Impressed by the luxurious spa and excellent complimentary services! A perfect Accommodation once the details are refined.

The spacious Room felt high-quality throughout, and the amenities and comfortable in-room bath made it a very satisfying space. However, I noticed a few housekeeping concerns—such as cobwebs above the mirror, some fallen hair, and slow drainage in the in-room bath—so I’m sharing this with hopes for improvement. The Facility offerings are extremely well-equipped and full of appeal. The spa on the 4th floor was refined and relaxing, and having a beer server in the pool and sauna area felt especially luxurious. I also appreciated being able to use high-performance massage chairs free of charge in the relaxation room. In addition, the spacious lounge allowed us to enjoy snacks, bite-sized sweets, and complimentary drinks including alcohol without hesitation, making for a wonderful time. On the other hand, when moving to the large public bath on the 2nd floor after using the spa to rinse off chlorine, I found the changing-route flow slightly inconvenient. If it is acceptable to take the elevator while wearing something like a sauna poncho, advance guidance would make things smoother. (That said, since the large public bath itself felt somewhat old-fashioned to me personally, I would recommend mainly enjoying the in-room bath.) As for dining, it was flawless quality-wise; even at dinner time there was an excellent selection of complimentary drinks, which left me very satisfied. Because this Accommodation has such outstanding potential overall, addressing these small details could make for an even more perfect stay. I look forward to seeing further improvements on my next visit.

    Room bathroom

I have stayed here many times, and each time I feel the shower pressure is too weak. It takes a long time to wash my hair, and I end up tired—making me wonder what the Onsen is for. Since most Hotels now use stronger showerheads, I would like to see this improved. Also, the vanity area has only indirect lighting. Even one small direct light would help with makeup, as it’s too shadowy to do properly.

    Comfortable Rooms and Amenities

The Onsen is the main highlight, and with a full range of comfortable amenities, I was able to enjoy a truly fulfilling day. After working up a sweat at the gym, I played a little table tennis and felt like a kid again. The sauna is spacious and made of wood, and there is also a mist sauna—I did five rounds in total. To finish, I relaxed in the shallow pool and took a break with a draft beer. The large public bath left me feeling refreshed.

I was really looking forward to the infinity spa, but…

Although the typhoon kept the outside temperature from getting very high, I was told at check-in that the SPA water temperature has been set to 30°C since June. I usually make a Reservation with meals, but this time I chose No Meals Included so I could fully enjoy the spa (as officially recommended). After check-in, I used the lounge, but there were only a few chilled snacks and they were not replenished. I left early and went to the spa I had been looking forward to, but 30°C felt cold—once you get in, it’s hard to get out. Even if you want to experience the infinity spa by the lake, when the wind blows outside it’s cold enough to make you shiver. It says: “You can enjoy Takeo Onsen at our lakeside infinity spa and across our indoor and outdoor spa floors. A swimsuit-friendly onsen style unique to Urari Takeo Garden Terrace Spa Resorts.” But does the spa not use Onsen water? The Onsen bath in my Room was extremely hot… Rather than fixing it at 30°C from June onward, I wish you would return it to 35°C as before. This stay was very disappointing.

A family trip to celebrate a hospital discharge

We stayed here with two families on this trip. It was a trip to celebrate my mother’s discharge from the hospital. Because she has trouble walking and the weather was bad, she wasn’t looking forward to it until the day before, but she was glad we came and was very satisfied. This was my third stay, and I was a little worried about the half-board plan, but the meals and portions were more than satisfying for my mother and the others. There were also some improvements, such as complimentary drinks at dinner. Thank you for your help and for responding each time we needed assistance.

A family trip to celebrate a hospital discharge

The meals were delicious, the massages were great, and it was a very satisfying Hotel overall. I’d like to visit again with friends, but they mentioned that for older guests, it would be better if the layout were less maze-like and easier to navigate.

    Thank you for your support.

This was my first visit. The entire property felt spacious and relaxing, and both the Room and the lounge were very roomy. I also appreciated that they accommodated my food allergies. However, perhaps because my menu differed from others, it was disappointing that some staff were unable to explain the dishes. The large public bath is spacious with a retro atmosphere, and plenty of towels are provided. The Room also has an Onsen bath, which I enjoyed many times. The lounge offered a wide variety of drinks and food, which was great. One disappointing moment was when I happened to be there at the same time as a young couple and the woman was lying completely down on the sofa. Since it is a public space with many guests coming and going, it felt inappropriate.

    We stayed as a group...

We stayed as a group of four: a couple, one child (elementary school age), and my mother-in-law. This was one night of our 12-night trip around Kyushu. Our Room was a Hollywood twin, and they laid out futons for two people in the tatami area. ●Location A quiet setting by a pond, just a few minutes by car from the Takeo Onsen area. There’s nothing nearby, so this is very much an Hotel where you mainly spend your time on-site. ●Guest Room With a large sofa, a spacious bath, twin beds, and a tatami area, the layout feels very generous. It’s said to be 60 m², but it felt even larger than that. Overall it has an upscale feel and offers comfort that matches the price. ●Shared facilities The swimsuit spa, large public bath, complimentary drink lounge, massage chair area, fitness room, sauna(s), meditation space—everything is extremely well equipped. Honestly, one night isn’t enough to enjoy it all. The swimsuit spa in particular is divided into three sections and feels almost semi-private in each area—very luxurious. Personally it reminded me of Amanemu in Shima. There are also two types of saunas, which makes the facilities especially strong. The complimentary lounge had a wide variety of drinks as well; we used it many times during our stay. Judging by how full the parking lot was, I think it was close to fully booked that day—but because the shared spaces are quite large relative to the number of Rooms, nowhere felt crowded. It was impressive how calm and relaxing everything remained. This Hotel has been fully renovated overall; however, the large public bath seems to retain more of its previous atmosphere compared with other areas. That said, since the in-room bath is very large and comfortable, I’d personally recommend mainly using the Room bath. ●Dining Dinner was a Japanese course meal served in a private room; breakfast was also a set menu in the same private room. Because adults and elementary-school children were served essentially the same menu content-wise (portion sizes aside), it felt slightly too adult-oriented for our daughter—but for adults it’s high-quality Japanese cuisine. The shabu-shabu meat and Saga rice cooked in an earthenware pot were both excellent. The only minor point was that breakfast drinks were basically limited to tea options only—there wasn’t much variety. ●Service There’s also a welcome drink plus complimentary drinks in the refrigerator inside your Room; service throughout was polite and attentive. ●Overall satisfaction It isn’t cheap—but among our 12 nights on this trip، this Hotel ranked near the top for satisfaction. I’ve also stayed at other Garden Terrace Hotels properties in Fukuoka and Nagasaki، and they’re consistently high quality۔ Next time، I may try another one as well۔

    It was excellent.

I couldn’t relax much during my previous stay, but this time—since it was also my husband’s birthday—I arrived late for check-in, and still had a wonderful time. Thank you so much for preparing sparkling wine in our Room as well. I sometimes use your Accommodation for business stays through my company, and I’d love to visit again. Both the Facility and the service were excellent, and it was truly relaxing. Thank you very much.

    A-Class Rating

Both dinner and breakfast were carefully prepared, tasted great, and the portions were sufficient for elderly guests. The Onsen was enjoyable, especially the waterfall-style bath in the large public bath, but I was disappointed that the pool was too shallow to swim in. Overall, I think this Hotel can be rated as A-class.

Relax and unwind at our accommodation.

A girls’ trip with three friends. The Room has a bath, plus a löyly sauna, mist sauna, and gym, so you can relax from check-in. There’s also a lounge, massage services, and a meditation room. We really enjoyed the delicious meals.

    Relax in the Hotel

There are two types of spa and sauna (steam and dry). Since I’m not good with high heat, the steam sauna was refreshing. There is also a massage chair room, a meditation room, and a training room, which was great. In the lounge, there were alcoholic drinks, juice, coffee, snacks, small cakes, and more—there was a wide selection of alcohol. For meals, there were many dishes such as rice cooked in a copper pot and Saga beef. It was delicious, but it didn’t quite feel outstanding. At breakfast, the rice and miso soup were warm, but it was disappointing that the other items didn’t seem freshly made. Everything else was very good.

Not worth the price. The photos and Facility description are exaggerated.

I think this Accommodation is a renovated former retreat facility. I was satisfied with the Room itself. However, across the Facility as a whole, the much-touted sauna and onsen pool were not as impressive as the photos and descriptions on the website or Reservation sites suggested. The floor in the corridor at the entrance to the sauna area was made of a cheap-looking material (vinyl chloride?), was slippery, and felt dangerously unsafe after I nearly fell. There wasn’t enough consideration for guests’ safety. A few anti-slip mats had been placed, but they also looked like inexpensive office mats, which made me question the overall taste. It didn’t seem like the large public bath had been renovated; it felt old and didn’t make me want to use it. The lounge menu was also disappointing, and I felt it could be omitted entirely. Even though the Room is good, when some Facilities or areas look cheap or poorly designed, it lowers the overall impression. Since these Facilities and areas should be easy to keep an eye on, it feels like a missed opportunity.

    Relax and unwind

The Room had large windows with a great view, which was very relaxing. The bath in the Room was also an Onsen, so I enjoyed it both at night and in the morning. I would be even happier if the large public bath had an open-air bath as well. The meals were beautifully presented and enjoyable. However, the pork shabu-shabu loin slices were quite thick and filling, making them a bit difficult to eat; I think slightly thinner slices would be better. The bed firmness was just right and I slept soundly, and with checkout at 11:00, we could take our time. I’d like to visit again in a different season.

We would like the large public bath facilities to be more fully equipped.

It was right in cherry blossom season, and this Accommodation offered great views and a quiet, relaxing stay. The Room furnishings and overall comfort were excellent. The lounge also had a wide selection of drinks, the sofas were very comfortable, and I was able to unwind. That said, while I understand the concept of having a meditation room and well-equipped massage chairs, the best area is positioned as a spa. If you come expecting to simply enjoy an Onsen, you may feel disappointed. The spa itself is nice, but perhaps due to limited staff there wasn’t enough guidance, so I wasn’t sure how to use it and felt confused. Compared with the spa, the public bath was small and had no view, which was disappointing. Of course there is an Onsen in the Room so you can use that instead, but I still wished the public bath were more substantial. Dinner was the smaller-course option, but it was delicious and more than satisfying. For breakfast as well, being able to add à la carte items is an excellent service. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

The Accommodation That Ruined the End of Our Kyushu Trip

I’m writing this because I’m frustrated. After returning from the trip, I simply couldn’t stay silent. Before making my Reservation, I read through the Reviews on IKYU. There were several low-rated Review comments saying things like “the staff response was disappointing,” “the food was underwhelming,” and “not worth the price.” But there were also many high ratings, and since it was a suite, I assumed it would be fine—so I booked it. I regretted that decision from the moment we checked out. Everything those low-rated reviewers wrote was true. About the Room and Facility: We reserved a suite Room. It’s not cheap, so of course we expected an experience to match. But the moment we walked in, we had the feeling of “we picked a bad one.” It wasn’t outright dirty, but overall it felt dated and poorly maintained. Rather than luxurious, it came across as an Accommodation that may have been great in the past. About the in-room sauna: One of the selling points of this suite is having a sauna in the Room. It was truly awful. The temperature barely rose at all. Humidity control wasn’t working either. Instead of being relaxing, it was just time spent sitting inside a hot box. As someone who loves saunas, advertising this as a “suite with sauna” at that quality level honestly feels close to deceptive. If you offer it as part of your Facility, please maintain at least a minimum standard. About the food: We had high expectations for dinner—Kyushu ingredients are excellent, and we assumed they would be showcased properly. However, when the appetizers arrived, their edges were dried out and crusty. Whether they’d been sitting too long before being served or there was an issue with storage, either way it wasn’t acceptable. The seafood also had no flavor despite supposedly good ingredients; whether that’s due to preparation or freshness I can’t say—but all I could think was how disappointing it felt after coming all this way to Kyushu. Considering what this course must cost, I genuinely don’t understand why those dishes were served. About staff service: This isn’t about whether they smiled or greeted us—it’s about professional service quality being low overall: not attentive enough; poor timing; only responding after guests take action first themselves. When staying at an upscale Accommodation, guests are paying for staff to anticipate needs even without being asked—and that simply wasn’t there at all. Please reconsider what hospitality means from its foundations up; rather than an individual issue with specific staff members, this felt like a problem with training and management system-wide.

    Aging large public bath

Because the listing said “Opened in spring 2023,” I made a Reservation expecting to use a new large Onsen bath. However, the large bath and the restroom next to it are quite worn and outdated. There is no view at all from the large bath. On the other hand, the infinity spa shown in the photos appears to be newly built and is very beautiful with a great view, but since it is only about 30 cm deep, it does not function as a proper bathing area. After I complained to the property, the wording was changed from “Opened in spring 2023” to “Reopened after renovation in 2023.” Personally, even with “reopened after renovation,” I think some guests may mistakenly expect a clean large Onsen bath where they can stretch out and soak comfortably. That said, since there is a newly installed bathtub in the Room, it should be fine for guests who do not plan to use the large bath. Also, in my Room, the toilet placement was awkward—specifically, you can clearly see the toilet door from the sofa. I recommend that young couples or married couples check the layout before making a Reservation. As for meals, it felt more focused on quantity than quality.

    Or not.

The facilities felt very cheap. I assume the building is a very old one that has been renovated, but it felt off from the moment I walked in. The construction and layout reminded me of a nursing home or a hospital. It looks like they’ve patched things up to appear clean, but overall it was disappointing. I felt this Ryokan was not worth the price. The spa was lukewarm and cold, and too shallow. The large public bath also felt far too old—after going once, I didn’t want to go again. I heard the sauna was very good. The Room was spacious and clean. The sukiyaki and fish dishes were delicious. It seemed like many of the staff were elderly, giving it a homey feel for better or worse. Overall, everyone was kind. In any case, the facilities felt far too cheap, so it likely won’t suit guests looking for a luxury experience.

The room and meals were excellent, but the sauna was a bit disappointing.

The lounge and the Room had an excellent atmosphere—spacious and very clean. However, while the sauna itself was great and had a nice ambiance, the surrounding Facility (changing room, showers, cold bath, etc.) was disappointing. The changing room and wash area were small, and I worried about what would happen if several people used them at the same time. It was a problem that no hot water came out of the shower, and the water pressure was also low. The meals were excellent, including breakfast.

    We stayed as a famil...

We stayed as a family at the end of the year. Everything was state-of-the-art and incredibly comfortable, but there were a few areas that seemed slightly lacking. When we mentioned this in the hotel's survey, they responded promptly and said they would consider it. I found their attitude very commendable as well. This is an accommodation with even greater potential for the future.

The service and meals are always satisfying, but this time, due to electrical work, there was a power outage for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, during which all equipment was unusable. Such planned work should have been communicated in advance.

Impressed by the excellent facilities and staff hospitality.

It was my first stay at this accommodation. I was surprised to see a male staff member waiting at the entrance when I arrived at the parking lot. The front desk, dining, and all the staff throughout the facility were simply amazing. I was deeply moved from start to finish. They provided heartfelt hospitality across a wide range of ages, which made me very happy. The onsen spa healed both my body and mind, washing away all the daily stress—truly grateful! The meals featured fresh fish from Karatsu and a series of exquisite dishes reminiscent of Kyoto cuisine. Both variety and volume were perfect. Unfortunately, perhaps due to my age, I couldn’t finish everything and regretted not having a bigger appetite! The rice had an excellent texture with just the right amount of crispness and sweetness—I wanted to eat it all but left some behind; they kindly made it into rice balls for me. When I declined dessert because I was full, they brought it to my room instead. Even when I accidentally spilled tea during dinner, they first checked if it had spilled on me with concern before cleaning up with a smile—such thoughtful service left me feeling humbled. The uniforms were charming, and their lively demeanor combined with pride in their hospitality truly impressed me. On departure day, they waved goodbye until we were out of sight. I will definitely stay here whenever visiting Kyushu again. My spirits had been low after staying at a disappointing hotel in Nagasaki City the night before; this accommodation lifted them completely and provided a wonderful conclusion to my trip. Thank you so much—it’s an exceptional facility beyond words!

I was very satisfied. I would love to stay here again.

We stayed at the accommodation as a family to celebrate my mother's birthday. Thanks to the wonderful experience, we were able to relax and everyone in the family was extremely satisfied. I had previously stayed here with a friend and loved it so much that I decided to bring my family this time. The room was spacious, clean, and well-equipped with amenities. The private bath in the room allowed us to enjoy a relaxing soak at our preferred time, which was fantastic. The large public bath featured a waterfall shower that helped relieve daily fatigue. The spa offered breathtaking views, and at night we could gaze at Orion's Belt while losing track of time. The wooden-scented sauna provided additional relaxation. Both the spa and lounge allowed us to freely enjoy snacks and drinks, making for an indulgent experience. Meals were served in a spacious private dining room. Both dinner and breakfast were beautifully presented with seasonal touches and absolutely delicious. It felt like each dish was thoughtfully crafted with care by the chefs. The staff who served our meals showed genuine warmth beyond standard service protocols, making us feel both emotionally fulfilled and physically satisfied. Additionally, all staff members provided heartfelt hospitality—from welcoming us at the parking lot upon arrival to greeting us warmly at reception—and even prepared a special gift for my mother’s birthday celebration. We also deeply appreciated how clean both our room and facilities were thanks to the efforts of those working behind the scenes on cleaning and preparation tasks. It was truly wonderful to fulfill my wish of staying here with my family this time around. We would love to visit again!

    Unfortunately.

This was our fourth stay as a family. We keep coming back for the spa, where you can enjoy in swimwear regardless of the season, and the lounge. However, this time we were very disappointed as the cleanliness was lacking and the lounge offerings had changed significantly. The spa ceiling and hotel exterior showed noticeable dirt and cobwebs. The dehydration machine had also been removed. In the lounge, snacks were limited to just nuts, with some containers completely empty. There were fewer tea bags available, leaving an overall sparse impression. (Previously, there used to be plenty of snacks like chocolates and chips along with a wide variety of alcoholic beverages.) The selection of alcohol was also significantly reduced. It felt like cost-cutting measures were evident, which left us feeling disappointed. The service at the front desk has always been average at best. If there are no improvements made to the lounge offerings, we may not consider staying again in the future.

    Travel with Your Beloved Dog

Enjoyed the private Onsen in the room multiple times. The room was clean, and the pet-friendly Facility was excellent, but it took time for hot water to come out of the shower, which we only discovered after inquiring as there was no prior explanation. Additionally, while alcohol was available in the lobby, snacks were out of stock and not replenished even after informing reception. If service improves, we might consider staying again since hotels accommodating pets are rare. The meals were very delicious.

    Stayed for one night.

I recently stayed for one night. The accommodation was clean, and the staff were very kind. I especially appreciated the kindness of the woman at reception and the man who provided shuttle service. Thank you so much. However, in the lounge area where food and drinks were available, there were only two types of sweet desserts and some nuts, which was far from what I had expected. Since there are no convenience stores nearby but a free dining space is available, it was one of the reasons I chose this accommodation—I regretted not bringing something with me beforehand. Additionally, meal service was very slow; by the time shabu-shabu arrived, I was already full and couldn’t finish it all, which was disappointing. Even when rice was ready to eat, neither a rice paddle nor bowls were provided promptly—I had to call for assistance multiple times. That said, everything tasted absolutely delicious! For amenities at this price point accommodation, I would have liked a bit more variety or options available. When visiting the spa around 9 PM, there weren’t any beer glasses left—perhaps because it was late? Maybe they would have been available earlier? The temperature of the large public bath water was perfect! The scent of the shampoo provided in-house also smelled wonderful. If improvements are made to address some of these disappointing aspects in future stays, I’d love to visit again! Since I had been looking forward to my stay and even watched videos on YouTube beforehand about it—the limited selection in the dining space felt underwhelming overall.

    Not bad.

The renovated accommodation offers a luxurious space with spacious and comfortable rooms. The large public bath and sauna facilities are also excellent. Enhancing meals and drinks, even if it increases the price, could further improve satisfaction. Perhaps the concept differs?
