    Authentic French Cuisine

    The restaurant served authentic French cuisine that was incredibly delicious. However, since it is a countryside accommodation, having separate facilities for the washroom and toilet might have made the stay more comfortable. Additionally, there is an onsen nearby where you can enjoy the sunset, so providing information about its closing days would have been even better.

    Beautiful Space

    This summer vacation, we visited the Dinosaur Museum, Maruoka Castle (one of the 12 original castle towers), and the historic city of Kanazawa with our first-grader. For a more traditional experience, we chose to stay at this accommodation in a renovated old house. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, by 8 PM there was hardly any traffic. The restaurant offered such exceptional cuisine that I would visit regularly if it were in Tokyo. The relaxed townscape and incredibly delicious meals provided a truly soothing experience. Although it wasn’t an Onsen due to being an old house, this accommodation was so wonderful that I couldn’t ask for more. They even provided children’s samue (traditional Japanese loungewear), which was very thoughtful. However, there were no toothbrushes for children available, and even nearby convenience stores didn’t carry them. It might be best to bring your own amenities for kids. Some may wonder about bringing children to an old house or fine French dining, but our child thoroughly enjoyed it! They wanted to stay another night and expressed interest in returning next year as well. The restaurant’s hospitality was outstanding with perfect timing for serving dishes. Our child said the corn soup surpassed that of Japan's renowned luxury hotels and raved about how delicious the hamburger sauce was too! After dinner, they enjoyed exploring the garden’s vegetable patch—a delightful experience overall. Both parent and child felt reluctant to leave; thank you so much for such a memorable stay!

    Delicious meals, evening dinner, morning Hotel-style breakfast, ingredients, and dishes are excellent. Renovated in a traditional Japanese house style with a fully equipped kitchen and washing machine; everything was perfect.

    Highly satisfied.

    We stayed for one night with two meals on Sunday evening as a couple. From the moment we checked in, the staff were friendly and guided us to the accommodation by leading our car. After a bit of sightseeing, we enjoyed a welcome drink at the front building. The sake was delicious, and we even visited one of their recommended spots the next day before heading home—thank you! The room was clean, well-equipped with all necessities, and very comfortable to stay in. And most importantly, the meals were something we had been looking forward to. We had an exquisite dining experience at a restaurant just a few minutes' walk from the accommodation. Every dish suited our taste perfectly, and my wife was extremely satisfied as well. Although there was some miscommunication about breakfast timing, it was incredibly delicious and felt gentle on the body—truly wonderful! They also took care to accommodate my wife's dietary preferences for breakfast based on what I had informed them beforehand; this thoughtful attention left us deeply impressed. Located not too far from Kyoto, this is such a lovely auberge that we'd love to visit again!

    Lovely

    It's amazing to find such a wonderful accommodation in Fukui. The staff were all kind and greatly appreciated. The only downside is that the accommodation was a bit hard to locate. The sofa under the stairs felt a little cramped, but everything else was perfect. I stayed with breakfast included. The breakfast was incredibly delicious and satisfying. There was a tiny bug in the salad... proof of freshness, but just slightly disappointing there. Still, it was an excellent accommodation overall! Thank you very much!

    A charming accommodation that blends perfectly with the town's scenery.

    I only had breakfast this time, but as expected, the dishes produced by Chef Yoshino were exceptional. Starting with a fresh vegetable salad and vegetable juice, it felt like a refreshing way to wake up. The buckwheat galette had an unexpected volume that exceeded its appearance. The pace and timing of the food service were perfect, and the staff promptly brought refills of juice with pleasant hospitality. The Room was also clean and well-maintained, allowing me to relax in the calm Japanese-modern style living area.

    Exceptional hospitality

    Thank you for preparing so many materials at check-in, even though I only wrote a little during the reservation process. They were very helpful as travel companions. The kitchen facilities were easy to use, and I was able to cook delicious Wakasa beef and gasa shrimp from Fukui. I was also delighted with the well-stocked drinks in the refrigerator (I've even been to collect water from Uriwari's famous spring). When I mentioned my plan to watch the sunset while being shown to my room, you kindly recommended a wonderful park where I could enjoy sightseeing quietly. Your subtle yet thoughtful provision of necessary information and services is truly commendable. While two-story townhouses are charming, this one-room setup was perfect for us seniors who might need access to the restroom at night (laughs). It was very convenient and user-friendly!

    The accommodation was in a carefully renovated traditional house, offering a serene atmosphere and natural warmth. The provided coffee and tea were delightful, and the attention to detail in amenities such as juice and alcohol was truly impressive. The hospitality of the staff was exceptional; everyone was courteous, warm, and maintained a comfortable level of interaction that left a lasting impression. It made me wonder if there has been any other accommodation recently that offered such pleasant service. My time at "Auberge Homachi" was truly a heartwarming experience. The cuisine was also outstanding. Every course was meticulously prepared, reflecting the essence of the season and the chef's dedication on each plate. Although it wasn’t one of Chef Yoshino’s scheduled days to be in the kitchen (as he only cooks twice a month), I felt incredibly fortunate to enjoy his dishes during my stay. To top it off, Chef Yoshino personally came out to greet us at the end, which added an extra layer of emotion to an already memorable experience. Not only were the dishes remarkable but also the beauty of the plates and tableware used captivated me—they seemed almost radiant with light, enhancing each dish like works of art on display. I stumbled upon this accommodation by chance on IKYU.com but have now found it to be an extraordinary place I would love to visit again someday. While its popularity may make reservations harder in the future, I am determined to return for another unforgettable stay. Thank you for creating such wonderful memories!

    The stay was inspired by the meals offered at this accommodation as it is an auberge. It would be even better if there were an onsen facility... Both the breakfast and dinner, along with the drinks, were highly satisfying, and I would love to visit again in a different season. I also loved the location of the accommodation, blending seamlessly into the old townscape. While exploring the surroundings, friendly locals kindly spoke to me and shared information about festivals and more, which made my trip even more enjoyable. Of course, the hospitality from all of the hotel staff was delightful as well. As a senior who often travels with friends focusing on food experiences, I’d like to consider this place for our next trip!

    During our trip around Fukui during Golden Week, we were intrigued by the name "Auberge" and made a reservation. The combination of the historic streets of Mikuni, known for its Kitamaebune shipping history, a renovated traditional house, and a restaurant by a renowned chef focusing on local ingredients felt refreshing. Our impression after staying was that it might be worth considering the restaurant and accommodation separately. While the traditional house has been renovated, its interior feels like an ordinary home with features such as a kitchen and washing machine, making it more suitable for extended stays. If you're looking for relaxation or an Onsen experience, simply dining at the restaurant could be another option. The restaurant itself is designed by connecting the traditional house with an old storehouse. We were guided to a room in the back that had been converted from this storehouse. The menu thoughtfully incorporated local ingredients paired beautifully with wines we selected—everything was delicious until the very end. One signature dish introduced to us was Fukui salmon—a rising star ingredient in this region perhaps? Having tasted it as sashimi and grilled fish just the day before, I felt its unique appeal was further enhanced through exquisite preparation here. After breakfast, we enjoyed strolling to Takidanji Temple to admire its gardens and national treasures. Following checkout, we participated in bonsai-making activities suggested by our accommodation—making for a short yet fulfilling trip. Thank you very much!

    The hospitality, restaurant, and room were all excellent. When staying as a family of four, we often choose a Japanese-Western style room, but decentralized accommodations are also enjoyable. The front building is equipped with sake tasting and a fully-equipped gym (my husband was doing strength training). "Kou no Ji" is located behind the restaurant, making it convenient even on rainy days! Grinding beans and enjoying coffee on the wooden deck added to the extraordinary experience.     I recently had leg surgery and found it difficult to walk, but the staff were very kind and made my stay enjoyable without any inconvenience. The Shuttle Service was frequent and extremely helpful. The guest room is slightly dim.

    Mikuni Minato: A historic cultural town that flourished with the Kitamaebune trade.

    I chose "Auberge Homachi Mikuni Minato," a place with townhouses scattered around, similar to NIPONIA accommodations, as I hadn't visited Fukui Prefecture in a while. At the front desk, I was handed a paper form. While avoiding contact is good, they guided me to the accommodation but did not explain the room, which felt somewhat impersonal and lacked hospitality. I usually choose a standard maisonette type of room, but this time I stayed in a townhouse called "Matsukawabishi." The bedroom, bathroom, toilet, and courtyard were on the first floor; however, it turned out to be very inconvenient. The sink area was narrow with no dressing space; if one person was using the bath downstairs, others had to stay upstairs. Although I chose it because both the bedroom and toilet were on the first floor—the bath was small and slippery with stones that hurt when stepped on. Dinner featured a French full-course meal utilizing fresh ingredients from Fukui Prefecture. Each dish came served on elegant French tableware that delighted both my eyes and palate. A female staff member kindly answered all my questions pleasantly—it felt great! Breakfast also offered health-conscious options with kind staff members providing excellent service. Before visiting, I researched extensively about Minato Town—many places are closed on Wednesdays—and found that Echizen Railway Mikuni Station's tourist information center is highly recommended for its helpfulness. On arrival day after receiving detailed guidance there: we visited Mikuni Shrine & Takidanji Temple before driving up towards Tojinbo Cliffs under clear skies where sparkling views over Japan Sea amazed us after such long absence! On Day 2: exploring retro streetscapes within Mikuni Minato allowed learning through materials about Kitamaebune shipping history alongside cultural exchanges among intellectuals back then—discovering how wetting “Mikuni Stone” reveals beautiful green hues scattered throughout town added charm too! Luckily caught sight of two-car train passing through twisted brick tunnel “Nejiri Manpo.” Though disappointed only one type available regarding sake buns yet enjoyed hearty delicious “Mikuni Burger.” Despite short trip duration managed efficient itinerary making most experiences fulfilling overall! Cherry blossom season had ended by return journey along highways amidst swirling petals resembling sakura blizzards—a memorable conclusion indeed!

    The reception, dining area, and accommodation are all in separate facilities, which was a bit confusing at first. At check-in, I expected a welcome drink and small treats as part of the hospitality for this class of accommodation. However, it was a self-service free drink style, which felt somewhat underwhelming from the start. The accommodation is a renovated standalone house with a simple and practical design that I found appealing. It was also very clean. If I had to mention something, the floors were cold; it would have been nice if socks were provided. Additionally, having a chair in the washroom for getting ready would have been convenient. The staff's service was excellent—very kind and satisfying overall. The atmosphere of the dining area was lovely, and the meals were beautifully prepared with great attention to detail. However, to be honest, there wasn’t anything particularly surprising about the taste. The use of plenty of local ingredients was definitely appreciated. Breakfast was delicious as well but followed an unusual style where each dish—salad, juice, yogurt, bread, soup—was served one by one only after finishing the previous plate completely. Coffee came last on the menu list; eventually I had to ask for coffee earlier because waiting became frustrating. For breakfast at least, I'd prefer eating at my own pace. The town itself has a quaint yet charming atmosphere with historical appeal. Volunteer guides enthusiastically shared detailed stories about Mikuni’s history as a prosperous port town during its Kitamaebune era—it was fascinating. Overall it’s an excellent place for enjoying good food and warm hospitality while taking a short trip away from daily life. Thank you very much!

    Accommodation I Want to Visit Again

    Thank you for bringing a thermometer when my husband felt unwell, and also for kindly providing an ice pack. Thanks to your help, his temperature returned to normal by morning. During breakfast, we were seated near the kitchen, and there was a loud noise of dough being slapped repeatedly, which left us puzzled. We wondered if it could have waited until after guests had left. Next time, we would like to try staying in a different Room. Thank you very much!

Upon entering the room, you'll be amazed by how the original traditional elements are preserved while ensuring a comfortable and stylish design—it exudes impeccable taste. The French cuisine at the auberge is delicious, and the staff are friendly and attentive. The restaurant building itself is beautifully designed, making for an enjoyable experience throughout your stay. Exploring the town is equally delightful; the way this accommodation integrates seamlessly with its surroundings is truly impressive. This level of creativity and design seems impossible to replicate elsewhere—it's simply extraordinary!

    Family Trip to Fukui

    The accommodation we stayed in this time was the "Bishamon" building. While I have previously experienced stays at NIPPONIA series accommodations, compared to those, this accommodation felt more like a modern and stylishly designed space rather than a traditional old-style house. The presence of both a low table and a regular table allowed for flexible relaxation depending on the purpose, which was convenient. The kitchen was fully equipped with sufficient cutlery; however, if you choose a plan that includes breakfast and dinner, you might not have much opportunity to use it. The refrigerator was stocked with craft beer, shochu highballs, water, and tea. However, my family mentioned that having options like orange juice or apple juice would have been better. Indeed, having more variety in juices would be appreciated. The bathroom had a bright design with natural light coming in; however, due to the slightly high position of the windows, it was somewhat difficult to enjoy the outside view while soaking in the bath. Additionally, since the toilet and sink area were located within the same space, their overlapping usage paths made it slightly inconvenient. Regarding the attached restaurant's dress code labeled as "smart casual," there were guests wearing jeans as well—giving an impression of unclear standards. The meal consisted of an upscale French course (focused on crab dishes) priced at approximately 40,000 yen but honestly did not leave as strong an impression as expected (though it may hold value for those who prioritize Chef Yoshino Ken’s reputation). Service quality matched that of typical French restaurants; however, I noticed slight concerns regarding staff grooming (particularly scents) not being considerate enough towards guests. One delightful aspect was being able to enjoy sake tasting as part of their welcome drink service (no snacks were provided). That said—my family thoroughly enjoyed themselves overall!

    The best French cuisine

    I visited with high expectations due to the chef's impressive background, and I was extremely satisfied with the excellent dinner. The nine small dishes, each beautifully crafted to bring out the flavors of the ingredients, reflected the chef's dedication. I enjoyed them with pairing wine, which offered good cost-for-value and was satisfying. The room was comfortably designed, making it hard to believe it was a renovated old house. However, it didn't feel like staying in an old folk house, so it might not suit fans of traditional houses. The town of Mikuni retained the charm of its former days. I would like to visit again in a different season.

    Please install a device that can adjust the brightness in the middle of the Room. Since the outside can pass through to the entrance, security is a concern. I want to install an air purifier in the middle of the Room, but there is no outlet.

    It was a nice Stays, but

    In anticipation of the crab season opening, I was looking forward to combining it with golf and decided on this property, which seemed to have a good atmosphere despite being in a lower price range. When confirming at the time of reservation, I was informed that during the first week of the opening, the boats would not be going out, and it was uncertain whether crabs would be available on the day. Therefore, I made a reservation for a regular course without making an advance card payment. Upon reconfirming a week prior, I was told to complete the payment for the regular course for the time being, and if crabs were available, I could pay the difference on the day. So, I conveyed, "Please prepare crabs if the boats go out," and completed the advance payment. Upon arriving at the property on the day, when I checked if the boats had gone out and tried to pay the difference, I was informed, "This course requires an advance reservation, so we have not prepared crabs." I showed the call history and explained, "I discussed this on this day as well. Your hotel staff said so. If crabs are available, please prepare them, and I will settle other costs," but was told that while others had it, we did not, so it was impossible. Despite looking forward to the opening of Echizen crabs and visiting right after the opening of the crab town Mikuni, where events like the Mikuni Minato Crab Festival are held, seeing this situation made me realize that properties in this price range are just like this. Although there was an apology from the front desk at the time, it was only natural that no one visited to apologize afterward, nor was there anything else. The bath is difficult for large men to enter, and although everything is cheap, it has a great charm, and regarding the furnishings, it was very lovely, considering the price range. Moreover, the cuisine was wonderful, and the prices of alcoholic beverages and wines were reasonable, leaving a good impression along with the taste. In fact, it was the most expensive room, but considering the price, it is not surprising that high ratings are lined up for this property.

    The food was very delicious. The combination of ingredients in each dish was exquisite, and the presentation was beautiful, leaving me very satisfied. The ice cream from Kikaijima was too sweet for me. The next dessert was also sweet, so it would have been nice if it had a refreshing sweetness. The two-part system was not very good. I couldn't make it in time for the 17:30 session, so I chose the 20:00 session, but it felt too late. I got too hungry, and the end time was close to 22:00. The room's toilet was not separate and was together with the washroom, which was inconvenient. The room lighting was dim. As I get older, I can't see well in dim places, so it was very inconvenient. I was pleased with the drink service in the refrigerator. Since it was raining, I was grateful for the shuttle service to the restaurant. The surrounding roads are very narrow. This time, I was fine with a small rental car, but if I had gone with my own car, I would have been nervous.

    Wonderful service

    I stayed on 10/18. The room was very clean and stylish! I have no complaints. I was pleased with the service of being able to freely use the washing machine with a drying function. (Detergent and fabric softener were also available.) The dinner courses were all visually beautiful and delicious. All the staff were kind, but the lady in the hall had a wonderful smile and left a great impression. I would like you to convey this to her. Thank you very much. I would like to visit again if I have the opportunity to go to Fukui!

    It was quite good.

    Thank you very much for your hospitality. The meals and the Room were even better than we expected. All of the staff were very kind, which made us very happy. We chose this Room after checking the floor plan, so we really appreciated that the floor plan was available. Next time, we will bring our grandchildren with us.
