Modern and stylish
This was my first stay here, and my impression was, “What a wonderful Accommodation in Kusatsu!” The wooden architecture—and the lobby filled with wood—created a world I absolutely loved. The atmosphere reminded me of the Starbucks in Dazaifu, and I honestly wanted to stay in the lobby all day. The Room felt open and airy, and it was very clean. This time we booked No Meals Included, so it’s a shame we couldn’t enjoy the meals. The large public bath uses hot spring water from Jizo-no-Yu as its source, and the sulfur scent made it even better. In the morning, I had that spacious bath all to myself. We also used the scenic private bath for an additional fee. Kusatsu has many historic traditional inns, so being able to stay No Meals Included feels refreshingly modern—and I never expected to find such a lovely Accommodation at this price. Jizo-no-Yu in front of the Accommodation was relatively uncrowded as well. There was an interesting “face bath,” but when I looked closely… there was some mold, which was a bit disappointing. I felt it would be nice if someone could clean it daily. All of the staff were kind and helpful. I’d love to visit again.

Hot Onsen
Arriving by car, we were greeted by staff and guided along a stylish, atmospheric walkway to the front desk. We were then escorted to our Room with courteous service; it was a comfortable tatami Room with large windows. At the front desk we were told that the roll-up blind was broken, but since the bed height is level with the window, we worried that people could see in at night and that the morning sun would shine directly in. We managed to lower it all the way and felt relieved. The Onsen is not diluted with water, so it is extremely hot—those who are sensitive to heat may not be able to use it. We were told this is part of the Hotel’s pride, which is also quite impressive. However, both the air conditioner and fan in the women’s changing area were broken, and it felt stifling. The restaurant had a wonderful atmosphere and the food was delicious; a window-side seat would have been even better. The location is excellent—close to Yubatake as well. If the blind and changing-area issues had been properly addressed, our rating would have been higher.

Unwind in the rare Jizo hot spring source and a modern setting—an adult retreat that truly satisfies.
I was finally able to visit “Ura-Kusatsu Tou,” a place I’d been curious about for a long time. Located in the Ura-Kusatsu area, just a short distance from the bustle of Yubatake, the moment you step inside you’ll find a beautifully curated space where traditional craftsmanship and modern design come together. Every corner of the Accommodation is picture-perfect. From interiors accented with traditional crafts to warm, inviting lighting, you can feel the attention to detail throughout. It was an Accommodation with a calm atmosphere—perfect for an adults-only getaway. Relax from the core with “Jizo Gensen” The greatest highlight here is, of course, the Onsen fed by “Jizo Gensen.” Among Kusatsu’s many hot spring sources, “Jizo-no-Yu” is said to be rare due to its low output. Its gentle feel on the skin and subtle milky hue were wonderfully soothing, and I could truly relax from deep within. Not only in the large public bath but throughout the building, there are thoughtful touches that create a sense of gentle “sway,” making it feel as if everyday fatigue simply melts away. Dinner and breakfast were served in a serene dining space. Every dish was beautifully presented and delicious enough to make you happy with each bite. Breakfast also felt luxurious: colorful small plates lined up alongside freshly cooked rice. An Accommodation where you can fully enjoy both the Onsen and the cuisine—I left completely satisfied in both heart and stomach. The Room was spotless and comfortable—functional yet designed with a calming Japanese aesthetic. The staff maintained just the right level of attentiveness; thanks to their courteous service, my stay was pleasant from start to finish. It had been some time since my last visit to Kusatsu Onsen, but this trip helped me rediscover its charm all over again. This wonderful Accommodation lets you experience both the excellence of Jizo Gensen and modern comfort at once—somewhere I would love to return again.

Repairs Required
Overall, there was a lot of pain. It might not be suitable for Japanese guests.

We thoroughly enjoyed Kusatsu.
The Room was clean and the amenities were more than sufficient. We also enjoyed delicious meals. Our privacy was well protected, making our stay very comfortable. The staff provided courteous service. Thank you very much.

Accommodation for 8 guests in 2 rooms.
Service not worth the price. Without proper training for foreign staff, it was nothing but stressful. Both the staff and guests at the front desk were mostly foreigners. Chinese guests were speaking loudly, which was unpleasant. I will never go again.

The foreign staff’s level of service is far too low.
Most of the staff are foreign nationals. Japanese often isn’t understood, and their knowledge of the job seems limited, so communication is difficult. For parking, I was told to park in front of the Hotel. They took my car key, and even when I said, “I don’t want that—I’d like to park farther away,” it wasn’t understood, so I had no choice but to leave my key with them. I was worried whether they would handle the car properly (e.g., releasing the parking brake). Please study Japanese first, and then learn hospitality.

We’re sorry to hear you were disappointed.
They seem to be trying, but the food is terrible. Temperature control is poor across the board: the miso soup was lukewarm, the grilled fish was cold, and even the bread was cold. I won’t be coming back. Because so many guests come to Kusatsu Onsen, it feels like the staff have mistaken that for being “popular.” First of all, they should rethink the food, and also reconsider both the prices and selection of alcohol. Disappointing.

A couple-friendly Onsen Accommodation where you can enjoy the atmosphere of Ura-Kusatsu.
We stayed here on the first night of our 2-night, 3-day trip to Kusatsu Onsen as a family (two adults and one 8-year-old child). We take about 40 family trips a year. [Location] Just a few minutes’ walk from Yubatake, the symbol of Kusatsu. Exit from the first-floor door and go through a narrow pedestrian-only path, and you’re there—very convenient for sightseeing. [Parking] It’s a little away from the Accommodation, but staff provide Shuttle Service by bus. The approach to the entrance is via narrow lanes, so drivers of larger vehicles may need to be extra careful. [Guest Room] Beds on tatami flooring. Since there is an Onsen public bath, the room has only a shower. The TV is a bit small. [Facilities] The building seems to have been renovated down to the structure, and everything is very clean—almost like a Hotel. The rooftop terrace was marked “No entry due to slippery conditions,” but when I went to check there was no snow at all; this policy felt slightly overly cautious. [Private Bath] Due to winter season restrictions we couldn’t use the rooftop one, so we used the first-floor private bath. The water itself is good, but it only has one shower and a small ceramic tub. Since private baths are not typically used alone, I’d like to see more thought put into making it more comfortable. [Meals (Dinner)] A Japanese-Western fusion course centered around charcoal-grilled dishes. There were no child-friendly options at all, so it’s clearly aimed at couples or adult groups. Each dish was beautifully plated with presentation in mind. One concern was that clearing didn’t keep up—used plates were piled up near the restaurant entrance where guests pass most often. [Meals (Breakfast)] A set Japanese breakfast menu. [Overall Satisfaction] The biggest draw is its excellent location near Yubatake, which is why I rated it 5/5. That said, considering the Accommodation Fee, I felt that if the Facilities and services were just a bit more substantial overall, it could be an even better place to stay.

Enjoy the hot spring source and creative cuisine
A stylish Accommodation in a prime location within walking distance of Yubatake. The building is relatively new, and the lobby, restaurant, and guest rooms are all thoughtfully designed spaces that made the stay feel special and out of the ordinary. Dinner was a creative set-course meal, and it was exciting to see each dish arrive one by one. The bath isn’t large, but there is an open-air bath where we could enjoy Kusatsu’s characteristically sharp hot-spring water straight from the source. The yukata and haori were stylish, and when we headed to Yubatake wearing them, the front desk staff kindly looked out for us and lent us an umbrella in the light rain. I’d love to visit again.

Many guests seem unfamiliar with public bath etiquette: all the doors were left open, so the steam made it impossible to see anything, and it was extremely cold. The open-air bath also had so little water that you couldn’t soak up to your shoulders. The changing room floor was soaking wet because people walked around without drying off. It would be helpful if the Hotel explained the rules at check-in or provided a simple guide. The meals were average, and I think you should reconsider the selection of sake and other drinks. The restaurant was also cold in a yukata. Overall, it didn’t feel worth the price.

We were greeted before entering the entrance. The welcome drink was self-service. We were given an explanation about the drinks, but guests who arrived later were not. The check-in instructions were hard to understand. Then we were given a written guide with everything explained. Dinner was served with the appetizer already set on the table before we sat down. For the main course, you can choose pork or fish; choosing beef fillet costs an additional 1,980 yen. The staff member at check-out spoke clearly and was easy to understand, leaving a great impression. The facilities were very clean, and the Room was lovely. The location is also good. On the other hand, the service did not feel worth the price.

Girls' Trip
The exterior was beautiful, and I was excited to step inside. The front desk staff were all very polite, which gave me a sense of reassurance. It was my first stay, but it was such a lovely place that I would love to stay here again when I visit Kusatsu.

Thank you for your thoughtfulness.
It was a snowy day. The staff showed great care and provided attentive service both inside the facility and when we went out to places like Yubatake. We were very satisfied with the Onsen, private baths, and meals for both dinner and breakfast. However, if I may mention a few points: the room's roll curtains were difficult to use, the indoor sandals were worn out, and we had to refill water ourselves in the large humidifier in our room as it was empty. These are minor details, but I wanted to share my observations. Overall, we truly appreciated your thoughtful hospitality. Thank you very much!

This was my second visit. I enjoyed the meals, and the Onsen was great. However, I was surprised that by around 10 a.m., only cold water came out of the shower in the morning bath.

No longer available for use.
The accommodation cost did not match the quality. The bathroom was small for the number of rooms, and cleaning was insufficient. The guest rooms were similar in condition. Another guest I met in the elevator mentioned that they used a paid private bath, but it had drainage issues and felt unpleasant, so they canceled it—they also said it wasn't good. The foreign staff at the front desk tried their best but had a low level of Japanese proficiency, making communication difficult. A printed explanation with similar details was provided, so lengthy explanations were unnecessary. Perhaps Kusatsu's prices are generally high, but I probably won't use this accommodation again.

First Time at Kusatsu Onsen
Stayed during the autumn holiday. Although I had informed them in advance about ingredients I couldn't eat, two dishes with those ingredients were served as appetizers at dinner. The large public bath requires you to bring a towel from your room and take it back after use, but there is no place to hang it in the room. While the water was cloudy, it was not a natural Onsen. My first visit to Kusatsu turned out to be a bit disappointing.
- 3.00litt1eboyวันที่โพสต์: 8/9/2025
The building and rooms are clean, but there is room for overall improvement.
[Facility] There is only one elevator for the number of guest rooms, so it takes a long time to arrive. The parking lot is located in an area that requires a car to access, making Shuttle Service between the Hotel and parking lot essential. Mobile data connection in the guest rooms is poor, and while Wi-Fi is available, it frequently disconnects. [Dining] Disappointing. The duck with persimmon puree lacked any persimmon flavor, and the meat was not recognizable as duck breast but rather an unidentified smoked part that tasted more like bacon. When asked for clarification, staff simply stated "It's duck" without explaining which part or offering to confirm further—indicating low operational quality. The matsutake tartine was poorly prepared; the matsutake mushrooms were not sliced properly, and the burnt rice crust underneath was too hard to cut without a knife. However, due to being served on a wide-rimmed plate typically used for soup or pasta with square tartine placed on top, cutting it became difficult. Additionally, decorative wild rice stuck to the sauce below made eating cumbersome. While such presentation might be acceptable for finger foods like amuse-bouches, using this plate style and presentation for something requiring knife-and-fork use shows either poor taste or lack of consideration for guests' convenience. Overall seasoning across dishes was overly salty as well. Service speed was also slow—not just with food but even post-meal coffee/tea service took nearly 20 minutes after ordering despite repeated inquiries met only with "soon" responses without action taken promptly afterward until re-confirmation occurred right before serving eventually happened abruptly (possibly noticing guests preparing leave). This left an unpleasant impression overall regarding attentiveness professionalism expected dining experience level provided here lacking significantly instead disappointing entirely end-to-end basis No repeat visits likely...
There are two reasons why I don't think I would repeat my stay. ① The Onsen was too hot. We visited as a family of four, looking forward to enjoying the Kusatsu Onsen. The large bath area had two types of baths: a silky bath (not an Onsen) and a natural flowing hot spring Onsen. Unfortunately, the Onsen was so hot that we couldn't get in. Since we were excited about experiencing the Onsen, everyone in the family felt disappointed. Feeling sad, we went to another natural flowing hot spring at a different location the next day and found it pleasantly warm and comfortable to bathe in. ② Limited amenities. For our family of four, there was only one face towel available in the washroom, which was inconvenient. Perhaps it’s for environmental conservation purposes, but many aspects seemed simplified, making it hard to feel comfortable during our stay. This time we chose a Plan with breakfast and dinner included, and the meals were absolutely delicious! While I considered coming back because of how good the food was, it's unfortunate that we couldn’t enjoy bathing in the Onsen—so I don’t think I'll return again.

Family Trip
We reserved 2 rooms for a family of 6. The facility, rooms, and baths were very stylish and had a clean atmosphere. The moment we entered the building, there was a pleasant fragrance. For dinner, while the presentation was stunningly beautiful, the fish had a slightly unpleasant smell, and overall it didn’t feel like a well-balanced course meal, which was disappointing. Some appetizers were already placed at the beginning of the course along with small pieces of bread inside them—it felt like an unusual arrangement. Breakfast was simple and average; it didn’t seem like much effort was put into the meals overall. It gave an impression that they focused more on photo-worthy dishes aimed at foreign guests rather than taste or balance. The temperature of the onsen in the large public bath was high and very comfortable. However, in the women’s bath area, there was constant noise from drainage sounds which disrupted what could have been an excellent experience—this felt like such a waste. Lastly, we were surprised by how far away the parking lot was from the facility.

For Adults
Stayed in a Japanese-Western style room in August with two adults, one young child, and one elementary school-aged child. The location is excellent, conveniently close to Yubatake. The Jizo hot spring source and the illuminated footbath create a pleasant atmosphere. Meals for adults were good, but there were no options for children's menus, which was disappointing. The room had a slightly strange smell upon entering, possibly due to humidity, which was not ideal. Overall ambiance is great and seems suitable for trips with only adults. However, it may not be the best choice for families with young children or elementary school-aged kids.

So close...
A newly built and lovely Ryokan located in Ura-Kusatsu. The Room and Onsen were excellent! However, the food portions seemed a bit small. We paid an additional fee for beef, but the portion was so tiny that we felt it might not have been worth it. There were two concerns during our stay. First, the restroom in the lobby always seemed to have overflowing trash no matter when we visited. Second, there was only one elevator, which resulted in long waiting times. Without these issues, it would have been perfect! Thank you very much.

Amenities Fully Equipped!
Arriving at the Hotel earlier than check-in time, the staff kindly stored our luggage and even delivered it to our Room. They were very helpful, providing information about the shuttle bus schedule. The meals were thoughtfully prepared and delicious, though the main fillet steak was slightly tough, which was a bit disappointing. The Room was well-equipped with not only a hairdryer but also cosmetic products and even a hair iron. The public Onsen bath was a bit small. There are many day-use Onsen facilities in the area, so combining those with your stay might be a great idea! I would love to stay here again if I have another chance.

This is my second time!
Stayed here last year with my husband and had a wonderful experience, so this time I returned with two friends for a girls' trip. The accommodation is conveniently located near the bus terminal, allowing us to drop off our luggage and explore Kusatsu at ease. Upon check-in, we were delighted to find our luggage already delivered to the room—excellent hospitality! The room is simple yet equipped with essentials like a hair iron. The large public bath features ReFa shower heads and dryers, making it perfect for a girls' getaway! Meals were deliciously prepared in just the right portions, offering a calm dining atmosphere that allowed us to relax fully. Both dinner and breakfast times are chosen upon arrival on a first-come-first-served basis, ensuring no rush while enjoying the course meals. One of the large baths is not an Onsen; however, the outdoor bath uses Jizo Onsen water. Kusatsu's hot springs are truly exceptional—my body stayed warm even into the next day, and my skin felt smooth! With checkout at 11:00 AM, we could enjoy leisurely morning baths before or after breakfast. That said, during both night and morning relaxation times, we could hear loud footsteps from what seemed like an upper floor for quite some time. While it wasn’t disruptive enough to report to staff, it might bother guests seeking tranquility. Perhaps assigning families with children to lower floors could enhance everyone's experience. I share these thoughts in hopes of further improving this wonderful accommodation. Looking forward to staying again!

Jizo Hot Spring Source
The Jizo Onsen is wonderful, and I really enjoyed it. I wish the silky bath was also an Onsen. (It was quiet with few people, allowing me to fully relax in the Onsen.) There were some issues with bees entering the open-air bath. The facility is new and very clean. However, there is only one elevator for the number of guest rooms, so it was often difficult to use. The meal service could have been better.

I was looking forward to the meals and the Room even before my stay, and it exceeded my expectations—absolutely perfect! The meals are excellent, especially the dinner.
Dinner was excellent, and we enjoyed beer and wine. The bath, especially the open-air bath, was great. However, the washing area in the bath was dimly lit, and in some spots, the shower pressure was not good. In the Room, the support board under the bed on top of the tatami mat was larger than the bed's width, causing both of us to bump our feet multiple times. This should be urgently changed to a base that matches the bed's width like other Hotels. Another issue is that even with navigation systems, it was difficult to find the narrow road leading to Hotel’s entrance; we passed it twice before calling for directions and ended up entering from a steep slope at the back while confused. Please place a signboard at this road entrance as indicated by navigation systems.

Stylish and trendy
Located just a 3-minute walk from Kusatsu's Yubatake, with a modern design. We reserved a Japanese-Western style room with an attached bath. The beds were spacious, the amenities were stylish, and all the hair dryers in the room were ReFa products, as well as the shampoos. There were gowns, pajamas, and yukatas available. The meals were beautifully presented, and even the plates made us want to own them. The staff was kind and efficient in their work; we would love to make another reservation when visiting Kusatsu again.
