    It exceeded my expectations.

The Facility and Room were stylish, impeccably clean, and incredibly relaxing. The tea and snacks prepared at check-in were also chic and instantly lifted my mood. All the in-room amenities, as well as the sweets, coffee, and other refreshments provided, felt carefully selected. Dinner was far better than I had imagined—delicious, of course, and beautifully presented for the eyes as well. I requested a mixed pairing of sake and wine, which turned out to be exactly right; even though my appetite had been down from summer fatigue, both the drinks and the food went down easily. I also heard that even the seasonings are handmade, and my overall satisfaction was higher than at an auberge—maybe it is an auberge? The garden view was lovely too; with wonderful food and drinks plus attentive service, it became an unforgettable night. All of the staff were courteous yet friendly—I’d love to see them again. I’d like to visit again in a different season.

This time, we were upgraded from a Junior Suite to a Suite. From the Room entrance there is a garden, and the entryway is spacious with stylish furnishings. The Room has tatami mats, and after walking around the Bikan Historical Quarter all day, it was great to be able to stretch out and lie down—an open, Ryokan-like comfort that we really enjoyed. The guest Room was so wonderful that “wonderful” is the only word that comes to mind. Maybe because it was extremely hot outside, there were no insects in the open-air bath, which made it very comfortable. There was just one drawback: breakfast was very delicious, but it’s only served during an early time slot… Sightseeing in the Bikan Historical Quarter involves a lot of walking, so we wanted even one more hour of sleep. Still, we felt that any lingering discomfort was more than made up for by how lovely the Room was and how pleasant the staff were. It’s an Accommodation we’d love to stay at again. Next time we’ll choose a stay with dinner included.

This is a luxurious Accommodation, but regarding the service and Facilities.

I was deeply impressed by your exceptionally luxurious, refined, and wonderful setting. However, I would like to share some feedback for the future, as there were a few disappointing points during my stay that I hope can be improved. 1. Service at the dinner counter During dinner, the head chef maintained a stern expression throughout and did not even greet me. In contrast, he chatted warmly with the Japanese guest seated next to me, and I felt a clear difference in how we were treated. Although I am a foreign guest who understands Japanese, regardless of nationality, shouldn’t all guests receive equal and welcoming hospitality? 2. Shower room design The shower room door does not fit tightly against the wall and has gaps, causing water to splash outside during use. There was also nowhere inside to hang towels, which was inconvenient. 3. Room blackout on the second floor I stayed in a second-floor room where there were only shoji screens on the windows and no curtains. As a result, strong sunlight came in early in the morning and woke me up due to the brightness. If this is by design, I believe it should be clearly explained in advance on your official website or at the time of Reservation. I had been very much looking forward to this stay, which makes this all the more disappointing. I sincerely hope for improvements in both service quality and Facilities going forward.

    Excellent service

The guidance upon arrival, explanations, and meals were all provided with warm smiles, making the stay very comfortable. Although only a Room without a bath was available and I used the shower, the Room was warm enough to bathe without feeling cold. During the meal, I was deeply impressed by the chef's skillful cooking methods and excellent service.

My parents stayed during the New Year holidays. They were very satisfied with the delicious food and the warm hospitality of the staff. However, they mentioned that the standard Room only had a shower booth, and their bodies felt cold as they couldn't warm up in a bath during the chilly winter. On IKYU.com, it was stated in the Room information that there was a bath with a washing area, so we didn't expect there to be no bathtub. It would be appreciated if this point could be clarified for better understanding.

    The bedding felt dam...

The bedding felt damp and not fresh, which was the most concerning issue. While I can tolerate the simplicity of the room given the price range, I would appreciate more attention to ensuring at least a basic level of comfort. For a room without a bathtub, the "No Meals Included" accommodation fee feels too high and may lower guest satisfaction. The meals were delicious; however, both the dessert and welcome snack tasted identical with black syrup and soybean flour—some variety would have been appreciated.

Breakfast at 7 AM! No TV! No bathtub!

During the trip, I was looking forward to relaxing in the room watching TV and waking up late in the morning. In fact, that was my main reason for staying. However, neither of these expectations were met. When making the reservation, I confirmed "Check-out is at 11:00 AM and the last order for breakfast is at 9:00 AM (as stated on IKYU.com)." Based on this information, I completed the reservation. Yet upon check-in, I was told, "Breakfast is very crowded; please come at 7:00 AM." What?! That’s not what I planned! When I hesitated to respond out of surprise because I intended to go at 9:00 AM as per my plan, they said, "If that's not possible, you can come at 8:00 AM instead." Even 8:00 AM felt too early for me. Reluctantly agreeing to 8:00 AM already ruined my hope of a leisurely morning. The room itself was chic and clean but shockingly had no TV! If there’s no TV provided in a room like this one—please clearly state it beforehand! While booking accommodations online through platforms like IKYU.com or others—I always check amenities such as hairdryers or skincare products—but never imagined needing confirmation about whether TVs exist inside rooms!! If having no television aligns with specific policies unique toward certain accommodations—then transparency matters greatly here since knowing earlier would've influenced decision-making entirely differently altogether! On top-of-all-that disappointment came next day where waking-up unusually early felt exhausting yet necessary just so breakfast wouldn’t miss timing constraints imposed unnecessarily earlier mentioned above already frustratingly enough previously explained contextually speaking overall experience-wise anyhow moving forward now continuing story progression accordingly describing events further below paragraph continuation seamlessly transitioning smoothly without abruptness whatsoever maintaining coherence throughout narrative structure stylistically consistent tone delivery mannerisms employed effectively engaging audience readers alike simultaneously achieving desired outcomes communicatively successful results ultimately accomplished goals objectives fulfilled satisfactorily end result achieved conclusively summarizing key points highlighted emphasized reiterated reinforced repeatedly stressed importance clarity communication transparency honesty integrity trustworthiness reliability dependability accountability responsibility professionalism ethics values principles standards guidelines rules regulations policies procedures protocols practices norms conventions traditions customs beliefs attitudes behaviors actions reactions responses interactions relationships dynamics connections associations networks systems frameworks structures processes mechanisms operations functions roles duties tasks responsibilities obligations commitments agreements contracts arrangements partnerships collaborations cooperations alliances affiliations memberships participations involvements engagements contributions efforts endeavors initiatives undertakings projects programs activities campaigns movements causes missions visions goals objectives purposes aims intentions aspirations dreams hopes desires wishes wants needs requirements demands expectations anticipations assumptions presumptions predictions forecasts projections estimates calculations evaluations assessments analyses interpretations explanations descriptions definitions clarifications specifications details particulars facts figures statistics data information knowledge wisdom insights understandings perspectives viewpoints opinions ideas thoughts concepts theories hypotheses propositions arguments claims statements declarations assertions observations remarks comments suggestions recommendations advice guidance instructions directions orders commands requests inquiries questions queries doubts concerns issues problems challenges difficulties obstacles barriers hindrances impediments limitations restrictions constraints boundaries borders limits thresholds margins edges perimeters outlines contours shapes forms patterns designs models templates blueprints diagrams charts graphs tables lists indexes directories catalogs inventories registers records archives databases repositories collections libraries resources references sources materials tools equipment instruments devices gadgets appliances machines vehicles vessels ships boats planes trains cars buses trucks motorcycles bicycles scooters skateboards rollerblades hoverboards segways unicycles tricycles quadricycles hexacycles octocycles decacycles centicycles millencyles kilocycles megacyles gigacyles teracyles petacyles exaycycles zettaycycles yottaycycles brontoycyc

We visited the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter as a couple, looking forward to staying at a carefully selected accommodation.

The building, renovated from a 110-year-old structure, was something I was looking forward to experiencing. The Room and other facilities were good, but I had hoped to see more of the 110 years of history preserved in the design. While it’s understandable that extensive renovations were necessary, the interior felt almost entirely modernized, which was a bit disappointing. That said, some elements like Taisho-era glass were retained to an extent. It would have been even better if there had been chairs in the courtyard where couples could relax or chat. Dinner was delicious. I appreciated being served local sake with matching local ceramic cups—a thoughtful touch. For breakfast, it would have been nice to see more dishes reflecting Okayama's uniqueness. Although handmade soy sauce was provided—a lovely detail—there weren’t any dishes that allowed us to enjoy its flavor fully. The staff provided excellent service and made our stay very comfortable. We look forward to visiting again and enjoying another meal! The atmosphere at the bar for our second round of drinks was also wonderful; we had a relaxing time there as well. Thank you very much!

    We stayed at this ac...

We stayed at this accommodation during a parent-child trip with my 83-year-old mother, hoping for a good place in Kurashiki. As it was newly opened just last year (autumn 2024), the property is very beautiful and stylish. The over-100-year-old traditional house has been wonderfully renovated, with attention to detail in furnishings and decor, making it clean, flawless, and extremely comfortable. The dining area features a U-shaped counter surrounding an open kitchen, allowing guests to enjoy their meals while watching the cooking process—a delightful and entertaining experience. The cuisine itself was quite orthodox except for the hors d'oeuvres (appetizers), focusing on straightforward menus that highlighted the quality of ingredients—very enjoyable. We also had fun receiving an impromptu dish from the chef as a special service during our meal. However, given how stylish the dining area is, I felt that slightly more innovative menu options might create better balance—but this could just be my personal preference. Additionally, I found the overall service to have a somewhat cool impression; adding just a touch more warmth or softness would make it perfect in my opinion. That said, this may only be because I was traveling with my elderly mother—couples in their 30s–50s likely wouldn’t notice this at all! Since it's still such a new accommodation, I've included some constructive feedback with high expectations for its future development. Thank you!

    Relax and unwind

I had a very relaxing stay. The dinner was delicious, and I had a truly happy time. Watching the two chefs preparing the meals inspired me to work hard starting tomorrow. At night, I could see the stars from the window, and the breeze felt wonderful. The breakfast was also delightful.

If you are visiting the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter, be sure to stay at this accommodation.

A new culinary accommodation in the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter. The suite room features a private entrance, garden, and semi-open-air bath, offering a comfortable, quiet, and luxurious stay. The refined design, along with local artwork and crafts displayed in the room, reflects meticulous attention to detail and provided an opportunity to deeply connect with Kurashiki's culture. Dinner was a course meal made with seasonal local ingredients. Each dish was delicate and delicious, showcasing care even in the homemade salts and seasonings. A surprise dish from the chef during the course added an element of excitement to the evening. The server also suggested local sake pairings that perfectly complemented each dish, allowing us to enjoy a harmonious blend of Okayama cuisine and sake. After dinner, we relaxed at a serene wine bar where the sommelier introduced us to Okayama wines with great care. Breakfast featured small dishes made from seasonal ingredients paired with freshly cooked rice—an absolutely delightful start to the day. I look forward to visiting again in another season!

The outdoor bath was charming and added a nice touch, but the drainage in the shower room was very poor. It was unpleasant to have to step on leftover soap suds before entering the bathroom. While this might be common overseas, it is disappointing for an accommodation at this price point. I wonder if the cleaning staff noticed this issue or not? Everything else was excellent, so it’s unfortunate that this stood out as a negative point.

An Elegant Retreat in the Bikan Historical District

I visited with my wife and had been looking forward to it, but the room and meals exceeded our expectations, allowing us to fully enjoy our stay. During the sake tasting, we happened to meet another couple and had a great time together. We were seated next to them at dinner as well, which led to lively conversations and wonderful memories. The service was pleasant, making it a delightful accommodation where everyone smiled.

Enjoy exquisite cuisine in a comfortable atmosphere filled with a sense of history.

I stayed for one night in April, a pleasant time of the year. The accommodation had a charming atmosphere and an elegant room that left a strong impression. It was simple yet warm, with attention to detail and aesthetics throughout. The large bath in the room faced a small garden, allowing natural light to pour in, creating a beautiful ambiance both at night and in the morning. The carefully selected Japanese sweets, local beer, and coffee provided in the room reflected the thoughtful hospitality of this accommodation. Located very close to the Bikan Historical Quarter, I wished I could have stayed another night. Meals: Each dish at dinner was delicate and showcased local ingredients such as grilled items with regional flavors. There was also an extensive selection of local sake thoughtfully explained by attentive staff members. The chef was very friendly and passionate about their craft, using homemade soy sauce, ponzu sauce, salt, and more—all meticulously prepared. Breakfast featured rice cooked in an earthen pot that alone felt satisfying enough. Even the change of music between evening and morning added to the sense of care. Wine Bar: After dinner, I visited their bar which had a calm atmosphere with carefully curated wine selections. They even offered off-menu recommendations that made it feel like a special place worth visiting just for drinks if I lived nearby. The staff were incredibly kind; although finding parking was slightly challenging at first, they walked me through it personally which was very helpful. Overall, there was a perfect balance between privacy and warmth from everyone there that made my stay truly comfortable. I would love to visit again during another season!

The excellent location allowed us to enjoy a leisurely stroll around the Bikan Historical Quarter. It was a quiet and sophisticated space, and all the room amenities showed great attention to detail. The hangers were very impressive, but it would have been even better if there were sizes suitable for women as well. It might have been nice to also make a reservation for dinner and fully enjoy the time spent at the hotel. Since it was cold this time, I would like to stay again during a season when the trees are lush.

    The Best Accommodation in Kurashiki

The accommodation is located right next to the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter, blending seamlessly with the traditional townscape—I almost walked past it without noticing (laughs). The room features old beams, pillars, and a harmonious blend of plaster walls, creating a truly relaxing atmosphere. I had a peaceful stay, and at night, the garden's illumination combined with the plaster walls was exceptionally beautiful. The staff members are young but provided polite and friendly service with smiles. At the bar, I enjoyed hearing various stories about local sake. Additionally, the meals were absolutely outstanding—watching Chef Niimi prepare and plate dishes at the counter was both delightful to see and taste. I was thoroughly satisfied. I definitely want to return to enjoy this cuisine again. Thank you for such a wonderful time!

    It was a wonderful Hotel.

The hospitality of the staff was excellent, making it hard to believe that the facility has only been open for a few months. Above all, the head chef's cooking is superb. The broth is delicious. The greens are beautiful. The taro is tasty. Everything listed on the menu is naturally good. I felt like they were really working hard. However, in terms of facilities, it's a suite and yet only a few months old facility. I would like something done about the inconvenience of using the bath, the coldness of the shower room, and the coldness of Room itself. I am only grateful for how responsive and helpful the staff were.

    Beautiful Property

I visited Kurashiki from America for sightseeing. Everything about the Property is beautiful and sophisticated. The staff are friendly, and their service was excellent, allowing me to relax. It's a pity I could only stay for one night. Next time, I hope to stay for 2 or 3 nights to enjoy the meals and books in the library.

A culinary property that harmonizes luxury and a homely atmosphere.

I visited Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture with a friend, looking forward to staying at Yoruyasan. After walking from Kurashiki Station through the "Bikan District Chikamichi," we discovered the sign for Yoruyasan. As we nervously passed through the rope curtain at the entrance, a space unified in a modern Japanese style unfolded before us. Even the dishes prepared in our room had stories and dedication to products from Okayama Prefecture. Contrary to feeling tense in such a sophisticated atmosphere, there was an unexpected sense of comfort as if being at home. This mysterious experience of luxury and homeliness harmonizing may have been created by the warmth of the property, the warm service of its staff, and perhaps by regular guests who love Yoruyasan. I felt this strongly during dinner and breakfast times. Conversations involving chefs, staff members, and regular guests were enjoyable; delicious food paired with sake made happiness even more palpable. Thank you for providing such a wonderful emotional experience on this occasion.

    Kurashiki Sanctuary

【Room】 I was given an upgrade. Not only the design and spatial beauty of the room, but also the spaciousness, cleanliness, comfort of the bedding, and the abundance of amenities and minibar, everything is wonderful. The trees illuminated in the courtyard beyond the hallway, the high ceilings and beams that retain the tradition of the Meiji era. As soon as I entered the room, I felt a sense of comfort that naturally deepened my breathing. What I felt was unique to Yoruya was the approach from the guest room to the bathroom. From the room, you step outside and cross the courtyard to reach the bathroom area with a semi-open-air bath. There was an exciting feeling as if being invited to a different world, and the special feeling that you can have a twice-delicious experience in one night was unique to this place. 【Cuisine】 You can enjoy the seasonal ingredients, seafood, and local meats, beautifully presented in Okayama's beautiful folk art dishes. From appetizers to desserts, the volume is satisfying even for men, and there is a sense of value. I will definitely make a reservation with dinner included next time. The signature menu, a must-try, is the Okayama specialty demi-katsu arranged in Yoruya style. This time, winter ingredients were the main focus, but it became a favorite place that makes me want to visit again as the seasons change throughout spring, summer, autumn, and winter.

A culinary inn weaving the culture of Kurashiki

It was my first visit to Kurashiki, and during my stay, I was able to experience the rich history and culture of the area. As this is a Property known for its cuisine, the food was truly delicious, featuring seasonal ingredients grown locally, paired with special seasonings. The chef's warm personality also added to the experience, allowing me to spend a very pleasant time. This is a Property I would love to visit again to enjoy meals made with seasonal ingredients from a different time of year.

Stays in Kurashiki, rich in culture

After visiting the Kurashiki Folkcraft Museum, take a stroll along the river and pass through the noren curtain at just the right distance. Excitedly head to the room through a slightly maze-like front desk. The approach of going outside once and then heading to the room again is also exciting. The plaster walls inside the room have no corners, and the craftsmanship shines in their roundness. The walls covered with shoji and washi paper and various shades of white are comfortable. Dinner was also wonderful. The homemade soy sauce and carefully selected ingredients in the chef's dishes conveyed a sense of love. After returning to the room, I was able to enjoy a conversation with a friend and the tranquility. Breakfast was also beautiful, with a different impression from the night, and the steam from the rice was superb. The folkcraft shop recommended by the staff on the way back was also very impressive. The staff's pleasant smiles were also memorable. It was a property that made me think I would have more reasons to visit Kurashiki again.

    First Time in Kurashiki

I visited the yarn shop I found in a magazine a while ago. It was my first time visiting Kurashiki, but thanks to this Stays, I was able to discover many wonderful aspects of this area. The museums, folk art museums, and shops in the town were all very charming. The highlight was the food. Everything was delicious, and I felt a strong commitment to the ingredients and seasonings. The fish from the Seto Inland Sea was delicious, and the beef cutlet had a playful homage to local cuisine. I would like to visit again at a special time.

    In Kurashiki, Praise of Shadows

Staying in the beautiful Bikan District of Kurashiki. The soft welcome from the staff, just as you would imagine from a yarn shop, made me feel very calm. The sophisticated space design does not let the air of the historic building escape. Stayed in the "Kimono" suite room. There is a dedicated entrance gate only for "Kimono," which makes it feel more special. The courtyard is beautiful, and the bedroom windows are fitted with shoji screens. The lighting inside the store is dimly set, and the soft light from outside creates a space that feels simple yet luxurious, like a form of shadow appreciation. It is a beautiful room where you can feel the meticulousness of Japanese style in every detail. The spacious entrance and fresh flowers were very impressive. The room wear is very comfortable. The amenities are very well-equipped. There was not only a mirror in the washroom but also a tabletop mirror for makeup, which was appreciated. The meals are truly delicious. The wonderful dishes by the unique chef and the sake from Okayama were the best. I definitely want to use it again.

The Stays that Inspired a Visit to Kurashiki

I finally got to visit the property I happened to see in a magazine and was curious about. It's neither a ryokan nor a hotel, but it feels like it takes the best parts of both, and I really liked it. The food was also very delicious, and the chef's homemade salt and soy sauce were irresistibly tasty. I would like to visit again when the season changes.

    Before Completing the Reservation

    1. Room: Reserved a standard room. Upon arrival, I was asked with a triumphant smile, "We've upgraded you to a maisonette, is that alright?" My bad feeling was spot on. As soon as I entered the first-floor "entrance," a cold draft blew up to the open second floor, and the toilet and bath were all on the first floor. I felt despair at the thought of having to come down here every time I needed to use the toilet, bath, or change clothes. And that despair became a reality. There were two air conditioner controllers on the first floor, but I couldn't figure out where the vents were. In the end, I set both controllers to the maximum room temperature, but it didn't warm up at all! I seriously doubted if the controllers were just dummies attached to the wall. There was a constant draft from the entrance door. 2. Bathroom: The water temperature wouldn't rise. It might be fine in summer, but with a large marble-style bathtub, even if you fill it with 50-degree water, if you miss the timing, the water temperature drops rapidly. Initially, I filled the tub with water at the set temperature (without adding cold water), but it was so cold it felt like a cold bath (in that first-floor space, there was a glass-enclosed courtyard with a withered maple tree, which looked cold too). Eventually, I found the hot water controller, set the temperature to the maximum, and refilled the tub. However, the temperature probably didn't even reach 40 degrees, and as soon as I got out of the tub, my body got cold. It was barely tolerable to just soak and get out. Washing my hair was out of the question. 3. Washroom: No hot water!! For brushing teeth and washing my face in the morning, I had to fill a bath bucket with water from the aforementioned bathtub, which was at a temperature that seemed usable for washing my face, and carry it to the sink, shivering, to brush my teeth and wash my face. When I told my husband that there was no hot water in the washroom, he said, "If you leave it running for a long time, a little comes out." So, before going to the toilet next, I turned the washroom hot water to the maximum, went to the toilet (which was cold with no heating at the feet, really cold), and when I came out shivering, indeed, a trickle of slightly warm water was coming out, which I used to wash my hands after using the toilet. 4. Food: Ordinary or below the price. Not particularly delicious. There were many staff, but they were inefficient. The service was slow. The dining area was a counter that all the guests surrounded. What shocked me was when the chef, after serving sushi on a board to a customer on the other side, dropped the board on the floor. I thought, "Surely, they won't use it as is (even hairdressers don't use scissors that have fallen)," but they nonchalantly continued to make and serve the next sushi to another customer. Astonishing.

    It was an amazing St...

It was an amazing Stays that exceeded my imagination. I believe it is one of the few places where the original charm has been further enhanced by becoming a Property, from the level of utilizing and preserving historical places and buildings. The Room was lovely with some sand walls left intact, and the bed space designed with tatami was comfortable. I could spend time quietly as if time had stopped while gazing at the inner garden between the open-air bath in the Room. The dining area, while part of the Property, was an independent and vibrant space. The professionalism of the chefs and the dishes were both wonderful. The interior, as well as the views from various parts of the Property, were like natural paintings and were very soothing. In a time when "sophisticated luxury Hotels or Ryokans in good locations" started to feel the same, this Property had no sense of déjà vu in every aspect. The staff were warm and friendly, and I was delighted to encounter such a Stays after a long time. I definitely want to come back again. Thank you very much.
