged for drinks from dinner (charges from another group nearby had been added to ours). If we hadn’t noticed during smartphone payment confirmation at that moment ourselves, we would have paid extra unknowingly! Despite calling multiple times from our room to inform them about this issue without success—I had no choice but to go down personally—they corrected it upon being informed directly downstairs along with offering an apology; however—as someone working within service industries myself—the apology seemed somewhat insincere or lighthearted considering how significant overcharging customers can be regarded within hospitality standards overall… Ideally speaking: greater heartfelt sincerity should’ve been shown here instead perhaps? Having stayed across various Hotels & Ryokans before now—I wouldn’t classify this Ryokan poorly per se—it’s average overall comparatively speaking though! That said: Staff members’ warm smiles genuinely stood-out positively throughout nonetheless!

A very affordable and excellent accommodation

I stayed here during the autumn foliage season in Daisen. I had stayed about 7 years ago and remembered the fully tatami-matted spaces leaving a strong impression. This time, I chose to stay again as the price was very reasonable. It turned out to be an excellent Hotel overall. Efforts to reduce costs were evident, but all essential aspects were well-maintained, providing a highly satisfying experience. The large public bath and open-air bath were great, but the private open-air bath attached to the Room was absolutely fantastic. Dinner wasn’t overly elaborate, but being close to Sakaiminato meant fresh seafood and delicious meat dishes that exceeded expectations. The Room facing the Sea of Japan was impeccably clean and provided a truly relaxing atmosphere. I would definitely like to stay here again on my next trip to San’in!

    I had a comfortable stay.

I booked this accommodation because I love Japanese-style rooms and private open-air baths. At night, I enjoyed the rough waves of the Sea of Japan, and in the morning, I soaked in the open-air bath while admiring the blue sky, sea, and Mount Daisen—it was a blissful day. The meal portions were just right and satisfying. Thank you for your thoughtful hospitality.

    It was a comfortable accommodation.

I felt very relaxed. The room was bright, and the facilities were clean, beautiful, and easy to use. The meals were well-portioned and delicious, and the smiles and attentive service of the staff showed their dedication, which I found truly wonderful. Privacy was well-maintained, and the check-in/out system was quick and simple, allowing for smooth transitions without any waiting. In front of the accommodation is the Sea of Japan, offering a luxurious experience at a resort hotel with a private beach filled with Japanese charm. The sound of waves was not noisy but rather soothing as healing sounds if you paid attention to it. It has become an accommodation I would love to visit again.

    Well-balanced cost performance

The exterior shows its age, but many parts of the interior have been renovated and are clean. Perhaps because it was early autumn, enjoying the sea breeze in the open-air bath in the room after dinner was incredibly pleasant. On the other hand, there was a slightly questionable experience during dinner. Specifically, while I stepped away to use the restroom after ordering a drink, a young staff member seemed to have lit all the fires for dishes like hot pots and grilled items. By the time I got back and progressed through my meal, everything had gone cold. There were also no explanations about which sauces paired with which dishes, leaving me unsure (it felt like a missed opportunity not to convey what the chef intended). However, when I explained this situation to another female staff member, she kindly reheated and served them again. The food itself wasn’t particularly avant-garde but showcased excellent ingredients and combinations that made it delicious. Overall, while it’s unclear whether this accommodation aims for a luxury or casual direction as its main focus—this ambiguity might actually contribute to its good cost performance—I personally found my stay satisfying. If staying here again, I would definitely recommend choosing a room with an open-air bath.

    Family Trip

We stayed in two rooms with six people, including my son and his spouse. The rooms were spacious, and the food was delicious. However, it was a bit disappointing that some of the warm dishes were slightly lukewarm. The taste was truly excellent, and the service was great, so that was the only downside. There is a beach right in front of the property, and we enjoyed watching mini fireworks from the open-air bath at night—it was wonderful!
