I often feel stressed overall.

This was my second stay since it became Grand Mercure, after staying more than 10 times back when it was Yatsugatake Royal. Last time I stayed in a standard Room, and that floor had not been renovated—it felt old, with stained carpets and wallpaper, and even torn sliding doors—so I was very disappointed. This time I chose an Executive Floor Room. The Room itself had been renovated and felt more like a city Business Hotel, but amenities that used to be provided (lotion, drip coffee, mineral water) were not available even in the Executive Room. In name only, it didn’t feel “executive” at all—honestly the Facility level felt like a Business Hotel or even below. Regarding the drip coffee, I asked at the front desk just in case, but no one could answer immediately and I had to wait for a response. They even suggested I go buy it at the nearby 7-Eleven. In the end they brought some to my Room (for some reason decaf), but their attitude felt impersonal and reluctant rather than thoughtful. Even at check-in/check-out there were times with no staff despite this being a large Hotel; when I went to a counter where someone was present, I was told “Please wait—we will call you,” which didn’t leave a good first impression. The lounge experience also felt underwhelming in many ways. There is an Executive Lounge and a regular lounge, but again it felt “executive” in name only—the offerings seemed fairly standard. The Executive Lounge was almost full most of the time; if anything, the regular lounge had more open seating and felt more relaxed. Since I booked an Executive Room I could use the Executive Lounge as well, but because it sits right next to the regular lounge—in an area beside reception where guests from both sides pass back and forth—I honestly felt this way of creating “tiers” leaves neither side with a good impression. Also, access to the lounge is limited to specific hours. In the morning I wanted to have coffee while reading the newspaper, but you can’t even enter during that time. It made me wonder whether this is truly all-inclusive; it felt inconvenient and restrictive. For a resort-area Hotel overall it came across as business-hotel-like—or worse—in its mechanical feel, which was disappointing.
