    We had a great time.

    This was my first stay in five months. Last time I visited with my wife, and this time I stayed with friends from Fukui and Ishikawa. (Only one of us stayed overnight, while several joined for the meal, so dinner was booked separately.) I had dinner with my friends, and the summer course was beautifully prepared dish by dish—everything was delicious. It was a wonderful time catching up with friends after so long. The staff’s explanations of each dish also enhanced the flavors and added a nice touch to the dining experience. Thank you as well to the front desk team for your courteous assistance. The Shuttle Service to the restaurant in the rain was truly appreciated. We’ll be back again.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    We stayed here as a summer vacation trip with two elementary-school children. We visited the Shibamasa pool, Tojinbo, Echizen Matsushima Aquarium, and even took a short trip into Ishikawa Prefecture for a Kutani ware painting experience. The location is very convenient, and with the sea nearby and Sun Beach close by, we were able to relax and watch the sunset—an especially great highlight. The Room also had a washing machine, so we could do laundry each day during our stay and finish everything before heading home, which made things much easier after returning. The Room was very clean and spacious, and our family of four could relax comfortably. There were two rooms as well, so we could sleep separately and use the space generously. A 4–5 minute taxi ride—or a short drive—takes you to a variety of nearby restaurants such as sushi, Italian, and yakitori. There are also Italian and French restaurants partnered with the Accommodation. Depending on your children’s ages, choosing your own dinner options with a flexible plan may be ideal. There is parking right next to the property, and you can pull up to the entrance to load and unload luggage easily, making everything very comfortable.

    The welcome drink service included options such as sake and plum juice, and the Room’s beautiful interior created a special, out-of-the-ordinary atmosphere. In particular, the breakfast was of exceptionally high quality, with some menu items that were on par with a main dish at dinner.

    The meals at the res...

    The meals at the restaurant were wonderful and delicious both at dinner and breakfast! The Room was also clean and comfortable. It seems our Room could be made into a connecting room, so when a family group checked into the neighboring Room, we were slightly bothered by voices and noise, but it soon settled down. The staff were also very courteous. Thank you very much.

    I had a very satisfy...

    I had a very satisfying stay at this Accommodation. At check-in, local sake was served as a welcome drink, and I also enjoyed tasting different varieties inside the property afterward. I found a favorite label and bought some as a souvenir for myself, which became a great memory. All of the staff were consistently polite and kind, making my stay very comfortable. The Room also had a wonderful atmosphere—an inviting space that blended beautifully with the historic townscape. One small issue was that there was a slight odor left inside the washing machine, so I chose not to use it. If this is improved, it would make the stay even more comfortable. After returning home, I realized I had forgotten my face towel and contacted them; they handled it very courteously. It arrived safely—thank you very much. This was a lovely Accommodation where you can truly feel thoughtful hospitality. I would like to stay here again when visiting Mikuni.

    A residential Hotel that blends into the town

    Thank you very much for your hospitality. ●What we liked - Thank you for kindly letting us use the parking lot even though we arrived early. We truly appreciated your courteous support. - Every staff member was wonderful. - At the front building, complimentary local sake and other drinks are available. - Our Room was in a renovated storehouse, and it had been beautifully refurbished. - With a kitchen and washing machine, it seems ideal for longer stays as well. - It blended nicely into the townscape of Mikuni Minato and felt very charming. - Dinner at Tateru Yoshino had a great atmosphere, and the Bernardo lamp was lovely. ●What concerned us - As an IKYU Diamond member benefit, late check-out and one complimentary drink at dinner were included. However, there was no guidance about late check-out. Also, regarding the dinner drink benefit, we were told that one glass of dessert wine would be provided. Since we had ordered beer, we wondered whether that beer should have been covered instead. - There were bowls in the Room, but we could not find chopsticks. There was a wine opener, but no wine glasses. - At Tateru Yoshino during standby time, one staff member had one foot up on the counter step area, which stood out to us. - Some of the service staff at Tateru Yoshino seemed inexperienced and their explanations felt hesitant—perhaps because it had just switched to the summer menu that day? - The cuisine was authentic French; preferences may vary significantly depending on taste.

    A great-value Michelin Key property.

    I have stayed here several times since my first visit on opening day, and each time I enjoy a truly comfortable and relaxing stay. After each visit, I somehow feel healthier, as if both my mind and body have been restored. Not only the building and the food, but also the warm hospitality of everyone who works here—and the space where you can feel the history and character of Mikuni Minato—are major attractions. I hope more people will come to know how wonderful this place is. I would love to visit again.

    After the Feast at Mikuni Port Amid Cherry Blossoms in Leaf

    I approached from the Mikuni Station area by private car, but could not find the front building where the car navigation indicated. Even asking nearby residents didn’t help. When I called from the car, a staff member came out to meet me. All staff were polite and kind. I was offered a drink at reception, then completed payment and check-in. Following a staff member on a bicycle, I drove past the restaurant and moved my car to an easy-to-park lot by the Accommodation building. There was careful orientation both at reception and in the Room, and it took just under 30 minutes before everything felt settled. From the outside it looks like an old townhouse that could easily become abandoned if left as is. The entrance with a noren curtain is narrow, almost like a back door. But once inside with the electronic lock, it’s surprisingly spacious, comfortable, clean, and even has that “newly built” scent. The furniture and interior are modern, while older fittings are used beautifully as well. There’s also a calm little garden. The bath was clean. You can relax while looking out at the small garden and stretch out comfortably. It took about 20 minutes to fill the tub, and reheating isn’t available. The craft beer in the refrigerator was excellent. I walked along an easy route to the restaurant, checking the points noted in the brochure along the way, and arrived quickly. Even in cold weather or rain (umbrellas are available at the Accommodation building), it’s not an inconvenient distance. Dinner was gourmet cuisine exactly as expected, with a great atmosphere. The staff have good manners and communicate well. Although there seemed to be many guests dining there, it was quiet. Additional items such as drinks are paid for at the restaurant. After dinner I walked along well-lit streets back to reception for another drink or two, then strolled back to my Accommodation building. The Room lighting is on the dim side. The stairs up to the second-floor bedroom felt somewhat narrow and steep even while holding onto something (understandable since it was originally a private home). The bed is large; bedding and loungewear were clean; air conditioning works very well. Breakfast was served at another table in same restaurant—another gourmet course meal in morning as well—and there was plenty of food. As with dinner service they saw me off outside again. Checkout can be completed simply by calling reception from your Accommodation building.

    A Stay in a Traditional Japanese House and an Exquisite French Dining Experience

    On my first visit to Fukui, I stayed in Mikuni Port, which once prospered through Kitamaebune trading ships. It is a very quiet town now, but throughout the streets I could still sense traces of its prosperous past. The staff kindly picked us up by car at Awaraonsen Station, where the Shinkansen stops, and we arrived at the Hotel while learning all sorts of things about Fukui along the way. In the lobby, there were paintings depicting many Kitamaebune ships and displays of Fukui crafts. While fully soaking in Mikuni’s atmosphere, we were given detailed recommendations on what to see around town. I was also happy that sake was offered as a welcome drink. Our Room retained the charm of a traditional townhouse while being renovated for comfort. Between looking out over the small courtyard and taking walks around town, we were able to relax as if living there—even though it was only one night. The French dinner not only used local ingredients generously, but was also delicate and beautiful; I was impressed from start to finish. We chose the wine pairing course—my husband had five glasses and I had four—and every one matched perfectly with the food. It was also fun to take an evening stroll through town after dinner before returning to our Room. Breakfast, of course, was completely satisfying as well. It was a flawless stay overall, but having few power outlets in our first-floor Room made charging devices slightly inconvenient. We would love to visit again.

    I stayed on the trial Plan. Upon arrival, the front desk staff were extremely courteous and kindly gave me an easy-to-understand brochure on how to spend time in Mikuni, explaining everything with great care. They also lent me an electric rental bicycle, which allowed me to fully enjoy Mikuni without any inconvenience. Thanks to all the thoughtful attention, I was able to make wonderful memories. I first visited Mikuni a few years ago and wanted to feel its charm again, so I stopped by on a whim. I was happy to see that many things in Mikuni have not changed. In particular, one morning I borrowed a bicycle and rode up a steep hill to the café I had been aiming for; on the way back, at an art museum I stopped by, I felt signs of summer already in the grass below—an unforgettable moment.

    Overflowing hospitality

    Thanks to the wonderful staff, we had a fantastic experience. We truly connected with the concept of renovating vacant houses into guest rooms, and it has brought a touch of vibrancy back to Mikuni, which had felt quite quiet and run-down. The restaurant is top-class, and every dish in the course menu amazed us. We were even moved by the restaurant staff’s knowledge and hospitality. We’re already looking forward to visiting again in winter.

    We stayed to celebrate a birthday. They added a “Happy Birthday” message to the dessert plate, provided Shuttle Service between our Room and the restaurant multiple times, and arranged a taxi for us... In every situation, we received wonderfully warm and comfortable hospitality.

    The food and service were excellent.

    I stayed one night at Omiwa. It was a wonderful auberge with a lovely concept that combines a machiya-style Accommodation with a French restaurant that makes the most of local ingredients. Everyone on the staff, starting with the front desk team, was very kind and made my stay enjoyable. The local sake served as a welcome drink was delicious—I ended up drinking too much! The meals at Tateru Yoshino Mikuni Minato were outstanding both for dinner and breakfast. In particular, the morel mushroom farce and white asparagus composition, lightly cooked Fukui salmon, Potage Garbure, buckwheat galette, and more were all excellent. The Accommodation was clean and had a great atmosphere, but I would have liked a coat rack on the first floor. If I’m being picky, it would also have been nice to have a sofa. Also, I think it would be even better if there were something like a handwritten map with information such as opening hours for nearby sweets shops within walking distance (uguisu mochi, sake manju, etc.) and local historic sites, or materials introducing annual regional events and traditions in multiple languages—something stylish yet with a handmade touch.

    If there were an Accommodation like this, I’d want to move to Fukui Prefecture.

    After checking in at the front office, which used to be an NTT West Japan building, we were led by a staff member’s car to the Accommodation building along the Takeda River. The renovated former townhouse is long and narrow, making it quite unique. The Room we were shown was the closest to the Takeda River, with a wonderful river view from the wooden deck. In front of the deck is a charming bathroom with a bathtub, and there is also a bed in the living area. Dinner was a full French course at “Tateru Yoshino Mikuni Minato,” about 10 minutes away from our Room. Some gourmet sites seem to rate it poorly, but we give it five stars—it’s an outstanding restaurant in terms of atmosphere, service, and taste. Now for the dinner menu: “Chilled Borscht”: the vivid beet red immediately catches your eye and takes you into Tateru Yoshino’s world in one sip. “Heshiko and Ishikawa Koimo Brochette”: the heshiko paste is salty but delicious. “Sweet Shrimp and Itawakame”: perhaps the wakame flavor was a bit too strong. “Echizen Soba with Koshino Ruby Coulis—A Trio of Caviar, Karasumi, and Mint”: an exquisite balance between soba aroma and Koshino Ruby tomato acidity. When mixed together, many textures and flavors merge like a waltz. “Bouillabaisse-Style Broth with Foie Gras Floating on Top”: not overly intense as bouillabaisse; vermouth ties everything together nicely. “Morel Mushroom Farci and French White Asparagus Composition—Harmony of Sweet-Shrimp-Scented Foam”: a long name, but this pairing of morels and asparagus is superb. “Lightly Smoked Fukui Salmon Mi-Cuit”: another specialty—truly impressive. “Roasted Venison with Sauce Grand Veneur”: rich flavor spreads through your mouth from lean meat with great depth. “Grilled Wakasa Beef Ichibo”: well-balanced lean meat and fat; even better when coated with sauce bordelaise. “Crème Brûlée Fine”: perhaps different from standard crème brûlée? “Strawberry Mille-Feuille”: beautiful red patterns on top. For drinks this time we chose wine pairing matched to each dish: 5 glasses for ¥9,500. Each glass was poured generously—excellent value (especially the first Champagne, Deutz; in Tokyo one glass would likely cost around ¥3,000). Skipping details about breakfast here. Overall, this Accommodation offers more than enough reason to make the trip to Mikuni Minato—Accommodation quality, dining experience, relaxation, scenery, and a strong sense of season all come together beautifully here.”

    A Wonderful Auberge

    At the front desk upon arrival, we enjoyed a welcome drink such as local Fukui sake and a plum drink, and the Room was so relaxing it felt like staying at home. The kettle, hair dryer, and other amenities provided were also the latest models, making our stay very comfortable. The main dinner truly lived up to Mr. Yoshino’s restaurant—everything from the appetizers to dessert was exciting and absolutely delicious. We felt it would be even better if there were an Onsen to soothe our bodies after a long drive.

    I stay here every ye...

    I stay here every year. This was my third visit, and for the first time I invited my daughter and her husband to stay with me. The Mikuni-Minato area is a quiet sightseeing spot, so it’s relaxing and not tiring like crowded places can be. We also went a bit farther to enjoy the scenic Sea of Japan. I look forward to the Fukui salmon at the restaurant every time, and my daughters enjoyed it as well.

    This was my first stay. I stayed mainly for the meals, and overall I was very satisfied. Dinner was a French course featuring crab. Every dish was delicious; in particular, instead of my usual ponzu, I enjoyed the crab with French sauces. The crab risotto was also excellent. Breakfast was a tasty course centered around galettes, but it was disappointing that there was no fruit. I would like to visit again.

    It became the best memory.

    The experience was already moving even before we arrived at the auberge. They remembered a casual conversation from the car ride to pick us up, stopped by the famous local sweets shop we mentioned, and even took us to a public bath fed by the Awara Onsen source. They also kindly came all the way to pick us up when we missed our train back from the bathhouse. The thoughtful care and warmth of both wonderful hosts truly touched our hearts. It made us realize what true hospitality really is. Dinner was absolutely outstanding. The chef—whom we had previously encountered twice at a Hotel in Kitashinchi—did not disappoint; every dish was exquisite. Each plate was beautiful, delicate, and unforgettable in flavor. This time we chose the five-glass pairing and enjoyed champagne, rosé, white wine, red wine, and sake. Conversation with the sommelier (one of our hosts) was also a delight, and every drink complemented the food perfectly—pairings that made us genuinely think, “This is delicious.” We are simply grateful for such a deeply fulfilling time. This is a special auberge that we will definitely return to and wholeheartedly recommend to loved ones. If I could make one request: in the private villa-style Room, the toilet is located right next to the sink. It may be unavoidable due to the layout, but it did require a bit of consideration for privacy. If there is any room for improvement in the future, it would make the stay even more comfortable. Even so, nothing can diminish how moving this stay was. Thank you very much. A friend has already made a Reservation for May. Please give my friend and their spouse an equally unforgettable experience again.

    It was a very attent...

    It was a very attentive and well-run auberge. The staff were wonderful, and of course the meals were excellent as well. If I had to mention anything, it’s just a personal preference, but I think I could have relaxed even more if there had been bathrobes. Also, I would be happy if there were hooks in the washroom to hang bath towels and similar items. Thank you very much—hopefully again someday.

    Excellent

    We visited on New Year's Eve. The Room, meals, and the staff's hospitality were all excellent, allowing us to enjoy a relaxing and leisurely transition into the new year. Dinner was French cuisine. Although we usually prefer Japanese food due to our age, it was incredibly delicious—especially the spinach-wrapped foie gras and roasted venison, which were exceptional! We would love to visit again if we have the chance. Thank you very much!

    The New Charms of Sangoku

    A trip for two with a friend. From the planning stage, we received great support with volunteer guides and taxi arrangements. The dishes were completely different from what we imagined based on the menu descriptions, offering delightful surprises with their fresh preparation methods. The room was very comfortable, and I truly feel it was a great decision to stay at this accommodation in Homachi.

    Everything about this accommodation was excellent. The food and the room were wonderful, but above all, the staff were kind, and their attentive hospitality was outstanding. With Netflix available, I could relax and enjoy my time in the comfortable room. It’s an accommodation that makes me want to visit again.

    Decentralized Accommodation in a Port Town

    I visited expecting a hotel run by the entire town, as suggested by the title. However, arriving on the afternoon of a public holiday at the end of a long weekend, the area was quiet with only a few shops open, which made it feel less lively and slightly lonely. That said, the hotel staff at check-in were very welcoming and I enjoyed a unique Japanese sake welcome drink. The facility includes a gym, and my room was equipped with an impressive kitchen and laundry facilities. It seems ideal for longer stays with multiple people, using it as a base to explore nearby areas by car. Additionally, while I had high expectations for this renovated traditional house-style hotel, although the unseen structure might be old, all visible parts were new. This left me feeling slightly underwhelmed. However, for those prioritizing cleanliness and convenience, this would not be an issue at all.

    Feel like a mini relocation

    Rent a car at Komatsu Airport after arriving from Tokyo, visit Eiheiji Temple and Ichijodani before checking in. At the front desk on the 1st floor of the building, follow the lead car to your accommodation. Explore interesting spots in town and park in front of a retro-style house that has been intricately designed. The accommodation is uniquely nestled among other houses in town, giving it a one-of-a-kind charm. Walking around town was enjoyable, offering glimpses into local life with various charming shops scattered throughout. The atmosphere was serene and peaceful. Walking to and from restaurants through this picturesque town was an exceptional experience. At night, enjoy the illuminated museum on the mountain restored from a Meiji-era building. The next day, explore coastal areas before returning your rental car at Komatsu Airport and taking a limousine bus to Kanazawa. It was truly an extraordinary experience!

    Enjoy Your Meal

    The meals, enjoyed at a leisurely pace, were all truly delicious. The bed was spacious and comfortable. After breakfast, we could take a relaxing stroll through the streets of Mikuni. Choosing this accommodation for the final day of our Toyama trip was absolutely the right decision. I personally recommend staying here with meals included for a relaxing experience!

    The Room was excellent.

    The room and the front desk staff were excellent. It was my first time staying at this type of accommodation, but going out for meals felt a bit inconvenient. Additionally, with the smart casual dress code, bringing an extra outfit seemed unnecessary. Recently, I've been into auberges and usually have French cuisine on either the first or second night. This time, it was a standard French course; the taste was average and lacked uniqueness, which was disappointing. Breakfast was also ordinary. Having to change clothes just to go felt like an extra hassle. While it's not necessary for chefs to come out personally, this was my first experience at a French restaurant without a chef's greeting—it might just be how it is here. The room itself was fantastic; however, the sink area, toilet, and bath are combined in one space. A deodorizing spray in the toilet would be reassuring as a courtesy for the next user.

    The restaurant served authentic French cuisine that was incredibly delicious. However, since it is a countryside accommodation, having separate facilities for the washroom and toilet might have made the stay more comfortable. Additionally, there is an onsen nearby where you can enjoy the sunset, so providing information about its closing days would have been even better.
