    We had a great time!

    Three women, fully satisfied with both the food and the room. It was a bit disappointing that the room's bath was not an Onsen, but the private bath on the first floor had excellent water quality. The location was very convenient for sightseeing. All the staff were kind and helpful. Even though it was outside of check-out hours, they kindly gave us a ride to the station—thank you so much!

    Not the best value for money.

    The room was very clean and beautiful, but at this price, the bathroom in the room was not an onsen, and I was surprised to see canned peaches served as dessert during the meal. I always stay at accommodations of this class across the whole country, but this is the first time I've encountered an accommodation using canned fruit. If it were a budget accommodation, I could understand; however, the meal quality is average, and there are no amenities like mouthwash or shower caps. When explaining about the room, staff did not mention where slippers were placed. I feel that more attention to detail is needed in various aspects of this accommodation.

    The accommodation, its facilities, and the staff were all wonderful. We visited with my elderly parents for a relaxing trip, and thanks to the kindness of everyone, we were able to enjoy a peaceful stay together. The food was incredibly delicious, and we were completely satisfied with full stomachs. As a luxurious request, I felt that it might have been better if the timing of serving the main meat dish was earlier since we were already quite full from other dishes by then. However, everything about this accommodation was satisfying, and I would love to visit again. Thank you very much!

    Located in a popular tourist destination, we chose this accommodation among many options. At the time of reservation, there were no ratings available, so it was an exciting stay. However, from the moment we arrived, everyone provided very courteous service, and we felt it was a hospitality-filled accommodation. After strolling around the town, we enjoyed dinner with a light buzz from drinks. Every dish was delicious and made us want to drink even more. Additionally, there were lounge services offered at different times of the day—beer after a bath, fruits and spirits after dinner, morning coffee—and we could relax leisurely in the lounge as well. This is an accommodation I would love to visit again!

    Had a great time.

    There is a discount for the 1st anniversary, and overall satisfaction is high. The Room and private bath are spacious, providing a relaxing experience. The twin beds are semi-double size, which is great. Free drinks are available in the Room and at the lounge on the 2nd floor. The premium private bath was also available for free use. However, it was inconvenient to bring towels from the Room to this bath. The public bath is located in another building, about a 5-minute walk away, so we decided not to use it. Dinner was satisfying in both taste and quantity; however, it was disappointing that all three types of wine priced around ¥10,000 were out of stock. Breakfast could have had more variety in side dishes. Staff service and attitude were excellent. During autumn foliage season, nearby attractions were beautiful as well. It would be nice to visit again during a different season. Located in central Takayama City, we could leave our car at the parking lot and enjoy a leisurely stroll from morning until noon the next day without any rush.

    Memorable hospitality with attentive service

    The hotel was fully booked during the November holiday, but we were very satisfied with the excellent service and delicious meals. Although there was a miscommunication regarding the reservation for the private bath, which resulted in us being unable to use it, we could feel everyone's heartfelt efforts in their service. It made us want to stay here again! If I may make a suggestion, as our family does not drink alcohol at all, it would be nice if there were more sweet treats and tea options available in the lounge. That said, we thoroughly enjoyed the cozy lounge featuring Hida furniture. Thank you very much!

    A very lovely Ryokan

    We stayed here for a family trip. As the staff mentioned, it has been less than a year since it opened, so everything was new and clean. The interior had a calm atmosphere with a sense of cleanliness, and the staff's attentive service allowed us to feel at ease throughout our stay. The dining area was located in a renovated warehouse right in front of the Ryokan, offering a charming ambiance. The dishes were all delicious, visually appealing, and reflected the seasonal flavors. The lounge had a lovely atmosphere where we could enjoy changing drinks and snacks over time while relaxing peacefully. The private Onsen bath was impeccably clean, allowing us to enjoy it comfortably as a family without any concerns. Nearby the Ryokan is an old townscape that we enjoyed exploring during our strolls. It’s an excellent location for enjoying both Onsen and sightseeing. Thanks to the kind staff members, this trip became truly wonderful for us—thank you very much! This is definitely a Ryokan I would love to visit again in another season!

    It was my first time visiting Hida Takayama. The meals, heartfelt hospitality, and spacious Room allowed me to fully relax. I would love to stay here again if I visit Takayama in the future.

    Unfortunately, it was rainy.

    I visit Takayama once a year during different seasons, and this time I stayed at Ichiryu for the first time after hearing it was renovated last year. From the moment I arrived, the hospitality left a great impression and raised my expectations. The room was very spacious and clean, with a well-stocked fridge of free drinks that added to my satisfaction. Additionally, the lounge offered a variety of drinks and snacks depending on the time of day, making it a relaxing space to unwind. Although it started raining quite heavily in the evening, staff kindly assisted by holding an umbrella for me during the short walk to the dinner venue. The meals were abundant in variety and quantity; I especially enjoyed plenty of their signature Hida beef. If I may make one suggestion: while the bathroom in my room was spacious with perfectly warm water anytime, its depth made getting in and out slightly challenging—perhaps providing a step stool would help. Also, having more warm options at breakfast would be appreciated. Overall, it was an excellent accommodation that I'd love to revisit during another season!

    Everything was perfect.

    From the moment we arrived, we were deeply impressed by the warm and attentive hospitality. The staff, both young and senior, provided heartfelt service that made our stay truly pleasant. The room was impeccably clean and well-maintained, offering exceptional comfort. While the private bath in the room was not an onsen, it was spacious and inviting enough to make us want to use it multiple times. The private onsen baths were also charming and provided a blissful experience. Dinner was beautifully presented with exquisite flavors in every dish. As someone who eats quickly, I would have appreciated slightly faster service for each course; however, this minor point was more than compensated by the delicious food and thoughtful care from the staff. This is undoubtedly a luxury accommodation with prices that are not inexpensive; however, the satisfaction far exceeded its cost. We left Takayama feeling immensely fulfilled and look forward to staying here again on our next visit!

    Very satisfied

    We were lucky to secure a reservation the day before our visit. **Lounge** The lounge had a relaxing atmosphere with a gentle flow of time. The chairs and sofas, possibly made from Hida furniture, exuded a warm wooden feel and a sense of quality. There was a wide variety of drinks, and I was especially delighted to find cocoa in the coffee maker! Since I avoid caffeine, this was very helpful. Although I don't drink alcohol, I was satisfied with the availability of orange juice. Additionally, I was happy to find complimentary juice in the room's refrigerator. The lounge also had several board games, and we played three rounds of Othello! The wooden Othello set had a warm, Takayama-like charm. My spouse and I had an intense match, and it was incredibly fun! **Private Onsen** The private baths were clean, well-equipped with amenities, and very enjoyable! We managed to try all three. The water quality was mild, which was perfect for me as I don't prefer strong mineral content. Although the room's bath was not an onsen, it was impressive to find ReFa shampoo and conditioner provided! **Meals** The meals were delicious and well-seasoned. As I am pregnant and avoiding raw foods, they kindly adjusted some dishes and even served caffeine-free tea. Their thoughtfulness was truly appreciated. Breakfast was also very tasty, and I personally loved the mayonnaise on the salad. The staff were all very kind and attentive. The location was perfect for exploring Takayama on foot! Both my spouse and I were extremely satisfied with our stay.

    Worn and sweaty loungewear, lacking understanding of hygiene and the essence of service.

    I am writing this review due to an extremely surprising experience. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a female staff member. While her explanation and service were polite, she avoided eye contact throughout the interaction, which felt odd. (In hindsight, other female staff members during dinner and breakfast exhibited similar behavior.) Everything was fine until after dinner when I wore the yukata recommended by the staff in our room. Shockingly, the yukata provided in the closet had a strong sweat odor as if it had been previously worn by someone else. I have never encountered such an issue at a ryokan of this price range before. My husband quickly put it on after his bath but immediately took it off due to its unbearable smell. Upon closer inspection, we confirmed that it reeked of stale sweat and was clearly used before being placed in our room's closet as "clean." My husband suggested not escalating the matter since he was tired, but just thinking about such an unclean item being present in our room made me shudder. I brought it to the front desk and reported it to an older male and female staff member there. While they apologized, they did not seem particularly surprised (which shocked me even more). When I asked them to smell it themselves for confirmation, their reaction made me wonder if this is a common occurrence here. The next morning at breakfast was also disappointing—aside from the initial drink served without any explanation about other dishes presented afterward. The simmered radish dish? It was so tough with fibers that we couldn’t eat it; lettuce in the salad appeared oxidized with red discoloration or included thick stems unsuitable for serving fresh vegetables—so these too remained untouched on our plates! Reflecting back now: even Hida beef served during dinner wasn’t enjoyable either—it looked marbled yet overly fatty & tough making chewing difficult while dessert grapes seemed old mushy texture-wise leaving us hesitant consuming them altogether hence left uneaten instead. We frequently visited lounge areas where unfortunately nighttime seating caused itchiness around legs/waist regions noticed tiny bugs crawling atop tables holding drinks realizing reason behind discomfort returning promptly rooms thereafter avoiding further exposure pests altogether! Facilities themselves modern featuring trendy items like Rifa hairdryers appealing Instagram-worthy aesthetics likely attracting guests initially however based personal stay experiences feel     I stayed for one nig...

    I stayed for one night from August 30th. I had previously visited when it was Seiryu and loved the food, but I couldn't fully explore the old town back then. This time, I chose to stay here for my wedding anniversary to leisurely stroll through the historic streets. Compared to other accommodations, it is a bit more expensive, so my husband and I saved up our allowances for this visit. Since it was our wedding anniversary, they upgraded our room, and dinner was incredibly delicious with a surprise that deeply moved us. It became a truly wonderful wedding anniversary. We also enjoyed the private bath without any worries and could relax completely. It turned out to be a healing and delightful trip. Thank you very much to everyone!

    A wonderful accommodation.

    I usually stay at Kachouan, but this was my first time here. The staff's hospitality was pleasant, and both the food and the Room were excellent—I’m glad I chose this place. The lounge was also very satisfying. If the bathroom window could open even slightly, it would have added a sense of openness and been perfect. I will definitely come back!

    We had a luxurious and enjoyable time.

    When we arrived by car, we were surprised to see staff waiting for us at the entrance! All the staff greeted us with warm smiles and maintained a perfect balance of attentiveness, making our stay very comfortable. The Onsen was spacious enough to enjoy a relaxing time. The meals were beautifully presented in elegant dishes, and every dish was delicious. The truffle rice, in particular, was a first for me, and I loved both its aroma and taste. The room was spacious with well-equipped amenities. The soft and fluffy towels left a lasting impression on me. One small suggestion: as someone who tends to feel warm easily, it would be great if there were fans in the changing area of the Onsen. This is an accommodation I would love to visit again.     Wonderful Ryokan Ichiryu

    Every year, I celebrate my birthday while traveling. This year, I visited Takayama for the first time and stayed at "Machi Accommodation Ichiryu," where I enjoyed a leisurely walk through the beautiful old streets of Takayama and created wonderful memories. (The streets of Takayama were very clean without a single piece of trash.) The staff at the accommodation welcomed me with warm smiles, and both the room and bath were spacious. I also had a relaxing time in the private open-air bath. I chose a breakfast-included plan, and enjoyed a delicious meal in a private room within a lovely building. The tableware was also charming. Next time, I’d like to stay at Ichiryu again for about two nights to explore Takayama more leisurely. The drinks in the refrigerator were all complimentary; however, since I don’t drink alcohol, it would have been better if I had informed them in advance. The sofa was slightly low and firm compared to the table height, making it less comfortable to sit on—so next time I'll consider trying another room (laughs). I had such an amazing day. Thank you very much!

The room was conveniently close to the lounge, and we used it every time we returned to the room.     It was a luxurious experience.

    The lounge was a key factor in my decision to stay here, as it was available for use throughout the day. I enjoyed relaxing in the lounge after check-in, dinner, and breakfast. Although there was supposed to be an original movie screening after dinner, nothing happened, which was disappointing. Additionally, when I tried using the lounge machine to get iced café latte and iced matcha after breakfast, they were not cold; the café latte was too weak to drink. Other than that, everything else was excellent. The Room was spacious and comfortable. The towels and bathrobes were fluffy and very pleasant to use. The beverages provided in the Room were well-stocked—not only sencha but also hojicha—and there was even decaf coffee available, which I appreciated greatly. The meals were delicious with local mountain vegetables as garnishes, served on beautiful tableware. I enjoyed not only the bath in my Room but also a private bath during my stay. I used the massage chair next to the bath as well and had herbal tea afterward—it tasted wonderful. Thanks to all of your kind and attentive staff members, I had a luxurious time during my stay. I would love to stay here again if given another opportunity!

    An exceptional and wonderful accommodation beyond expectations

    We initially had low expectations due to the limited reviews and last-minute reservation just before Golden Week, but this turned out to be a truly wonderful accommodation. This time, we stayed with my elderly mother-in-law, and the staff were incredibly attentive, offering assistance when entering or exiting the facility and promptly providing a wheelchair for use inside. Their thoughtful service made our stay very pleasant. The room was spacious, exceptionally clean, and comfortable. The meals were delicious with great attention to presentation. Although I usually don’t eat much rice during meals as I enjoy pairing food with alcohol, I couldn’t resist finishing the visually impressive truffle egg over rice dish. We used a private bath that was available when unoccupied. While it accommodated three of us comfortably with four washing stations, there was only one set of amenities provided, which was slightly inconvenient. Additionally, handrails for elderly guests would be appreciated. Above all else, the warm hospitality of the staff made our stay truly enjoyable. We look forward to visiting again when we travel to Takayama in the future. Thank you!

    Highly Rated Accommodation

    We had a wonderful stay during our visit to Hida Takayama. As it is called a town accommodation, it is very convenient for sightseeing. There are three private baths, and the cypress bath was especially amazing. The room's bath was already filled with hot water upon arrival. Meals are served in the building across the street, and both the dishes and presentation were excellent and delicious. There is also a lounge where drinks and snacks are available for free. Being a small accommodation, it was quiet and peaceful to stay here.

    Cold wheat noodles are delicious.

    The first cold noodles were incredibly delicious, and I found myself wanting to have them again. They were topped with mountain vegetables and bottarga, and the broth was rich in flavor. Other dishes were beautifully presented, enjoyable to look at, and tasted great as well. The Room was new, clean, and equipped with plenty of amenities, which made for a satisfying stay. The service was so exceptional that it almost made me feel apologetic. The lounge offered different light meals in the morning, afternoon, and evening with a pleasant atmosphere.

    A cozy accommodation located in the heart of the city

    The room, meals, and lounge were all highly satisfying accommodations. There was a selection of welcome drinks, and the zenzai was delicious. My husband was very pleased with the alcohol in the lounge. Unfortunately, we couldn't enjoy much of the changing snacks due to being too full. Both dinner and breakfast were delightful. One disappointing point was that out of three private onsen baths, two were closed for maintenance. It would have been nice if at least one "no-reservation-needed private bath" had been available. Having to keep track of time made it less relaxing. Also, during meals, the BGM occasionally included commercial-like narrations, which felt out of place. I noticed some inconsistency in staff skills; considering the price range of this accommodation, there were moments that left me questioning their service level... However, there were also staff members who could sense our needs through conversation and respond accordingly. Additionally, having a chat about Takayama Festival with what seemed to be the proprietress upon departure made me appreciate staying at a ryokan. While I’ve mentioned some critical points here and there—having convenient parking in town is greatly appreciated—and I was satisfied with both the meals and room overall. I look forward to staying again someday! Thank you very much!

    I booked this accommodation based on reviews. It was a wonderful accommodation as expected. The attentiveness in the lounge was particularly impressive. However, it was a bit disappointing that the room's bath was not an onsen. Additionally, some staff made inappropriate remarks, which was very unfortunate. Guests are not colleagues or friends; there are things that should and should not be said. I requested an in-room massage, but the service provided was completely opposite to my request and extremely unprofessional—so poorly done that it felt like throwing money away. It seemed disrespectful to travelers and ruined the hospitality experience. If requests cannot be met, I believe they should be declined upfront. The next day, I requested a skilled therapist for another session instead.

    My first trip to Hida Takayama was with a friend from high school. We arrived around noon, and even though it was before check-in time, we were warmly welcomed with smiles. The parking lot was spacious and easy to park in, with enough spots available (and parking was allowed until 3 PM the next day). For the welcome drink, we chose the hot Hida apple juice and beer that had caught our attention in reviews. I was tired from driving but thrilled to enjoy a beer right after arriving. The hot apple juice, filled with cinnamon aroma, was so delicious I wanted seconds! After being shown to our room, we relaxed completely—it made us not want to go out sightseeing at all! When we returned from sightseeing later on, we spent some relaxing time in the lounge on the second floor until dinner time—where draft beer was also available! Dinner took place at a dining building across from us (168-tei). Each group received personal greetings upon arrival and departure—it left such an impression on me. The atmosphere of 168-tei itself felt very calming as well. Most importantly though—the food was outstanding! The dishes were beautifully presented using local ingredients from Hida; everything exceeded expectations. There were plenty of drink options too—including an extensive wine selection. We enjoyed not only our room's private bath but also indulged in one of their reserved baths for extra relaxation. I even treated myself to massages both at night and again in the morning :) Breakfast? Absolutely delicious too! With checkout set for 11 AM—we had enough time beforehand for a quick visit nearby Miyagawa Morning Market within walking distance. Above all else—the staff members stood out—they were incredibly friendly yet approachable throughout making this stay feel exceptionally comfortable overall. This is definitely a Ryokan I’ll return to again without question!

    It was an excellent Ryokan in every aspect.

    It was my first time visiting Takayama, so I traveled by JR instead of driving. After passing Gero, there was more snow than I had imagined, but it wasn’t too cold, and I enjoyed the beautiful snowy scenery. I arrived at the Ryokan early and they kindly stored my luggage. The welcome drink and the special zenzai prepared by the head chef were absolutely delicious. The staff at the Ryokan provided excellent service, introducing places around Takayama and even giving discount coupons for souvenir shops—they were very kind. The proprietress in particular took great care of us, making our stay comfortable from check-in to check-out. Both dinner and breakfast were beautifully presented and delicious; I definitely want to stay at this Ryokan again. The bath in the Room was always warm whenever I used it, which helped me relax completely. With ReFa shampoo & treatment, body soap, an iron, and a hairdryer available in the Room, it’s especially great for women!

    Magokoro no Tabiyado

    The departure amidst what was said to be the largest cold wave was worrisome, but the snowy scenery in Takayama was wonderful. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed with a drink and zenzai. The room is spacious and comfortable. I am pleased with the attention to detail in providing ReFa series items like shampoo, treatment, hairdryer, and beauty devices for rent. We had made a reservation for a private bath in advance, but I was delighted that the room's bath was large enough to enjoy at any time during our stay. All rooms have access to a lounge where my husband enjoyed milk and fruit before breakfast and coffee afterward at leisure. In the evening, there are also alcohol and light snacks available. Meals are served at 168 Residence right in front of us; moving through falling snow felt quite nice. The dishes were very delicious due to both their presentation and quality ingredients; especially Hida beef which was outstanding. At the end of last year when my son's family visited they recommended it saying we would love it too. Recently visiting Ryoshuku Ichiryu (Ichiryu) for our sapphire wedding anniversary wanting some quiet time together turned out great! Thank you very much!
