    Ocean View Family Deluxe with Open-Air Bath (1st Floor)

    My spouse and I stayed for one night. It was about a 20-minute taxi ride from Fukue Port and cost around 3,000 yen. The exterior has a wonderful atmosphere, and the Room design—such as the round lighting and bed placement—was excellent. The bath temperature was just right; however, since it’s an open-air bath, those who dislike insects should be aware. The bath door is difficult to operate, so it would be helpful if Hotel staff explained it at check-in. Dinner used plenty of local ingredients and was delicious, though the deep-fried grouper that day tasted a bit too mild. The starry sky at night was amazing—this is something they could highlight more. If you walk a little further, it gets even darker and you should be able to see an even better sky; we could even see the Milky Way with the naked eye. I’d love for the Hotel to provide binoculars or a stargazing guide. Breakfast was the only disappointment: the yuzu-marinated grilled fish was tough, and the nikujaga felt lacking in impact. Also, depending on the person, there seemed to be differences in how warm the staff’s service felt—though many were very kind. Overall, the scenery and quiet environment were truly wonderful.

    We were very satisfied.

    The location was outstanding above all else. The in-room bath was an Onsen, and the view was so incredible that I could have stayed in it forever without wanting to leave. The Room was a perfect size and felt very clean. The meals were excellent, and I was very satisfied with both breakfast and dinner. There wasn’t any particular dress code inside the property, and it was fine to dine in loungewear, which made for a very relaxing stay. We joined the optional stargazing guide tour, but unfortunately Mt. Onidake—the planned observation spot—was covered by clouds so we couldn’t observe there. However, the guide quickly took us to another location, and we were able to see a wonderful starry sky. We enjoyed the Milky Way and summer constellations with the naked eye. The only disappointing thing was that there was a used tissue left in the pocket of the loungewear provided in our Room—apparently from a previous guest. I wonder if they didn’t check the pockets during cleaning… I also became curious about other Onko Chishin properties, so I went ahead and signed up for membership (lol).

    We had a very relaxing stay.

    I stayed for two nights as a solo traveler. If you’re staying alone, I think only the smallest Room is available, but it was more than spacious enough for one person. Because the Room is small, having the air conditioner blow directly on me while sleeping was a bit tough, but everything else was excellent. With an Onsen on the balcony, I could soak whenever I wanted and relax on the sofa with a book. On the second day, since I had the chance, I rented a car share from the Hotel parking lot and toured the island. At check-in, they gave me a sheet they had made with recommended sightseeing spots on the island, which was very helpful. Takahama Beach is amazing—the “Goto Blue” was incredible. The meals were also great; I enjoyed local specialties such as fish and Goto beef. It seems they changed the menu on the second day only for guests on a Multiple Night Stay. Everything was delicious. If I have another opportunity, this is an Accommodation I’d love to return to for a relaxing getaway away from city noise.

    The meals and servic...

    The meals and service were very attentive, and we were satisfied. Thank you to all the staff. On the other hand, using the bath in the Room was quite inconvenient, and including moving from the shower area, it was difficult to get in. We also felt it didn’t really seem like an Onsen, and the view from the Room was not as good as we expected. Still, overall we are satisfied. Thank you very much.

    I was surprised that the staff seemed to cover all areas. The bartender also worked as restaurant staff and even handled the Shuttle Service. At the spa, there was no hair dryer at night, so I called the front desk and the spa staff member brought one over—another surprise. We had meals up through lunch, and they were simply delicious. The rice at the end of dinner felt a little generous, while breakfast was just right. As for improvements, operating the humidifier may be difficult for seniors, and grinding coffee beans also took quite a bit of strength (haha). Also, it was a bit disappointing to see a wash bucket in the open-air bath and some cobwebs on the ceiling, but the view was absolutely beautiful. The staff were all very attentive, and I would like to stay again in a different season. Thank you very much for taking care of us during our stay.

    A Wonderful Stay

    After seeing it in a magazine, I’d been wanting to visit for two years, and I finally got to stay here. It was an even more wonderful stay than I had imagined. The meals were delicious, with plenty of local ingredients. I’ll definitely be back!

    The meals were disappointing.

    The Facility, amenities, and bath were satisfactory. However, my expectations for the meals were high, so I was disappointed by the following points. I booked the Chef’s Selected Plan with alcohol pairing: 1. There were pieces of shell mixed in with the spiny lobster sashimi. 2. The paired wine for the meat course was not served until we requested it. 3. The Goto beef was tough and difficult to chew. Since I was dining with a companion, I wonder if other guests felt the same way. The head chef also seemed quite young, and I wish them continued success in the future.

    A true retreat.

    For my long-awaited trip to the Goto Islands, I chose Goto Retreat ray by Onko Chishin, which I’d had my eye on for some time, as my Accommodation. Wanting to fully enjoy an escape from everyday life—and believing that “Goto is best when it’s sunny”—I stayed for four nights. In a word, it was outstanding. The breathtaking views from the Room and the open-air bath, the locally sourced cuisine, the wine pairings, and the relaxing spa—everything was among the best I’ve experienced at any Accommodation. Although there were a few cloudy days during my stay, they brought an almost ink-wash-painting-like atmosphere with a dreamlike landscape. Because I had a Multiple Night Stay and could fully enjoy the sunny days as well, those quiet scenes felt all the more special. The staff were also exceptionally hospitable, and I was comfortable throughout my stay. If I could suggest just one improvement: since this is an Accommodation perfect for enjoying time in-house, I would be even happier if there were a more robust selection of light meals—such as sandwiches—available via room service or as snack options that could serve as lunch. I was very satisfied with the premium afternoon tea with free-flow Champagne, and I also enjoyed the bar bites platter. While I’m not fond of nuts, when I mentioned it to a staff member they kindly offered alternatives; their flexibility truly impressed me. Precisely because the food quality is so high here, I feel that even if prices rose slightly, having more light-meal options would make this place even more appealing. It was a stay where I could fully savor both Goto’s nature and everything this Accommodation has to offer—I would love to return in another season.

    I was soothed by the Goto Blue.

    We were blessed with great weather and felt soothed by the colors of the sky and sea in Goto. The Room was spacious and comfortable, and the view from the open-air bath was amazing. Unfortunately, one night didn’t feel like enough. I wish we could have stayed a little longer. Later, a taxi driver told us the sunrise is beautiful—I wish the staff had mentioned it to us. Thank you for taking care of us.

    A carefully curated and highly recommended accommodation.

    We stayed here to celebrate a birthday. The staff kindly explained the thoughtful details found throughout the Facility. Our Room had an open-air bath with natural Onsen water, and we were able to relax and unwind. The food was also excellent, and it was impressive how carefully each dish was prepared with great attention to detail. It may be available for a limited time, but lunch could also be enjoyed with an advance Reservation, and it was delicious as well. It’s not easy for us to visit Fukue often, but this was a wonderful Accommodation that we would love to return to if we have the chance.

    I love island trips.

    This was our second trip to the Goto Islands. For one of our three nights, we decided to treat ourselves and chose this property. The space was stylish, and both breakfast and dinner were Japanese cuisine—everything was delicious. There was also a great selection of drinks, which we really enjoyed. We heard that the open-air bath in the Room now uses Onsen water, and we wished we could have stayed in it forever. We had a truly dreamlike time. All of the staff were wonderful as well. We would love to visit again.

    Alcohol is expensive.

    The pricing of sake—an essential drink to accompany Japanese cuisine—is absurdly high. Markups of 5 to 8 times the retail price are outrageous. In work related to regional revitalization projects, I once made a shallow, amateur suggestion to brewers around the country: “Since it’s cheaper than wine, wouldn’t raising the price increase brand value?” Some agreed readily, but several gave an old-school response along these lines: “My mission is to serve great sake first. Raising prices just to make it seem valuable is putting the cart before the horse.” Trying to align sake prices with wine would undermine that kind of brewer’s ethos. If you’re targeting inbound tourists and status-seeking Japanese who judge value by price, then perhaps this approach is fine as it is.

    For a Multiple Night Stay, please.

    With warblers singing and swallows soaring, soaking in the Room’s open-air Onsen bath while gazing out at the sea before you is pure bliss. The meals were satisfying, and the staff’s warm smiles were wonderful as well. Next time, I’ll book a Multiple Night Stay.

    It was wonderful.

    They asked about our schedule in advance and arranged taxis and other transportation, which was a great help. Our Reservation time had to be changed due to our circumstances, but they responded immediately. Everyone was very friendly, and we had a comfortable stay. The meals featured plenty of ingredients from the Goto Islands and were absolutely delicious. We also enjoyed the Onsen, making this a very satisfying trip.

    It was a memorable trip to Fukue Island.

    My wife and I stayed for 2 nights and 3 days. From our Room, we had a panoramic view of the beautiful sea and the Yoroise lava coastline—an incredible景色 that made us want to keep looking at it and forget about time. We were also very satisfied with the meals. They featured plenty of fresh local fish from the Goto Islands and locally grown vegetables, and even though we stayed two nights, not a single dish was repeated. Every meal was something to look forward to, and we felt we could truly appreciate the appeal of the local ingredients. The staff were especially friendly and left a strong impression. We could really feel their pride in—and love for—Fukue Island, and they shared many tips about what makes the island special. Listening to them, we ended up falling in love with Fukue Island ourselves. There is just one point I’d like to mention. The Accommodation felt like an “adults’ hideaway,” but during our stay there were guests with infants/toddlers, including moments of loud crying during breakfast, which made it feel a bit less calm at times. Since this seems like an Accommodation where guests come to enjoy quiet time, I wondered if setting an age limit might be worth considering. That said, it was a memorable stay in every way—the views, the food, and everyone’s warmth. Next time, I’d love to visit again when Onidake turns green.

    Excellent location

    This was my second visit. I was able to spend a truly relaxing time away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. This time, the only thing I had previously felt was missing—a regular bath—had been replaced with an Onsen. Since this service had not yet started at the time of my Reservation, it was a very pleasant surprise. The Room is not large, but for a solo traveler and minimalist like me, it is perfect. The design from the entrance to the lobby is simple yet exceptionally tasteful and soothing. The surrounding area offers beautiful scenery while remaining quiet and uncrowded, and I always enjoy taking walks there. My favorite view in particular is when looking toward Onidake from the Abunze Lava Coast Observatory on foot—the way the Hotel sits there without spoiling the landscape. It’s a scene that also appears in the tourism film shown at the Goto Tourism & History Museum, and you can see it with your own eyes. I also enjoyed both the food and drinks, which were carefully explained to me. I think this meal suited my tastes even better than last time, and I was very satisfied. I am also extremely satisfied with the service. A truly great Accommodation is one you want to return to again and again—and this is an Accommodation I would gladly visit again even from far away.

    Absolutely excellent in every way!

    The beauty of the lobby! The compact, well-designed Room doesn’t feel cramped. Crystal-clear window glass with not a single cloudiness makes the view from the Room stand out. Great taste and generous portions, with wonderful service as well. The towels, bathrobe, and in-house loungewear were all comfortable—I ended up buying the loungewear. In the end, everything was excellent!

    A wonderful accommodation.

    We stayed for 2 nights over the New Year period. Having visited last year and had such a pleasant stay, we decided to return, and once again, we were very satisfied. The room's location, view, comfortable bed, well-equipped amenities, as well as the quality and quantity of meals—especially the excellent selection of alcohol (focused on Goto and Kyushu)—were all outstanding just like last year. After dinner, we enjoyed plenty of drinks at the bar too; it was truly a satisfying New Year experience for us. This year brought an unexpected situation: after checking out, all ships were canceled due to bad weather! Stranded with no way to leave Goto Islands at the port, we called the accommodation as a last resort. They kindly prepared a room for us again so that we could stay another night. The next morning they went above and beyond by arranging taxis early in the morning and offering thoughtful assistance throughout—we are deeply grateful for their hospitality. We hope to visit again next year (perhaps at a slightly different time!). Highly recommended—this is our top pick accommodation right now! Thank you so much for everything moving forward as well!

    I had a relaxing stay at this wonderful Hotel.

    For our first trip to Goto, we stayed at Goto Retreat Ray. Both the accommodation and the staff provided exceptional hospitality, making it a truly wonderful experience. It was my birthday during this stay, and they discreetly upgraded our room without us noticing at check-in. I was surprised to learn about it later and regret not being able to thank them directly. The private dining setup for dinner also touched us with its thoughtful attention to detail—thank you so much! This trip became an unforgettable memory for my husband and me on our long-awaited getaway. Although the weather wasn’t great, the stars visible from the outdoor bath at night were stunningly beautiful. This has become my favorite hotel ever, and I look forward to staying here again!

    We stayed at the accommodation again this year during the New Year holidays, just like last year. The meals seemed to have improved in taste compared to last year. Using high-quality ingredients, we were able to enjoy rare and delicious dishes. Hearing "Welcome back" upon our stay both last year and this year was heartwarming. Since there are few places open during the New Year holidays, having more events would make it even better.

    It was the best time.

    We visited for my daughter's 7th birthday. It was quite far from Tokyo, but it was truly worth the trip. The breathtaking views, exceptional hospitality—everything about this accommodation was outstanding. I had seen photos of the view from the room many times before, but seeing it in person was absolutely stunning. The scenery from the room left me speechless. Although there is a large TV in the room, we barely turned it on as we were captivated by the view. Above all, the staff's hospitality was remarkable; they responded to our questions and requests with warm smiles, and we are truly grateful for their kindness. This experience has made us want to visit other accommodations in your group! My 7-year-old daughter also said that spending her birthday at this retreat made it her best birthday ever! It was a whirlwind weekend trip from Tokyo to Goto Islands, but we had an amazing time filled with nature, beautiful scenery, and heartfelt hospitality from your staff—a truly healing weekend.     Good Accommodation

    It was a wonderful accommodation. The Michelin 2024 and 2025 plaques were displayed at the bar. The seasonal Kue (longtooth grouper) dishes were exceptionally delicious. I also enjoyed relaxing in the private open-air bath. Breakfast featured attentive service and delicious Goto rice. I look forward to staying again. What month would you recommend for my next visit?

    The cuisine was exquisite, featuring meticulously prepared dishes that made the most of Goto's local ingredients. The room we stayed in did not have an Onsen at the time of our visit, but the open-air bath was always at a perfect temperature, allowing us to relax while enjoying a view of the sea. The location was truly exceptional, and the attentiveness of the staff was remarkable. It was delightful to find such a comfortable and sophisticated facility on a remote island. Unlike typical luxury Ryokans found elsewhere, this facility genuinely values Goto's uniqueness and originality, making it truly one-of-a-kind. I look forward to visiting again.

    I was delighted with the celebration card.

    The card with messages from the staff made me very happy. Both the hospitality and the stunning views were wonderful. Although it is far from the city, its proximity to the golf course and airport was very convenient. The meal was impressive, especially the soft crab dumplings and chrysanthemum soup, which were visually beautiful and delicious! To enhance the flavor of Goto beef, perhaps consider slightly diluting the sauce with mirin or similar ingredients. For breakfast, the fish ball in the hot pot was quite hard; making small cuts with a knife might improve its texture. We are already talking about wanting to stay here again!

    The Ultimate Luxury

    I stayed for three nights, and as mentioned in the reviews, it was an amazing hotel! The room's open-air bath was always at the perfect temperature, with an endless view of the ocean right in front. If I had more time during my stay, I would have been happy to spend the entire day just enjoying this incredible bath. The meals were thoughtfully prepared by the chef to ensure variety each day, which I truly appreciated. On our final day, we even had a chance to meet and thank the chef personally. When I visit Goto again, I definitely want to stay at this hotel. While everything was nearly perfect, there were two points that caught my attention: 1. The cleaning quality varied depending on the staff that day. For example, glasses on the sink were left as they were or hairdryers remained out after use. 2. The brightness of the mirror lighting at the sink area seemed impractical for makeup application—perhaps female perspectives weren’t considered during its design? The reflection made it difficult to do makeup properly; ultimately, I used a mirror in the restroom instead (though slightly dimmer than ideal). This was my first visit to Goto Islands and everything—from people and food to scenery—exceeded expectations! Now I understand why everyone says "Goto Islands are amazing!" It’s truly a place where you can experience ultimate luxury!

    I was very satisfied.

    We stayed as a family during the summer vacation. The new Facility was clean and comfortable throughout. The view from the Room was amazing, and it was a memorable experience to relax in the bath while gazing at the sea. Since we chose a meal-inclusive Plan, we were able to enjoy carefully prepared dishes at every meal. One small disappointment was that we had hoped to try some delicious local ingredients but missed out on kibinago sashimi and Goto beef—perhaps it was just by chance. The stargazing event held at nearby Onidake after departing from the Hotel became a treasured memory for us. Although I initially thought it might be a bit pricey, participating turned out to be absolutely worth it. With satisfying hospitality, I would definitely love to stay at this Hotel again!
