    Dinner at Green Terrace

    Dinner at GreenTerrace offered a variety of options, which was nice, but there were too many issues. 1. Empty plates were not cleared from the table. Even when I took them to what seemed like the collection area myself, no one noticed or responded until much later. Other guests also ended up taking their own empty plates to the collection area. 2. I ordered beer, but it was mistakenly placed on the neighboring table. The mistake was only discovered when someone at that table pointed it out. The receipt brought with the beer included my room number and full name, which felt like a breach of privacy. Additionally, placing beer on a table with children present is concerning—what if they had accidentally consumed it? When leaving, I handed over the receipt for room billing but wasn’t asked for a signature, which made me question whether everything would be handled correctly. If the neighboring table hadn’t reported the mistake and drank it instead, I might have been charged for something I didn’t consume without realizing until checkout due to lack of verification. I mentioned my concerns about misplacing receipts with personal information at checkout but felt that this issue wasn’t taken seriously. While there were other concerns beyond these incidents at GreenTerrace, it's disappointing because the Onsen experience itself was excellent. I've stayed in Onsen accommodations in other prefectures as well and found this experience unique in its own way—for better or worse depending on one's perspective!

    The hot spring quality was excellent.

    The facility is old. The buffet features local ingredients from Hokkaido, but the only notable one was the potatoes. I expected all-you-can-eat crab, but the crabs were quite thin. The quality of the hot spring in the large public bath was impressive, as expected from Noboribetsu. However, the response from a female staff member at the front desk was less than satisfactory. There was a miscommunication about restaurant changes, and when I simply wanted to confirm charges, she hastily responded with "Because you agreed to it," which was surprising.

    We enjoyed Jigokudani, the hot springs, and the meals.

    A shuttle bus from Sapporo was available for 1,000 yen, which I used. The surrounding area offers enjoyable walking courses, including Jigokudani (Hell Valley), Sanzu River, and natural foot baths, which can be explored in about 60–90 minutes. The building is old but clean, and the staff are kind. The Room was spacious with no major complaints; however, I did notice a small scratch on the sink that looked like leftover shaving marks, which slightly bothered me. The baths feature two types of hot springs: acidic iron spring and sulfur spring. The outdoor bath was as pleasant as its reputation suggests. In particular, the bath on B2 has a greenish hue and a large design that makes you want to soak in it repeatedly. Meals were delicious with both Japanese and Western options available.

    The Onsen and dinner were excellent.

    I have visited multiple times, and while the previous dinner left a disappointing impression, this time the menu was diverse and extremely delicious. Of course, the Onsen was fantastic. However, at 7 AM, the breakfast venue was crowded with school trip students and group guests, and the menu was quite ordinary. Compared to the excellent dinner, breakfast was disappointing.

    The Onsen and meals were excellent!

    There are various Onsen options to enjoy. The spacious area allowed for a relaxing experience. Although the dining area was crowded in the evening, we were guided to a calm and comfortable seat where we could enjoy our meal at ease. However, the Facility was somewhat disappointing. While there are several elevators, they take time and seem old with signs of wear and tear. The Room also showed signs of insufficient maintenance, such as large stains on the tatami mats, which left a disappointing first impression upon entering.

    Onsen and meals were absolutely excellent.

    I stayed in a suite room, and although the price was high, it was worth the satisfaction. The private bath in the room is a sulfur hot spring, so I could enjoy it anytime without worrying about crowded baths. I was very satisfied. I’d love to come back as a reward after working hard again.

    The meals and bath were excellent.

    The quality and variety of the food were excellent, and our entire family was very satisfied. The baths had plenty of options, were spacious, and allowed us to relax comfortably. We would love to use this place again.

    Worst Japanese-Style Twin Room

    This stay at Mahoroba was disappointing. The narrow Japanese-style twin bed room made it difficult to move around, and there was no space to sit and relax except on the bed. The cost was 21,000 yen per person x 2 = 42,000 yen. While the meals were delicious, I was shocked by the poor service at the Hotel. Despite having already completed payment, I was chased to the parking lot and asked if I had paid the Hot Spring Tax. I had already paid 600 yen—this is unacceptable behavior. Another frustrating issue was that the toilet's shower function was broken; after reporting it to reception, I had to go from the 10th floor down to the first floor just to use a restroom—this was extremely inconvenient. Lastly, what disappointed me most of all is that our Room felt outdated with windows reminiscent of early Showa-era design and dirty glass panes that opened outward. This is supposed to be Noboribetsu's top Hotel? Unbelievable!

    Meals are served at Green Terrace, and the bath is located on B2.

    I love Hokkaido and visit 3 to 4 times a year. This was my third time visiting Noboribetsu Onsen, but my first stay at Mahoroba. While other hotels offer day-use bathing, Mahoroba does not, so I decided to book a Multiple Night Stay with my spouse to experience their renowned large baths. To compare meals, we chose Green Terrace for the first night and Liberty for the second night. In conclusion, I recommend Green Terrace even if it’s slightly more expensive. Not only are the menu and variety better, but also the crowd levels and atmosphere were more satisfying at Green Terrace (better cost-performance as well). For example, soft drinks are included at Green Terrace but require an additional charge at Liberty (only water and tea are free), which offsets any price difference between them. Crowd levels can be checked via TV or app; Liberty always showed "crowded," while Green Terrace was "relatively empty." In reality, there were plenty of seats available at Green Terrace with no lines for food. However, regarding crab dishes in both venues—don’t expect too much as they weren’t very meaty. As for the baths: they alternate between men’s use on B1 during afternoons/evenings and B2 in the mornings (and vice versa for women). The issue lies with B1—it is labeled an open-air bath but offers no view of the outside; while connected to fresh air, it doesn’t feel like a true open-air bath. In contrast, B2 matches what is shown on their website—a proper open-air bath experience! If you only bathe in B1 as a man without trying B2 in the morning session—you might feel disappointed or even misled! This should definitely be communicated clearly on their website or during check-in by front desk staff. That said aside from this point—the baths themselves were spacious with many tubs available—overall very satisfying! The Facility does show its age but is well-maintained with thorough cleaning throughout; staff members greeted us warmly every time we passed by them which left us feeling great upon checkout! I can confidently recommend this Hotel to others!

    Dinner at the Green Terrace was delicious, but the Onsen was truly exceptional. The sulfur spring and acidic iron spring were incredibly rejuvenating.

    The open-air bath is amazing!

    It's been 10 years since my last visit. The open-air baths were great with various options and perfect water temperature, leaving my friend who came along very satisfied. The dinner buffet was also excellent, and the crab was definitely a highlight! (Last time there were three types: king crab, horsehair crab, and snow crab, but I understand.) The scallops and steak were also delicious. I ended up eating too much (laughs). When we returned to the room, the futon had been laid out for us; however, there was a mattress with sheets but no futon? That left me puzzled. This was my only complaint. I would love to visit this accommodation again!

    Hmm, a good Hotel? Maybe...

    The Onsen and facilities were perfect. Unfortunately, the customer service (especially in the dining area) was terrible. The head chef? in the kitchen had a particularly bad attitude. When we informed them that the all-you-can-eat crab was running low, they went to the back without responding and brought out more crab silently. I believe better staff training is necessary. Some dishes were served cold, and this was my first time feeling unpleasant at an all-you-can-eat experience. It’s disappointing because the Onsen and other aspects were excellent. If I have another chance to visit, I hope these issues will be improved by then.

    Noboribetsu is amazing!

    As expected, Noboribetsu in Hokkaido is truly remarkable! It was my first visit, but I could feel the essence of Japan as a tourism powerhouse being passed down to the younger generation. The spirit of hospitality displayed here is exceptional and rare to find in other regions. Thank you, Drifters!

    With the period before Golden Week, it is not crowded, there are many types of Onsen, and the Room is clean.

    We stayed in a large room as a family of four with my parents. The service, including at the counter, was excellent. Since it was just before Golden Week, it wasn’t crowded, and there were many types of Onsen to enjoy. The room was clean, and the Onsen was almost empty, allowing for a relaxing experience! We had our meals at Green Terrace; there were no large groups or many inbound tourists, so it was quiet and peaceful for dining. The taste of the food was decent. I would love to stay here again if I have the chance!

    I will visit again!

    When it comes to Noboribetsu Onsen, "Mahoroba" is the place to stay. It’s my favorite Onsen Hotel. We stayed in a Japanese-style room for three people. The onsen is spacious with multiple hot spring sources, and the open-air bath is especially amazing. For dining, Green Terrace is highly recommended! There’s no crowd, and you can enjoy all-you-can-eat crab. The seasoning has improved compared to before, with larger portions of crab meat and sweet shrimp sashimi that are generously sized. Grilled scallops, grilled shrimp, tempura, steak, ramen—all were delicious with great flavors. However, the dessert selection was limited and there was no ice cream available—quite disappointing. For breakfast, the squid sashimi and French toast were delightful. On weekdays, it’s less crowded and accommodation rates are more affordable—highly recommended!

    A Long-Awaited Return to Mahoroba

    Stayed at the accommodation for the first time in 10 years. The baths have been completely renovated and were amazing, especially the open-air bath. The buffet was great for both dinner and breakfast. If I may add, having an all-you-can-drink option during the dinner buffet would make it perfect!

    The door of the Room creaked every time it was opened or closed, and there was hair in the closet. Upon informing the front desk, they kindly changed the Room for us.

    Enjoy a delightful bath experience.

    We visited with children, and after check-in, we went to the women's Onsen. The variety of baths and the slide in the outdoor bath excited the kids. Since it was a weekday and not crowded, they enjoyed sliding multiple times. However, when my husband and son heard about it and went to the men's Onsen with high expectations, they found that the outdoor bath on that side was dark and misty. My son got scared and couldn't use the slide, which was a bit disappointing. The baths switch between men’s and women’s sides in the morning, but I felt that children would enjoy the outdoor bath on basement level 2 more. The Facility felt a bit old but maintained good cleanliness. The Room had a unit bathroom instead of an auto-lock system, giving off a traditional Ryokan vibe. However, we couldn’t fine-tune the air conditioning in our Room; turning it off made it too cold at night while setting it to low made it too warm—causing our kids to wake up during sleep until we turned it off completely. Since children's indoor wear included shorts only, temperature control was challenging. The highlight of our stay was definitely dinner featuring crab dishes! This was what we were most looking forward to—and we ate plenty! The seafood corner's salmon roe had firm grains and tasted amazing as well. While tempura was delicious too, its station being tucked away in a dimly lit area meant fewer people noticed—it took us some time as well! Clearer signage or layout improvements could help guests find everything easily next time around. Additionally worth noting: seating arrangements were quite cramped; even using carts for carrying food became difficult due lack-of-space between tables—barely enough room for one person passing through comfortably! That said though despite minor inconveniences like these—the all-you-can-eat crab feast combined alongside relaxing Onsen experience offered unbeatable value-for-money overall satisfaction ensuring we'd love returning again someday soon!

    First Time at Noboribetsu Onsen

    Visited Noboribetsu from Mie Prefecture for a one-night stay. Rented a car and headed to the Onsen. Checked in at 3 PM, took a nap, then enjoyed the bath. Took another bath the next morning. Dinner at Green Terrace started at 7 PM—everything was delicious! Sweet shrimp were fresh from nearby waters, amberjack was delightfully firm, and the steak was amazing. The soy sauce ramen as a finishing dish is a must-try! Ate so much for breakfast that I couldn’t eat anything until late night after returning home. Considering this accommodation price, it’s worth flying there! Thank you to all the staff members!

    Beyond expectations

    This was my first stay. The room with an open-air bath was very clean and I loved it. The temperature of the bath in the room was easy to adjust and very comfortable. While the exterior, common areas, and large public bath felt a bit dated, they were well-maintained and clean, so I had no complaints at all. At the buffet, the ramen for dinner and ohagi for breakfast were surprisingly delightful. I would love to stay here again.

    Girls' Trip

    Mahoroba Onsen is amazing! There is a family bath with a slide, and both adults and children were sliding down, laughing out loud. It was so much fun! The Bear Ranch is nearby, and they provided transportation from the ropeway station to Jigokudani (Hell Valley), which was really helpful since we had kids with us. The staff at Mahoroba's counter were incredibly kind, helping us plan visits to tourist spots like the Bear Ranch, Upopoy, and Jigokudani. Thanks to them, we had a wonderful trip!

    The food was absolutely delicious!

    I have used your services several times. This was my first time dining at GreenTerrace, and I was truly impressed by how delicious both dinner and breakfast were! The seafood, including crab and sashimi, was abundant, with freshly prepared steak at the Staub corner for dinner and freshly made French toast for breakfast. The seating area was spacious, allowing my family to enjoy a relaxing meal together. We reserved two rooms for our family and parents, and we appreciate that they were arranged adjacent to each other. As always, we were extremely satisfied with the bath facilities! We will continue to use your services in the future. Thank you so much for providing us with such wonderful memories!

    It was my first time staying at Mahoroba, and the Room was spacious with a very comfortable bed. Above all, the seafood I had been looking forward to was delicious, including crab and steak—every dish was delightful. My child and I are already talking about wanting to visit again.

    Very satisfied with the cost-effective Plan. The Room was well-maintained and clean despite its age, and the meals were delicious, including salmon roe. The bath had multiple tubs, so it didn’t feel cramped even when crowded. There was a rare waterfall bath, and the open-air baths included a charming rock bath and a fragrant all-cypress tub. As an adult, I also tried the slide twice—it was fun! I would love to return when there’s another great Plan available.

    Mahoroba is known as...

    Mahoroba is known as the "department store of baths," and it truly lives up to its name with a wide variety of large baths. When you think of Noboribetsu, it's got to be Mahoroba! I love it so much that I visit every year. I've tried both the kaiseki cuisine and the Green Terrace for meals, and they are absolutely delicious! I definitely want to visit Mahoroba again next time!
