    With decor reminisce...

    With decor reminiscent of an Okinawan villa, we were able to spend our time comfortably both in the room and throughout the Accommodation. The Onsen water was also excellent. The meals featured premium ingredients and were beautifully presented and delicious, but the portions were smaller than at Yamado in Iwate, which felt unexpectedly modest. Even so, we couldn’t help thinking how wonderful it would be to stay at this lovely Accommodation for many days.

    This is a refined Accommodation for adults. I requested the special course meal, and it was so satisfying that it may have been the best food I’ve had at any Accommodation I’ve stayed at. The staff’s service was also attentive and excellent. Relax while enjoying views of the sea on the Oga Peninsula. Late-night snacks are hardly available, so if you tend to get hungry, bring something with you.

    Experience the Sea of the Oga Peninsula with All Five Senses

    It was featured in various media and magazines when it opened in May 2025, and I had been hoping to visit someday. This time, I made it the highlight of my Tohoku round trip. It sits on a hillside overlooking the Sea of Japan and Unosaki Coast. The residential building, the main building (which also houses the restaurant), and the Onsen building are all designed so that each faces the sea. The expansive grounds feature beautifully maintained gardens, black-toned buildings, and a serene yet magnificent contrast between ocean and sky. At dusk, watching the color of the water change moment by moment is truly elegant. I stayed in a twin-bed Room. The Room is styled in calm wood tones, natural off-white hues, and natural stone—an understated palette inspired by nature. There is an indoor bath with an ocean view; this is not an Onsen but regular hot water. A bath additive made with Oga Peninsula nigari (bittern) was provided. The Onsen building has separate shared open-air baths for men and women. It felt refreshingly as if the tub extended straight into the sea itself. Soaking while gazing at calm waters is deeply soothing for both body and mind. There is also a private open-air bath available as an optional add-on. Both dinner and breakfast featured plenty of local Akita ingredients—especially seafood—and were as enjoyable to look at as they were delicious, leaving me completely satisfied. The fish dishes in particular were outstanding. The Japanese-Western fusion dinner was very satisfying. Breakfast included a set meal with sashimi from early morning preparation, along with specialties you can help yourself to freely—both were wonderful. Marketed in media coverage as an Accommodation where you can savor the blessings of Oga Peninsula’s sea with all five senses—having actually stayed here, I found it truly moving. Because it’s far away I can’t visit easily, but I left promising myself I would return again in a different season someday.

    Seasonal Cuisine

    I’m a returning guest. This time, I was extremely satisfied with the meals. The seasonal appetizers made with plenty of Akita ingredients really captured the feeling of the season, and the cream soup infused with Oga seafood broth was outstanding. The main fish dish came with an original sauce that brought out the flavor of the fish, and I finished it in no time. There was a wide selection of drinks to pair with the meal, and the craft gin made in Oga was especially delicious.\nNext time, I’d love to enjoy dishes from a different season as well.

    It was a wonderful A...

    It was a wonderful Accommodation, exactly as expected. The meals were exceptionally delicious, with plenty of local specialties. The staff were all pleasant and welcoming. The Room was clean, comfortable, and had a great view. The bath in the Room is not an Onsen (that was the only disappointment), but it was still very relaxing. The open-air bath also had a fantastic view. Thank you very much.

    Serenity and Spectacular Views to Savor with All Five Senses

    From the moment we stepped out of the car, through the open-air bath and all the way to waking up the next morning, all we could hear was the soothing chirping of birds. Built into a mountainside, the Hotel offers unobstructed views from everywhere; beyond a large single-pane window, the horizon looked like a perfectly framed painting. We also felt at ease thanks to the warm hospitality of the staff. They remembered our casual conversation during our room introduction about wanting to see the sunset, and during dinner they kindly guided us to the terrace saying, “Now is the best time.” The exquisite gradient of sea and sunset—and later, a sky filled with more stars than we had ever seen—left us truly fulfilled. The sake tasting we ordered midway through dinner was also outstanding. Rather than offering a fixed set, they carefully selected on the spot which labels would pair best with each dish—something we greatly appreciated. We were also shown an album of seasonal photos of this Hotel taken by staff (we heard their “moonrise” over the sea is spectacular), and it didn’t take long for us to decide: “We’ll definitely come back in another season.”

    An Accommodation where you can forget the everyday hustle and bustle and soothe your soul with the Sea of Japan, delicious food, and drinks.

    We originally planned to visit the Fukushima area, but changed our plans after learning about a campaign in Akita. We researched various options such as Kakunodate and Oga, and decided on Yamado this time. We had a wonderful stay at Yamado in Iwate as well, and this visit met our expectations again. The staff at Yamado are courteous and very pleasant. When traveling to different Accommodations, impressions of the food and baths vary, but in the end it’s the staff who leave the strongest impression and make you want to return. The photo book featuring DSLR photography was also lovely. This time we were blessed with good weather; the Sea of Japan was beautiful and truly relaxing. The cuisine featured ingredients unique to Akita and was unforgettable. We would love to come again.

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

    I’d been curious about this place for a long time, and with the Akita Prefecture discount available this time, I decided to give it a try. I’m truly glad I stayed here. The building is new and stylish, and the Onsen felt authentic. It may have been because I went on a weekday, but there were few guests, so I rarely ran into anyone, which was also nice. The meals were also genuinely delicious. I don’t usually eat much at breakfast, but it was so good that I ended up having multiple refills. Depending on the course it may vary, but if you ask, some items come with unlimited refills—and the quality was excellent. I’d love to visit again for a refreshing getaway.

    A bit disappointing.

    We stayed in the Grand Suite, and the view from the Room was wonderful. Sorry to be blunt, but the welcome sweets in the Room felt a bit disappointing—just two cookies in a single packet. Since the Room is built to make use of the natural terrain, it can’t be helped, but there are steps, so guests who need barrier-free access should choose their Room carefully. Some windows also do not have blackout curtains; in May it gets light early, so I woke up around 4 a.m. and couldn’t rest as much as I wanted. Bringing an eye mask is recommended. It would also have been nice to have bathrobes. I was honestly surprised that alcoholic drinks in the lounge were charged separately for a Facility in this price range. Dinner looked beautiful, but nothing really stood out, and it didn’t feel like particularly premium ingredients were used. Personally, the soup had a strong seafood smell and was overly salty, making it hard to drink, and the red wine sauce for the main dish had a distinctive taste that was a bit disappointing. Breakfast was delicious. As others have pointed out, my honest impression is that overall value for money is questionable. That said, the open-air bath at the large public bath had breathtaking views and excellent water quality, and all staff members left a very positive impression. I hope to see further improvements going forward.

    Onsen is...

    The Onsen was only a small open-air bath, which felt a bit unusual. The Room bath had a stylish bathtub, but it was heated water and you have to fill it yourself. It was disappointing that it didn’t seem to match the overall atmosphere of the Accommodation. The meals featured many fresh ingredients from Oga and were delicious.

    Wonderful

    We were extremely satisfied with everything—the meals, the baths, and the staff’s service. If I had to mention anything, the hair dryer was an inexpensive model with weak airflow, and since I’m not used to wearing geta sandals, they hurt. Those are the only minor points. Thank you very much for upgrading us to the Ocean Suite.

    A Premium Stay

    On the last day of my first trip to Akita, I stayed at Yamado. It was a wonderful Accommodation, just as I had imagined. The Facility and amenities were more than sufficient, and all the staff provided genuinely pleasant service. As feedback to help make it even better: the main fish dish at dinner tasted a little bland, and the meat was quite fatty. Breakfast was very good. I know it may be difficult, but I would love to have Onsen water supplied to the in-Room bath. I also heard you have a location in Iwate, and I will definitely visit.

    The Onsen temperature was too low, and it was inconvenient to have to bring towels from the Room. Being able to change in the Room was very convenient. The staff were very kind and highly professional, and the meals were excellent.

    It was wonderful.

    Thank you very much for taking care of us for two nights. There were so many dishes that we couldn’t finish them all, and each piece of tableware was wonderful. We also appreciated your accommodation of allergy-friendly meals and meals for pregnant guests. We were happy that the items in the Room refrigerator were free of charge. We were also delighted to find Domohorn Wrinkle amenities provided. The staff’s attentive hospitality was excellent, and we would love to stay again if we have the opportunity!

    An auberge with breathtaking Sea of Japan views, just as expected.

    We stayed at Yamabito as a couple while we had errands in Katagami and Akita City. It was a little early for cherry blossom season, but we wanted to make the most of the trip and enjoy great food. We were greeted by the proprietress, and we were very satisfied with her warm hospitality. The Facility is new, the cuisine was outstanding, and Akita’s renowned sake “Taiheizan” was especially delicious. If I may mention a few minor points: part of the Facility features exposed iron-pipe framing that felt a bit like a construction site, so I thought it could be improved to better match the otherwise excellent design. It also took quite some time to fill the bathtub in our Room. The Onsen water temperature in the large public bath felt slightly lukewarm, so it didn’t quite feel like it warmed us through to the core. Dinner—from appetizers to dessert—was excellent in both quality and portion size. However, the after-dinner coffee was far too weak and left me feeling it diminished an otherwise wonderful meal; I would suggest offering better-quality, stronger coffee (even espresso would be fine). Breakfast was also superb, but I think it would have been helpful to explain portion sizes so guests don’t over-order specialty items. Lastly, although the Facility is new, perhaps due to salt damage from sea air, some black paint on the balcony fence had already corroded. I know maintenance is not easy, but I felt this should be included in your maintenance plan. Akita is famous for its mountain Onsen areas, but having the chance at Yamabito to enjoy an Onsen Accommodation with panoramic ocean-horizon views along with excellent cuisine was a truly memorable experience. We would love to visit again in another season. Thank you sincerely to all staff—please keep up your great work!

    Perfect for a young couple.

    I had been curious about Yamado for a long time, so I visited with high expectations. The moment I entered the Hotel, the atmosphere of the Room and the view were wonderful. The meals would be good for those who like fish. I preferred the breakfast to the dinner. As for bathing, the Onsen is outdoor-only; since I visited in early spring, it was manageable, but in midwinter, wouldn’t there be a risk of heat shock? Overall, it felt like a Hotel better suited to young couples in many ways.

    It’s wonderful, but it might not be for everyone.

    Spacious Room, beautiful views, and delicious meals. On the other hand, there is a simple open-air bath without a washing area, an exposed corridor connecting each Facility, and many steps. It is a wonderful auberge, but it may not be suitable for elderly guests.

    As expected from Yamabito, this Accommodation fully lived up to our expectations.

    We visited with great anticipation after hearing that Yamado of Yuda had opened a Hotel in Oga, and it truly lived up to our expectations. We were delighted by the breathtaking views of Unosaki Coast and the horizon from our Room, as well as the many dishes featuring fresh local seafood prepared by the head chef.

    A Refreshing Escape

    This was my third visit, and I truly appreciate your calm, understated hospitality without excessive service. I was also very happy to meet Head Chef Shibata for the first time, who previously served as the head chef at Nishiwaga Yamado. I felt that his character is what creates such wonderfully delicious dishes—he’s a fantastic chef. I’m thinking of visiting again around July, and I’m looking forward to the next meal.     Oga in Winter

    I stayed during the Namahage season and was able to experience the austere atmosphere of Akita. As expected from Yamado, just like in Nishiwaga, the meals were exceptionally delicious and beautifully presented, and I truly enjoyed them. Next time, I would like to visit in the fresh greenery season to see how green Hachirogata becomes. I hope to be able to enjoy a beautiful sunset and a sky full of stars then. Thank you again in advance. One note: the Onsen is wonderful, but please let guests know beforehand that the hot-spring minerals are black and may make their skin look dark. Thank you.

    I had heard about th...

    I had heard about the opening of Yamado in Oga and was eager to visit. If Yamado in Iwate represents the mountains, this one is by the sea. The completely different location is fascinating. Yamado in Oga lived up to my expectations and was wonderful. The open-air bath overlooking the Sea of Japan was breathtaking—I couldn't resist going in multiple times. We used this accommodation to celebrate my husband's retirement, and we were deeply touched by the heartfelt hospitality from all staff members, who always greeted us with smiles. However... There is something that has been bothering me. We arrived at the accommodation at the same time as another group of inbound guests. During check-in, we were made to stand at the reception counter while they were guided to a lounge sofa for their check-in process. This was my first experience being checked in while standing at an accommodation of this class—it’s something I’ve only encountered at a business hotel before. While it’s true that there was only enough space for one group on that particular lounge sofa, there were plenty of other sofas and table seats available near the bar area right next door. Why were they guided to sit comfortably in the lounge while we had to stand? This question still lingers with me even now—was it preferential treatment for inbound guests? If there was a specific reason behind it, I would appreciate knowing so I can put my mind at ease.

    Hospitality is excellent for the price.

    For an accommodation at this price range, you would typically be welcomed with tea as a gesture of "thank you for your hard work," but here it was self-service, allowing guests to drink whenever they liked. However, the sense of welcome and hospitality felt lacking. Driving all the way from Tokyo by car, the reception felt no different from that of a regular business hotel. We had mentioned that we were introduced to this place by someone who said it was a wonderful accommodation, but the response was just a casual "Oh, I see." It was a cold day with heavy rain. Walking from the room to the dining area in geta sandals was quite cold and wet. While other accommodations provide warm outerwear or shoes suitable for rain or snow, there were none here. Although it's not a long distance, moving around in just loungewear felt very chilly. The food itself was delicious; however, places like this are expected to excel in hospitality as well. The dishes were brought out with brief explanations and no further interaction or conversation—it all felt very mechanical and impersonal. This diminished the overall experience significantly. The grilled horse mackerel sashimi served at dinner also appeared again at breakfast; it would have been better if there had been more variety between meals. On a positive note, having many options to choose from for breakfast dishes was great. The room itself was excellent and comfortable, and the onsen experience was pleasant too; however, during winter it can feel quite cold walking to the baths. There were also no explanations provided about private baths. For its price point, customer service feels more akin to that of a business hotel. When visiting such beautiful accommodations like this one expects exceptional hospitality as part of the experience—if staff members at reception or in dining areas could improve their understanding of hospitality further through training or study sessions—it could truly become an outstanding accommodation!

    Shocking Service

    I stayed for one night and two days. The building was clean, the food was very delicious, and the service was excellent except for one incident. However, that one incident was extremely shocking. Around 8 a.m., while I was getting ready to head to the breakfast area, a male staff member suddenly unlocked and opened my door without notice. Fortunately, I wasn’t in the middle of changing clothes, but it left me quite shaken. Although he immediately apologized and exited the room at that moment, I expected further explanation or an apology later on. However, there was no mention of it either at the breakfast area or during check-out. Mistakes can happen as we are all human; however, for a woman in vulnerable attire (sleepwear), having an unfamiliar man suddenly enter is deeply frightening. For a hotel in this price range to have such an incident occur without proper apology is unacceptable. I strongly urge measures to prevent this from happening again. Aside from this event, all other staff members were consistently polite and pleasant throughout my stay. This is a hotel where even small details like arranging chopsticks or spoons are carefully considered during check-in procedures.

    In the heart of nature

    I stayed at the new accommodation by Yamabito. On the day of my stay, it was windy and snowy, so the open-air bath, connecting corridors, and elevator hall in the accommodation building were cold, and I was worried about slipping. Considering the wind and snow during this season (though it may not be an issue in summer), I think it would be better if the dressing room for the open-air bath, elevator hall, and connecting corridors were enclosed with walls. The room was clean and comfortable, and the food was delicious. I would like to visit again.

    Accommodation for Husband's Birthday

    I have stayed twice at the Yamabito accommodation in Nishiwaga. The Yamabito accommodation in Oga was also excellent. My husband seemed to like it very much and said he would love to stay again. The room and meals were very satisfying. Although the room did not have an onsen, the view was great, and it was very comfortable. The food was delicious, though the meat was a bit tough to chew. All the staff were kind and had wonderful smiles, which made our stay very pleasant. Thank you so much!

    - The personal service, attentiveness, and hospitality are as wonderful as the mountain people of Nishiwaga. - The building uses a mix of high-end materials and cheaper ones, resulting in a structure that does not feel entirely luxurious or high-quality overall. - As this is a high-priced Onsen Ryokan, the private baths in guest rooms should also use Onsen water to provide a sense of luxury and value. - Noisy guests at the dining area can ruin an otherwise delicious meal. When a group of Chinese tourists entered, the atmosphere completely changed. More soundproof private dining rooms are needed. - Due to its focus on attracting inbound tourists with high prices, it feels less accessible for casual visits. Additionally, I felt that the experience did not match the premium pricing level.

    The accommodation offered a stunning view of Unosaki Coast. 【Room】 The view from the room was breathtaking, but the shower water pressure was extremely weak, which was frustrating. A bathrobe would have been appreciated. 【Onsen Open-Air Bath】 Both the view and water quality were excellent, providing great warmth; however, there were no towels provided in the indoor bath or washing area. The changing space was exposed to outside air, making it cold in the morning. 【Meals】 Breakfast was good, but dinner did not meet expectations. Drink prices were reasonably set. 【Facility】 Access to the onsen from guest rooms required going outside entirely. Coffee and ice cream in the lounge were complimentary, but alcohol came at an additional cost. 【Service】 The hospitality and service provided by all staff members were truly outstanding. For an accommodation priced over 60,000 yen per person per night, a certain level of comfort is expected—please forgive this critical review!
